NOTTINGHAM FOREST goalkeeper Brice Samba was left with a shockingly large egg-shaped lump on his head during the bad-tempered win over Derby County.The 27-year-old’s cranium swelled up after a clash with opposition captain Tom Lawrence in the first half of the Championship match at the City Ground.

The star was amazingly allowed to continue wearing a bandage around his headCredit: PA
He collided with the Derby skipper after he challenged Derby forward for the ball.
Samba needed treatment for several minutes as Sky Sports’ TV cameras revealed the disgusting lump developing on his head.
One fan tweeted: “Brice Samba has a welt on the side of his head the size of a tennis ball following a collision. Surely no way he plays in the second half for Forest.”
Another wrote: “Okay Brice Samba should have been subbed off immediately. That lump on his forehead is SCARY.”
Samba was allowed to continue with his head heavily bandaged but it would not be the last time he and Lawrence would have a run-in.
Following a goalless opening period, the deadlock was broken when promotion-chasing Forest took the lead moments after the restart through Lewis Grabban.

Brennan Johnson then doubled their advantage with a second in the 88nd minute.
But Derby were handed a lifeline with two minutes to go when they were awarded a penalty.
Lawrence kept his cool to stick it away Samba guessing the right way.
But as the goalscorer attempted to get the ball to restart the action, the stopper tried to block him from doing so as trouble soon erupted.
The pair became embroiled in a tangle in the net as players from both sides rushing over as pushing and shoving ensued.
Both Lawrence and Samba were cautioned – but that was only the beginning of the trouble.
With just seconds remaining, Derby’s ex-Manchester United and West Ham star Morrison was shown a straight red card for a high, late challenge on Philip Zinckernagel.
Almost instantly the full-time whistle was blown as Forest ensured they had the bragging rights in the Brian Clough derby.
However, even though the game was over, the action was not.
Suddenly a huge fracas broke out on the pitch as both sets of players and substitutes – and Morrison – tangled with each other as tempers boiled over.
Things soon calmed down after the heated exchanges but the Football Association is likely to launch an investigation into the angry scenes.
The result leaves Derby eight points adrift of safety while Forest’s play-off push continues. More

Derby takeover: Carlisle Capital launch formal offer to buy crisis-club for £28m asking price

Private investment firm Carlisle Capital has made a formal offer to the administrators of Derby to buy the Sky Bet Championship club, according to reports.Sources close to the firm say it has made a full asking price offer in the region of £28million.

The bid, which is understood to be spearheaded by the firm’s vice-president Adam Binnie, has been made fully in the knowledge that the club could face additional liabilities if one or both of the claims against Derby from Middlesbrough and Wycombe are successful.
It is understood the offer does not include the club’s Pride Park stadium, which is owned by former Rams chairman Mel Morris, report the PA news agency.
The group walked away after showing initial interest last year but have returned at a time when the club is facing the very real threat of liquidation, having entered administration last September.
The EFL has asked Derby’s administrators to produce a funding plan by February 1, saying in a statement on Thursday that by the administrators’ own admission, they would run out of cash by the end of the month.
Administrators Quantum responded by stating they would be able to prove there are funds that could carry The Rams through until the end of the season.
The EFL has also called on the administrators to name a preferred bidder.
The claims of Middlesbrough and Wycombe – and whether they would be classed as football creditors and therefore entitled to the full value of any award arising from their legal cases – have added extra complexity to the situation at Derby, but the bid from Carlisle has been made despite that.

Yet Fulham’s ultimate aim for the campaign is to become the first English club in history to yo-yo between two divisions for five consecutive seasons.
Because the whopping great asterisk against their recent scoring sprees is that Fulham have not even come close to survival in their last two bungled attempts at the Premier League.

Reading too were punished with a six-point deduction after breaching spending rules.
Rooney’s Rams are currently eight points off safety, but a supercomputer at bettingexpert.com has predicted that they would finish as high as NINTH had they not been slapped with the mammoth deduction.
The prediction, in a world without deductions, has Derby just three places outside the play-offs – and nowhere near the threat of relegation.
Instead Reading, Peterborough and Barnsley are predicted to fall down to League One.
Rams fans would have been in for a stress-free season consisting of a mid-table finish, had it not been for their financial woes.
However in reality with the deduction, Derby are not forecasted to be able to pull off the impossible and avoid the drop.

MIKE ASHLEY is planning talks with Steve Gibson and the Football League to solve problems between Derby and Middlesbrough.Ex-Newcastle owner Ashley wants to buy Derby County but has yet to commit to a deal — with Boro’s bid for compensation from the Rams a major problem to any buyer.

Boro owner Gibson and Ashley were relatively close when Ashley was at the Toon and they may be able to find a compromise.
Boro want a pay-off from Derby’s Financial Fair Play crimes as they say it cost them a shot at promotion from the Championship, and the EFL want the issue settled quickly.
So much so they have threatened to kick Derby out of the Championship in the middle of this season.
But Ashley would prefer the EFL to sort out the dispute without the threat of compensation claims or future legal action.
American Rich Riley is set to throw money behind a rival bid to rescue Derby.
The wealthy former CEO of several top firms is being brought into a take-over team led by ex-Rams owner Andy Appleby. Riley’s financial backing is needed to help tackle mounting costs.
Their plan to get round the Boro and Wycombe compensation problem is to seek arbitration, too, possibly in the Court of Arbitration in Sport.

“That was pretty much the end of my chances of playing for him again.”
Lowe was frozen out and loaned to a series of non-league clubs before he left the Bees in 2015.
He had to do the hard yards at St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and Hampton & Richmond before his career started to take off when Paul Cook signed him for Portsmouth.
Lowe said: “What happened that day at Barnet motivated me. I wanted to prove Davids wrong – although sadly I wasn’t able to at Barnet.
“It’s at that point my career spiralled into non-league but importantly I got lots of game time.
“The one thing I wanted to do was stand out – so I made sure I was fitter than everyone else. I wanted to remain a professional athlete even if I was going to be playing in the semi-pro game.
“And I tried to stand out by scoring goals.

“Managers and scouts don’t always watch the games and just look at the goals you’ve scored and sometimes that’s enough!
“In a funny way, I can thank Edgar now because what he did that day put me into a zone where it showed how easy everything can be taken away from you.
“I’ve had to take the long way round – but got there in the end.”
Lowe ended up following Cook to Wigan and was part of his team that were cruelly relegated to League One after the EFL docked them 12 points for going into administration.
But Swansea snapped him up and he had a fantastic season in South Wales, scoring 14 goals in 45 Championship games, as they reached the play-off final before losing to Brentford at Wembley.

He said: “I loved my time at Swansea and had to learn to play in a completely new position as a striker.
“But I’ve never felt lower on a football pitch than losing the play-off final. It’s the worse way to miss out on promotion – you’re better off not making the play-offs than going through all that devastation.
“You get all the build-up and have been working hard all that season to just reach the play-offs, then you work hard to get to the final and to then fall at the last hurdle is terrible.
“But you have to learn from it and use that experience the next time you get there.”

Boss Steve Cooper’s departure from the Liberty Stadium made his mind up to leave.
He said: “I started a few games this season with Swansea but with the manager change it seemed like the club was going in a different direction and that maybe I wasn’t going to be needed anymore.
“Bournemouth are a massive club with big aspirations and their ambitions match mine so when they wanted me I went for it. And it has turned out to be a great move.”
The Cherries travel to Luton on Saturday where a win will keep them top of the Championship.
And Lowe has had to adapt to being used mostly as a substitute this season but is loving his time in Dorset.

He said: “It’s all been about making sure week in, week out, you’re as fit as the players who are playing 90 minutes.
“It’s about coming on and making a positive impact. Most of the time I’ve come on, we’ve been winning so it’s been a case of seeing the games out.”
Lowe has loved playing for Scott Parker – and believes his style of play is the best in the Championship.
He said: “Scott was a top player and demanded high standards of himself in terms of work rate and attention to detail – and he is exactly the same now.
“Scott is in the same bracket as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, who have had good careers and pride themselves on that they always set their standards sky high.

“They’re all 100 per centers and that is how they manage. You can’t drop below 100.”
Speaking of high standards, one player who has been superb this season is 36-year-old former Chelsea and England defender Gary Cahill.
And Lowe admitted: “He is quite literally a wall, nothing is getting past him.” More

Prolific with the Gunners’ U23 and England U21 sides, just 12 Prem minutes and two appearances in the EFL Cup followed.
Balogun looked no closer to breaking into Arteta’s side even when skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was dropped last month.
But having joined Chris Wilder’s Championship promotion charge on Teesside, he is hell-bent on proving himself on loan before challenging at the Emirates next season.
Balogun said: “We lost the first game of the season and I wanted to put it right.
“But you don’t get that opportunity in first-team football all the time. It was something I had to accept but I was also frustrated, so I had to balance that and go again.
“It’s been difficult, but it’s difficult for any young player and it’s something you know is not going to happen overnight.

“Coming through the ranks at Arsenal, (being their main striker) was always something I was looking for.
“I hope a successful loan puts me in a better position than I was in before coming here.
“Coming here, my job is to give it my all and see what happens.

And the forward has opted for the Riverside in a bid for more first-team opportunities.
Boro boss Chris Wilder said: “We’re delighted to get Flo in.
“He’s a player I’ve known about for a long time and we identified him as someone who could come in and improve us in the second half of the season.
“He has great movement, good pace, and he’s a natural finisher. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
