Jose Mourinho claims Bayern loss while Real Madrid boss after Cristiano Ronaldo penalty miss was saddest moment

JOSE MOURINHO once revealed the only time he shed tears after a defeat was when Real Madrid lost on penalties to Bayern Munich back in 2012.The Portuguese had already steered Los Blancos to a record-setting year in LaLiga but was denied the chance to make it a Champions League double against the Germans.

Madrid were the heavy favourites for Europe’s top competition having overhauled Barcelona domestically with the most points, goals and home wins.
But Mourinho, who had already lifted the Champions League twice with Porto and Inter Milan, missed out on a three-piece at the Bernabeu.
The Special One saw Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Sergio Ramos miss from the spot as Madrid fell to Bayern on penalties in the 2012 semi-finals.
He would have met his former side Chelsea in the final, who in turn, bested the Bundesliga side in a shootout to win their first-ever Champions League on penalties.
That night is the only time in my career as a coach that I’ve cried after a defeat. It was very hard because we were the best that seasonJose Mourinho
And speaking to Spanish outlet MARCA, Mourinho admitted he found it hard losing the chance to play for La Decima and was reduced to tears.
He said: “Unfortunately, that’s football. Cristiano, Kaka, Sergio Ramos… three complete monsters of football, there’s no doubt about that, but they’re also human.
“That night is the only time in my career as a coach that I’ve cried after a defeat. I remember it well… Aitor [Karanka] and I pulled up in front of my house, in the car, crying…
“It was very hard because we were the best that season.”

Opening up about the incident further in an interview with Portuguese TV channel Sic, Mourinho admitted it was still the saddest moment of his career.
He said: “If I have to choose the worst moment, it’s that elimination with Real Madrid.
“We were the best team in Europe, without a doubt, we won LaLiga smashing all the records for points and goals and we would’ve won that final, I don’t have any doubt.
“What was most cruel for me was that in the shoot-out we chose Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Sergio Ramos, they were dead certs from the penalty spot and the guys who missed were those who never miss, it sunk me.”

SunSport previously revealed that it was the Chelsea dressing room who broke down in tears after Mourinho was sacked in 2007.
Club captain John Terry said he and his team-mates were so devastated and shocked they approached the Blues board to reverse their decision.
The former England skipper would be reunited Mourinho in 2013 with the pair winning the Premier League for a third time two years later.

How Arsenal and Chelsea could stop Liverpool from qualifying for Champions League with cup wins this season

LIVERPOOL will be praying that Arsenal and Chelsea fail to conquer Europe this season. The Gunners advanced to the Europa League semi-finals after hammering Sparta Prague last night.

And the Blues reached the last four of the Champions League by advancing past Porto earlier in the week.
Meanwhile, the Reds were knocked out of the same competition by Real Madrid, meaning only a top four finish in the Premier League will secure a place in the continent’s prestige competition next term.
As things stand, it is currently Leicester City and West Ham United who would join Manchester City and neighbours United in the Champions League.
But the race is firmly on, with even eight-placed Everton still harbouring hopes of a top four finish.
Here are some of the scenarios that could pan out and what that would mean – with one being an absolute nightmare for Liverpool:
    Man City win the CL
The Cityzens are already mathematically guaranteed their place in the top four and are closing in on the title.
And if they go all the way in Europe then things would remain exactly the same as normal.

This would be Liverpool’s nightmare scenario.
Should the London sides win the Uefa competitions and finish outside the top four, they will both be assured of a place in next season’s Champions League.
However, even though the Champions League winners are given an additional space in competition for the following campaign, that rule does not apply when the Europa League winner is also from the same country.
That would mean that the fourth-placed Prem team would drop into the Europa League – meaning the Reds, Leicester, West Ham, Tottenham and Everton would miss out on the Champions League.

Furious Phil Foden AXES social media company behind Man City star’s tweet calling out PSG’s Kylian Mbappe ahead of clash

FURIOUS Phil Foden axed the social media company behind the tweet calling out Kylian Mbappe. The Manchester City star, 20, appeared to challenge the Paris Saint-Germain forward ahead of the Champions League semi-final with a tweet from his account saying: “@KMbappe are you ready.”
Phil Foden cut ties with PR company Ten Toes Media after their Twitter blunder on Wednesday nightCredit: Getty

But the now-deleted message – which did not go down well with the midfielder – was actually posted by PR brand Ten Toes Media.
As revealed by the Daily Mail, Foden broke off his partnership with the company on Thursday, less than 24 hours after the awkward gaffe seemingly aimed to antagonise one of the world’s best footballers.
It was initially thought the post was published without permission but they revealed all social media activity must be approved by the athlete first.
Ten Toes Media are ‘saddened’ by the fall-out but wished ‘special’ Foden well.
The company told told SunSport: “We are saddened with the current situation.
“Since the company was founded we have adopted a process which requires all posts to be approved in advance by the talent / representative – no exceptions.
“They always have been approved – that has been true for four years and is still true today.
“Phil Foden is a special person and footballer and we wish him the very best going forward.”

Foden, who is to become a dad for the second time, was with Ten Toes Media for much of his short career as the rising England star amassed 1.6million Instagram followers and nearly 500,000 on Twitter.
The ‘sports content specialists’ have Harry Kane, Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Victor Lindelof, Vincius Junior and Kasper Schmeichel on their clientele list.
Their website states: “We manage the media profiles and source commercial partners for elite talent and create engaging and authentic content for some of the world’s most renowned brands.
“We put in place rigourous [sic] plans for each client and expertly execute them via social media posting, on-strategy PR and the best media collaborations.
“This results in clients with bigger, better, digital footprints and a clear identity which brands want to align themselves with.”
But they clearly got it wrong with Wednesday night’s tweet, sent just minutes after full-time as City knocked Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League.
Phil Foden scored the winning goal in both legs to fire his boyhood club into the semi-finals where they face Mbappe’s PSG.
Lads run your own accounts… it’s your voice, not anyone else’sGary Neville
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville recently said it was ‘a shame’ that players didn’t control their own social media.
The Sky Sports pundit spoke after several players posted near identical tweets following England’s victory over Albania last month.
The former Three Lions defender, who won 85 caps, said: “Reading some of the England players tweets last night. Do any of the lads post themselves? They don’t sound authentic.
“It’s a real shame they don’t manage their personal connection to the fans and media.”
And this week he tweeted: “I mentioned on here a few weeks ago about players having their accounts run by social media companies.
“Lads run your own accounts! Your independent thought and authenticity is at stake. It’s your voice, not anyone else’s.”

ZINEDINE ZIDANE was caught GRINNING in the background when Casemiro got revenge on James Milner in Real Madrid’s win against Liverpool last night.Los Blancos dumped the Reds out of the Champions League with a 0-0 draw at Anfield, giving them a 3-1 aggregate win.

Both sides were dogged and determined as they produced a goalless display on Merseyside.
And Liverpool stalwart Milner set the tone early on with a crunching tackle on Real striker Karim Benzema.
The Frenchman was left in agony when Milner caught him on the ankle with a wild challenge.
Bizarrely, neither the referee nor VAR thought anything of it and let play continue as Benzema hobbled for the next few minutes.
    However, Real had not forgotten.
And Brazilian anchorman Casemiro exacted revenge later in the half when he produced his own lunge on the veteran Englishman.
The incident happened right in front of the touchline area, prompting Jurgen Klopp and the rest of his Liverpool staff to leap off the bench in protest.
But counterpart Zidane cut a cooler figure as Casemiro was shown a yellow card.

Casemiro’s challenge appeared to be motivated by Milner’s early wild lunge on Karim Benzema

Indeed, upon closer inspection the French tactician could be seen with a wide grin on his face, clearly delighted that his team got one back in the wild challenges department.
Zidane’s smile was even bigger when the final whistle blew at Anfield.
And he will now be preparing his Real team for an even tougher challenge against Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in the semi-finals.

Los Blancos overcame the pre-match drama to hold the Reds to a goalless draw and advance to a semi-final clash with Chelsea with a 3-1 aggregate victory.
Uefa observers at the game must decide whether to include the incident in their report.
Video footage and images of a broken window on the side of the luxury emerged on social media.
A Merseyside Police statement read: “An investigation is underway after damage was caused to the Real Madrid team bus this evening as it approached Anfield stadium.
“Such incidents will not be tolerated & we are working with Liverpool and reviewing CCTV and body worn footage.”
When one of Real’s buses parked up at the Kop end of the ground after the team had disembarked, it was apparent one pane of a double-glazed window had been smashed.
Liverpool staff could be seen cleaning up a pile of broken glass with Merseyside Police officers in attendance.
Hundreds of Liverpool fans had earlier been spotted lining Anfield Road ahead of kick-off.

Jude Bellingham, 17, gives cheeky response when asked about Champions League debut after leaving Guardiola stunned

JUDE BELLINGHAM joked he is ‘not bad for a Championship player’ after being hailed for his debut Champions League season. The England international joined Borussia Dortmund last summer for £25million after leaving boyhood club Birmingham.
Jude Bellingham joked he is ‘not bad for a Championship player’

In his first European campaign, he proved instrumental in Dortmund’s midfield, with ten appearances and a goal.
The strike came in the second leg of their quarter-final against Manchester City, which they lost 4-2 on aggregate.
But afterwards the 17-year-old was asked to comment on his meteoric rise and Bellingham took the chance to poke fun at any prior critics.
He said: “Not bad for a Championship player eh?
“I think I’ve taken every game in my stride, I had a bit of a tough start away at Lazio and then since then I think all of my best performances in BVB colours have come in the Champions League, including tonight.
“For me it’s brilliant to play in this competition and for this club, it’s a huge honour, so I can take a little bit away from that and learn from it but I’m still gutted we didn’t make it through.”
Bellingham was in demand at the end of last season, with City’s rivals United among the interested bidders.
But he moved to Germany in favour of more guaranteed game time, as Birmingham retired the No22 he wore.

Etihad boss Pep Guardiola was so blown away by Bellingham’s ability, he reckons the starlet must be fibbing about his age.
Guardiola said: “I cannot believe it, maybe he’s a liar! He’s so good for 17 years old, he’s a fantastic player.
“There was one moment when he didn’t get the ball from central defenders, how he shouts and demands that ball to him at 17 means a lot.
“I spoke with his manager, Edin [Terzic], and he told me what you see in these two games is like every training session.”
Despite the high praise, it was Phil Foden, 20, who stole the headlines after the two ties, following his winning goals in both games.

Guardiola said: “You have the feeling that he is a guy who never hides.
“He always creates something. He is dynamic offensively, defensively with quality in the smaller spaces.
“He is learning right now not to take just one touch. He is able to make more touches when making decisions.
“He scored two important goals. The second goal in the Etihad and now helped us to be in the semi-final. We knew it from the beginning and how he grew up.
“In the quarter-final of the Champions League, he was the important player to go through to play against PSG.”

Where are Man City’s XI from their 2011 Champions League debut against Napoli including Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure

MANCHESTER CITY were yet to win their first Premier League title when they debuted in the Champions League against Napoli nearly a decade ago.But Roberto Mancini’s side was already brimming with players that would write their names into the club’s history books.

It took the Sky Blues a while to get to grips with life at Europe’s top table, famously failing to reach the quarter-finals in any of their first four attempts.
But, having reached this year’s semi-finals courtesy of last night’s 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, and with a good chance of finally winning the tournament – what better time to remember those that started their journey?
City drew 1-1 with Napoli at Etihad Stadium on September 14, 2011 – as Aleksandar Kolarov’s 75th minute free-kick cancelled out Edinson Cavani’s opener.
Let’s take a look at who started for the Citizens that chilly night.
    JOE HART
Joe Hart was immense for City during the 2011-12 season, as Mancini’s men won their first Premier League title in the most dramatic of fashions.
The 75-cap England goalkeeper would go on to win the league again in 2014, before being forced out by Pep Guardiola following a decline in form.
Hart, now 33, has since played for Torino, West Ham and Burnley – before joining Tottenham as back-up last summer.

    PABLO ZABALETA
Excellent Argentine starred for Manchester City for nine years, making 333 appearances in the process.
Right-back Zabaleta, now 36, left City in 2017, following Guardiola’s first season at the club.
Three years with West Ham followed, before he hung up his boots last October.

    VINCENT KOMPANY
The first of four stand-out legends in this starting XI, skipper Vincent Kompany was Mr. Man City for 11 years, following his arrival from Hamburg in 2008.
Kompany’s last four years at the Etihad were littered with injuries, but he provided one last memorable moment in his final season, scoring a screamer against Leicester on the way to his fourth Premier League title with the club.
He left to become head coach of Anderlecht in Belgium, before hanging up his boots last summer to focus on his management, now aged 35.

    JOLEON LESCOTT
Joleon Lescott played 31 of City’s 38 games on the way to their first Premier League title in the 2011-12 season.
Another triumph would follow in 2014, before moves to West Brom, Aston Villa, AEK Athens and Sunderland – eventually hanging up his boots in 2017.
He is often seen now as a pundit, but nearly came out of retirement aged 38 last November to play for Spanish third-tier side Racing Murcia in a Copa del Rey match against Levante – before the agreement fell through because of a misunderstanding.

    ALEKSANDAR KOLAROV
Serbian Aleksandar Kolarov was known for his brilliant left-foot, with its quality on show for all to see that night against Napoli.
He vied with Gael Clichy for the left-back starting spot for seven years at the Etihad – before leaving at the same time as the Frenchman when he joined AS Roma in 2017.
Kolarov, now 35, currently turns out for Inter Milan, having joined for just £1.35million last summer.

    DAVID SILVA
Another bona fide City legend, ‘El Mago’ dazzled delighted fans at the Etihad for ten glorious years, before deciding to leave for Real Sociedad last summer.
Silva, 35, won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups across his 436 appearances for City.
And the winning hasn’t stopped, as he added the Copa del Rey to his collection with Sociedad earlier this month.

    YAYA TOURE
Undoubtedly one of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League, Yaya Toure became a fan favourite at Manchester City between 2010 and 2018.
The Ivorian starred on the way to three league titles, and also scored stunning goals in the 2011 FA Cup final and 2014 League Cup final.
After a brief spell at Olympiacos in 2018, he joined Qingdao Huanghai in China League One, winning a league title there before shocking fans by training with Leyton Orient last summer. He is now assistant manager at Ukrainian side Olympik Donetsk.

    GARETH BARRY
Steady midfielder Gareth Barry was a mainstay as City won their first title, and stayed for another year before joining Everton, initially on loan.
After four years at Goodison Park he joined West Bromwich Albion, where he would break the Premier League record for most appearances, finishing 21 ahead of Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.
Barry, now 40, hung up his boots last August, and can now be seen doing punditry work on BT Sport.

    SAMIR NASRI
French maverick Samir Nasri joined City from Arsenal in 2011 and would show off his silky skills for six years at Etihad Stadium.
Having played on loan at Sevilla, Nasri joined Turkish side Antalyaspor in 2017, before having his spell curtailed by a doping ban.
After completing his suspension, he reunited with former Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini, and then Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht, but has not played since leaving the Belgians last year – despite being only 33.

    EDIN DZEKO
Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko would go on to score a crucial equaliser as City beat QPR 3-2 on the final day to seal the Premier League’s most dramatic title.
Dzeko would play for City for another three seasons, before joining AS Roma, initially on loan.
Now 35, he still resides in the Italian capital, having been a hit at the Stadio Olimpico, scoring 116 goals in 251 appearances – including 39 in the 2016-17 season.

    SERGIO AGUERO
Sergio Aguero would write his name into football folklore at the end of that season, by scoring the most dramatic goal in Premier League history in the dying embers of that match against QPR.
And the Argentine has continued to go from strength to strength for City, with his tally in Sky Blue now up to 257.
Upon the news that he will leave City at the end of the season, the club confirmed that a statue will be built to commemorate their greatest ever striker – while he could join up with pal Lionel Messi at Barcelona this summer.
