Former Man City assistant Arteta is shining in the Emirates dugout this season.
He has guided Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table.
And Sport claims Barcelona chiefs are keeping tabs on Arteta after being impressed.
Current Nou Camp boss Xavi is under the spotlight after seeing Barca crash out of Europe’s top competition in the group stage.

The cash-strapped Catalans were banking on a major pay day from the knockouts after a summer splurge.
It’s reckoned the early exit will set Barcelona back at least £20million, plus add-ons they could have had later down the line.
And there will now be more pressure on Xavi to deliver in the league, with Barca one point behind leaders Real Madrid.
However, club chiefs are still backing their former midfielder to deliver.

And Arteta is instead seen as a future option should a change become necessary.
That’s good news for Arsenal, who hope their ex-player can deliver a first Premier League title since the Invincibles in 2004.
As for Xavi, he admits he is fully aware of the consequences if he doesn’t deliver trophies after signing stars including Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.
He said: “With the effort made by the club and the squad we have, we have to compete for trophies.

“And if we don’t win, as the president said, there will be consequences, starting with me.
“But if we don’t win, another coach will come in. But I am going to give everything so that this works.” More

Rio Ferdinand would ‘put his house’ on Man Utd, Arsenal and City finishing in top four… along with one outsider

RIO FERDINAND says he would “put his house” on Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City finishing in the top four this season. But Ferdinand also reckons there’s one strong outsider to take the final spot for next term’s Champions League.
Rio Ferdinand has revealed his predictions for the top four race… with a surprise twistCredit: Reuters
The race to qualify for Europe’s elite competition is already proving to be an intriguing one.
Arsenal, Man City, Tottenham and Newcastle occupy the top four after 12 to 13 games played.
Man United and Chelsea are hot on their heels in fifth and sixth.
Meanwhile, surprise packages Fulham and Brighton follow on ahead of last season’s beaten finalists Liverpool.

And Ferdinand reckons there could be a shock come the end of the campaign.
The former United superstar is backing his old side to qualify under Erik ten Hag.
He also believes Arsenal and City, the two top teams this term, should also easily make the cut.
But as for the fourth and final Champions League spot, Ferdinand has overlooked all three of Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool.

He believes it’s Newcastle who are actually leading the race for fourth.
The Magpies have impressed under Eddie Howe this term, losing just once while boasting the best defence in the table.
And with no extra European games to play this term, Newcastle will be able to fully focus on the league once the World Cup is out of the way.
Ferdinand told Vibe with Five: “It will be Arsenal, Man City and Man United.
“They are the three teams I would put my house on now.
“And then the fourth one I can’t pick. Newcastle could come in and take it.” More

Beating Spurs was a great joy at Arsenal… now I’ll boot them out of Champions League with Marseille, says Alexis Sanchez

A defeat for Antonio Conte’s side would see them fail to reach the Champions League knock-outs and be demoted to the Europa League.
Sanchez, who also netted in a 2-1 FA Cup semi-final victory over Spurs for Manchester United in 2018, said: “I have great affection for Arsenal from my time there.
“I have some great memories with everyone at the club, especially the fans.
“Beating Spurs every time was a great joy. It was very special and those are memories that I hold dear to my heart.

“Every single player has motivation to play and win. We all want to bring the victory back.
“In the dressing room, there is a lot of passion. Playing in front of the fans with their atmosphere is super important and that will drive us on.”
Sanchez, who was suspended for Spurs’ 2-0 win over Marseille in September, is one of FOUR players in the French giants’ ranks with close ties to Arsenal.
Sead Kolasinac and Matteo Guendouzi both left the Emirates to head to OM, while left wing-back Nuno Tavares is on loan from the Gunners.

Sanchez also played under Tottenham boss Conte while at Inter Milan where they won Serie A together in 2021.
But the ex-Barcelona forward was frustrated by his lack of game-time under Conte at San Siro, once describing himself as like a “caged lion”.
Sanchez, who turns 34 next month, added: “We had a great experience together but he’s a very demanding coach.
“If you don’t give 100 per cent on the pitch, you’ll get dropped for the next game.”
Conte himself is suspended for Wednesday’s clash that is being dubbed the Game of the Year by the local press after his red card against Sporting Lisbon last week.
He is allowed to attend the game but cannot go into the dressing room, give a post-match press conference or speak directly to his players.
Opposite number Igor Tudor claimed his old mucker’s absence would be a big help to his side, who are bottom of Group D but can qualify for the last 16 with a win.
The Croat, who played alongside Conte at Juventus in the 90s, said: “It’s good! He has a good impact on the game so it is better that he is not there.
“But the players are playing first, not the coaches.

“Tomorrow we have a great game ahead of us. It really is a top opportunity for the boys to reach the knock-out of the CL. We’ve had five good games so we need to build on that.
“But don’t forget we are an outsider. So any chance to get to the knock-out stage is great for us.” More
