What happens if Chelsea finish fifth and win Champions League and Arsenal win Europa League? Will West Ham miss out?

CHELSEA and Manchester city will meet in Istanbul on May 29 in the third all-English Champions League Final. And Arsenal could face Manchester United in the Europa League final, should both sides qualify from the final four.

CASINO SIGN UP OFFER: CLAIM UP TO £800 IN CASINO BONUS CASH
But what does it all mean for European qualification for next season? SunSport explains:
How many Champions League and Europa League places do the Premier League get?
England has seven places, with the top four in the Prem qualifying for the Champions League.
Fifth in the table and the FA Cup winners go into the Europa League. And from this season onwards, the Carabao Cup winners go into the new Europa Conference League.
But Manchester City won the Carabao Cup. So now what happens?
That means the team finishing sixth take the Conference League spot, with a place in the final play-off round at the end of August.
Hang on – but Leicester and Chelsea are also playing in the FA Cup Final. How does that impact things?
Assuming both of them finish in the top six – likely but not yet confirmed – it means sixth takes a Europa League place and SEVENTH in the table means the Conference League.
Right. I think. But could things change again?
Yes – but that depends on the outcomes of the two European competitions.
Under Uefa rules, the Champions League and Europa League winners automatically qualify for the Champions League.
But Uefa also caps at a maximum of five the number of teams from ANY country in the Champions League and a total of seven teams in all competitions.

    Go on…what are you saying?
Well, if Chelsea win the Champions League and finish fourth, nothing happens. But if they finish fifth, they would join the top four in next season’s competition.
Teams in sixth and seventh would then BOTH be in the Europa League.
What is the nightmare scenario for West Ham or Liverpool?
No. Because if Chelsea finish fifth and win the Champions League AND Arsenal were to win the Europa League, that would be SIX teams qualified, one more than is allowed.
    And…Arsenal miss out, yes?
No. Arsenal would be in the Champions League – but the team finishing FOURTH in the Prem would go into the Europa League, along with the team in fifth.
That would also allow England an extra place, with the team finishing sixth going into the new Conference League and no European place for the team in seventh.

    Why is it so complicated?
Chelsea finishing in the top four and Manchester United winning the Europa League would make it easier.
Then fifth and sixth are in the Europa and seventh in the Conference. More

But he made amends when arriving in the right place at the right time to head home Kai Havertz’s rebound at Stamford Bridge.
Isabelle praised Werner in a clip filmed for her 404,000 Instagram followers.
    She said: “Werner, very good.
“That’s what I’m talking about, you know [how to score] the goal.
“Woo! You are the best, love you!”

Thibaut Courtois produced a smart short-range save from the 25-year-old in the 1-1 draw.
And Isabelle told her followers afterwards: “This is karma, guys.
“Every team I go to there is a striker who keeps missing goals… this Werner, what is his name?”
The German’s 12th goal of the season put Chelsea ahead before Mason Mount scored late to seal a dominant performance against Madrid.

Manchester City await in the Istanbul final and Isabelle regularly posted clips as she watched the game unfold alongside her family.
The emotional rollercoaster was clear to see as they celebrated the opener before Chelsea began missing chances.
Isabelle tagged beau Thiago in one post that read: “You kill me.”
And the final whistle heralded more mad scenes in the Silva household as she chanted “Istanbul here we go” and captioned one post: “Glory to god, another battle won.”

When is the Champions League final, and where’s it being held?

The Champions League final will take place on Saturday, May 29.
The Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey – famously the location of Liverpool’s 3-3 comeback win over AC Milan in 2005 – will host the showpiece this season.
The kick-off time has yet to be decided, though it is expected to begin at 8pm BST.

Are Chelsea and Man City fans allowed to attend the Champions League final?

With the UK’s ban on non-essential international travel set to expire on May 17, Chelsea and Man City fans should be allowed to travel to Turkey for the match.
The Turkish government has allocated 4000 tickets each to Chelsea and Man City supporters.
In total, 25,000 fans are set to attend – down from the 38,00 which had been planned originally, with coronavirus cases in Turkey among the highest in Europe.
Because of this, Turkey is likely to be on the UK’s amber list when travel resumes.
This would see fans from the UK forced to quarantine for ten days on their return and take a pre-departure Covid test plus PCR tests on Day 2 and Day 8 after landing.
Despite this, UK fans would have no problems entering Turkey, with the Turkish government set to allow British travellers to enter without proof of vaccination or negative test from May 15.
There has not yet been any suggestion from the UK or Turkey that fans could avoid quarantine through a bubble arrangement.

The Ataturk Stadium plays host this year
    Can I get tickets?
UEFA have revealed in their latest update that details are to follow soon on how you can get tickets to the big one.
UEFA said: “The UEFA Champions League Final 2021 will take place in Istanbul, Turkey in the Ataturk Olympic Stadium on Saturday, 29 May 2021.
“Information about the ticket sales for this match (availability of tickets, application deadline, ticket prices, etc.) should be communicated around end of April 2021.
“More details will follow in due course.”

And BT Sport pundit Ferdinand, 42, purred about the attacking midfielder after the match – comparing him to one of his most skilful former team-mates.
He said: “He reminds me of Berbatov, a player I played with at Manchester United.
“He’s got that little lazy swagger at times, and you feel like he’s got a bit of a nonchalance about him.
“But the guy’s just so smooth man. Joe [Cole] made a good point before the game, the game just doesn’t quicken up around him at all.
“The game slows down to his pace, and he gets things done really, rellay elegantly.
“His touch is always exquisite and I think he’s going to grow into a really important player that really does showcase his talents in a way that not many others can.”
Cole, 39, then added: “He’s very classy.
“He’s going to score a hatful of goals because of that reason, and [Thomas] Tuchel alluded to that before the game.

“He’s got physicality, he’s going to score headers, he’s going to score from set-pieces.

Havertz, 21, signed for Chelsea for £70million from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

    GOODBYE
It’s the end of another glorious night at Stamford Bridge.
Having led his team to one final – the FA Cup – Thomas Tuchel now has Chelsea preparing for another, and it’s the biggest of the lot: the Champions League. He’s only been in the job 99 days.
The Blues will now face Manchester City in Istanbul on May 29 as the Premier League takes over Turkey.
If you’re too excited to sleep at the prospect, why not take in Dave Kidd’s match report for more on how Chelsea dismantled Real Madrid over two legs.
    Thanks for reading, and goodnight.
    AN ENGLISH AFFAIR
So, it will be Premier League against Premier League on May 29 when Manchester City and Chelsea meet in the final of the Champions League.
It will be the third all-English Champions League final following Manchester United’s victory over Chelsea in 2008, and Liverpool’s success against Totttenham two years ago.
There have been five all-English European finals across the European Cup/#UCL and UEFA Cup/#UEL since both tournaments began.Chelsea are responsible for 60% of them. 👀 pic.twitter.com/ITyU1nedBv— Jahin (@jahin14) May 5, 2021

    HAZARD HAVING A LAUGH
There were several glum faces in the Real Madrid ranks at the final whistle, but Eden Hazard wasn’t among them.
Instead, the former Chelsea man was caught on camera laughing and messing around with Kurt Zouma.
Blues fans will love the foottage, but it’s unlikely to endear him to the Madrid faithful who are yet. to see his best form.

    THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
Relive the moment in stoppage time when Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi – three youngsters who came through the Chelsea academy together – realised they were off to the Champions League final.

    ONE OF THEIR OWN
Mason Mount capped a sensational season by netting the goal that sealed Chelsea’s place in the Champions League final.
Having made his 100th appearance for the senior side in the first leg, it’s been some story for a young man who has been at Stamford Bridge for 15 years.
Just don’t mention that he’s a boyhood Portsmouth fan.

    TUCHEL REACTION
Thomas Tuchel was quick to praise his players for their performance at full time, believing that they showed both sides to their game in soaking up Real Madrid pressure early on before threatening goals on the break.
We deserved to win. The first half was difficult because they had a lot of ball possession and made us suffer. But every play from us was dangerous on the counter-attack, and we never lost the hunger or desire to defend. In the second half, there was an ever better structure and we could have scored so much more. Now is not a time for criticism though so congratulations to the team.Thomas TuchelBT Sport

    ED OF THE PACK
Edouard Mendy had little to do in the second half at Stamford Bridge, but certainly played his role in the first period with two fabulous saves to deny Karim Benzema.
The Senegalese goalkeeper has now kept more clean sheets in a Champions League campaign than any other stopper from an English club.
8 – Édouard Mendy has kept eight clean sheets in 11 UEFA Champions League matches this season, the most in a single campaign by a goalkeeper for an English side in the competition’s history. Wall. #CHERMA pic.twitter.com/0v8dhXONP5— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) May 5, 2021

    SINGING THE BLUES
The final whistle sparked celebrations among the Chelsea players on the pitch, and the partying has continued into the dressing room.

    TWO-TIME TUCHEL
Having reached the Champions League final with Paris Saint-Germain last season, Thomas Tuchel will be back at the competition’s showpiece this year in charge of Chelsea.
He’ll be hoping for a different conclusion this time around.

    MOUNT JOY
Mason Mount sealed Chelsea’s place in the Champions League Final with his late goal, and has just given his immediate reaction to the news at the the full time whistle.
I can’t put it into words at the moment. It was a great performance because it was tough game. We should have probably had about five – I should have got one 20 minutes before I scored – but the most important thing is we won. However, it’s not over yet – there’s still one game left.Mason MountBT Sport

FT: CHELSEA 2-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 3-1)
It will be an all-English Champions League final on May 29! Chelsea made hard work of it in front of goal, but tonight’s 2-0 victory flatters Real Madrid. The Londoners dominated their La Liga opponents over two legs, and were worth their win here sealed by goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!THE FINAL WHISTLE GOES!CHELSEA ARE GOING TO ISTANBUL!
CHELSEA 2-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 3-1)
90+2. In the stands, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi are celebrating already.
There is nothing but pure joy on the faces of these young Chelsea players.
CHELSEA 2-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 3-1)
    90. Four minutes of stoppage time remaining and Real Madrid need two goals.
They’re not going to get them. They’ve not even come close to one in this second half.
CHELSEA 2-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 3-1)
    87. With adrenalin pumping through his body, Mount launches into Militao and adds a yellow card to his goal.
It’s going to be his last act, however, with Hakim Ziyech coming on in his place. Also off is Azpilicueta, replaced by Reece James.
CHELSEA 2-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 3-1)
    85. Finally! With five minutes remaining, Mason Mount fires Chelsea to the Champions League final!
N’Golo Kante is too much for the tired legs of Real Madrid, and once again wins back possession in the Spaniards’ half before quickly playing in a teammate.
It looks as though Christian Pulisic has wasted another opportunity, but the American recovers and then shows great composure in skipping away from Thibaut Courtois, biding his time, and picking out Mount in the middle.
Catching Eder Militao unawares, the England international darts in front of his marker to steer the ball into the top corner. Cue the celebrations in West London!

    GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!MASON MOUNT SEALS THE SEMI-FINAL!!
CHELSEA 1-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 2-1)
    83. It only takes one moment, of course, to change the whole complexion of this tie, and it may have nearly arrived there had it not been for Rudiger.
The Chelsea defender dominates in the air as Nacho swings over a delightful cross in the direction of Rodrygo at the far post.

CHELSEA 1-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 2-1)
    81. Havertz drags a half-chance wide, but it hardly seems worth mentioning given the other opportunities they’ve missed.
CHELSEA 1-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 2-1)
    80. It’s been noticeable in the past couple of minutes that Modric is taking a breather whenever his team are in possession.
Bent over, hands on his knees, the 35-year-old is shattered.
Are Real Madrid’s Champions League dreams about to go the same way?
CHELSEA 1-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 2-1)
    77. Chelsea’s profligacy strikes again.
Pulisic gets in behind with pace and skill, and then fires over a low cross that Havertz is just unable to reach on the stretch.
It’s no exaggeration to suggest that the Londoners could have had five this evening.
CHELSEA 1-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 2-1)
    76. Zinedine Zidane rolls the dice, and lands a 25.
That’s the number of Rodrygo, an attacking player, who is on for Real’s defensive midfielder Casemiro.
CHELSEA 1-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 2-1)
    73. Thiago Silva meets a Chelsea corner on the right with a glancing header, and… well, you know the rest.
    Missed.
CHELSEA 1-0 REAL MADRID (AGG 2-1)
    72. If you ever want to learn the definition of ‘scythed’, look up this challenge by Kroos on Pulisic.
It brings a yellow card for the German midfielder, the fifth caution of the night.

Timo Werner scored the first at Stamford Bridge but the West Londoners had a stack of chances on the night and should really have made it more comfortable.
Kai Havertz hit the bar, Mount himself blasted over when through on goal and Christian Pulisic dragged one wide.
And Mount – who has been at Chelsea since he was six – said the Blues should have converted more of their chances.
He told BT Sport after the game: “I can’t put into words. Great performance tonight. It was a tough, tough game. They’re going to come and give it everything but we worked hard.
“We should’ve probably had about five. But the most important thing is we won tonight. We want to go into every game winning it.
“It was 1-0 but that really didn’t matter because if they score, they were back in the game. To get that one late on, you can see by the celebrations, it was a massive goal for us and gave us breathing space in the last five minutes.
“We gave everything and we had that desire to win first half. We had a couple of opportunities where we won the ball and should’ve scored but we got the one late on and it’s great.
“We haven’t won nothing yet. Hopefully we’ve got two massive cup finals and hopefully we can win.”

“He’s been at Chelsea since he was a kid.
“He’s seen this club win trophies and lose trophies and he would have sat in these stands.
“So for him to have been the player to put the finishing touches on what was a top drawer performance…
“For Mason to do that, that shows me that the romance is still in football.”
Chelsea will face Manchester City in the final after Pep Guardiola’s side beat Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 on aggregate in their semi.

Timo Werner reaping rewards of Thomas Tuchel link-up to take another step on road to becoming a Chelsea hero

EVEN TIMO WERNER could not miss that one.And from barely a yard out, the erratic German who has endured the most testing of introductions to English football, took another step along the road to becoming a cult hero at Chelsea.

Boss Thomas Tuchel has been rewarded for his patience with striker Timo WernerCredit: AP
Luckily for Werner, it is impossible to be offside when the ball comes crashing back off the crossbar and finds you unmarked, with a gaping goal stretching wide before you like a panoramic view of the Grand Canyon.
Bread and butter for almost any striker from pub level up but then Werner is no ordinary striker.
By the time he nodded Chelsea ahead against Real Madrid on 28 minutes he had already been caught offside once which cost him a goal.
It was a similar situation ten days ago, when he got the wrong side of West Ham’s defence just at the wrong time and it cost his team an early lead before they ultimately went onto win.
Just last week, he missed a sitter from two yards by punting the ball straight at Thibaut Courtois when clean through on goal.
Rewind to Fulham away back in January and after coming off the bench, Werner was one-on-one with the keeper but sliced his shot like a duffer on the golf course.
He has looked nervous, shot of confidence and too eager at times to impose himself on the Premier League following his £47million move from Red Bull Leipzig.
Werner has been falling over his own feet at times this season, yet somehow he is bumbling his way into the grain at Stamford Bridge.
The nippy forward who could run county level times for the 100 metres dash at 15 years old, has been in too much of a hurry to become a key component of a new era at Chelsea.
Like a teenager growing too fast, Werner has been falling over his own feet at times this season, yet somehow he is bumbling his way into the grain at Stamford Bridge and repaying the admirable patience of his boss Thomas Tuchel for sticking with him for so long.
Quite how, it is entirely possible that nobody on earth knows because even after his fourth Champions League goal of the season put Chelsea well in command, Werner still raises more questions than he answers.
Last Saturday at home to Fulham, Werner was on occasion a hindrance to his fellow forwards. Off the pace and too hasty when all he needed to do was put his foot on the ball for a second or two.
He did that with a cushioned pass that set up his German team-mate Kai Havertz for the second goal in the second half which secured three Premier League points last weekend.
Tuchel has been determined to keep faith with ‘Turbo’ when most people taking a view from distance have been crying out for him to be as ruthless with his unpredictable forward as he has been with other players.
Chelsea lead! 🙌A beautiful one-two in the build-up, before Havertz goes so close to scoring a delicious chip… But Timo Werner is on hand to score the rebound from close range! pic.twitter.com/MWGVcseVul— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) May 5, 2021

Tammy Abraham’s continued absence from the squad has prompted intense speculation and understandable questions, because he has been the club’s leading scorer for nearly three months on 12 goals yet has been in deep freeze as far as first team football goes.
Werner’s goal was handed on a plate to him last night but saw him finally draw level with the England striker on a round dozen.
Abraham, a Chelsea academy graduate, cost nothing compared to the near £50m splashed on Werner by Tuchel’s predecessor Frank Lampard last summer.
For somebody who prides himself on being so speedy, it has been a painfully long time waiting for Werner to come good. Particularly when he proclaimed so confidently upon arrival last summer that it would take two or three games maximum to get up to speed with our game.
Tuchel has been proved right again by refusing to give into his instincts and drop Werner to try yet another formula up front for Chelsea, the area which has been the club’s only weak area since he took over in January.
Each time he has been asked about Werner, patient Tuchel has insisted the best thing to do has been nothing.
FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN SIGN UP OFFERS HERE

He even ordered Werner in from extra training some weeks back because he believed the best way forward was to chill out instead of overcooking his failing striker.
Tuchel’s measured approach taking things slowly must have been alien to Werner because he broke so many records as a youngster in Germany to earn his nickname ‘Turbo Timo’.
But the manager who has transformed Chelsea in just three months since taking over has shown that despite a reputation for being abrasive and volatile with his superiors, he is actually a superb man-manager.
