Team-mates expect him to report to Carrington on Monday when most of those on international duty last month are due back in.
The 37-year-old has made up his mind that he wants out – and his representatives are actively seeking a move for him.
They have sounded out Chelsea and Bayern Munich about a possible switch while Napoli are also keen to offer a return to Italy.
Sporting Lisbon and Porto are both weighing up whether they can provide an escape route back to his homeland.

But United are ready to play hardball with their club legend. Their stance remains that the Portuguese is under contract and not for sale.
He scored 24 times last season and the Red Devils are struggling to bring in their striker targets so far this summer.
They backed away from Uruguayan Darwin Nunez when Liverpool made their move and have so far been priced out of a move for Ajax’s £70million-rated Brazil star Antony.
Ronaldo is due to spend a few days at Carrington before jetting off with his team-mates on a 16 day tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday.

Ten Hag has impressed his players with their first week of pre-season – with forward Marcus Rashford speaking in glowing terms about him on Sunday.
But he faces a tough job to turn Ronaldo’s head. The former Real Madrid man is believed to be desperate to play in the Champions League again next season with time ticking on his career.
He also wants to be challenging for trophies in his final years as a player and does not believe United are capable of doing that.

The fact they have yet to add any new players to their squad has only heightened his concerns.
United will make full-back Tyrell Malacia their first new acquisition on Monday and are confident there will be more to follow.
However Ronaldo has already decided he will not be able to fulfil his ambitions at Old Trafford and wants out.
I don’t believe the club is willing to lose a player like himBruno Fernandes
Team-mate Bruno Fernandes confirmed last week he is back at training on Monday and expecting to see his countryman there.
He said: “What I hope is that Cristiano will be there with me on Monday. I don’t believe the club is willing to lose a player like him.”
Ronaldo played his last match for Portugal on June 9 so has now had more than his minimum entitlement of three weeks off.
Skipper Harry Maguire did not finish with England until five days later so is likely to be granted an extra couple of days.
Rashford has been back in training for a week already and feels sure the late arrivals will be impressed by the new Dutch boss Ten Hag.

Chelsea at front of queue to offer Cristiano Ronaldo Champions League football after Man Utd superstar’s transfer plea

CHELSEA are at the front of the queue to offer Cristiano Ronaldo Champions League football. The superstar forward sensationally told Manchester United he wants to quit.

The Red Devils are determined to stand firm and refuse to sell – but the Portuguese star insists they should give the green light to any ‘acceptable’ bids.
And that could see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner join rivals Chelsea, who finished third last season – and therefore have a seat at Europe’s top table.
Thomas Tuchel is on the hunt for a new striker following Romelu Lukaku’s season-long loan to Inter Milan.
That leaves Timo Werner and Kai Havertz as the only players who can really play up front in the squad.

say Cristiano Ronaldo will NOT be sold, Serge Gnabry EXCLUSIVE
The West Londoners are keen to make the forward their marquee signing this summer and have been keeping tabs on his situation with United.
New Blues chief Todd Boehly recently met with Ronaldo’s agent – Jorge Mendes – to discuss a host of topics, including a potential move for the sporting icon.
German giants Bayern are also interested in signing the veteran forward, who was a ray of light in an otherwise dismal season for the Red Devils.
Ronaldo was United’s top goalscorer, finding the back of the net 24 times and providing three assists in 39 appearances.

Sporting Lisbon inquired but Ronaldo’s £480,000-a-week wages mean there is little chance of a return while Serie A is a possible destination.
The transfer bombshell comes after a first week of pre-season training, where new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has earned rave reviews.
Ron, who is yet to return to Carrington, is unhappy at the prospect of playing a first season in almost two decades without Champions League football.

And he does not believe United’s squad are capable of mounting a title bid.
Sources in Portugal insist Ronaldo, who has 12 months left on his deal plus a one-year option, has not demanded a transfer and has no intention of doing so.
But United are refusing to deny he wants away.

Serge Gnabry is a shock name on the transfer radar of both Manchester clubs.
And he will leap to the top of City boss Pep Guardiola’s hit list if Raheem Sterling does leave the Premier League champions this summer.
Gnabry has turned down a new contract with Bayern Munich worth just over £200,000 a week.
Bayern are keen to keep the former Arsenal attacker who has just 12 months left on his current deal.
But the German champions will be open to a sale if they cannot reach an agreement.
And if Gnabry, 26, shows no sign of putting pen to paper in the current window, Bayern would be prepared to cash in for around £35million, as it is their last chance to demand a decent fee.

    Do no Ron
Manchester United wantaway star Cristiano Ronaldo should ignore Chelsea’s interest and stay put at Old Trafford, claims former striker Louis Saha.
Saha told BonusCodeBets: “It could go both ways, no one can guarantee anything apart from Cristiano. He’s the only one to answer that.
“It wouldn’t be the right move for Man United to let him go because he’s such a big asset.
“I can definitely see him continuing to keep doing what he’s doing best, which is scoring goals and helping his club get back to where it belongs.
“He can still play a part under [Erik] Ten Hag, not only by scoring goals, but with his stature.
“I’m sure the new manager will want to implement some new rules and new standards that fit with Ronaldo. Maybe not so much on the pressing side, but his work ethic and his desire to always be accountable.
“Performance-wise, Ronaldo is up there with the best, he’ll drive the players that need confidence, like [Marcus] Rashford.
“It’s a new manager, new rules, new atmosphere and I’m very excited”

The West Londoners are taking a strong interest in the midfielder’s talks with Old Trafford chiefs over personal terms.
And if the Manchester giants’ deal hits a stumbling block, it’s claimed Chelsea are ready to pounce
    Stef on it
Inter Milan star Stefan de Vrij has emerged as one of Manchester United’s top transfer targets.

Laporta said: “There are clubs that want him, not just United. We have no intention of selling him, he wants to stay.
“Frenkie is considered as one of the best midfielders in the world by all the experts. We are happy to have him.

    Andreas Pereira wants Flamengo return
Andreas Pereira has revealed he would like to return to Flamengo after spending the season on loan at the Brazilian club.
Flamengo had the option to make his move permanent but were unwilling to match Manchester United’s asking price.
Speaking to Brazilian reporter Raisa Simplicio, Pereira said: “I’m not the one who decides – it’s up to United.
“I would like to stay at Flamengo, but it’s not in my hands. I’ll see what’s best for me and the club. I love Flamengo. We will soon speak and decide.
“The relationship between myself and Flamengo has always been very good. This year was incredible for me. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll always leave with my head held high. I love the club, I love Flamengo, I’m Flamengo. If I leave, I will come back in the future.”
    United close to first signing
Manchester United could complete the signing of Tyrell Malacia within the next 24 hours, according to the BBC.
The Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the defender with only the finer details of the deal to be completed.
United agreed a £13million fee plus £1.7m in add-ons for the left-back, stealing Malacia from under the noses of Lyon.
    Rashford ready for “fresh start”
Marcus Rashford says he is ready to make a “fresh start” at Manchester United after the arrival of new manager Erik ten Hag.
The forward made only 13 Premier League starts last term but he is motivated to revive his own United fortunes with the benefit of “fresh tactics” and a full pre-season.
In an interview with MUTV Rashford said: “We have got that feeling of excitement and that buzz around the training ground again,” he said in an interview with MUTV. “It is a fresh start for everyone.
“I think for me, it is just fresh ideas, fresh tactics and a new personality (Ten Hag) that has been added to the team. I am looking forward to working with him.
“It has been tough, but we have all enjoyed the training sessions and we are mixing it up as well. We are not just doing all football and all running, we are doing a little bit of both so it’s fun and it’s good signs looking forward.”

He said: “There are clubs that want him, not just United. We have no intention of selling him, he wants to stay.
“Frenkie is considered as one of the best midfielders in the world by all the experts. We are happy to have him.

Manchester United want to recoup the money they spent to sign Cristiano Ronaldo if they are to let the striker leave this summer, report The Times.
United paid Juventus £12.9million to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, with add-ons potentially taking the deal to £17m.

    Arsenal set for Martinez talks
Arsenal will meet Ajax in the coming days to discuss a deal for Lisandro Martinez and are refusing to give up on the defender despite his preference being to join Manchester United.
They had been adamant they would not let Martinez leave unless they received an offer that was too good to turn down, and now both Arsenal and United are nearing that price tag for the Argentine.
Arsenal have also had several offers rebuffed, but The Athletic report that the Gunners’ hierarchy have scheduled a meeting with Ajax this week and are preparing to ramp up negotiations.
The north Londoners are still hopeful of agreeing a deal with both the club and the player and believe Martinez is open to joining them despite his links to Erik ten Hag.
    Rashford impressed by youngsters’ effort
Marcus Rashford has been impressed with Manchester United’s young players since returning to training this week.
And he is hopeful some will get the chance to join the first-team squad on their pre-season tour of south-east Asia and Australia.
He told Manutd.com: “Hopefully some of them get the opportunity to come with us and play some minutes.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them started the season with us as well because they have all started training well.
“They have all come back in good condition, so there are only positive things I can say really. Everyone is giving 100 per cent, which is the main thing at this stage of the season, and it is probably going to take another week and a half until we are all really fit and raring to go.
“In these periods when it is tough, when you are doing your first sets of runs, all of the lads have been doing that and I think the young lads have done well. The first team lads have set a good example, so hopefully they get an opportunity to come on the tour and play some games.”
    Serie A move for Ronaldo?
Napoli have joined the race to sign wantaway Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Red Devils legend recently informed the club that he wants to leave Old Trafford before the start of the new season.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich are interested in acquiring the Portugal international’s services, with the latter keeping close tabs on his situation.
And Serie A big boys Napoli are also said to be keen on landing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.
That’s according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who claims the Italians are “interested” in making a sensational swoop for United’s talisman.
    Big bucks sales
It might not be for the same price this summer, but Man Utd look set to be letting go of Cristiano Ronaldo for the second time.
He reportedly wants to leave the club to play Champions League football.
The last time they sold him, he cost £80m and he went on to win four Champions League titles without him.

    Standing returns
Premier League clubs will get the go-ahead to open safe standing areas in their grounds from the start of the new season.
Ministers are expected to announce the success of a trial at five stadiums – and invite all top-flight teams to introduce their own sections.
It will mean that fans will be able to stand to watch Prem or Championship matches for the first time in nearly 30 years.
Standing has been illegal in the two top divisions since all-seater stadiums were introduced in 1994 following the Taylor report into the Hillsborough disaster.
But following a pilot scheme last season at Chelsea, Spurs, Cardiff City, Man City and Man United, all other top clubs will be give the all clear to follow suit.
A final report on the government-commissioned trial seen by The Sun on Sunday says the sections delivered a positive impact on spectator safety and improved fans’ matchday experience.

De Jong de-lighted by top comp
Chelsea are hovering as Manchester United sweat on Frenkie de Jong agreeing personal terms over a £60million move.
That’s the claim from the Guardian, who say the Blues have one major advantage as the Barcelona midfielder wants Champions League football.
The Red Devils negotiated a fee close to £60m as Barca aim to ease their financial problems by cashing in on a major asset.
But it’s understood Chelsea are now taking a strong interest in De Jong’s talks with Old Trafford chiefs over personal demands.
Should there be any stumbling blocks in negotiations, the Blues seem ready to pounce.
    Watch this space…
    Toff call
Jesse Lingard may only join Everton as a last resort despite optimism of his capture within Goodison.
Lingard is now a free agent after leaving Manchester United.
Toffees boss Frank Lampard sees him as a major target.
And the Warrington-born target would not even have to move house if he switched to Goodison.
But the 29-year-old is understood to be wary of moving to a club with major money worries.
    Surge for Serge
    And another SunSport transfer exclusive…
    Piers tries his luck
With Cristiano Ronaldo ready to quit Manchester United for Champions League football, there will no doubt be a few of Europe’s elite clubs scrambling to sign him.
But Arsenal fan Piers Morgan attempted a cheeky bid to get the Portuguese superstar to the Emirates.
The TalkTV host shared a photo of himself presenting Ronaldo with a Gunners shirt, as Georgina Rodriguez looks on on Twitter.
Morgan captioned the snap, “It’s time @Cristiano #afc” in the ultimate of cheeky tweets.

    Ron his way
Chelsea are at the front of the queue to offer Cristiano Ronaldo Champions League football.
    Good morning Man Utd fans
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has asked to leave the club if a suitable offer arrives in the summer.
That is according to The Times, who report that Ronaldo wants out of United because he wishes to play in the Champions League.
The Red Devils missed out on Europe’s top competition after finishing sixth and will instead be in the Europa League.
That poses as a devastating blow for new manager Erik ten Hag, who is looking to turn things around at Old Trafford.
United have angrily responded to Ronaldo’s desire to quit Old Trafford telling him that won’t happen.
A club insider told the Daily Mirror: “Cristiano is not for sale.
“We want – and fully expect – him to be with us next season.”
Meanwhile, United have made Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong their summer transfer “priority”.
According to the Daily Mirror, De Jong is undoubtedly United’s most important target of the summer so far.
The midfielder is earmarked as Ten Hag’s priority in the off-season and will go a long way to replacing the likes of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in the centre.
The Netherlands international will put pen to paper on a five-year contract worth £250,000 per week once he touches down at Old Trafford following a £56million deal with Barca.
Finally, United star Dean Henderson has completed a season-long loan move to Nottingham Forest.
Henderson is looking for regular football ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and is expected to be Forest’s starting goalkeeper with last season’s No1 Brice Samba heading for the exit.
The newly-promoted team will pay all of the England international’s salary and it is understood there is no option to buy.
The 25-year-old will also not be able to compete against United during his loan stint at the City Ground
    Serge Gnabry exclusive
    In safe hands
Manchester United star David de Gea is confident that fans will “love” the style of play that new manager Erik ten Hag is implementing at the club.
De Geaclaims the improvements have made the United players “excited” about the future of the club.
The Spaniard told MUTV: “I think we are all very excited for the new season, for the new manager.
“He plays a very good [type of] football so for sure the fans will love it”

New Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag hopes to reunite with De Jong, as well as his old Ajax stars Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Jurrien Timber.
And United make a huge breakthrough last week when they finally persuaded Holland hero De Jong to consider leaving the Nou Camp.
The Red Devils negotiated a fee close to £60m as Barca aim to ease their financial problems by cashing in on a major asset.
But it’s understood Chelsea are now taking a strong interest in De Jong’s talks with Old Trafford chiefs over personal demands.

Kalvin Phillips couldn’t resist Man City, Pep Guardiola and Champions League but dream transfer may turn into nightmare

KALVIN Phillips was never going to turn Manchester City, Pep Guardiola and Erling Haaland down. But with the World Cup less than five months away, the midfielder’s imminent £45million move from Leeds is not without risk.
Kalvin Phillips is leaving boyhood club Leeds for Manchester City in a £45million moveCredit: Rex
Leaving his boyhood club will have been a gut-wrenching decision for Phillips.
Then again, it would have been a damn sight easier than when Aston Villa tried to sign him in 2019.
Phillips’ late nan, Granny Val, persuaded him to stay at Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa.
He has since won promotion, adapted to the Prem like a duck to water and played a starring role as England reached the Euros final last summer.

COMPLETES Spurs medical, Phillips to UNDERGO Man City medical
The Whites were understandably reluctant to sell their beloved ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’.
But at 26, with two years left on his contract, his stock is unlikely to ever be as high again – even if £45m feels a little on the low side.
And when Pep’s City juggernaut comes knocking, offering a hefty pay rise and asking you to swap fighting survival for battling it out for domestic and European titles, you don’t say no.
It may pain supporters to see Phillips swap Leeds and Yorkshire for Manchester and Lancashire.
But at least they can comfort themselves that, despite all the talk, he didn’t join despised rivals Man United.

Phillips’ Elland Road legacy is secure, so can he now create a new one at the Etihad?
Going from local hero to a small fish in a big pond is not easy – just ask Jack Grealish.
With top dog Rodri ahead of him in the pecking order for the one defensive-midfield role in Pep’s 4-3-3, Phillips is straight into the rank and file.
There are 16 Prem games before the World Cup, and Gareth Southgate will be watching closely.
Despite being named the Three Lions’ player of the year as England came so close to Euros glory, his inclusion is not a foregone conclusion.
Injury ruled Phillips out for four months towards the end of last season.
He returned to help Leeds survive on the last day before heading off on international duty, where he received plenty of flak after the embarrassing 4-0 mauling at home to Hungary.

England boss Gareth Southgate will be watching closely to see how Phillips adapts to life at CityCredit: PA
So the pressure is on to convince the England boss he is still the one to partner Declan Rice in midfield.
Exposure to the Champions League will only help Phillips’ cause.
Yet at the same time, warming the bench while the likes of Jude Bellingham, Conor Gallagher, Jordan Henderson and James Ward-Prowse shine could prove disastrous.
Phillips – signed following Fernandinho’s departure – showed during the Euros that he can operate higher up the pitch alongside Rice.
If Guardiola goes down that route, Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva – if he stays – and Ilkay Gundogan lie in wait.
That Phillips was moulded by Bielsa will have only increased his appeal to the City manager.
A protective shield who would sit in the quarter-back position and start attacks, nobody was more important as Leeds finally made it back to the big time before claiming a top-half Prem finish.
Guardiola is a huge admirer of Bielsa, so Phillips’ comfort playing in a possession-based, attacking side should mean City is not a massive culture shock.
But a World Cup is looming and Phillips faces an almighty battle to get enough minutes in the bank and secure his England role. More

“The BBC brand is synonymous with premium sport, and it will apply its extensive expertise in delivering wide-reaching Uefa Champions League coverage for fans in the market.”
Real Madrid are the current Champions League holders after beating Liverpool 1-0 in May’s final.

Under the new system the number of clubs taking part will be raised to 36 with each team playing eight matches in the group stages.
That means several more games available for broadcast, with 32 teams taking part in the group stages prior to the change.
The number of overall matches will increase from 125 games to 189.
Amazon have previously broadcast Champions League games in Germany but the latest step provides a financial boost to Premier League sides playing in Europe’s premier competition.
