The final nail in the coffin came last night as Barca were beaten 3-0 by Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp.
But rather than boo the team off or show their disdain, the home fans called their players back onto the pitch.
Supporters of the Gol Nord behind one of the goals then clapped, sang and waved their flags with pride as the players watched on.
It was a jovial atmosphere with hundreds of fans sticking around long after the final whistle.

A Champions League exit is a huge blow for the Spanish giants, who are now set to enter the Europa League for the second year running.
But the fans wanted to provide a morale boost to the players with plenty left to fight for this season.
Xavi’s side trail LaLiga leaders Real Madrid by just three points and have lost just once in the league.
Barca will also be one of the biggest teams in the Europa League along with Arsenal and Manchester United so could fancy their chances of winning the competition.

They ended the last campaign without silverware and Xavi will be determined not to replicate that failure this season.
Success in the Europa League could also be vital to the club’s finances, since the early Champions League exit means a reported shortfall of around £18m.
That is before the additional loss of ticket sales and TV revenue is taken into consideration, too. More

Watch Emerson Royal’s no-look pass to NOBODY that goes out for goal-kick leaving Tottenham boss Antonio Conte stunned

THIS is the moment Emerson Royal played a no-look pass to NOBODY, leaving Tottenham boss Antonio Conte stunned. The hilarious incident occurred during last night’s 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

I was thinking of a tweet trolling Emerson Royal for that awful pass attempt to Gil and I just realized that this video clip is more than enoughI cannot believe it was a no look passpic.twitter.com/65kW20oDQl— John Shin (GoodVibesJohn) (@MrJohnShin) October 26, 2022

Spurs needed a win to book their place in the knockout stages, but got off to a bad start when former winger Marcus Edwards fired the visitors ahead.
Tottenham fought back in the second half and levelled with ten minutes to go through Rodrigo Bentancur.
And as the clock ticked down, Spurs continued to push hard for a winner.
Brazilian wing-back Emerson was summoned off the bench to provide some attacking intent down the right flank.

But Conte was left wishing he’d kept the flop on the sidelines.
As Emerson bombed forward ready to whip in a cross, fellow misfit Bryan Gil drifted inwards ready to receive the ball.
However, this instead prompted Emerson to attempt a no-look pass usually reserved for the game’s top technicians.
Predictably, the ball ended up going nowhere near Gil and instead went straight out of play for a Sporting goal kick.

Groans burst from the home fans, while Conte was seen looking stunned before placing his fingers to his forehead, urging Emerson to focus.
Spurs fans were furious too, with one saying: “Emerson trying that pass is f***ing embarrassing.”
Another wrote: “My head wasn’t even hot at that point, it was sent in orbit.”
One noted: “That Emerson no-look has killed me.”
Another added: “If last night achieved one thing, it deflected the attention off Emerson.”
There was joy in the dying moments though when Harry Kane thought he’d tapped in a dramatic late winner.
Wild celebrations broke out in the stands and on the sidelines before VAR intervened.

A four-minute check then deemed Kane to be offside, with his goal ruled out and Spurs now needing to beat Marseille away in their final group game.

Raging Antonio Conte storms out of Spurs press conference after ONE question after VAR rules out late Harry Kane winner

But after a FOUR-MINUTE review, Dutch VAR Pol van Boekel told his compatriot ref Danny Makkelie to disallow it for offside.
Tottenham boss Conte was sent off as he furiously protested, while raging fans booed the officials.
The Italian later stormed out of a press conference after just one question as he blasted: “I don’t see honesty.”
He went on to say: “VAR is doing a lot of damage.

“I hope the club understands this and they speak with the people they have to speak with.
“The club has to be strong, otherwise it is only the manager speaking. It creates big, big damage.”
Emerson Royal headed the ball against a Sporting defender in the build-up but VAR Van Boekel deemed Kane to be ahead of the ball.
Even the official VAR photo looked inconclusive.
Now, Tottenham still need a point at Marseille’s Stade Velodrome next Thursday to progress into the knockout stage.
Conte added: “The ball was in front of Kane and the goal is a goal.
“I don’t understand the line they put. It is very difficult to comment on this decision.
“I don’t comment on the referee’s decision but the VAR this season in between Prem and Champions League, we are unlucky.
Goal should have stood, says Mark HalseyDUTCH VAR Pol van Boekel’s controversial decision to rule out Harry Kane’s late would-be winner for offside was very, very tight.
The fact the ball deflected off Sporting defender Flavio Nazinho before it reached Kane is irrelevant because it was not a deliberate play.
Secondly, the fact the ball went backwards off Emerson Royal’s head before it reached Kane does not matter either, the direction of the ball never does.
It is whether Kane was closer to the goal line than the ball and the second-most rear defender when it was played.
If Kane was judged to have been behind the ball, he would have been onside.
Technology isn’t foolproof and can we say Kane was definitely in front of the ball when Royal headed it? I’m not sure.
It took around four minutes to check and if it is taking that long we shouldn’t be disallowing goals like that.
It was very difficult to tell if Kane was a toenail in front or behind the ball.
If that’s what the VAR is looking for and it takes four minutes, you can find whatever you want to find.

“We are only the team that has repeated a penalty.
“And every penalty I go to see if the keeper moves on the line and then I see it a lot of time.
“I want to see a repeat of penalties in the Prem. We are not so lucky with VAR. I think they create a big damage.”
Heartbroken Kane added: “I don’t really know what to say to be honest I’m just absolutely gutted it ended like that and not with a win.
“To take the positives we showed great fighting spirit and it’s all in our hands for the final group game.”
While team-mate Matt Doherty added: “You can see from the celebrations we thought we won it.
“I don’t know what happened at the end.
“I thought because the ball went backwards and hit a defender it was a different phase of play. I’ll have to look at the rule book.
“A few of us don’t have a clue what happened.”
The late mayhem came after Rodrigo Bentancur cancelled out Marcus Edwards’ opener against his old side.
Conte is the only man sent off in both the Prem and the Champions League this season.

Watch Atletico Madrid miss penalty and hit bar AFTER full-time to crash out of Champions League in four minutes of CHAOS

ATLETICO MADRID missed a penalty and hit the bar AFTER full-time to crash out of the Champions League in the group stages. The 2021 LaLiga champions were held to a 2-2 draw by Bayer Leverkusen.

Goals on Atletico’s side from Yannick Carrasco and Rodrigo De Paul cancelled out Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
And as five minutes of added time expired, after a fruitless Atletico onslaught, referee Clement Turpin blew his whistle.
Atletico players surrounded him claiming a handball but unimpressed, the French official continued to make his way off the Wanda Metropolitano pitch.
That was until he got a message from VAR, instructing him to check the pitchside monitor.

And after some deliberation Turpin called the players back to present Atletico with a golden chance to keep their Champions League hopes alive right at the death.
With the clock now on almost 99 minutes, Carrasco stepped up in front on an expectant crowd.
Nerves got the better of the Belgian as Leverkusen keeper Lukas Hradecky saved it to his left.
But the drama wasn’t over as Saul ran on to a completely free header from the rebound.

The ex-Chelsea midfielder somehow hit the bar.
The ball then flew to Reinildo Mandava who had another chance Atletico’s hero.
But his effort flicked off the heel of luckless Carrasco and flew wide.
Fans watched on stunned as Atleti’s players dropped to their knees, and out of the tournament with a game to go.
The draw left Diego Simeone’s side trailing second place Porto, who they face in the final group game by four points.
A third placed finish would see Atletico drop down into the Europa League, a competition they won a number of years ago against Marseille.
However, that spot is far from a guarantee with opponents Leverkusen trailing by a point.

Tottenham 1 Sporting 1: Kane’s last-gasp winner controversially ruled out by VAR to leave Spurs’ last-16 spot in danger

HARRY KANE thought he had saved the day once again. But unlike his last-gasp heroics at Chelsea earlier this season and countless times before, on this occasion he was to be denied by VAR with ten seconds left on the clock.

But the goal was ruled out for offside leaving Spurs furiousCredit: Getty

The stratospheric high to crushing low proved too much for Conte, who blew his top at the officials and was sent off.
Before the late drama, Conte’s Totteham had been serving up another uninspiring display, following on from two defeats in a row in the league.
Old boy Marcus Edwards, who joined Spurs as an eight-year-old but never made a senior appearance, was stealing the show thanks to his fine opener midway through the first half.
Rodrigo Bentancur’s late header looked as if it would only spare Conte’s blushes but not be enough to seal qualification for the Champions League knockout stages.

Yet when Kane crashed home Emerson Royal’s knockdown deep into stoppage time, all inside the magnificent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium believed the hosts had done it.
Then came that dreaded wait as VAR official Pol van Boekel intervened and eventually informed on-field referee and Dutch compatriot Danny Makkelie that the strike had to be chalked off for offside.
Eric Dier fumed at the Makkelie that Royal’s header went backwards, though that would have been irrelevant if Kane was in an offside position.
Although even that was hard to clarify after four minutes of replays.

Conte’s rage overtook him as he was given his marching orders.
Yet he will have known, deep down, that while the dreaded lines of doom on the video assistant referee’s TV may have been cruel on his side, defeat on Sporting would have been harsher.
Spurs went into this game knowing three points would have put them into the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
But they served up another leggy display, continuing a theme seen in defeats against Manchester United and Newcastle in the last week.
Grumbles have been growing on the terraces over the team’s lack of invention.
There were plenty more of those here, though the fan ire, in the end, was directed at the spoil-sport officials.
Now Spurs must go to Marseille on Tuesday needing a result to avoid relegation to the Europa League.

And, frustratingly for Conte, that means the likes of Kane, Dier, Son Heung-min and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg cannot get the rest they so badly need.
Edwards was once likened to Lionel Messi by former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino for his ability on the ball.
But such praise was always going to be impossible to live up to and in 2019 he left the club permanently for Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes.
Sporting liked enough of what they saw to sign him in January and since then he has improved so much that his manager Ruben Amorim has tipped him for England.
That Messi comparison did not seem quite so outlandish during the reverse fixture in September.
Sporting won that game 2-0 thanks to two late goals – inflicting Spurs’ first loss of the season in all competitions.
But the most thrilling moment came towards the end of the first half when Edwards emulated the Argentine genius by dribbling past Dier, Ivan Perisic and Cristian Romero, only to be denied a wondergoal by Hugo Lloris’ save.
This time round though, he did get to feel the ecstasy of finding the net against his old side.
On 22 minutes his moment came as he outmuscled Hojbjerg in midfield before letting fly with a low drive outside the area which nestled beautifully in the corner, giving Lloris no chance.
Boos rang out at the break not only in frustration of the scoreline off the back of two losses but for another lacklustre, tired display.
Sub Nazinho blew two great chances to kill Tottenham off, first seeing a shot repelled by Lloris and then firing wide of an open goal on the rebound.
Those misses proved costly as Bentancur headed home Perisic’s corner with ten minutes to go, with that goal surviving a VAR check.
Sporting old boy Dier should have won it but somehow headed wide from five yards in the 90th minute.
Then came Kane’s intervention as he blasted in sub Royal’s knockdown – only for the computer to say no.
    Read More on The Sun
Heading to the French riviera knowing defeat will send them into the Europa League is the last thing Conte needed right now.
But in the cold light of day, Spurs’ display here did not deserve more – as heartbreaking as it was to see Kane’s salvation denied.
Sporting held their own away from home More

Ajax 0 Liverpool 3: Salah, Nunez and Elliott strike as Reds forget Prem woes and secure last-16 spot with game to go

NO-ONE expected this a month ago – certainly not Jurgen Klopp. On the night of his worst night as Liverpool manager, a 4-1 humiliation at Napoli, Klopp would have laughed had you told him his team would be through to the last 16 with a game to go.

But four successive wins have followed that nightmare in Naples. At a noisy Johan Cruyff Arena last night, goals from Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott sealed an easy win over a desperately-poor Ajax team.
When you look at Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest, no-one on Merseyside will be getting carried away with themselves.
If we are being realistic, Liverpool have been lucky to feature in the same group as both Ajax, along with Rangers, who have been absolutely hopeless.
The fact Ajax have conceded 15 goals and Rangers 19 sums it up.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
But Klopp will still take heart from the fact that his team, although still visibly low on confidence, put away an Ajax team two weeks after thrashing Rangers 7-1. These have been Liverpool’s only away wins this term.
In theory, Liverpool can still win their group. But when teams are level, places are decided on a head-to-head basis. So even if Liverpool beat Napoli, the scoreline in southern Italy would be taken into account.
Instead, Klopp can now concentrate on somehow getting some consistency in the League as their rotten injury situation slowly improves.
Klopp will wish he could face more teams as defensively inept as Ajax who are clearly rebuilding after the loss of their manager to Manchester United along with key players.

Maybe it would have been different had Ajax taken their early chance when Liverpool were looking nervous.
Steven Berghuis should have capitalised on some static defending but he blasted a shot against the base of the post.
And there were still problems across the defence with Andy Robertson getting caught out on the left and Trent Alexander-Arnold teeing Ajax up with a suicidal pass across the pitch.
Luckily for Alexander-Arnold, Berghuis’ long-range strike fizzed past the post.
In fairness to Alexander-Arnold, he did deliver one block to keep out a goal-bound shot from Dusan Tadic in a move which once again saw Andy Robertson exposed on the left.
Liverpool had been so poor and preditacle going forward and they did not manage their first attack through Salah until the 29th minute and that shot was blocked by a defender.
Yet Liverpool remained patient, they started to pick away at their Dutch opponents and they enjoyed a decent spell towards the closing stages of the first half.
Robertson fired a shot against the sidenetting and Elliott forced a save from Remko Pasveer.
Finally, just before half-time, Liverpool delivered the type of classy move we have seen on so many occasions away from home, apart from this season, which has already seen Klopp’s side lose four times on their travels.

Harvey Elliott smashes Liverpool 3-0 up early in the second periodCredit: Rex
It was a terrific finish by Salah, his ninth of the season, although the credit must really go down to Jordan Henderson.
Despite not having the best of games until then, he delivered a brilliant pass with the outside of his boot after having too much strength for floundering right-back right-back Sanchez.
Equally, keeper Pasveer helped by rushing off his line. Before the game, Pasveer was asked about the state of the pitch due to a rave which had been staged at the stadium on Saturday night.
Pasveer joked that he had not been at the electronic music event but he certainly danced off his line for no particular reason to invite Salah to shoot first-time.
That goal took the sting out of the atmosphere and Nunez should have scored a second before the break. He wasted an easy chance and fired against the post after Bobby Firmino had selflessly squared.
Nunez made up for that miss by scoring with a brilliant, glancing header from Robertson’s corner.
And then the Liverpool of old returned, causing mayhem on the counter attack.
They went for jugular and grabbed a third when Elliott, who scored his first Champions League goal against Rangers, hammered the ball into the roof of the net after a clever pass from Mo Salah. Once again, Ajax keeper Pasveer was all over the place.
With most of the second half to play, Klopp was fortunate that his team could shift back into second gear and with one eye on Saturday night’s home game with Leeds, he made some changes to keep his players fresh.
You would expect Liverpool, who have been okay at Anfield this season, to see off Leeds.
But it is away from home where Liverpool must improve. Spurs away, on November 6, will once again give us a better indicator of where Klopp’s team are at.

Fans could barely contain their hysteria at Nunez’s shock miss

After Mo Salah gave the Reds the lead with a wonderful effort, Nunez was presented with a great opportunity as Liverpool broke before half-time.
A quick counter-attack saw Jurgen Klopp’s team look to overload the opposition box.
Roberto Firmino received the ball about 10 yards from goal as Andy Robertson found him with a pin-perfect pass.
The Brazilian played it across the box and the pace on the cross took the keeper out of the game.
