But the EFL refused to rule out a points deduction which would relegate them.
Yesterday, the EFL published next season’s fixture lists which have the Rams and Wycombe interchangeable between the Championship and League One.
The disciplinary process has still not been completed.
Rooney has told friends he may walk if the Rams are dropped down.
The ex-England captain has two years left on his £90,000-a-week contract,
And that could prove hard for the club to meet given the financial implications of entering the third tier.
SunSport also understands Rooney, 35, has concerns that the project of leading cash-strapped Rams in League One would not be the best fit for his fledgling dugout career.

The former Manchester United star replaced the sacked Phillip Cocu last November.
He kept Derby up by a point on the final day — amid issues with the payment of wages and a collapsed takeover.
The Rams, who also face a transfer embargo, said: “The club disputes that a points deduction is appropriate and disputes that it is lawful for the EFL to seek to impose one retrospectively.”

Norwich join Arsenal and Newcastle in transfer race for Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo

But he could be set for another switch amid rumours of a £10million release clause.
Adarabioyo cost an initial £1.5m a year ago and City are thought to hold a 20 per cent sell-on clause for his next move.
According to Sky Sports’ transfer centre, Adarabioyo is among a number of targets for the newly-promoted Canaries.
SunSport revealed earlier this week that Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour is wanted for a season-long loan move.
Adarabioyo, 23, is also reportedly wanted by Arsenal, Newcastle and clubs in Germany.
The Gunners are undertaking a serious summer overhaul with the likes of Sead Kolasinac and Matteo Guendouzi nearing exits.

Scott Parker on brink of leaving Fulham by mutual consent after breakthrough in talks ahead of Bournemouth switch

The ex-England international wants to take over at Bournemouth, who are waiting for his Craven Cottage exit to be confirmed before they swoop.
Fulham have not been willing to cut loose their wantaway manager – who has two years on his £1million-a-season contract still to run – without being financially compensated.
But after days of negotiations, a breakthrough appears to have been reached and it is now a matter of time before his departure is announced.
As SunSport revealed this week, Parker will not be receiving any severance pay.
The former West Ham and Tottenham star guided Fulham to the Premier League via the play-offs last summer.
But he could not prevent an instant relegation back to the Championship and his relationship with the owners turned fractious.

Bournemouth wanted to appoint him last summer but were scuppered by the Cottagers’ Wembley triumph.
He remains their No1 target to succeed Jonathan Woodgate, whose short-term contract expires at the end of the season.
Fulham were relegated to the Championship for the second time in three seasons with games to spare.
Parker said of the relegation: “I’m hurt, I’m gutted.
“This has been looming us, we’ve flirted with it for a long time, there are no words that I can say other than I am gutted we have not been successful this year.

“Staying in this division was a success for us, we knew it was always going to be a challenge, but it is bitterly disappointing not to do that.
“That game probably sums up our season. In between both boxes this year we’ve had our moments and looked a good side, but where we have fallen short is the other side of that.
“Tonight, defensively, the two goals are poor goals, and when we got the ball in the area in those clinical moments where you need the final details and criticalness, we fell short.
“While we have had progression, we have fallen short at this level.
“There is no denying that, that is why we have been relegated.

“We need to work out what we need to do to improve that, not just as players and a team but as a football club. We’ve had a relegation, promotion, and relegation.
“After the highs and lows of that journey, we need to find how we can keep a level about us. That is the next task.
“The performance levels have been there, the fine margins and gulf in class in this division are so small. We’ve been so close at times but yet so far.
“Over the last five or six games, we’ve just fallen short. We need to work out very quickly as football club where we went wrong this year.
“We’re on a rollercoaster – relegation, promotion, relegation – now is not the time to talk about it, but we certainly need to make some big decisions, we need to understand what we need to do and where we need to improve, and transfers are definitely going to be an area we look at.”

And with two years left on his deal at Craven Cottage he could expect a hefty pay-off in excess of £2million if he left by mutual consent.
But Fulham’s top brass are playing hardball and insist Parker will have to resign or just leave without pocketing any cash.
It is why the inevitable parting of the ways has been dragging on for more than two weeks now since it was revealed Parker is top of Bournemouth’s wanted list to take over as boss.
Current Cherries coach Jonathan Woodgate’s temporary contract expires at the end of this month and failure to get the club promoted will cost him the chance of a permanent deal.
Parker was unable to keep Fulham in the Premier League but he still sees his future away from the club to get a fresh start.

Fulham have been linked with Swansea boss Steve Cooper to eventually replace Parker.
Cooper has been strongly linked with Crystal Palace after two fine seasons in charge of the Swans but the Eagles have ripped up their list and are now looking elsewhere for their manager.
Meanwhile, ex-West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is another name who has been considered to take over in a bid to try to get Fulham back into the Premier League.

Baggies expect to finalise the deal in the next 24 hours once chief executive Xu Ke gives the green light to Ismael’s chosen backroom team and finalises the fine details of his contract.

The Strasbourg-born boss has previously managed FC Nurnberg, Vfl Wolfsburg, Greek side Apollon Smyrnis and Austrian aces LASK.
Ismael faces a hectic summer and will assess his Baggies squad when they return for pre-season training on Monday as he looks to inspire a speedy return to the Premier League.

SunSport understands Championship side Boro are mulling over offering him a role as sporting director.
Scott has spoken before of his desire to take such a position at a club in the future.
Though that role could possibly be available in a year at his own club Norwich, with current incumbent Stuart Webber previously hinting he could vacate his role when his contract ends in 2022.
Meanwhile, the newly-promoted Canaries are set to announce Lotus as their new shirt sponsors for the season.
It came after the club ditched online casino BK8 as their sponsors following a fan backlash over the gambling company’s sexualised marketing.
That deal was believed to be worth £5m for the year – but the Lotus deal is understood to be worth less than half of that.

Fletcher leaves Boro after a rollercoaster four years that were hindered by injuries following his £6million arrival from West Ham.
He initially struggled to make a breakthrough and was shipped out to Sunderland on loan but returned to become a regular under Tony Pulis.
Fletcher was top scorer at the Riverside during the 2019/20 campaign but could only muster four goals in 14 matches this term under Neil Warnock after being sidelined for four months.

Scott Parker ready to quit Fulham this week as Bournemouth look set to make him new boss and replace Woodgate

SunSport exclusively revealed earlier this month how Parker was being lined up as Woodgate’s replacement.
And now Bournemouth are just thought to be waiting for the 40-year-old to become available, anticipating that he will come to a mutual agreement with Fulham over his departure.
Parker has been in talks over his future with the Cottagers hierarchy – with whom he has had a fractious relationship – following relegation and there is a growing expectation he will leave.
Yet Fulham are adamant they will not let their manager, who still has two years left on his £3million-a-year contract, go on the cheap.
They rate Parker highly and see his previous experience of guiding Fulham out of the Championship as key to their bid to return to the top-flight at the first attempt.
Bournemouth are long-term admirers of the former England star and were hopeful of appointing him last summer, had Fulham failed to win promotion via the play-offs.
But the Cottagers did triumph at Wembley and Parker stayed, overseeing a Premier League campaign which ended in relegation.
Despite the drop, Parker earned praise for making the West Londoners hard to beat and easy on the eye – at least in the middle part of the season – and all on a shoe-string budget.

Blackburn striker Ben Brereton, born in Stoke, makes shock CHILE debut against Messi’s Argentina after shock call-up

Brereton represented England at Under-20 level but has been on La Roja’s radar since the end of last year.
He produced his best season to date with seven goals and five assists for Rovers this term.
That saw him rewarded by being named in Martin Lasarte’s squad for their June World Cup qualifiers and then Copa America.
Then he got his first taste of senior international football when he replaced Eduardo Vargas on 77 minutes in their Copa clash with Argentina.
Brereton led the line as the central striker for the closing stages and put himself about with some surging runs to stretch the opposition defence late on.
Messi opened the scoring with a vintage free-kick before Vargas equalised, heading in the rebound when Arturo Vidal’s penalty was saved.
Brereton is part of the squad alongside former Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez who has a staggering 46 goals in 138 games for his nation.
Well known stars Claudio Bravo, Arturo Vidal and Gary Medel are also part of the current set-up.

The coastal nation sit seventh in the South American qualifying group for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Lasarte’s side are 12 points behind group leaders Brazil after another 1-1 draw with Argentina earlier in June.
But after two unused substitute appearances for that one and then against Bolivia, the former Nottingham Forest star followed in the footsteps of legends Ivan Zamarano and Marcelo Salas with his Copa America bow in Rio.
Chile – who won the tournament in 2015 and 2016 – also face Bolivia, Uruguay and Paraguay in the group stage.
Blackburn finished 15th in this season’s Championship.
The former Premier League winners beat Birmingham 5-2 on the final day.
