Salah’s strategic mind has seen him break some of the world’s greatest teams down throughout his six-year stint at Liverpool.
The former Fiorentina star worked his way through Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s defences at the Etihad earlier today.
Salah provided the assist for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s equaliser just 10 minutes before full-time to salvage a 1-1 draw for the visitors. More

I spent three months on loan at Southport and had to wash my own kit – now I’m starring for Arsenal in Champions League

DESPITE only being 28 years of age, Arsenal keeper David Raya has had something of a journeyman career on the way to making it to the top.The keeper said as much in his interview with Sid Lowe in The Guardian this week where he admitted “My story isn’t the typical footballer’s story”.
David Raya has gone from playing in the National League with Southport to starting in the Champions League for ArsenalCredit: Getty
Raya was brought in to be Arsenal’s no1 this summer in somewhat of a surprise transfer.
His £3million loan move with a £27million option to buy raised eyebrows given that Aaron Ramsdale had looked to have made Arsenal’s no1 spot his own over the past couple of seasons.
Mikel Arteta initially said he would rotate the pair, but Raya soon became the established first choice – both in the Premier League and Champions League.
On his “hard road” to become Arsenal’s first choice keeper, Raya looked back on how he went from a back up keeper in Spanish third division side Cornellia’s youth team to transferring to Blackburn at the age of 16 after the team were invited to train at the Lancashire club.
    READ MORE ARSENAL
Raya joined Blackburn not speaking a word of English but adjusted to the country in the club’s academy before going on loan to Southport to make his first-team debut aged 18.
On his experience at the National League side, Raya told The Guardian: “We trained at the local university. You took your kit home to wash, came with your bag, towel. I was used to that, I’d lived alone since I was 15, but it grounds you, teaches you not to take things for granted.
“There were players for whom the win bonus could be the difference between making it to the end of the month or not, having a bit of money for their kids or paying the water, the gas, electricity, mortgage. If I hadn’t gone, I wouldn’t have see that. Now it’s deeply ingrained in me.”
After returning to Blackburn, Raya initially played as the backup keeper to Jason Steele before becoming first choice in the 2017-18 season when the club were promoted to The Championship.

After a year as Blackburn’s first choice in the second division, he transferred to Brentford where he would help them gain promotion to the Premier League.
Arsenal wanted to sign him off the back of that in 2021, but Brentford were unprepared to sell and the Gunners opted to sign Ramsdale from Sheffield United instead.
It looked as though Raya had missed out on his chance to sign for the Gunners in the two years since that transfer, with the likes of Tottenham and Bayern Munich interested this summer.
But Raya said that after speaking to Arteta, it became clear that he was still wanted at the Emirates: “It was Mikel I spoke to [this summer].”
After this, he told Brentford he wanted to leave and make the step up to play in the Champions League, saying: “The exposure and pressure [at Arsenal] is greater, but you want that because it’s part of being at a big club. You have to deal with that.”
On Raya’s ongoing competition with Ramsdale to establish himself as the team’s no1, Raya said: “Everyone has their opinion. If people want to debate, let them. I have a very good relationship with Aaron and we’re both there to help the team.
“The manager chooses who plays, and that’s it. There are always going to be debates, all the more so at a club like Arsenal.”
Raya is ineligible to face Brentford tonight due to still being on loan from the West London side.
That will give Ramsdale an opportunity to come in and impress in another turn in Arsenal’s ongoing goalkeeper saga. More

Troy Deeney: Jack Grealish has become predictable – Prem has wised up to him but Liverpool clash will be different

JACK GREALISH has become predictable, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.Manchester City are a largely predictable team to play against under Pep Guardiola – they press high, keep possession around the edge of the box and look for cut-backs and late runs.
Manchester City and Jack Grealish have become predictable, claims Troy DeeneyCredit: Getty
The easy thing is highlighting that. The hardest thing in the world is stopping it, and Jack is no different.
When he is on it, cutting inside playing those one-twos, he is unstoppable.
The difference between last season and this season is the efficiency, and Jack has to hold his hands up on that one. His injuries have not helped, but he just looks a bit off it.
There was always going to be a hangover after that Treble season, and you can’t expect him to be as good right now as he was.
    Read More on Football
Jeremy Doku has come in and has now got that fire in his belly and motivation to keep Jack out of the team.
If Jack was playing the way he was at Aston Villa, people would still be saying he is world class by a country mile.
But because he is in such a good team, if his standard goes from 9/10 to 8/10 then people react, and say he isn’t doing what he needs to.
He is becoming a victim of his own success, and those analysing him are falling victim to the moment, but Jack has had to change under Pep.

Some will say he’s changed for the worse. He no longer takes people on for fun, looking for the pass inside instead.
But, I actually see it as a compliment from Pep. He thinks Jack is smart enough to do that.
If you are a Mykhailo Mudryk and rely heavily on your pace, if you asked him to do what Jack does, it would go the other way. Mudryk is fast, just kick it and run.
Jack still has the ability to take people on, but Pep thinks he is good enough to play those intricate passes.
SunSport columnist Deeney claims Man City are dealing with a post-Treble hangoverCredit: Getty
Jack could probably be more selfish on the ball at times, but you can’t be selfish in a Pep team. If you are, you don’t play.
Let’s not forget, Jack is having to create and dominate in a side missing their best player – Kevin De Bruyne.
Last season, De Bruyne would get Jack the ball early a lot to allow him to attack. They’ve struggled to do that this year, especially with Ilkay Gundogan gone too.
It is a mini rebuild and Jack is struggling with that, and that’s no slight on him.
De Bruyne is one of the best players I’ve ever played against, and he takes the focus and pressure off of players around him.
It just goes to show, even with City’s squad depth, take out a world class player and they cannot replicate it. Take Bukayo Saka out for Arsenal and replace him with Reiss Nelson, you see a big difference.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could give Man City a completely different gameCredit: EPA
People have wised up to Jack as well. Teams have tweaked their game to stop him. Jack has pace but he is not a speed merchant, so full-backs stay wide and invite him inside to pounce on him or foul him. So, Jack has to adapt.
It will be slightly different against Liverpool. They will press high and really go for it, and give Jack a lot more space to show what he can do, whether that is from the off or off the bench.
An interesting thought is whether Jack would actually suit Liverpool’s fast-paced countering style more, but the Reds can be just as predictable.
We all know how Jurgen Klopp plays, and I don’t think Jack is fast enough to even start for Liverpool right now.
Speaking of speed, Liverpool have one of the best centre-back partnerships in world football in Ibrahim Konate and Virgil van Dijk, and they will pray Erling Haaland is not fit to start.
At times, City just need one pass, and it isn’t to Jack. One goal-kick from Ederson beating the high press towards the most prolific goal scorer we have ever seen.
It is a puzzle people struggle to solve – press or sit back – and they know Haaland needs one chance and he will score. World class defenders still have no idea how to stop Haaland. More

Pep Guardiola sensationally claims he’d STAY if Man City got relegated to League One but old words come back to bite him

PEP GUARDIOLA has claimed that he would STAY at Manchester City even if the club faced relegation to League One.The treble-winners are in danger of facing a huge punishment if they are found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
Pep Guardiola claims he would remain with Man City if the club faced relegationCredit: PA
City were charged with 115 FFP breaches earlier this year, but claims suggested that it could take up to four years for the investigation to conclude.
However, following Everton’s shock 10-point deduction for breaking profit and sustainability rules, Premier League officials could potentially settle on a punishment as soon as next year.
Some reports have even suggested that the reigning Premier League champions could face relegation.
But Man City boss Guardiola has claimed that he will likely stay at the Etihad – even if his team are relegated all the way down to League One.
    Read More on Football
The Spaniard said: “You are questioning like we have been punished. And in the moment we are innocent until guilt is proved.
“I know the people want it. I know, I feel it. I will wait. Wait and see it and after the sentence has been done we will come here and explain it.
“But absolutely I will not consider my future (if) it depends being here or being in League One. Absolutely.
“There is more chance to stay if we are in League One than if we were in the Champions League.”

Guardiola’s recent comments appear to contradict what he originally said about his future when Man City were first charged.
In February the City boss said: “I said to our people, ‘Tell me’ about the suspicions. I looked at them and believed them 100 per cent from day one so I defended the club because of that.
“I did say, ‘If you lie to me, the day after I am not here. I will be out and you will not be my friend any more’.
“I like to represent a club that is doing things properly. In the end it’s not about winning the Champions League or Premier League, it’s about always doing it well, for our people and our fans.”
Chelsea are also in danger of receiving a punishment for FFP rule breaches.
The Blues have admitted to breaking rules during the Abramovich era — but hope the fact a new regime is now in place will protect them. More

Real Madrid’s staggering transfer budget revealed as all signs point to Galactico arriving with Erling Haaland linked

REAL MADRID look set to move for both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe as their whopping transfer budget has been revealed.Real look ready to usher in another Galactico era following Jude Bellingham’s record £115million move from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

And according to AS, Los Blancos are now looking to add Paris Saint-Germain’s Mbappe as well as Manchester City’s Haaland starting this coming summer.
The Spanish giants also have the funds to pull off such a sensational double swoop in the near future.
The Madrid outfit has £111million (€128m) in cash and £230m (€265m) in unused loans granted to attract both star forwards.
And Real’s imminent move to the new Santiago Bernabeu, which is expected to take place next year around spring, “ensures” a set of “flashy signings” for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
    Read More on Football
The LaLiga team has been keeping tabs on Mbappe for a long time and almost signed him last year until he had a last-minute change of heart and opted to extend at PSG.
However, the France international’s contract runs out in June after he opted against triggering a player clause that would have seen his deal run until 2025.

But recent reports suggested Real’s interest has cooled due to the 24-year-old’s enormous salary demands.
Thus, Ancelotti’s team has turned its focus on Haaland who continues to dominate the goalscoring charts in the Premier League with 17 goals and four assists in 18 appearances already under his name.

Speculation mounted after the Norway international’s agent Rafaela Pimenta was spotted at the Bernabeu to watch the Champions League match against Braga earlier this month.
However, Pimenta insisted after the game there were no talks regarding the 23-year-old.
Reports also suggested there haven’t been any meetings between the two sides yet and negotiations are reserved for the summer. More

Man Utd face being KICKED OUT of Champions League if they have worse league finish than Nice after Ratcliffe takeover

SIR JIM RATCLIFFE’S ownership of Nice could see Manchester United BANNED from Europe next season.Ratcliffe’s £1.3billion deal for a 25 per cent stake in the Old Trafford club is due to be formally confirmed within days.
Manchester United and Marcus Rashford could be kicked out of next season’s Champions LeagueCredit: Getty
But the British billionaire and his Ineos group already own Nice, who are second in Ligue 1 – just a point behind Paris Saint-Germain.
Ahead of next season’s expanded Champions League, French top-flight teams are set to be awarded three automatic spots and one play-off place with Prem sides getting five direct berths.
But under Uefa’s “multi-club ownership” rules, the only way United and Nice can both play in Europe in the next campaign is if one seals an automatic Champions League spot and the other qualifies directly for the Conference League.
If both finish in the Champions League spots in their respective divisions, the team that finishes higher of the two gets the place with the other banned from Europe.
    READ MORE MAN UTD NEWS
And if both finish in the same position, England’s ranking at the top of Uefa’s “access list” means Erik ten Hag’s sixth-placed Reds will get the nod for Europe’s premiere competition – worth up to £140million in TV and prize money – and Nice will only play domestic football.
However, if Nice finish fourth – Ligue 1’s Champions League play-off spot – the potential of them losing the play-off and dropping into the Europa League means United would be also be barred from playing in Uefa’s secondary tournament even if they directly qualify for it by finishing sixth or winning the FA Cup.
In that instance, United’s only chance of playing in Europe would be to win the Carabao Cup or finish seventh and hope the Carabao winners qualify for Europe which would see the Conference League spot prize revert to the Reds.
A Uefa source confirmed: “As the rules stand, it’s a clear situation. Ineos own Nice and are set to have a significant role in running United.

“Unless the regulations are changed, or Ineos sell one of their stakes, they cannot both play in European competitions, unless one is in the Champions league and the other in the Conference League.”
The Uefa rules could also impact on United’s neighbours Manchester City, although more likely on their Spanish sister club Girona who are part of the City Football Group and surprise pacesetters in La Liga ahead of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
