Leicester RELEGATED from Premier League after disastrous season that saw stars partying after manager sacking

LEICESTER CITY have been relegated from the Premier League.Following this afternoon’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, the Foxes become the second side to confirm their drop back into the Championship – joining Southampton in England’s second tier next season.Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City have been relegated from the Premier LeagueCredit: AFPLeicester’s fate was sealed with a 1-0 defeat to LiverpoolCredit: PARuud van Nistelrooy’s side have had a torrid campaign that has seen them struggle massively to compete with the teams around them.Leicester went over 12 HOURS without scoring a home goal and won just ONE of their last 19 Premier League matches as they cemented their drop.It marks the Foxes’ second relegation in three years, becoming yo-yo strugglers less than 10 years after winning the Premier League title and the FA Cup.Leicester started the season with Steve Cooper in charge, but axed the Welshman after just 12 Premier League matches.READ MORE IN FOOTBALLThat decision made headlines after video emerged in the following days of Leicester’s players partying in a nightclub next to signs that read “Enzo, I miss you” – seemingly hinting at former manager Enzo Maresca.Cooper would soon be replaced by Manchester United legend Van Nistelrooy – a decision that would prove costly.Under Cooper Leicester had only fallen below 16th place in the league once, never dropping into the relegation zone as they won two, drew four and lost six of his 12 league games. While the arrival of Van Nistelrooy saw the 2016 Champions plummet into the relegation zone, where they have remained for all-but-one matchweek since December. Most read in FootballSteve Cooper was sacked after just 12 league games in chargeCredit: PALeicester players including Conor Coady and Harry Winks were seen dancing in a Danish nightclub in a video that emerged after Cooper’s dismissalCredit: ekstrabladet.dkSomebody was holding up an ‘Enzo I Miss U’ sign near where the players were standingCredit: ekstrabladet.dkCASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITSAnd the United legend has also had his fair share of controversy to deal with, including his axing of Harry Winks and Jannik Vestergaard shocking staff by bringing his DOG to training. The Dutchman has only managed two league wins over Tottenham and West Ham, losing nearly 80 PER CENT of his Prem games in charge of the club.Leicester stars party in nightclub next to ‘Enzo I miss you’ sign hours after Chelsea loss on night before Cooper sackedBy comparison, Cooper was sacked after extending his streak without a win to just five matches. The King Power outfit have come in for some heavy defeats throughout the campaign too.Hefty 4-0 defeats to Brentford, Everton and Newcastle were low points for the Foxes fanbase who haven’t seen their team win – or score – at home in the league in 2025.In fact, they even became the first team in the history of English professional football to lose eight home games on the bounce without scoring a single goal. However, Leicester will be buoyed by their success in the Championship last season, where they put up 97 points to be crowned champions in a dominant campaign. The Foxes set records with their poor goalscoring formCredit: Rex More

Ipswich 0 Arsenal 4: Gunners make light work of Championship-bound Tractor Boys… but Saka in another injury scare

IT would not have just been Mikel Arteta who held his breath the moment Leif Davis sunk his studs into Bukayo Saka in the 32nd minute. If their team are to sweep away Paris St Germain in the Champions League semi-finals and book their spot in the Munich final, they obviously need a fit and firing Saka.Leandro Trossard’s brace helped Arsenal cruise to victory over Ipswich TownCredit: GettyHe got Arsenal off the mark with his first of the afternoonCredit: ReutersGabriel Martinelli grabbed Arsenal’s second goal of the matchCredit: PAHaving tormented doomed Ipswich for the first 30 minutes, Saka collapsed to the ground and was left screaming with agony after a stupid tackle from behind by Ipswich left-back Davis.Yet Arteta and every Arsenal fan were not looking at referee Chris Kavanagh brandishing a red card. They were praying for Saka to get up unscathed. And the England international dusted himself down and continued playing, even though he then should have scored a hat-trick before half-time.Saka had set up the opening goal for Leandro Trossard for his 11th Premier League assist and then played a part in the second for Gabriel Martinelli.READ MORE ON FOOTBALLTrossard made it 3-0 and sub Ethan Nwaneri scored a deflected fourth but before then, Arteta made his changes and substituted Saka and as soon as he arrived on the bench, the club’s medical staff strapped his right ankle in ice.Although he should be okay, Arsenal will now face a nervous wait to see whether there is any major swelling when Saka reports for training tomorrow at London Colney.Arteta’s team face Crystal Palace on Wednesday in their final match before the first leg clash against PSG at the Emirates on Tuesday week.Arsenal delayed Liverpool’s title celebrations by a few more days with this win while it pushed awful Ipswich a step closer to their inevitable relegation. Most read in FootballJOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUSThroughout the second half, Arsenal’s fans sang: “we’ll never play you again.” That might be incorrect as Ipswich should be strong in the Championship next term but having spent £130million in the last two windows, they should have been better than this.Meanwhile, while their manager Kieran McKenna is planning for the Championship, Arteta can continue to focus on their unlikely semi-final against PSG.Myles Lewis-Skelly winds up Real Madrid fans as Arsenal knock Los Blancos out of Champions League Leif Davis was sent off for this challenge on Bukayo SakaCredit: GettyThe Tractor Boys are as good as relegated following the lossCredit: GettyAnd that means keeping his players ticking along by resting a few of the tired ones, giving minutes to those who need a run-out and most importantly of all, avoiding a nightmare injury – and silly tackles like the one from Davis.Saka was making only his third start for Arsenal since spending three months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. And while he featured from the beginning in both matches against Real Madrid, this was his first Premier League start since a 5-1 win at Crystal Palace on December 21.With Thomas Partey to miss the PSG first leg with a suspension, Arteta has to look at how to fill the gap. So it was also only the fourth time this season that Arteta started with a midfield three of Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Mikel Merino. And for Rice, it was his first game at No.6 for three months. One option is to keep Merino in midfield and keep Trossard up front and both did their jobs well enough here. While PSG, like Ipswich, play in blue shirts, the similarities certainly end there, so Arteta could still have done with an available Partey.Yet Trossard, who has been inconsistent this season, was certainly playing against the right side to boost his goals tally of seven. The Argentine had a close-range shot blocked but it was inevitable he would get a few more chances as Arsenal caused so many problems, particularly down the right. And in the 14th minute, Martin Odegaard had a ridiculous amount of time to run forward with the ball, Saka delivered a first-time cross and Trossard, despite falling to the floor under a challenge from Sam Morsy, stuck a shot through the legs of Dara O’Shea and into the bottom corner. An unmarked Merino should have made it 2-0 but missed a close-range header from Saka’s corner. And it was Saka again who was involved in the brilliant second goal as he accelerated past Jacob Greaves and cut the ball back to Merino who delivered a magnificent flick with his back heel which bamboozled the home defence and gave Martinelli an easy tap-in.Maybe it was frustration that Davis delivered a silly tackle on Saka even though there did not seem to be too much malice in the challenge. After continuing, Saka then found himself jeered each time he touched the ball, which did seem a bit harsh, and much to the amusement of the home supporters, he could have had that hat-trick before half-time and two of the chances were quite easy.Arteta made his changes just before the hour, which included replacing Saka, and Arsenal then made it 3-0 as Ipswich switched off at Rice’s short corner and Trossard threaded a shot through the legs of George Hirst and past keeper Alex Palmer.Read More on The SunSaka was taken off in the second halfCredit: ReutersArteta made sure to rest key membersCredit: GettyWith less than 10 minutes less, Trossard was replaced by 22-year-old Nathan Butler-Oyedeji whose only previous senior appearance came against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League in January. After Odegaard saw his shot hit the post, sub Nwaneri grabbed the fourth with a shot deflecting off Cameron Burgess’ backside. As a player the jump to Prem from Championship is astonishing… only TWO stars from bottom three will be back next season

THERE are 75 players in the first-team squads of Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town — and how many of them will be playing Premier League football next season? My guess is two — Ipswich striker Liam Delap and Southampton kid Tyler Dibling. Two out of 75.Southampton midfielder Tyler Dibling, 19, is likely to be in big demandCredit: GettyIpswich striker Liam Delap, 22 has been linked to Prem giantsCredit: RexWhat a damning indictment that is of the recruitment at the three clubs who were promoted last summer and are all going straight back down to the Championship. When I was promoted with Watford a decade ago, we made a point of telling each other, ‘Ten wins and we will stay up’. Well, these three clubs have managed only ten wins between them! This is the second successive season in which the three promoted clubs will all suffer instant relegation but don’t tell me the gulf between the top two divisions has suddenly got a lot wider.Three years ago, Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest went up together and all three are in the top half of the table, eyeing Europe, with Forest even vying for a Champions League spot.Nothing much has changed financially in two years, so bridging the gap between the Championship and Premier League can be done. What you need is a club united in its vision, with pragmatic management and with players who have experience, character and desire.Don’t get me wrong, it is a huge gap. As a player, you notice an astonishing difference in the physical and mental demands when you’re promoted into the top flight.I’d had three consecutive seasons of scoring 20-plus goals in the Championship before we went up in 2015.BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UKIn the Premier League, I had never felt more motivated and I was playing some of the best football of my life but I didn’t score in my first nine games. On Match of the Day, they were saying, ‘Well, he scored a lot of goals in the Championship but can he do it in the Premier League?’ and that got me riled — although I’m getting my own back a bit on that show these days!Liam Delap talks about joining Ipswich Town But I’d got four or five assists, the team had picked up two wins and four draws and I was performing well in a different role with more defensive duties — but there I was being doubted to the whole nation. And that’s another thing you really notice in the Premier League — the incredible media attention.Watford versus Crystal Palace in the Championship barely registers on the radar. That same fixture in the Premier League has a massive worldwide event. As a player, you notice an astonishing difference in the physical and mental demands when you’re promoted into the top flight.Troy DeeneyAnyway, my tenth match in the Premier League was Stoke away — and when I scored, it was a pretty aggressive goal ‘celebration’.It was such a release of frustration that I belted the s**t out of the corner flag. But that was a difference between the Championship and the top flight — you’d often only have two shots per match. Sometimes you wouldn’t have any because you’d be getting humped by Manchester City. The amount of effort you have to put in to get one win — to score one goal — in the Premier League is extreme. Those levels of determination are what Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich have been lacking — as well as a proper vision from the clubs as a whole.Transfer-market strategy has to be ruthless.Ex-Man City kid Delap has amassed impressive stats this termTroy Deeney, centre, says taking on Crystal Palace was a global event in the Prem but pretty low-key in the ChampionshipCredit: Action ImagesDibling has been a rare bright spot for the long-doomed SaintsMatej Vydra scored 16 goals in Watford’s promotion season, he was hugely popular and I loved playing with him, but the club bombed him out, selling him to Reading without him playing a single top-flight game. That felt cruel but it’s an example of what’s needed. We also signed a host of players who had been captains at their previous clubs, which gave us the necessary  character.I also look at Fulham under Marco Silva and Brentford, who were promoted under Thomas Frank a year earlier, and remember how they adapted so intelligently to the Premier League. Both played champagne football in the second tier but changed markedly when they went up.Brentford became much more direct, while Fulham released their tiny ball-playing defensive midfielder Jean Michael Seri and signed an absolute beast in Joao Palhinha.Contrast that with Southampton, whose manager Russell Martin stuck with his purist footballing philosophy and was sacked after 13 defeats in 16 games — many of them good hidings. But it’s not as if the Saints improved under Ivan Juric — they got even worse and registered the fastest-ever relegation.Unless they can earn two more points in their final six games, they will go down as the worst team in the history of the competition. And it’s not as if Leicester are much better — they haven’t scored a single goal during eight successive home defeats and are likely to be relegated by Liverpool tomorrow. There are no short cuts to staying in the Prem – everything has to be done the right way. But at Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich, pretty much everything has been done wrong. What were they doing in sacking Steve Cooper after just 13 games, when they weren’t even in the drop zone? They wanted a more attractive style of football, apparently — well what’s so attractive about losing eight straight home games without scoring, while conceding 21?The appointment of Ruud Van Nistelrooy always felt doomed to failure.Leicester are a mess. Many would cut Ipswich a bit more slack after back-to-back promotions under Kieran McKenna but I’m not really inclined to as their recruitment has been poor.Despite Delap looking a real player, Ipswich have too often been too nice to play against.I don’t see enough desire and belief. In January, they spent £20million on Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa — who has never looked worth that kind of money. And last summer, there was Kalvin Phillips — a ‘name’ signing but a player who seems to have lost his fire.In short, there are no short cuts to staying in the Premier League — everything has to be done the right way.But at Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich, pretty much everything has been done wrong. ‘They don’t care enough’ – Matt Le Tissier tears into Southampton flops & moans watching them get outclassed is ‘chore’

MATT LE TISSIER has accused Southampton players of lacking the fight to stay in the Premier League. And the Saints legend confessed to SunSport that it has been “a chore” watching his beloved team slump to a record low this season.Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has torn into Saints’ flopsCredit: News Group Newspapers LtdThe Saints are battling to avoid the humiliation of the Prem’s worst points totalCredit: GettyThe South Coast flops became the quickest Premier League outfit to be relegated when they lost to Spurs last Sunday week with SEVEN games to go.Southampton have picked up just ten points from 32 games and need TWO more to beat Derby’s dismal lowest Prem total of 11 set in 2008-09.And Le Tissier, who spent his entire career with the Saints —  scoring 161 goals in 443 appearances — has not enjoyed what he’s seen from his own Suite at the club. The 56-year-old said: “This has been a tough season to watch.READ MORE ON FOOTBALL“We’ve had relegations before but never quite on this scale.“It’s hard to watch a team which is so far away from the rest of the division. That was probably the toughest season that I have had to watch us play football — it’s been a real chore.“It’s not been enjoyable seeing our team get outclassed on a regular basis.“It’s not something I’m used to seeing even when we were close to getting relegated when I was playing. Most read in FootballBEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK“We were reasonably competitive and had a go.“We might have suffered a bit in a lack of quality but never in terms of having a real fight for it.I hated playing against Arsenal Invincible, he’d pinch me and stand on my toes, I only spoke to him to abuse him“But there just didn’t seem to be that amount of fight in this team and that’s symptomatic of a lot of footballers this day and age.“There doesn’t seem to be the same connection between the players and the fans on the terrace like we had.“I was in at least five relegation scraps. We never got relegated — and definitely four went to the last day of the season.”The poor form cost Ivan Juric his job as manager. But Channel Islander Le Tissier, nicknamed Le God, does not think all Saints fans will be upset seeing their team back in the second tier one year after Adam Armstrong’s goal saw them beat Leeds 1-0 in the play-off final. He said: “When we went to the play-offs last season I would say there was a 50-50 split with Saints fans who didn’t want to go up because of exactly what has happened. We are still fighting not to become the worst Premier League team ever with the number of points we’ve got.Matt Le Tissier“I was speaking to a lot of them a year ago and they were saying they didn’t mind if they lose the final.“That’s not a great position to be in as a football club where you know if you go up you are going to get battered every week.“I’m quite happy to interact with people and talk about football all day long but their frustration is palpable.“Most of that frustration is at the presence given out by the players that they don’t care enough about the football club.“Clubs do have their ups and downs throughout the seasons-but this is a pretty big downer.“And it shows just how low we’ve got to by the fact we are still fighting not to become the worst Premier League team ever with the number of points we’ve got.”The former Sky Sports Soccer Saturday pundit is revered by Saints supporters – having devoted all his professional days to the club.Back in the day he was renowned for scoring spectacular goals and in his prime became the midfielder to reach a century fastest in the Prem era.Le Tiss, who is never afraid to speak his mind, would like to see a young manager with local connections replace Juric, who was sacked earlier this month. But he feels Russell Martin, who was axed in December, might have kept his job had he not stuck to the passing game that had earned his side such plaudits in the Championship. Most of that frustration is at the presence given out by the players that they don’t care enough about the football club.Matt Le TissierLe Tissier added: “To be honest I would like to see a young, progressive manager, somebody who is not afraid to change his tactics when the need arises.“Had Russell Martin been more pragmatic in his approach he would still be in the job. They liked him down here and it wouldn’t have taken much for him to have stayed had he swallowed his pride a bit.“He was so stubborn about passing out from the back and giving goals away from defensive errors each week.“He had taken us out of the league we are heading back to with his style of football – which you can get away with in the Championship but not in the Premier League.Read More on The Sun“If the new manager had a connection with the club that would go a long way with the fans and that is something I would like to see.“But that, I guess, is different from the business perspective of the owners and the CEO making the decisions they think is going to be the best chance to get back up.” More
