Erling Haaland gets hands on Man City shirt and has another chat with Phil Foden after Dortmund are dumped out of Europe

ERLING HAALAND got his hands on a Man City shirt last night – but it was just an end-of-game swap. The Dortmund goal machine is at the centre of a massive transfer tussle between Europe’s big clubs including City.

The 20-year-old Norwegian was handed a light blue shirt after Dortmund’s Champions League exit.
He swapped shirts with Oleksandr Zinchenko at the end of the quarter-final second leg.
And Haaland was also seen chatting with Man City’s match winner Phil Foden after the game.
The Dortmund superstar could soon be lining up alongside Foden and Zinchenko if Man City win the race for his signature.
Manchester United are also in the frame, as are Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
But his agent Mino Raiola claimed that Dortmund might refuse to sell Haaland in the summer.
He told Sport1: “I can confirm that I was in Dortmund for talks.
“Michael Zorc made it clear to us that BVB does not want to sell Erling this summer.

“I respect that opinion, but that does not automatically mean that I also agree. BVB were very clear in their views. We are OK with that.
“There is no war between us and BVB – absolutely not. The relationship with Zorc, Hans-Joachim Watzke and Kehl is still good.”
The prolific Haaland has banged in 39 goals in 43 games this season for Dortmund and Norway.
Dortmund chief Sebastian Kehl wants to keep hold of the striker for as long as possible but is resigned to losing him eventually.
Kehl told Sky Germany: “Our position is clear – we are planning with Erling. We are very relaxed about that.
“Of course, we have been following the situation. But we had a very, very good talk with Mino and his [Haaland’s] father just recently.

“I don’t want to go into those talks now. From a certain point on, we may no longer be able to influence what the future will bring.
“I have seen the boy in training in the last two days and I have seen how hungry he is and the sparkle is in his eyes. We are very ambitious, we need Erling to achieve our sporting goals, and we have made that clear.”
Man City came from behind to win the second leg and set up a semi-final showdown with PSG.
Foden scored the winner in a 2-1 victory that sealed a 4-2 aggregate win and a place in the last four.

Furious Phil Foden deletes unauthorised tweet ‘calling out’ PSG star Kylian Mbappe after Man City win at Dortmund

PHIL FODEN was forced to delete a tweet about Kylian Mbappe after Man City set up a Champions League semi-final against PSG.A tweet from the City rising star’s account appeared to throw down the gauntlet to French striker Mbappe.
A tweet from Phil Foden’s account appeared to call out Kylian MbappeCredit: Twitter
The tweet said ‘@KMbappe’ are you ready’ and was posted minutes after Pep Guardiola’s men beat Dortmund on Wednesday night.
According to Daily Mail, the tweet from Foden’s account was posted without his permission and he was left furious.
The report added that Foden quickly asked for the tweet to be deleted.
Foden scored the winner as Man City came from behind to beat Dortmund 2-1 on the night to seal a 4-2 aggregate win.
Man City will face PSG in a mouth-watering semi-final showdown after the French side knocked out holders Bayern Munich.
And striker Mbappe is likely to pose the biggest threat to Guardiola’s side in their bid to win an elusive Champions League.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville recently said it was ‘a shame’ that players didn’t control their own social media.
The Sky Sports pundit spoke after several players posted near identical tweets following England’s victory over Albania last month.

I mentioned on here a few weeks ago about players having their accounts run by social media companies. Lads run your own accounts! Your independent thought and authenticity is at stake . It’s your voice , not anyone else’s. Morning by the way . Go and attack the hell out of it ❤️ pic.twitter.com/M997r8kbWa— Gary Neville (@GNev2) April 15, 2021

The former Three Lions defender, who won 85 caps, said: “Reading some of the England players tweets last night. Do any of the lads post themselves? They don’t sound authentic.
“It’s a real shame they don’t manage their personal connection to the fans and media.”
And this morning he tweeted: “I mentioned on here a few weeks ago about players having their accounts run by social media companies.
“Lads run your own accounts! Your independent thought and authenticity is at stake. It’s your voice, not anyone else’s.”

Joe Hart was also left red faced last month after a massive gaffe from his social media team.
Spurs were dumped out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb, but Hart’s Instagram posted ‘job done’ despite the defeat.
Hart said: “I feel like I need to come on and make an apology on behalf of my social media team, I’ve literally just woke up.
“Someone thought that we’d won 3-0 last night. As sloppy as it sounds it’s the truth.
“They posted ‘job done’. That’s unacceptable. I’m sure that’s annoyed a lot of people and I’m sorry it’s come to that but it’s obviously not come from me.”

Peter Crouch has BT Sport pundits in stitches as he forgets his own Champions League heroics

PETER CROUCH was stunned to learn that Phil Foden had matched his own Champions League feat – because he had forgotten doing it.The former England striker, 40, provided a hilarious moment on BT Sport’s coverage of Manchester City’s win on Wednesday night.
Peter Crouch could only laugh after forgetting his scoring feat
Foden’s winner against Borussia Dortmund meant he was the second-youngest player to score in both legs of a Champions League quarter-final tie, behind Kylian Mbappe.
Four English players had managed to do so previously and Jake Humphreys asked pundits Crouch, Owen Hargreaves and Joleon Lescott who the others were.
The trio correctly recalled Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard from the list, which also included Raheem Sterling.
And Humphreys put the final answer to a confused Crouch, confirming that it was the man himself.
He quickly asked ‘was it?’ before the studio erupted into laughter.
The ex-forward remarked: “I was a good player, you know.

    “Good times.”
Humphreys revealed that he presumed Crouch knew all along that he was on the list, setting him up for a triumphant confirmation to no avail.
Indeed, he bagged in both legs of Liverpool’s quarter-final tie with PSV Eindhoven in 2007.
The 4-0 aggregate win featured two of Crouch’s six goals in the competition that year as the Reds reached the final, but lost to AC Milan.

Borussia Dortmund 1 Man City 2 (2-4): Foden thunderbolt caps comeback after Bellingham threatened Pep’s Quadruple dream

PHIL FODEN must have felt the intensity of the torture session Pep Guardiola had been put through.Because, when Manchester City’s young Mancunian maestro rammed home the goal which clinched this tie, he sprinted straight over to his manager and the pair indulged in a long, tight embrace which was one part pure joy and two parts sheer relief.

Guardiola has been so cautious with Foden’s progress. Foden has been patient too, while his starting opportunities were being rationed so strictly by the Catalan.
Yet this was his moment, the moment he sent Guardiola’s City into the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in five attempts.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed plenty of big moments during City’s pursuit of the quadruple – especially a man-of-the-match display in a 4-1 thumping of Liverpool at Anfield.
But this, along with the winner in the first leg of this belting quarter-final tie, was the most significant of all.
Somehow you just knew there was going to be an element of agony for Guardiola last night.
His recent history in the Champions League almost demanded that it was so.
Indeed, old-school, fatalistic City fans will tell you that their club’s entire history demanded it too.
But finally he has made into the semis – a stage which City have reached just once previously, during the dog days of Manuel Pellegrini’s reign.

Emre Can’s handball was confirmed by a VAR checkCredit: BT Sport
There they will face Paris Saint-Germain, managed by Mauricio Pochettino, whose Tottenham side edged out City in a quarter-final classic two seasons ago.
That Oil Clasico fixture – pitting Abu Dhabi’s wealth against that of Qatar and pitting Neymar and Kylian Mbappe against Guardiola’s wonderful side – should provide us with two matches of the highest quality.
The agony for Guardiola was provided by England teenager Jude Bellingham – and what a player he is, by the way – netting a peach of a goal to hand Borussia Dortmund an early lead, which would have been enough to put them through on away goals had they shut City out.
That never looked likely though as City attacked their hosts with great verve – equalising through a nerveless Riyad Mahrez penalty and sealing the tie through Foden’s emphatic 76th-minute strike.
Guardiola has often turned on the sarcasm to insist he will be regarded as a ‘failure’ if he doesn’t win the Champions League with City – but failing to reach the semi-finals in four previous attempts was clearly a blot on his extraordinary CV.
And he bristles when he is accused of ‘over-thinking’ his line-ups in the Champions League knock-out stage – even though the Catalan has been bang to rights on that charge in previous seasons.
That was not an accusation you could level at Guardiola in Germany because operating with a ‘false nine’ has become his Plan A for the biggest matches, as Sergio Aguero’s powers have faded.
Raheem Sterling was the most notable absentee, Foden’s growing stature confirmed by his inclusion.

Dortmund are unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League but they gave City a serious scare in the first leg.
And they were at it again within 15 minutes of the return, Haaland ran on to a long-range Emre Can through-ball, got behind John Stones and cut back for Bellingham who twinkled his toes, three touches in a tight space, and the third one curling it past Ederson into the corner of the net.
The Brummie kid had only scored his first Bundesliga goal at the weekend – now he was the youngest English goalscorer in Champions League history at the age of 17.
City had never taken a lead into the second leg of a quarter-final under Guardiola – but suddenly the old fears were surfacing again.
Almost immediately, Marco Reus had a sight of goal – his shot blocked by Kyle Walker.
Then the ball burst – as if it couldn’t stand the tension either.

Guardiola’s temples were throbbing, he was darting about his technical area, acting as a hyperactive ballboy at times.
City were picking up on their manager’s sense of urgency – they were passing with an aggressive rat-a-tat-tat tempo and attacking with murderous intent.
Kevin De Bruyne crashed a shot against bar after he had robbed Mateu Morey, then Riyad Mahrez shot had a shot blocked by Bellingham after a crafty cut-back from Foden.
Yet Dortmund held firm amid the mayhem – Bellingham was booked for a cynical foul on Foden, who had just made a bullish challenge of his own to win possession in the left-back position.
These English kids were relishing the occasion – Gareth Southgate would have been enjoying the spectacle.
Oleksandr Zinchenko had a cross-shot tipped over by Marwin Hitz before Foden’s cross was handled by Can and ref Carlos del Cello Grande pointed to the spot.

There was a lengthy VAR review as the ball had grazed Can’s head on its way onto his arm – but the spot-kick stood and Mahrez, who has missed a crucial penalty at Anfield in the past, crashed his effort into the corner of the net.
De Bruyne surged through a clutch of Dortmund players only to shoot well wide.
The Belgian then went on a glorious zig-zag through the home defence only for Hitz to stretch himself and turn round the post.
The resulting corner was taken short to Foden, who rammed it low, in off the near-post, before he sprinted straight to the touchline for that long embrace.

Liverpool ace Alexander-Arnold urged to consider midfield switch and told he can match Lahm and Kimmich by Gary Lineker

TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD has been told to consider a move to midfield amid questions over his defensive displays. The spotlight has been shone on the Liverpool star, 22, following Gareth Southgate’s decision to drop him for England’s World Cup qualifiers.

Rio Ferdinand and Gary Lineker discussed his qualities ahead of the Reds’ game with Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
And former defender Ferdinand felt the scrutiny was a sign of Alexander-Arnold’s progress.
He told BT Sport: “It shows you how far he’s come over the last couple of years that everyone is honing in on this kid’s performances.
“Yes some parts of his defending need to be improved but what 22-year-old hasn’t?
“The kid’s an immense talent and Liverpool need that ability to find passes that other midfielders in the world can’t find, let alone right-backs.”
Lineker stated his opinion that a move to midfield may help Alexander-Arnold.
A number of other players, from Philipp Lahm to Joshua Kimmich, have set the example of how to successfully transition up the pitch.
The ex-striker noted: “I’ve said for years I see him as a midfielder.
“Some parts of his game in terms of defending need to improve… But what 21/22-year-old doesn’t?””I see him as a midfield player. You could see him being like a Lahm, Kimmich, even Cancelo.”🗣 @GaryLineker and @rioferdy5 discuss TAA 🔴 pic.twitter.com/rTV9T8Q7Q9— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) April 14, 2021

“He used to be a midfielder who was kind of thrust into playing at right-back and has stuck there.
“You can see him being a Lahm, a Kimmich, even like [Joao] Cancelo plays at Manchester City. He’s got that within him, hasn’t he?”
However, Ferdinand did not share this view and could not see Jurgen Klopp moving his first-choice right-back up the pitch.
He stated: “He’s got to stick where he is, I think.
“I don’t think Klopp’s going to change him, but what I do notice about this player is he’s got character.”

Thomas Tuchel dedicates Chelsea’s win over Porto to Mateo Kovacic who missed clash with training hamstring injury

And boss Tuchel says “big loss” Kovacic is also out of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City.
And after the Blues lost 1-0 to Porto in Sevilla to reach the last-four 2-1 on aggregate, Tuchel revealed Kovacic’s anguish.
The ex-PSG chief said: “I was very sad yesterday to see him after twenty minutes in training to have this little muscle injury more or less out of nothing.
“We played little boxes after training just to have a little sweat and he felt his hamstring.
“So he is for sure out of the game against City as well, which is a big loss.
“I was very sad for him because we don’t have so many experienced players that have played Champions League many times.

“So if you see him when the anthem is playing and he stands there that he’s relaxed and he’s a hard fighter – everyone is happy to have him around. So we did it for him.”
Chelsea will face Real Madrid or Liverpool in the semi-finals, with the Spaniards 3-1 up ahead of Wednesday night’s second leg at Anfield.
And Tuchel would prefer to face Zinedine Zidane’s men.

He told BT Sport: “In general I like it in Champions League not to play teams from your own league because it gets a bit more the feeling of the European competition.
“But whoever deserves it – I think the game is far from over – but I will watch it for sure.
“It’s a pleasure to watch it as semi-finalists, a great achievement.”

CHELSEA winger Christian Pulisic equalled Lionel Messi’s Champions League foul record against Porto on Tuesday after he was brought down 11 times. The 22-year-old put in a man of the match display against the Portuguese outfit as he helped the Blues advance into the last four of the European Cup.

Despite losing the second leg 1-0, the West Londoners secured their passage into the semi-finals for the first time since 2014 after winning 2-1 on aggregate.
And Pulisic stole the show at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium as he completed 100 per cent of his take-ons, won 16 duels and recovered the ball on seven occasions.
The American forward also drew more fouls than any other player in the Champions League since Lionel Messi in 2011.
Messi received brutal treatment from the Real Madrid squad during the semi-final second leg clash at the Nou Camp.
But just like Porto’s rough tactics on Pulisic, Real couldn’t stop Messi as the Blaugrana advanced into the final where they beat Manchester United at Wembley.
Pulisic has been in great form of late, with the ex-Borussia Dortmund ace scoring three goals in Chelsea’s last two Premier League games.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website following the 4-1 victory against Crystal Palace, Pulisic declared he is feeling back to his best.
He stated: “Personally I am feeling very good. I am happy to be playing and helping the team whichever way I can.

Ex-Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink thought 2009 Champions League semi-final vs Barcelona could have been ‘fixed’

GUUS HIDDINK thought Chelsea’s 2009 Champions League semi-final defeat to Barcelona might have been fixed – even though the referee owned up to making mistakes. The Blues were denied a spot in the final after the official Tom Henning Ovrebo made a series of blunders.
Dider Drogba verbally abuses ref Tom Henning Ovrebo back in 2009 while (inset) boss Guus Hiddink pulls his furious striker away
Hiddink, manager of Chelsea at the time, branded the officialdom as ‘the worst refereeing I have ever seen’.
He told Ziggo Sport in 2020: “The referee performance surprised me, because in the past he’d had perfect performances.
“Is it the worst refereeing I’ve ever seen? I think so.”
The Dutchman alleged: “This is the only time I thought a match could’ve been fixed.”
Barca went on to beat Manchester United in the final.
Hiddink claims football chiefs would not have wanted a repeat of the all-English final between Chelsea and United the year before, won by the Red Devils on spot-kicks.
But in an interview with SunSport in February 2018, Norwegian whistler Ovrebo admitted to making genuine mistakes during the match.
Ovrebo, who works as a psychologist in Oslo now, turned down FOUR Blues’ penalty claims before Chelsea were cruelly eliminated by Andres Iniesta’s 94th-minute goal for Barca which put them through on away goals.

Death threats were made after the game by people claiming to be Chelsea fans, while straight after the match Blues striker Didier Drogba verbally attacked the ref, and later received a five-match ban.
Ovrebo said: “I was happy with 95 per cent of my decisions. But there were some decisions that were not dealt with in the correct manner.
“One handball earlier in the game should have been a penalty. People will always have different opinions about the game.
“But everyone agrees the refereeing that night was not optimal. And I am the first to agree with them.”
At the time Uefa dismissed the conspiracy theories around the game.
Uefa general secretary David Taylor said: “If anything it’s a media conspiracy against Uefa.
“It does make me angry. It really annoys me because it’s a load of rubbish.”
