      Stoke sign Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle on free transfer despite having two years left on Toon deal

      STOKE have signed Dwight Gayle from Newcastle on a free transfer.The 32-year-old striker has penned a two-year deal with the Potters after becoming surplus to requirements at St James’ Park.

      Gayle had two seasons remaining on his Magpies contract, but the Toon have opted to let him leave for nothing.
      The former Crystal Palace forward boasts an impressive record at Championship level, having scored 59 times in 100 second-tier appearances.
      Upon joining Michael O’Neill’s side, Gayle said: “I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get started now.
      “There were a few parties that were interested but for me it was about finding a club that was right for me and after speaking to the gaffer and the coaches I heard everything I wanted to hear.”

      After getting his man, O’Neill told the Potters’ official website: “Dwight’s track record, particularly in the Championship, is exceptional and there were a number of clubs chasing him so we are really delighted he has chosen to join us.”
      Gayle joined Newcastle from Palace in 2016, scoring 34 goals in 122 appearances for the Magpies.
      During his Toon stint he spent the 2018-19 season on loan at West Brom.
      Despite staying injury free last term, Gayle only made nine appearances in all competitions.

      WANDA NARA’S ex-husband Maxi Lopez is bidding to take control of Birmingham with partner Paul Richardson with the takeover to be completed “within three weeks”.The 38-year-old, who was married to Wanda before she coupled up with his former team-mate Mauro Icardi, has joined forced with local businessman Richardson.

      The consortium had been competing with ex-Watford owner Laurence Bassini to buy the Championship club.
      But former Barcelona and AC Milan forward Lopez and Richardson have been granted exclusivity to purchase the Blues from current owners Birmingham Sport Holdings.
      The pair visited St Andrew’s on Tuesday to begin due diligence having paid their deposit on Monday after they exchanged contracts on Saturday.
      Speaking to Sky Sports, Lopez, who was allegedly cheated on by Wanda with Icardi, revealed his desire to do “big things” for the city of Birmingham.
