Claesson praising ‘killer in the box’ Haaland and ‘best team in the world’ Manchester City
Copenhagen captain Viktor Claesson labelled Manchester City the best side he has faced ‘by far’.
The midfielder believes Erling Haaland may be the missing piece for Guardiola and could lead them to Champions League glory this season.
For me they are the favourites. They have been for the last couple of years but haven’t succeeded in the final part. But it is the best team I have met by far. Now they have a real striker as well. Before they had good players, with the touches, no mistakes, simple play but now they also have the killer in the box.Viktor Claesson, FC Copenhagen midfielder
    Last time out
Manchester City were too good when these two met last week, smashing five past FC Copenhagen.
Haaland opened the scoring inside 7 minutes before doubling his side’s advantage on the half hour mark. He was inches away from a hat-trick but central defender Khocholava did the job for him, diverting the ball away from the Norwegian’s path and into his own net.
Mahrez then made it three from the penalty spot before Alvarez swept the ball home in to get his fourth goal in a City shirt.
The pair also met in a two-legged fixture in the Europa League in 2009. Manchester City won 4-3 over the two legs with Craig Bellamy getting the winner to send them through. Nedum Onuah and Stephen Ireland were also amongst the goals.
The Cityzens went on to reach the quarter finals that year where they fell short to Hamburger SV.

    Haaland benched
Pep Guardiola has chosen to bench Erling Haaland for the first time this season.
The Norwegian sits top of the scoring charts in the Champions League and may see this as a missed opportunity for more goals after an explosive start to life in Manchester.
It is thought that the Spanish coach is keen to keep his talisman fresh for an important game against Liverpool on the weekend.
In his absence, Julian Alvarez will have the chance to prove himself to the fans as he occupies the number nine position this evening.

Jacob Neestrup rings the changes for this evening’s encounter, making four changes to the side that lost to City.
Jensen, Boilesen, Jelert and Haraldsson all come in. Diks, Vavro, Johannesson and Karamoko make way.
It looks as though they will play with a back three too, which will no doubt shift to more of a back five.

Alvarez starts as Haaland is rested for City
Pep Guardiola makes three changes to the side that beat FC Copenhagen last week.
Akanji, De Bruyne and Rodri all start for the visitors. Dias, Silva and Haaland drop to the bench.
Ederson, Cancelo, Akanji, Laporte, Gomez, Rodri, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Mahrez, Grealish, Alvarez

    Good evening from Copenhagen
Hello SunSport family! Thank you for joining us for this match-blog as we welcome back Champions League nights and Manchester City, who travel to Denmark for the second leg of their group stage match against FC Copenhegen.
Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot at the Etihad last week, scoring 5 goals and continuing their perfect start in the competition. Champions League top scorer Erling Haaland was at the double that day, before being withdrawn at half-time to preserve his fitness. Alvarez, an own goal and a Mahrez penalty completed the onslaught.
Meanwhile, FC Copenhagen have managed just one point from their three European games so far. Their domestic form hasn’t been too hot either, leaving them in seventh after 12 games. Whilst a place in the knockout stage looks out of reach, the Danish Champions will be hoping to pip Sevilla to third place in Group G and secure a place in the Europa League.
Whilst Jacob Neestrup’s men will have the home advantage, it is difficult to see the hosts getting out alive against a City team that have scored a whopping 24 goals across their last six matches.
We will bring you team news shortly as we build-up to this evening’s early 17:45 kick-off in the Danish capital.

Champions League Supercomputer predicts outcome of group stages with just one Premier League team set NOT to top theirs

ALL four English teams have a battle on their hands to win their respective Champions League groups. Our supercomputer boffins have been hard at work calculating what will happen as Europe’s premier competition reaches Matchday Four this week.

The brainiacs over at OLBG have run the numbers and they think that just one of the four Premier League teams won’t win their group – despite only Manchester City being top of theirs after three games.
Pep Guardiola’s side have won all three of their matches thus far – conceding just one goal in the process.
A 4-0 win in Seville, followed up by 2-1 and 5-0 home wins over Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen respectively have put City in a commanding position.
And the supercomputer has them at an equally commanding 1/50 to win Group G ahead of tonight’s clash in Copenhagen.

For Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool, meanwhile, things may be a little less serene.
The Blues got their campaign off to a ropy start, with the 1-0 defeat in Zagreb seeing off former boss Thomas Tuchel.
Graham Potter’s men drew 1-1 with RB Salzburg at Stamford Bridge in his first game in charge, before they got back on track last week with a 3-0 win over AC Milan.
Despite two of their remaining three games being away from home, and currently sitting second in the group, Chelsea find themselves at 4/5 to come through top of the pile ahead of tonight’s meeting in Milan.

Spurs beat Marseille 2-0 in North London on Matchday One before falling to a disastrous late 2-0 defeat against Sporting in Lisbon.
Last week they drew 0-0 in Frankfurt to leave Group D in the balance.
Sporting sit top on six points, with Spurs second on four. Eintracht also have four, with Marseille bottom on three but very much still in the mix.
Despite the tightness of the group Tottenham are still 1/1 to make it through in top spot going into tomorrow night’s home match with Eintracht.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are predicted to come second in Group A.
The Reds sit tenth in the Premier League after a disastrous start to the season that has seen them win just two of their opening eight games.
Their European campaign also started in horrendous fashion as they were battered 4-1 by Napoli in Italy.
They’ve managed to get back on track since, picking up 2-1 and 2-0 home wins against Ajax and Rangers respectively.

But the supercomputer reckons the Reds will be beaten to top spot by Napoli – with the Serie A side 2/5 to win the group compared to Liverpool’s 15/8.

Celtic, Rangers and Hearts all hammered by Uefa fines – with Hoops’ anti-monarchy banners deemed ‘unfit for sport event’

CELTIC, Rangers and Hearts have all been hammered with fines from Uefa in the wake of recent European matches. The Hoops were fined £13,169 for the anti-monarchy banners their fans displayed at their away match against Shakhtar Donetsk last month, with Uefa deeming the message “not fit for a sports event”.
Uefa acted after the bannersCredit: Kenny Ramsay
Uefa’s control, ethics and disciplinary body took action over what was described as “a message not fit for a sporting event (ie a provocative banner)”.
One simply read: “f*** the crown” while the other read: “Sorry for your loss Michael Fagan.”
The second was a swipe referring to Fagan, who broke into Buckingham Palace twice in 1982.
The fans were spotted on TV as the BT cameras focused in on the travelling Hoops support.
Celtic were also fined £3,731 for pyro in the stands in their opener against Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Rangers have been fined £12,284 for “improper conduct of the team” against Napoli on Sep 14.
The Gers received six bookings during the match, including two which saw James Sands sent off.
The Ibrox club flouted Uefa’s rules by singing God Save The King prior to that match but the governing body said no action would be taken for that incident.

Hearts were fined £2,194 for away fans throwing objects onto the pitch during their away match against RFS in Latvia on Sep 15.
The club have also received a warning for “improper conduct of the team” during that match.

Pep Guardiola looks bemused as reporter jumps him with last ditch selfie request in press conference

MAN City boss Pep Guardiola thought he had seen it all in football – until a journalist asked for a selfie DURING a press conference.Guardiola, 51, was about to speak to the media in Copenhagen ahead of City’s Champions League clash in the Danish capital on Tuesday.

But before he could take any questions, a local journalist in a face-mask approached him with his phone.
And the reporter then cheekily asked the former
and Bayern Munich manager for a selfie.
Pep was so stunned he politely said: “Sorry?” before agreeing to the snap.
Guardiola was then made to wait awkwardly as the reporter struggled to take the selfie on his phone.

Pep did crack a smile after the bizarre exchange, which came the day before City’s clash with FC Copenhagen.
Guardiola admits he would love to have the luxury of a settled back four – but he cannot rely on his defenders to stay fit.
The one constant about Manchester City’s season so far is that Erling Haaland has been banging the goals in up front.
But it has been a different story at the back with Kyle Walker, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte all battling injuries.

So the Etihad boss may have to rely on job shares among his backline to get his team through a busy season.
Guardiola said: “I would love to have the same back four but they cannot handle it.
“The players we have cannot handle every three days of being fit, other teams might be able to, but we can’t.
“Nathan can’t, Ruben last season, Aymeric came back from a big injury so it’s important for us everyone can play and everyone can perform well.
“If you want to be in there with all the titles we are fighting for and with the World Cup and be in that position to fight until the end and we need to be ready to fight until the end, otherwise it will be so difficult.”
To prove the point, Stones (hamstring) and Walker (groin) stayed at home when City flew to Denmark on Monday.
The arrival of Manuel Akanji just before the transfer deadline has given Guardiola some breathing space.

And the Swiss has helped to improve defensive performances since his £15.1 million arrival from Borussia Dortmund.
Guardiola said; “Well I would say the last game was better defensively. In general it’s good but we can do better in many aspects.” More

Having bounced back from North London derby defeat with victory at Brighton on Saturday, Spurs are now looking to correct their form in Europe too.
Antonio Conte’s side, who are second in Group D, struggled to create clear cut chances in Frankfurt last week and lost away to Sporting Lisbon in their second group stage fixture.
Now, with back-to-back home games against Frankfurt and Sporting, Son has challenged his team-mates to step up.
He said: “Everyone knows how important that game [Frankfurt] is.
“To be honest we were not happy with the result at Frankfurt.
