Damien Duff SLAMS ex-Chelsea star Eden Hazard for turning up to Real Madrid ‘fat’ and ‘never being a top pro’

DAMIEN DUFF took aim at Real Madrid star Eden Hazard on Tuesday night – for turning up to training ‘fat’.The Irishman’s remarkable tirade against his fellow former Chelsea winger came after the Blues’ 1-1 Champions League draw with Los Blancos.

Hazard came off the bench in the semi-final first leg but failed to make an impact after a long spell out injured.
And the Belgian’s poor form since joining the LaLiga giants for an initial £88million left Duff worried because he sees Hazard as not ‘a top pro’.
The 42-year-old told RTE: “You’d worry for him going forward.
“He’s 30, he relies on sharpness, being a quick dribbler. We all know after 30 it’s… like that (points downward).
“He’s never been a top pro and he’s never had the drive of [Lionel] Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo. If he did, you’d probably be mentioning him with them two players.
“He turned up for his first pre-season at Real Madrid – Galactico, 160 million [euros] – overweight. Fat. Call it what you want.

“You’d worry for him, because he’s had 11 injuries and to come back from 11 injuries – and he’s hardly played in two years – you need to have drive, you need to be a top pro.
“I hate aiming it at a player, but it’s always been aimed at him anyway.”
Hazard, 30, admitted in November 2019 that he arrived at Real overweight – but insisted he found it easy trimming the pounds.
He said: “I’m not going to hide it, but when I’m on vacation, I’m on vacation.
“I had put on five kilos, I’m the type to put on quickly and lose so quickly if I’m careful. When I was 18, in Lille, I was 72 or 73kg. I was 80kg this summer, I lost it in 10 days.”
However, two-time Premier League winner Duff felt that Hazard, who has also won the league twice, has no excuses given how he started his Madrid career.
To be signed by Madrid, you turn up to pre-season in the shape of your life. And he turned up overweight because he was on holiday.Damien Duff

He added: “You could argue that throughout his career, he’s always battled with his weight.
“To be signed by Real Madrid, 160 million, you turn up to pre-season in the shape of your life.
“And he turned up overweight because he was on holiday. I ain’t having that.”

Real Madrid star Marcelo could miss Champions League clash at Chelsea after being called up to monitor local election

REAL MADRID are fighting to have Marcelo available for next week’s clash with Chelsea after he was called up for election duty.Voters will pick their candidates for the Assembly of Madrid on Tuesday May 4, the day before the Champions League semi-final second leg.
Marcelo may be unavailable for Real Madrid’s game next WednesdayCredit: EPA
According to El Mundo, Marcelo, 32, has been randomly selected to monitor a polling station in the Spanish capital.
That would prevent him from joining his Real team-mates in flying to London on Tuesday.
Local authorities have reportedly argued that he can jet off on the day of the game after working at the ballot box, but that would encounter issues with Uefa’s coronavirus protocols.
Travelling separately from the rest of the squad would break Madrid’s Covid bubble.
Therefore Los Blancos have filed an appeal to have the left-back, who is a Spanish citizen, removed from the post.
It is said that Marcelo is deeply unhappy about the call-up and his entourage, as well as Real bosses, are working on overturning the decision.
Brazil international Marcelo was was given a Spanish passport in 2011, so that he did not take up a non-EU place in the Madrid squad.

The polling station workers were selected on April 5 and are paid £56 for their day’s work.
There is a seven-day period for appeals to be lodged with Real’s queries so far being rejected.
The LaLiga giants are nonetheless described as confident that Marcelo will be freed for the Stamford Bridge trip.
Exemptions can be made for citizens who are required for ‘essential community services of vital importance’ on the day of polls, although that is typically reserved for professionals such as firefighters or medics.

A precedent Real may call back to is that of Aitor Fernandez, the Levante goalkeeper who was excused from a 2019 voting booth call-up on the same day as a game against Athletic Club after a second appeal.
Marcelo started the 1-1 first leg draw due to an injury to Ferland Mendy, who remains a doubt for next week.
Christian Pulisic scored early for the Blues before a Karim Benzema equaliser at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

Thiago Silva’s wife SLAMS Chelsea star Timo Werner after Real Madrid draw and moans about striker missing chances

THIAGO SILVA’S wife Isabelle blasted her husband’s team-mate Timo Werner during Chelsea’s Champions League draw with Real Madrid. The German was guilty of missing some clear cut chances in the semi-final and Silva’s wife took aim on her Instagram.

In a now deleted video, Isabelle was heard speaking in Portuguese as she filmed the TV she was watching the game on.
And in quotes translated by the Metro said: “This is karma, guys.
“Every team I go to there is a striker who keeps missing goals… this Werner, what is his name?”
In a second video posted on her account, the 34-year-old added: “We need a goal, we need to win this match but my attackers don’t want to score, I don’t know why they don’t score.”
And in a separate video shared on Twitter, Vitor Gava claimed she called the striker a ‘worm’ in Portuguese.
Chelsea drew 1-1 in Spain after Karim Benzema’s acrobatic effort cancelled out Christian Pulisic’s opener after 14 minutes.
Though still an excellent result for the West Londoners ahead of the second-leg, it could have been much better for the Blues if Werner hadn’t missed from close range.
Thomas Tuchel revealed one goal in 13 Werner was angry with his miss after the game – especially as he did a similar thing at West Ham on Saturday.

Tuchel said: “He missed a big one at West Ham, now he missed another big one here, that does not help.
“But it also doesn’t help to cry about it or to regret it all the time.
“It’s like this, there are millions of people who have harder things to deal with than chances that you miss.
“So this is the good thing about sports, nobody cares tomorrow. Today, we were sad, angry in the moment, this is normal.
“He’s angry, he is disappointed, tomorrow he has a free day and the next day he has to put his chin up.
“He is a professional guy, he is a top guy, he works hard, he gets in the positions, and from there on we go.
“We will never stop pushing, we will never stop believing, I have the feeling that everybody accepts the situation like this. A striker is easy, you score the next game and nobody speaks.”
It is not the first time Isabelle has got herself into hot water – previously saying Ben Chilwell is better than Andrew Robertson.

Watch Timo Werner miss an absolute sitter as Chelsea rue huge point-blank save in 1-1 draw with Real Madrid

CHELSEA will be hoping they do not live to regret a huge Timo Werner miss as the Blues drew 1-1 against Real Madrid. The German has developed an incredible reputation for missing absolute sitters since joining the Blues last summer.

Timo Werner wasted yet another golden chance as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Real MadridCredit: EPA
And while former Chelsea No1 Thibaut Courtois was at least forced into a save this time around, fans were left fuming by Werner’s wasteful finishing in the Champions League semi-final first leg at Valdebebas.
Mason Mount launched an incredible counter-attack, weaving his way from deep in his own half into Real Madrid’s penalty area.
After cutting inside onto his right foot, the England star took a shot at goal.
It subsequently took a huge deflection, spinning into Christian Pulisic’s path.
The American smartly nodded straight to Werner, who was all alone and had Courtois to beat from just six yards.
But beat him he could not – instead providing a typically meek finish straight at the imposing Belgian.
Despite the miss Chelsea did get their away goal a couple of minutes later, Christian Pulisic latching onto a Toni Rudiger through ball to round Courtois and smash home.
But for all their dominance, Chelsea could not extend their lead and were eventually pegged back by Real Madrid – Karim Benzema first controlling the ball with his head before smashing home a brilliant volley.

Fans on social media were not forgiving of Werner, despite former Chelsea keeper Courtois’ great stop.
Many are now left wondering if the Blues will rue that missed chance when the second leg comes round at Stamford Bridge next week.
One wrote: “£50million down the drain, Timo Werner misses again.”
And another added: “More like big miss from Werner. Anywhere but there.”

A third lamented: “Every match without fail.”
And a fourth asked: “how’s he missed?”
Werner, 25, did manage to notch a rare goal against West Ham at the weekend.
But that was just his first in the Premier League since February 15 and he followed it up with an astonishing miss at the London Stadium.
In total, the German has managed 11 goals in all competitions since joining for around £50million, with only six coming in the Premier League.

Chelsea chief Tuchel frustrated with draw despite becoming first CL boss EVER to go five unbeaten vs Real Madrid

CHELSEA boss Thomas Tuchel became the first manager in Champions League history to avoid defeat in his first five games against Real Madrid. But the German came away frustrated with his side’s performance only earning a 1-1 draw.

The Blues moved quickly out the blocks, creating excellent chances – most notably spurned by Timo Werner.
They did manage to take a 14th minute lead through Christian Pulisic, only to be pegged back by an excellent Karim Benzema strike on the half hour.
According to Opta, the result means that Tuchel ‘has faced Real Madrid more often without losing in the Champions League than against any other opponent’.
And he is the only gaffer to have ever avoided defeat in his first five games in the competition against the Spanish giants.
But still, the 47-year-old wanted more.
He told BT Sport: “We started the game very very well, with a lot of courage and quality. We deserved to win the first half, we had chances.
“Unfortunately they scored from a set-piece and they had nothing else, we didn’t allow any chances.
“It was a disappointing score at half time. We had to stay calm and not lose confidence.

“The second half was very tactical, you could feel that we are a bit tired. We only had a few days to recover from another tough away game. We have to live with 1-1.
“The goal was well deserved and we should have scored at least one more.
“We conceded more or less out of nothing and that can always happen against individual quality.”
The two sides will reconvene next Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge to determine who will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester City in the final.

Real striker Karim Benzema volleyed home a stunning equaliser – his 71st Champions League goal  and 277th for the Spanish giants.
But Pulisic’s opener, the first conceded by ex-Blues keeper Thibaut Cortois in six hours, 44 minutes, has given Thomas Tuchel’s team a huge advantage ahead of next Wednesday’s semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge.
It could have been even better for the Blues had  Timo Werner not blown a golden chance from six yards out.
But the prospect of an all-English final in Istanbul is still on the cards, with Manchester City meeting Paris St Germain in tonight’s first leg of the other  semi.
Blues star Cesar Azpilicueta said: “It was a great finish from Christian. He is an amazing player.
“But we could have scored more goals and it  could have been a different result.”
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel added: “We started the game very very well, with a lot of courage and quality. We deserved to win the first half, we had chances.
“Unfortunately they scored from a set-piece and they had nothing else, we didn’t allow any chances.

Cole explained: “Chelsea are great ball drivers. Mount, Pulisic, they drive with the ball and can take the ball up the pitch.

Chelsea verdict: Tuchel’s Blues should have beaten Real Madrid.. now they’re still underdogs despite Pulisic’s away goal

DESPITE what the Spanish press were trying to insinuate before kick-off, Chelsea were very much the underdogs against Real Madrid. The LaLiga giants were certainly – and still will be – favourites to go through to the Champions League final because of the clear experience and quality they possess.
Chelsea proved they were more than a match for Real Madrid as Christian Pulisic scored in a 1-1 drawCredit: EPA
Los Blancos are the experts of this competition and know exactly what it takes to win it regularly.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have won it just once back in 2012.
However, the ‘underdogs’ absolutely bossed the semi-final first leg at Valdebebas and fully deserved to win it over the 90 minutes.
Make no mistake, Real Madrid would have been the happier of the two teams at the end of this match despite it ending in a draw.
Zinedine Zidane would have been the much happier of the two managers at full-time, given how much better Chelsea played over 90 minutes.
The Blues will be happy of course, they got the away goal through Christian Pulisic and did not lose the tie.
But with the chances and the possession they had – as well as the way they totally bossed a top-quality team – the Blues would have felt that they deserved to come away with a win and a more comfortable scoreline to take back to Stamford Bridge.
Real Madrid were actually sitting deep and containing Chelsea through large periods of the second half.

They sensed Chelsea were the better team on the night and could have quite easily won the game.
That would have put them in an incredible position to get to the final of the Champions League.
Of course, they still might, and they have every chance to after that performance.
Thomas Tuchel’s men will be beaming with confidence after this game.
They really made a statement to the world of football that will perhaps see them pegged less as the ‘underdogs’ in future matches.
It might also make a few more people in the game stand back and really take note of Tuchel’s Chelsea.
If they can improve their work in the final third of the pitch, and make better decisions when attacking to get more goals, they will be a very scary and quality outfit to play against.

Chelsea ratings: Peerless N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva shackle Real Madrid but Timo Werner fails to make Spaniards pay

CHELSEA grabbed a useful first-leg draw at Real Madrid, as they bid to reach their first Champions League final since 2012.Christian Pulisic gave Thomas Tuchel’s side the lead with a brilliant finish, before Karim Benzema showed similar class to pull the Spaniards level.
Christian Pulisic got Chelsea off to the perfect startCredit: PA
The result, and crucial away goal, gives the Blues a slight edge going into next week’s return leg in West London, although the tie very much remains in the balance.
Here is how SunSport’s Simon Phillips rated each Chelsea player on the night.
    Edouard Mendy – 7
Surprisingly untested on the whole considering this was away tp Real Madrid.
Did his job well though when called upon though and had no chance of stopping Benzema’s world class finish.
    Andreas Christensen – 8
Looked very competent, as usual, and read the game very well.
Contributed nicely to the overall play when needed.
    Thiago Silva – 9
Silva’s calmness at the centre of defence was a massive plus for Chelsea, as always, against all of Real Madrid’s know-how.
Intelligent forward passing is a real bonus keeping play moving.

    Antonio Rudiger – 7
Played a magnificent pass over the top for Pulisic to get Chelsea’s first half goal.
As usual, his pace was needed and his contribution overall was good.
    Cesar Azpilicueta – 6
Often looks a little leggy playing in the wing back role and it doesn’t quite suit him.
But he was there for experience and he used that well and put in a decent performance.
    N’Golo Kante – 9
Was absolutely everywhere, once again. And was a real asset on the ball as well as in defence.
People say it is like having two players on the pitch and tonight he once again proved that to be a fact. World Class.
N’Golo Kante was excellent in midfieldCredit: AP
    Jorginho – 8
A good shift from him and he looked full of confidence commanding those ahead of him.
Read the game well and did a good job defensively for Chelsea.
He was also often looking for the key pass over the top which he almost almost caught Madrid out with a couple of times.
    Ben Chilwell – 7
Very neat and tidy performance as he helped Chelsea maintain pressure by keeping the ball moving.
Would have liked to have seen him contribute a bit better in the final third.
    Mason Mount – 8
His driving with the ball on counter attacks was causing Real Madrid issues and he dribbled well.
His energy and constant harassing was a real thorn in the Spaniards’ side in the middle of the park.
Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic were both sharpCredit: Reuters
    Christian Pulisic – 8
Took his goal very well under pressure and showed a calmness and great technical ability to round Thibaut Courtois and pick his spot in the back of the net.
    Timo Werner – 6
Missed an easy chance early on, and his decision-making was a little off on counter attacks in the final third.
But his pace on the break was always a problem for an ageing Madrid side.
Timo Werner added another terribly squandered opportunity to his collectionCredit: EPA
    SUBSTITUTES
Reece James for Azpilicueta – 7Much needed fresh legs, speed, and physicality for Chelsea.
Hakim Ziyech for Pulisic – 8Lively when he came on and really looked to make things happen.
Kai Havertz for Werner – 8Instantly looked better than Werner and more useful in possession.
