Lampard insists Chelsea are focused on Premier League amid European Super League plans to poach up to five English clubs

FRANK LAMPARD has distanced Chelsea from talk of a European Super League.
Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United are at the forefront of plans to replace the Champions League with an even more lucrative alternative.

But Lampard, 42, believes the Blues are not interested in formulating a new league.
He told reporters after Tuesday’s draw with Sevilla: “I don’t know enough about it.
“I love the Premier League. I love the product that it is, as we all do in England.

“I wouldn’t be a huge fan reading the headlines as I have today.

“Chelsea, as far as I am concerned, are focused on the Premier League.”
Controversial plans for Europe’s top teams to strike out from the Champions League have surfaced again.
Following the failed floating of Project Big Picture, the latest proposals would also see heaps of cash thrown the way of the big clubs.
Chelsea would likely be offered a spot inside the competition, which is said to consist of 18 teams from Europe’s big five divisions.

The scheme is backed by Fifa with a £4.6billion financial packcage being put together by Wall Street bank JP Morgan.
Uefa are strongly against the plans, which would also lead to a major fixture pile-up for those involved.
A statement from the governing body read: “The Uefa president has made it clear on many occasions that Uefa strongly opposes a Super League.

“The principles of solidarity, of promotion, relegation and open leagues are non-negotiable.
“It is what makes European football work and the Champions League the best sports competition in the world.
“Uefa and the clubs are committed to build on such strength, not to destroy it to create a Super League of 10, 12, even 24 clubs, which would inevitably become boring.”

Watch Cavani deep in conversation with Tuanzebe before Man Utd’s win over PSG as fans joke he leaked inside information

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are convinced Edinson Cavani dished the dirt on former side Paris Saint-Germain to Axel Tuanzebe prior to Tuesday’s clash.
The Red Devils beat Les Parisiens 2-1 at Parc des Princes as they kicked off their Champions League campaign with a hard-fought victory.

Edinson Cavani and Axel Tuanzebe were spotted in deep conversation prior to Manchester United’s win against PSG

    5

Cavani played no part in the match as he is not yet fully match fit

And Tuanzebe was a standout performer for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as he starred in his first game of the season.

The DR Congo-born England youth international, 22, won all his aerial battles and made a game-high seven clearances.
A clip of Cavani speaking to Tuanzebe in training has went viral, with supporters joking he leaked information about his former employers.
The duo were presumably speaking in French with Cavani spending seven years in Paris, while the language is one of three Tuanzebe can speak.

Commenting on the video, one fan tweeted: “Already loving Cavani’s positive influence in helping young players.”
Another messaged: “Experience is always important in games like this, he couldn’t play but did well to let others know.”
A third added: “I think Cavani is giving Axel tips here on how Neymar and Mbappe will come at him and didn’t the boy listen well.”
One simply stated: “Cavani already worth the 10 million agent fees that we had to pay.”

Tuanzebe shined against PSG in what was his first game of the season

Meanwhile one quipped: “Cavani hasn’t even been on the pitch one second and he’s already done more for us than Sanchez did in 2 seasons.”
Tuanzebe’s team-mates were quick to praise the youngster after his dazzling display, as Marcus Rashford said: “I know Axel from a very very young age.
“He’s an unbelievable defender, and for me he has no problem stepping in even though he’s been out for a long time.”
David De Gea then raved: “He has been unbelievable today.
“He played against two of the best players in the world in Neymar and Mbappe so he did really, really well. I am really happy for him.”

Tuchel blasts PSG flops after ‘one of our worst games’ following shock Man Utd loss in Champions League

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN boss Thomas Tuchel claimed the defeat to Manchester United was ‘one of our worst performances’.
The French giants suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Champions League after Marcus Rashford scored a dramatic late winner.

United pulled off an incredible comeback to beat PSG in the quarter-finals of the competition in March 2019.
But PSG boss Tuchel has claimed that Tuesday night’s performance was worse ‘by far’.
The German boss, 47, told beIN SPORTS: “In the first half, we were simply not on the pitch. It was not our level.

“I don’t know why, but I can just say that it was not our level, in moving the ball, in possession, in counter-attacking, in challenges, in intensity.

“By far, one of our worst games, one of our worst first halves.”
PSG will be looking to return to winning ways against Dijon in the league on Saturday.
And Tuchel is hopeful that things can only get better for the Ligue 1 giants.
He added: “The good news was that it could not be worse.

    3

“OK, we were down 1-0, it is easy to play better in the second half and we had to step up, it was clear.
“We tried to do some tactical changes because of the injury of Idrissa Gueye, we tried to bring on one more offensive guy, which was a risk that we paid for at the end also. It was like this today.
“From the start until the end it felt like we were never at our highest level, and we weren’t really into the match like was absolutely necessary on this level.”

United fans praised Axel Tuanzebe after the match for keeping a lid on PSG star man Kylian Mbappe.
And Solskjaer shockingly revealed Scott McTominay could only see out of one eye in the first half of the match.
The Red Devils will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford.

Why wasn’t Cristiano Ronaldo playing for Juventus at Dynamo Kiev, and when will he return?

JUVENTUS commenced their Champions League campaign with a tough trip to Ukraine to face Dynamo Kiev.
And so it proved, with the Serie A giants needing a second half brace from Alvaro Morata to take the three points back to Italy.

Juventus were without Cristiano Ronaldo who sat out the Champions League opener – so where was he?
Why isn’t Cristiano Ronaldo playing for Juventus?
Ronaldo will hope this is finally the year he can inspire the Turin-based side to end their long wait to lift Big Ears again.
Juventus have been runners-up in the Champions League three times since the turn of the century.
And this year they’ve been put in a group with Barcelona, Ferencvaros and Dynamo.

Ronaldo played for Portugal in their draw with France during the international break and was expected to feature against Sweden.
But the former Man Utd and Real Madrid star returned a positive test for Covid-19 and left Portugal’s training camp.
He is currently self isolating and has reportedly displayed no symptoms.

    2

Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo posted a picture on Instagram of him relaxing by his pool during isolationCredit: instagram.com/cristiano
Ronaldo travelled from Portugal to Turin on a private air ambulance – but hit back at suggestions he’s broken protocol in the process.

CR7 said: “I did not break any protocol.
“They’re saying that I broke Italian laws but it’s all a lie.
“I spoke with my team and we have the responsibility to do things right.
“Everything was done with authorisation. Principally for the Italian man (Italian sports minister Vincenzo Spadaforo) whose name I’m not going to say, it’s a lie, I abided by all the protocols.”

When will he return to action?
We knew that Ronaldo was definitely out for the game against Dynamo Kiev after returning a positive test on Tuesday, October 13.
It also looks likely that he will also miss the Serie A clash against Verona on October 25.
And his long-awaited meeting with Barcelona and Lionel Messi could also be in doubt, as Uefa protocol requires a player to test negative seven days before a game.
To play in the clash with the Catalan giants, Ronaldo will need to test negative for coronavirus by Wednesday, October 21.
If he doesn’t, he’s likely to make his Juventus return at Spezia on November 1.

Man Utd fans convinced club has dig at Angel Di Maria with ‘big player’ jibe in cheeky Instagram post after PSG win

MANCHESTER UNITED fans enjoyed the club’s Instagram post that appeared to be a cheeky jibe against Angel Di Maria.
The Paris Saint-Germain winger has put together a fantastic career in the game – bar a woeful season at Old Trafford.

    2

With Di Maria and the Red Devils certainly not on each other’s Christmas card list, Tuesday’s 2-1 win was extra sweet for the Premier League club.
And an Instagram post picturing David De Gea making a save from Di Maria was taken by many to be a dig against the ex-Red.
The club’s caption read: “Big players step up in the big moments.”

Di Maria, 32, has bagged goals and assists left, right and centre for PSG, after a £44million switch in 2015.

That came after a terrible season at United, who paid Real Madrid almost £60m for his signature.
After a promising start in Manchester, it could not be said that Di Maria turned up in the big moments and he scored just four times in 33 appearances.
Likewise, he failed to produce any magic as PSG were beaten at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.
At seeing the club’s Instagram post, many were convinced it was a sly dig at the Argentine.

One fan wrote: “I see what you did there admin.”
    While Seb commented: “Beef.”
Joe replied: “UNITED WITH THE DISS INJECT IT.”
And another United supporter remarked: “Don’t mess with Manchester United.”

Bayern Munich vs Atletico Madrid to go ahead despite Gnabry training with squad before positive coronavirus test

BAYERN MUNICH’S Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid will go ahead despite Serge Gnabry training with the squad before returning a positive coronavirus test.
Gnabry, 25, tested positive after a training session on Monday with 24 other players from the German champs’ squad.

Bild Sport reports former Arsenal star Gnabry trained regularly with Bayern on Tuesday before his test result was known.
And pictures from training show him in close contact with 28-year-old team-mate David Alaba during a stretching exercise.
But a Uefa spokesperson confirmed the game WILL go ahead after all additional tests returned negative results for players in Hansi Flick’s squad ahead of their European opener.
Bayern were confident the game would go ahead as planned tonight at the Allianz Arena.

The club have introduced stringent hygiene measures at their training base to combat the pandemic.
Separate changing areas have been in use with showering carried out individually and areas regularly disinfected.
Medical staff take great care to ensure contact is minimised.
Players were tested individually today, with those producing a negative result able to travel to the stadium for the game.

Uefa regulations state matches will be played when scheduled if both sides have a minimum of 13 professionals, including one keeper, available.
Defending European champs Bayern will be without wideman Gnabry – who bagged nine goals in ten Champions League games last season – after he entered a period of self-isolation but is said to be doing well.
Former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane is also absent through injury, leaving Flick short of options in the wide positions.

Barcelona 5 Ferencvaros 1 LIVE REACTION: Ten-man Barca beat Hungarians as FIVE different scorers net at Nou Camp

    GOODNIGHT!
That’s all from me, guys. Cracking night for Barca, who managed to overcome a few early shaky moments to beat Hungarian minnows Ferencvaros 5-1 tonight.
Koeman will be pleased he got the best out of his players, including youngsters Pedro and Fati.

There’ll be more Champions League coverage on SunSport on Wednesday night.
    Until then, goodnight guys! More
