Scott Carson’s only previous Champions League appearance came almost 17 years ago for Liverpool against Juventus.

    Pep Guardiola reacts
“I am very pleased because in both games we deserved to be in the Champions League quarter-finals.
“CJ Egan-Riley played really good and didn’t miss one ball. He is a seven.
“He is nothing exceptional in anything but that is a good sign as a defender as he doesn’t make mistakes.
“Scott Carson could play and we gave 45 minutes to the other guys.”
“It’s a good sign. The people didn’t care what we were and now step-by-step the club grew and now for many years we are there in these competitions.
“Now we are again in the quarter-finals as the best eight teams in Europe. I learn to enjoy the moments.
“I celebrate it because I know how difficult it is. When you go through every opponent it’s difficult.
“Now it’s time to congratulate everyone, focus on the Premier League then next week we will see the draw.”

    Fernandinho reacts

“It’s important to keep playing good especially after we played against Manchester United.
“Everyone wants to keep going in that direction. We played the same way we always play.
“The second half we scored but it was offside and they had more chances. But that’s football, sometimes you don’t get lucky.”
[On Man City’s academy graduates] “It just shows the great work Manchester City have been doing with the academy.
“They have been training with us and know the way to play. They felt really comfortable playing with us.
“I’m really happy for them tonight. I hope they can play more often for Manchester City.”

Whilst they failed to create any meaningful chances in the first half, they completely turned things around in the latter stages and began to dominate in the final 20 minutes.
Marcus Edwards was a fantastic addition in the second half, and added a new level of intensity to the side which opened up more goalscoring opportunities.

Kylian Mbappe put PSG 2-0 up in the tie in the first half and looked set for the quarter-finals before Benzema stepped up and scored three times to send Pochettino’s side out of the competition.

RESULT: Real Madrid 3-1 PSG (3-2 on aggregate)
Real Madrid XI: Courtois, Carvajal, Militao, Aalaba, Nacho, Kroos, Benzema, Modric, Asensio, Valverde, Vinicius Jr

    Form is temporary, class permanent
Karim Benzema has now scored 212 goals in 407 appearances.
In his thirteenth year as a Madrid player, still showing the ability to win a game single-handedly at 34 years of age.
Underrated, overlooked, ignore him at your own peril.

    Crown of thorns
Whoever takes the position of manager at PSG, they don a crown of thorns and drink from a poisoned chalice daily.
Due to the money spent by the club, success is demanded.
Pochettino may win all the domestic honours but that is considered not good enough from their owners.
    French surrender dominance
Until the Donnarumma error that led to the first Madrid goal, there looked absolutely no danger of Pochettino’s team not progressing to the quarter finals.
That one mistake seemed to cause the French giants to buckle.
Marquinhos sealed their fate with two errors gifting Benzema a chance to put his name up in lights once again.
    Karim of the crop
All the talk before this game was of Kylian Mbappe and how he was the future of Real Madrid and would be arriving in the summer.
It seems Madrid already had a French striker who is not willing to give up his place so easily.
Benzema has now scored 30 goals already so far this season for Los Blancos.
    Kamikaze French display
PSG collapsed in the second-half like a house of cards.
Although the manager will no doubt pay the price with his job as is always the case in these situations, these players need to have a long, hard look at themselves.
They are left wanting time and time again on the big stage.

    FT: Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
The referee brings the game to a close.
This was a tale of two Frenchman.
Karim Benzema came out on top.
    Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
90+3. There doesn’t seem any time left for PSG to change this scoreline.
Soon to be Man Utd manager favourite Mauricio Pochettino stands on the touchline looking stunned or maybe he is wondering how much stuff he has to clear from his desk.
    Unbelievable collapse.
    Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
90+1. Am pretty sure the referee just awarded Vinicius Junior a foul for standing on the football.
Nothing is going to surprise me tonight.
PSG will not be able to work this one out tonight.
    Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
    90. We will have four minutes of added time.
A couple of professional fouls by Madrid in the last few minutes.
By that I mean clipping players ankles who are though on goal.
Messi stands over the free kick and bends it just over the top of the bar.
    Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
    88. Mbappe runs towards the Madrid goal before his heels are clipped and he goes to ground.
The referee awards the French a free kick but the delivery is poor and Real Madrid counter-attack.
Brilliant run by Vazquez to the byline, the ball comes out to Modric who looks for the top corner.
    Inches wide.
    Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
    86. The clock ticks down, PSG’s plight becomes more desperate.
Mbappe looks stunned whenever the camera pans onto him.
He must be contemplating joining a side who can defend.

    Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
    84. This is all Real Madrid at the moment.
The need for a PSG goal is leaving more holes and space for the home side.
Rodrygo is brought down just outside the box in centre of the goal.
    Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
    82. Madrid are just drawing fouls from PSG and running the clock down.
The more possession they get, the more it frustrates the French side.
Vinicius Junior breaks away down the left again.
    Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
    80. We are into the final ten minutes of the game.
This has been turned on its head this game.
Hakimi gets a yellow card for a late challenge.
PSG are on the rocks now, much like Pochettino’s job.
    Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
    77. What is Marquinhos doing?
The Brazilian defender has turned into Mr Bean in the space of ten minutes.
He gifts the ball into the path of Benzema who strikes the ball first time into the back of the net.
    Santiago Bernabeu erupts!

Goal – Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
    Real Madrid 2-1 PSG
    76. Modric slides a pass through the legs of Marquinhos.
Benzema controls it with one touch and then hits it.
    Great goal.
Goal – Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
    Real Madrid 1-1 PSG
    75. Madrid and PSG seem to be well equipped with self-destruct buttons.
Either side are able to look completely in control of a game before imploding is some bizarre fashion.
Anything could happen in these final 15 minutes.
Real Madrid 1-1 PSG – Vinicius Junior chance!
    73. What a chance for the Madrid man.
Some terrible defending by PSG results in the deflection into the path of the offside Vinicius Junoir.
As the ball has come to him from a PSG defender the rule does not apply.
How he puts the ball over the bar from yards out will haunt his dreams this evening.
    Real Madrid 1-1 PSG
    71. For the sentimental football fans, this brings back some memories.
Neymar slowly taking a corner as the home fans jeer.
PSG are looking to kill the game off with ‘keep-ball’.
    Real Madrid 1-1 PSG
    69. The Madrid fans whistle and boo as PSG retain possession.
They edge towards Courtois’ goal as Neymar draws the foul from Militao.
Quick feet from the Brazlian drawing the challenge.
    Real Madrid 1-1 PSG
    67. There are a few players now on yellow cards that need to be careful.
PSG were so comfortable until Donnarumma lost the plot.
Was a definite moment to put the ball in row Z then.

    Real Madrid 1-1 PSG
    65. Corner to Real Madrid is swung in by Modric but it is too close to the PSG keeper who punches clear.
Militao heads the ball back to Vinicius Junior who spins to get a shot away that is saved by Donnarumma.
The whistle goes as Militao had fouled his man.
Real Madrid 1-1 PSG – Benzema chance!
    63. The ball is crossed in and Benzema beats Marquinhos in the air.
He heads the ball down heading Donnarumma scrambling for his far post.
    The header goes inches wide.

    Neymar to break tradition
PSG superstar Neymar is set break tradition and play during his sister Rafaella Santos’ birthday celebrations.
Tonight’s second leg falls just two days before his sister’s’ March 11 birthday.
And if he avoids injury in Madrid he will be fit enough to play Sunday’s league fixture against Bordeaux.
Coincidentally, Neymar almost always appears to pick up a knock just before his sister celebrates her big day.
The birthday ‘curse’ started during the Brazilian superstar’s playing days at Barcelona in 2015.
He was suspended after picking up too many yellow cards and Barca allowed him to attend her birthday bash.
And history repeated itself the following year, with Neymar picking up another suspension allowing him to celebrate at her Disney-themed party.
In 2017, a muscle injury ruled him out of a game against Deportivo, which was scheduled to take place the day after Santos’ birthday.

    What are the odds
    Real Madrid to qualify 21/10
    Draw (after 90 min) 10/27
    PSG to qualify 4/11
*Odds courtesy of Betfair are correct at time of publication

Real Madrid vs PSG team news
Los Blancos will be without Ferland Mendy and Casemiro who are both serving suspensions as a result of accumulating too many bookings in the earlier rounds.
Marcelo is reportedly another absentee having picked up a knock in the 4-1 win over Real Sociedad on the weekend.
However, experienced midfielder Toni Kroos and his protégé Federico Valverde could be in contention to start despite both missing the last outing.
PSG defender, Sergio Ramos was pushing for a return to action against the side who he won 22 trophies with.
But the Spaniard’s persistent calf injury which has kept him out for most of the season, has ruled him out again.
And former Manchester United star Ander Herrera is also likely to miss the trip having sustained an eye infection.
On the flipside, Kylian Mbappe has come through an ankle scared he suffered in training and Achraf Hakimi has made the travelling squad despite rumours suggesting the Moroccan would be unavailable.

The 29-year-old missed a fixture within a week of Rafaella’s day of celebration for the SEVENTH time in the last eight seasons.
But Neymar is expected to break ‘the curse of his sister’s birthday’ this campaign when Paris Saint-Germain travel to Real Madrid TONIGHT.
How many games has Neymar missed on his sister’s birthday?
Below is Neymar’s timeline since ‘the curse’ arrived:

2013/14 – Neymar was an unused substitute for Barcelona on March 16 during his year at Barcelona.
2014/15 – Picked up a yellow card which led to a suspension on March 8.
2015/16 – Ruled out with a suspension returning on March 12.
2016/17 – Unavailable for a match on March 12 due to a muscular injury.
2017/18 – Neymar missed the remainder of the season from February having suffered a metatarsal fracture.
2018/19 – The Brazilian star was ruled out again for the same issue as the previous year but only the whole of February and March this time.
2019/20 – Surprisingly played and scored on March 11 in a 2-0 win over Dortmund in a Champions League tie.
2020/21 – Missed a Ligue 1 fixture on March 13 with having sustained a muscular injury in the game prior.

What date is Neymar’s sister Rafaella’s birthday?
Rafaella’s special day falls on March 11.
    Is Neymar currently injured?
There has been no reports of the Brazilian mogul being injured which could see Neymar break tradition and play during his younger sister’s birthday.
PSG have the second leg of their round 16 clash with Real Madrid TONIGHT and it falls a couple days short of Rafaella’s day of celebration.
And despite the French giants being in pole position to qualify, Mauricio Pochettino will need to utilise all of his attacking superstars for a place in the last eight.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently have a one goal advantage after defeating the Whites in a 1-0 victory last month.
Mbappe scored the winning goal in the final seconds of the game with fantastic skill.
The 23-year-old – understood to be a summer transfer target for Real – has been pictured preparing for the upcoming match in what many have described as ‘his future home’.
The PSG squad trained on the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, and Mbappe appeared to be in awe of his surroundings.

Bayern Munich vs Salzburg LIVE REACTION: Lewandowski scores stunning 10 MINUTE hat-trick as Bayern run wild – latest

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI scored a record-breaking 10-MINUTE hat-trick as Bayern Munich destroyed Salzburg 7-1 in their Last 16 second leg tie.The Poland superstar’s treble was the fastest in Champions League history.
The tie was delicately poised at 1-1 from the first leg, but it was nothing short of one-way traffic in the second leg.

Result: Bayern Munich 7-1 Salzburg (8-2 on agg)
TV channel/ live stream: BT Sport 3
Bayern XI: Neuer, Pavard, Sule, Hernandez, Gnabry, Kimmich, Musiala, Coman, Muller, Sane, Lewandowski
Salzburg XI: Kohn, Kristensen, Solet, Wober, Ulmer, Camara, Capaldo, Aaronson, Seiwald, Adamu, Adeyemi

    Bayern look to quarters
Bayern Munich will be able to sit back and relax as they wait to see who they will face in the quarter finals.
With some of the final places still to be decided Nagelsmann can turn his attentions back to the Bundesliga.
The next stage of the UEFA Champions League may pose more of a challenge for his side.
    Plenty to work on
Julian Nagelsmann will realise there is much he can take from this win.
They dominated possession with 72% over the course of the game and will feel they turned that into goals with the scoreline.
To concede when in such a dominant position will worry him and be something he looks to address immediately.
    Contract killer
The man, the myth, the legend.
    Robert Lewandowski take a bow.
The Bayern striker was on fire tonight, linking up play and finding pockets of space to operate in.
When he is on this kind of form it is difficult for anyone to stop him.

    The magnificent seven
Bayern although expected to progress here tonight have absolutely smashed Julian Nagelsmann’s Salzburg.
Mistakes by the visitors gifted the hosts their lead and things only got worse from that point for the Austrians.
An easy day at the office for Bayern.
    FT: Bayern 7-1 Salzburg
The referee puts Salzburg out of their misery.
He blows for full time without playing out the additional time.
Robert Lewandowski has another match ball to add to the collection.
    Bayern 7-1 Salzburg
    89. The scoreline will take some of the shine of their performance to get to this stage of the competition.
Salzburg knew there was a huge gulf in class but sadly it showed.
    Bayern have been relentless.
Bayern 7-1 Salzburg – Sesko chance!
    87. Salzburg decide the best way to defend against this Bayern onslaught is to attack.
The ball is played to Sesko on the edge of the box.
He manages to find himself a yard of space and shoots towards goal.
Always on the rise as it passes the corner of the goal.
    Bayern 7-1 Salzburg
    85. The ball is played into Lewandowski in the box.
His awareness of the people around him is sublime as he backheels the ball into space.
Sane runs onto it and slams the ball passed the keeper and into the net.
    Goal – Leroy Sane (Bayern)
    Bayern 6-1 Salzburg
    83. The ball comes to Sane with a chance to drop his shoulder and get a shot away.
Instead he clips a ball across the box which Muller runs on to.
He hits it with his left-foot into the bottom corner.

    Goal – Thomas Muller (Bayern)
    Bayern 5-1 Salzburg
    81. Salzburg are looking to retain possession as much as they can.
The problem is when they then look to attack Bayern.
As they cannot pass their way through them they go long and if the ball isn’t accurate, Bayern deal with the threat with ease.
    Bayern 5-1 Salzburg
    79. The state of the game is summed up by the silence in the ground now as the teams pass the ball around.
If anyone knows the German for ‘is this a library’ feel free to begin.
Salzburg come forward but are unable to break the Bayern lines.
    Bayern 5-1 Salzburg
    77. Aside from the defeat tonight, since Salzburg have brought some of their younger players on, they have impressed.
The club which nurtured Haaland seem to have some gems on the production line.
This can be something they learn from tonight.
    Bayern 5-1 Salzburg
    75. Beating Salzburg won’t striker fear into the big teams in this competition but the way Lewandowski got his hat-trick will raise a few ears.
There will be tougher tests than this but the win here at the Allianz Arena will be good for squad morale.
    Bayern press for another goal.
    Bayern 5-1 Salzburg
    73. The goal has given the visitors a bit of fuel in the tank.
They seem keen to try and score more before the final whistle.
Bayern will have to stay alert until the end.

    Bayern 5-1 Salzburg
    70. A mere consolation for Salzburg no doubt but what a strike.
The young attacker cuts across the ball as he shoots, leaving Neuer with no chance of getting to it.
Great moment for the young player.
    Goal – Maurits Kjaergaard (Salzburg)
    Bayern 5-0 Salzburg
    69. It seems like damage limitation may be the tactic for Salzburg now.
They conceded six goals the last time they were in Munich.
    Bayern 5-0 Salzburg
    67. Bayern make the changes and rest a few players.
Nianzou, Roca and Choupo-Moting all come on.
    Possession football right now.
    Bayern 5-0 Salzburg
    64. Lewandowski unselfishly looks for Muller instead of going for goal.
The ball is blocked for a Bayern corner.
Sadly Thomas Muller is good in the air or it would be fantastic to see him as the regular set-piece specialist.
    Time for a Muller corner.
    Bayern 5-0 Salzburg
    62. The Austrians have a rare break into German territory.
They get the ball into the box and calls for a penalty as the Bayern defender bundles into the back of the Salzburg player.
    Referee is not interested.
    Bayern 5-0 Salzburg
    60. Sane dummies the effort to leave it to Lewandowski.
That effort will not be in his highlights reel from this game.
Salzburg are looking to bring some fresh legs on.

    Bayern 5-0 Salzburg
    59. Camara fouls Coman as he weaves in and out of Salzburg players on his way towards the box.
Some lazy tackles went in on the Bayern winger.
    Lewandowski fancies this one.
    Bayern 5-0 Salzburg
    57. It will be hard for Salzburg to not crumble in the final 30 minutes.
The danger is the match turns into a training game.
Bayern press again and win another corner.

Inter XI: Handanovic, Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni, Dumfries, Vidal, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Perisic, Alexis, Lautaro

    That’s all from Anfield
Despite losing this evening’s game, Liverpool progress to the Champions League Quarter-Finals.
Inter Milan played well over the two legs, but in the end they were no match for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Thank you for reading, and goodnight!
    Jurgen Klopp reacts
When speaking to BT Sport, Klopp said:
“The difficulties we had were pretty close to what I expected to be honest. First we have to be complimentary for a really good side, made for these kind of games, set up for these kind of games.
“Without playing brilliant we had a lot of clear cut chances and didn’t use them. They didn’t have many but they scored a goal and I think over the two legs it’s completely fair that we won one and they won one and we are through. I think that’s a fair assumption.
“I think we could’ve done better against an opponent that makes things really uncomfortable. It was a really interesting game, it was open. A lot of things could have happened but didn’t happen.
“We lost the game which wasn’t cool. We didn’t come here tonight to lose a home game, but again, respect to the opponent, really strong, they caused us a lot of problems. But if we had used our chances from set pieces and stuff like that which are really big, then we win this game even when Inter are strong.
“We are through and that is the main thing.”

    Mohamed Salah reacts
When speaking to BT Sport, Salah said:
“I think it was a tough team, even in the away game they were very good.”
“The most important thing was that we qualified so hopefully in the next game we are going to be better.”
“I hit the post twice but it’s okay, maybe in the next game I can score three! I don’t mind as long as the team qualify, for sure that’s the most important thing.”
“Maybe we need to start from the beginning, winning games. So, we lost a game, maybe that gives us a bit of a push more that in the back of our minds that, okay, maybe we’re overconfident at the moment. But, I think it’s a good game to take it and to learn from it and carry on.”
“It’s always important to win a game, but sometimes, like tonight, we hit the post twice. But, that can happen in football, the good thing is that that’s not in the league and also we’ve qualified.”

Full Time – Liverpool 0-1 Inter Milan (2-1)
Inter Milan had great spells throughout the game and could have turned things around after Martinez’s goal.
But, Sanchez’s red card quickly stopped the Black and Blues in their tracks and prevented them from pushing for a second.
But, Simone Inzaghi will take some positives from the result.
Inter have been one of the few teams that have been able to beat Liverpool at Anfield.
Vidal had a stand-out performance in midfield, and was arguably the best player on the pitch this evening.
