United dramatically won the game 2-1 thanks to last-gasp goals from Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But club captain Keane was not in the side and on the pitch to lift the trophy due to a suspension picked up in the semis.
Peter Schmeichel instead did the honours – but reflecting back Neville feels it should have been Keane.
He said on Stick to Football, in association with SkyBet: “When I look back now, you should have lifted the trophy really first time that night. On the pitch.”

Keane, looking bemused, replied: “Nah, I don’t agree with that.”
Neville then said: “Come on with your kit on.”
But Keane responded: “With shin pads on? No, no, no I don’t agree with that.
“I’m not against other people doing it, I know the rules have changed now I think you can be suspended…

“But at the time, I think I would have been really embarrassed, I would have been cringing.”
Although not named, Keane could have been referring to Chelsea legend Terry, who was also suspended for the 2012 final, against Bayern.

The defensive icon was red-carded in the semi-final against Barcelona and had to watch from the stands as the Blues beat Bayern on penalties.
But Terry joined the on-field celebrations and lifted Chelsea’s first ever Champions League trophy in a full kit.
The ex-England captain has been subject to years of memes and banter but he has gone on to reveal the reason behind his antics.
Terry said on SoccerAM: “I don’t know why people got so carried away with it.
“There were four or five other players in the same situation, it wasn’t just me!
“But because people don’t like me as much I got a bit more stick. It actually came from Uefa.

I’m a former Chelsea star who went on to become a photocopier salesman – but you’ll still see me at Stamford Bridge

WHEN former Chelsea striker Tommy Langley switched to non-league football at the age of 31 in 1989, he spent the next five as a photocopier salesman. Now, at the age of 65, he is a host of the Blues’ hospitality matchday packages along with some of his other ex-Stamford Bridge friends.

But he chuckled at a comparison of how the Chelsea business model has changed at the South London club, compared to when he first joined the club as a ten-year-old.
He said: “Let’s put it this way, I don’t see Enzo Fernandez getting covered in photocopier ink and being low on toner when he quits the game!
“But when I started playing non-league, I knew I had to start working to supplement my income.”
Langley started life in South London but grew up in Basingstoke.

He comes from a family of die-hard Blues fans. He said: “When I was only ten, I wrote a letter to Chelsea Football Club asking if I could have a trial.
“Imagine my shock and excitement when a week or so later a letter dropped on our doormat. The reply said they would be very happy for me to go along for a trial.
“Once I had played, they said they would let me know.
“A few weeks later I was due to play in a game for my usual team when my dad told me I would not be playing because they had received a call from Chelsea saying they wanted me to join them.

“It was like all my Christmases had come at once.”
Langley became the third youngest Chelsea player to appear for the club behind Ian Hamilton and Kingsley Whiffen.
I won three Premier Leagues and Champions League with Chelsea… my daughter still sends me loads of memes mocking me
He was 16 years, 174 days on November 9, 1974 against Leicester — a goalless draw.
He recalled: “At 16, you are nervous but fearless. I suppose it was a bit like how Luke Littler has been at the darts recently.
“It was such an exciting time in my life being able to play in a team with players who were my heroes like Peter Bonetti, Ron Harris and John Hollins.
“I will never forget my first goal for the club. It was on my 17th birthday — February 8, 1975.”
That came in a 2-1 victory over Birmingham at Stamford Bridge.
And it is clear that Langley, who won an England Under-21 cap and scored for England B against Singapore in 1978, would have been happy to have stayed at Chelsea for the rest of his career.
He said: “There were a whole bunch of us who came through the ranks like Ray Wilkins, Gary Locke, John Sparrow, Ian Britton, Stevie Wicks and Ray Lewington. We were a really tight-knit group.
“Tragically, we’ve lost a couple of my dearest friends over the last few years. We had a camaraderie that remains as strong between us to this day.”
But off-pitch matters changed Chelsea in the late 70s.
An ambitious redevelopment of the ground threatened the financial stability of the club.
Star player Wilkins was sold to Manchester United in 1979 to help balance the books and Langley was off-loaded to QPR for £425,000.
He said: “I will never forget it, I was on my honeymoon when I got a message saying that Jim Smith at Birmingham was keen to talk to me.
“I did everything I could to make it as awkward as possible for them to sell me — but in the end I moved to QPR.”
He scored 43 goals in 152 appearances in all competitions for the Blues between November 1974 and May 1980.
Langley accepts that the moment he left Stamford Bridge his playing career nose-dived.
He said: “I look back now and I am embarrassed at just how bad I was with my attitude with all the clubs I played for.
“Today, as well as my matchday hosting, I am also a football agent on a very small scale.
“But the opportunity to look after young players gives me the platform to tell them first-hand how they have to dedicate and grasp the chance when it comes along. To do the opposite to what I did!”
Langley lasted less than a season at QPR and said: “I remember scoring against Chelsea — which felt very strange.”
Over the next decade, he played for eight clubs in four different countries. He reflects on those ten years as a huge experience but he lives with huge regrets.
He revealed: “I played in Greece, Hong Kong and also joined up with Rodney Marsh in the States at Tampa Bay. It should have been the time of my life but stupidly my heart wasn’t in it.”
The former frontman is as passionate about Chelsea today as he was as the 16-year-old making his debut in 1974.
Like every Blues fan, Langley has basked in the glory of five top-flight titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, two Champions League and two Europa League successes over the last two decades.
He added: “When I was a kid, Chelsea were always seen as a bit of a glamour club but were only ever a potential cup-winning side.
“If you had told me then that we would be winning two European Cups (Champions League) 20 years on, I would have told you that you had been taking something that was not good for you!

Man Utd scout star, 18, who broke Red Devils’ hearts as Ten Hag seeks Jadon Sancho replacement transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED have been tracking Copenhagen wonderkid Roony Bardghji as he warms up for his side’s Champions League last-16 clash with rivals Manchester City next month.United dispatched a scout to Portugal to check on Bardghji, 18, in the Atlantic Ocean Cup — an event that Scandinavian clubs use to get back up to speed after the winter break.

The teenager has been on their radar since his stunning winner in the Danish champions’ 4-3 group stage win over the Red Devils in November.
Roony Bardghji kept his composure to fire the loose ball into the back of the net, giving Andre Onana no chance.
And that prompted a superb rendition of “Roony, Roony” around the 38,000-seater stadium – in a clear and brutal jibe at United and their record goalscorer Wayne Rooney.
And the winger didn’t disappoint the United spy in the stands at the Algarve Stadium on Monday, volleying home his side’s late consolation goal in a 2-1 defeat to Brondby after a lively display.

Bardghji burst onto the scene with Copenhagen in 2021, making his senior debut just six days on from his 16th birthday and scoring his first goal for the club a week later.
The Sweden Under-21 international, who was born in Kuwait City and played football with his Man Utd-mad dad from the age of three, has struck 11 times already this season.
The youngster’s price tag has soared to around £17million with Copenhagen likely to demand a record fee for the Danish Superliga this summer.
His Copenhagen career overlapped briefly with United striker Rasmus Hojlund’s time at the club.

Meanwhile, United will watch Bardghji again on Friday in his club’s next warm-up match against Molde and deploy scouts to both legs of the City tie.

It is not the first time this season that Maupay has wound someone up, it was only last week that he got on the wrong side of James Maddison for copying his darts celebration.
But where does Maupay rank in the Premier League’s top ten s***houses…

Huth was a subtle master of the art of s***housery during his time in the Premier League.
He put his talents to use as he helped Leicester City win the Premier League.
One famous moment was when Louis van Gaal hit out at the defender for pulling Marouane Fellaini’s hair in a game.
The Belgian then copied the action against Arsenal, to which Huth tweeted: “Looks like I taught him well.”

The former Chelsea striker gained a massive fanbase for his militant performances.
While he was loved by Chelsea’s fans for the opposition’s supporters he would often take up the role of the pantomime villain.
He did not change after leaving the Blues as he came back to haunt Liverpool in the Champions League in 2020.

Suarez was one of the best of the dark arts of football while at Liverpool.
He once celebrated a goal against Everton by diving in front of then-manager David Moyes after the Scotsman called him out for playacting.
His s***housery did get him into trouble a couple of times as he was slapped with a 10-gam ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, just one of his three career bites.

Adebayor was responsible for one of the most iconic moments of s***housery in football history.
In 2009 he netted for Manchester City just months after leaving Arsenal and proceeded to run the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Gunners’ supporters.
Fans have never forgotten the moment, although last year he admitted that he had put it “behind him”.
    2. Neal Maupay

The Brentford ace has become one of the prime suspects for s***housery in the Premier League.
Maupay’s recent celebrations and words to irritate his opponents backs this up.

Only Jose Mourinho can sort Chelsea out, Pochettino has failed and will get hammered in the Carabao Cup final

IT IS CLEAR Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea is not working and that the club is in a malaise.Only one man can change that: Jose Mourinho.

For most of the past two decades Chelsea have had a win-at-all-costs mentality.
The players have been strong – physically and mentally – and the football has been effective and efficient.
Players like John Terry, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Diego Costa were beloved at Stamford Bridge – and hated everywhere else.
However, post-Roman Abramovich’s era, Chelsea feel like a club without an identity on or off the pitch.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Chelsea doesn’t feel like Chelsea anymore. Reappointing Mourinho would immediately give us that identity back.
Despite managing great clubs like Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Manchester United, when you think of Mourinho, you think of Chelsea.
It was Mourinho who established this identity in his first spell as manager, three years in which he won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup.
Much is made of the third season of his second spell where things went spectacularly wrong, but in the second season he won a third Premier League title and another League Cup.

He is a serial winner and has proved this throughout his career.
Mourinho is also a charismatic leader, and while there are some talented young footballers at Stamford Bridge, there is a dearth of talismanic figures at the club for fans to hang our hopes on.
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino APOLOGISES to fuming fans after watching his side thumped by Wolves
Critics of Mourinho will say his style of football is from a bygone era, that the game has evolved through the tactics of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.
But anyone watching Chelsea under Pochettino and Graham Potter would struggle to find any kind of style of football at all.
Everyone knows how Mourinho is going to set up. Ask people to describe how Chelsea play under Pochettino… they will struggle.
The League Cup final is looming large at the end of the month, and as well as being an important trophy in its own right, it is the only realistic chance of European football next season.
Under Pochettino there is no chance we will win it.
With serial winner and talismanic leader Mourinho in charge we might. Bring him home.

Why Chelsea must STICK with PochTODD BOEHLY would be a fool to sack Mauricio Pochettino before this month’s Carabao Cup Final, SunSport’s Chelsea correspondent Andy Dillon writes.
Todd Boehly would be a fool to sack Mauricio Pochettino before this month’s Carabao Cup Final.
But then all common sense went out of the window along with the personal effects of three other managers since the American chairman took over Chelsea less than two years ago.
Boehly and his pal Behdad Eghbali bought Chelsea for £2.5bn in May 2022 and promised to invest a further £1.75bn in revolutionising the entire squad.
They have certainly done that. Pochettino is famed for his ability to develop young players but is getting nowhere fast with the costly collection of individuals dumped on him by Chelsea’s transfer department
Getting them to the Carabao Cup final on February 25 is a miracle. That they look destined to get ripped apart by Liverpool at Wembley is another matter.
Pochettino admits his job is not safe. But one thing is for sure, he will not quit. As much as some of those Chelsea fans calling for his head in Sunday’s humiliating 4-2 home defeat by Wolves would like.
They were also singing for former owner Roman Abramovich – so Boehly is not safe either.
The deposed Russian, now in exile, is always the person of first resort that a bunch of supporters used to winning big things every year reach for when times are tough. It won’t happen so the fans need to get used to that idea. More

Why winning the Carabao Cup could be the worst thing Pochettino does at Chelsea, thanks to little known rule

MAURICIO POCHETTINO knows his Chelsea future could rest on this month’s Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool – if he lasts that long. But the Blues hierarchy might privately wonder if a Wembley win could end up causing the club MORE financial problems than defeat against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Todd Boehly faces financial woes at ChelseaCredit: Rex
Victory on February 25 would earn Pochettino his first piece of silverware in English football after his spate of near-misses at Spurs.
It would also ensure that the Blues would be back in Europe next season – but only in the Conference League.
And that is where the money men inside Stamford Bridge could well be starting to get more than slightly concerned.
Financial analysts including former Manchester City executive Stefan Borsson have already predicted that Chelsea will have to sell players in the six week gap between the end of the season and the close of the football financial year on June 30 to avoid breaching Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
    READ MORE CHELSEA NEWS
Those regulations give clubs leeway to make “allowable losses” of £105m over three seasons.
The latest figures from accountants Deloitte estimated Chelsea’s annual wage bill at £350m, while their current “amortisation costs” of transfers is believed to be in the realm of £180m-plus heading into next year.
Chelsea are already likely to earn at least £17m less in Prem TV money than they had envisaged.
A top six place would be worth around £157m compared to the £140m if they remain in their current 11th position.
    Most read in Football

Then you can factor in two years of missing out of at least £75m in Champions League revenue.
But more of a concern is that qualifying for Europe would mean Chelsea having to meet Uefa’s far MORE stringent financial rules – or face significant penalties.
‘All bets are off’ at ‘madhouse’ Chelsea says Sun Sport’s Andy Dillon following defeat against Wolves
Under Uefa rules, introduced this season, clubs competing in any competition next term will be restricted to spending a maximum 80 per cent of their revenues on wages and transfers.
Chelsea’s income is likely to fall to below £450m this season and next, with the Conference League worth no more than a maximum £15m if a team wins every game.
Assuming that £450m income figure, Chelsea will not be allowed to spend more than £360m – which, given their current wage-bill, leaves just £10m to play with.
In addition, Uefa’s FFP regulations, which will be a two year calculation next season, will only allow losses of £34m across 2023 and 2024, with calculation now done on a calendar year basis.

It makes the prospect of Chelsea embarking on another huge summer spending spree, whoever is the manager, far less likely.
Because the Blues regime amortised the transfer fees of the majority of their recruits over the past 18 months across up to eight seasons, they are carrying huge costs.
Those sums still hanging over each player must be taken off the profits for any sales – so Chelsea would, for example, have to agree a deal of £38m for Marc Cucarella, £50m for injury-prone Wesley Fofana or £39m for unwanted Romelu Lukaku to avoid LOSING money of the departures.
The “profit” point for both Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez is around £88m.
