People remembered El Tel with various blasts from the past and one of them had to do with his three-year stint as Barcelona manager.
A photo went viral showing the Dagenham legend being hoisted up by Barca heroes Paco Clos and Migueli.
That was when Venables led the Blaugrana to the 1986 European Cup Final by beating Goteborg in a dramatic semi-final second leg that saw him winning 5-4 on penalties after a 3-0 win at the Nou Camp.
But what makes this pic so special is the fact that a 15-year-old Guardiola, who was then part of the famous La Masia academy, can be seen celebrating in awe of the Tottenham legend.

The Manchester City boss is a Barcelona legend himself as he started out at the club at the tender age of 13 and went on to spend 11 years in the senior squad, most of which saw him wear the armband.
And Gary Neville believes the Spanish tactician learned a lot during Venables’ brief stint in Catalonia as he insists they both had a “very same capability”.
Neville played under the ex-Leeds boss for England and was part of the team that made it to the Euro 1996 semi-finals.
Neville tweeted: “When we hear people that play for Pep Guardiola now say that he can call the outcome of a game in training a few days before the match arrives, Terry Venables had that very same capability, he’d come through the Barcelona system.”

His family said: “We are totally devastated by the loss of a wonderful husband and father who passed away peacefully yesterday after a long illness.
“We would ask that privacy be given at this incredibly sad time to allow us to mourn the loss of this lovely man who we were so lucky to have had in our lives.”
Venables met his wife Yvette in his father’s pub in Chingford, Essex in 1984.
She accompanied the footballing icon to Barcelona when he was appointed as their manager, with the couple marrying in 1991.

Yvette supported Terry after he was dismissed from his job as chief executive of Tottenham Hotspur by the club’s owner Alan Sugar in 1993.
Terry was reinstated after gaining a temporary injunction – but went to lose a three-day High Court battle, with the judge ordering him to pay Sugar’s costs.
Yvette also managed Terry’s Kensington dining club, Scribes West for seven years.
However, the couple decided to sell it in 1997.

Terry and Yvette later ran a boutique hotel and restaurant in Alicante, Spain.
In a 1996 interview, Yvette said: “Terry has more than fulfilled all my romantic aspirations of what the man of my dreams would be like.
“He is my best friend and confidant as well as my husband, and I don’t think any woman could ask for more.
“I could certainly never have imagined what the future would bring when Terry and I first set eyes on each other.
“But to this day I wouldn’t have changed anything.”
Yvette welcomed Terry’s two grown-up daughters from his previous marriage to Christine McCann – while giving up her own own hopes of having children.
She said: “I love children. But the one thing I would never do would be to jeopardise my relationship with Terry.
“And I do think that babies can alter the balance in a marriage.”
Yvette added: “Terry does nothing for himself at home. He wouldn’t know where the hoover was, let alone what to do with it.
“He doesn’t do the washing-up, nothing.
“And it’s probably my fault. His mum used to do everything for him and he’s got into that routine. It really doesn’t bother me.
“If I was to say to him, ‘Oh, please pick up your shirt and put it in the washing machine’, I’m sure he’d do it.
“But I’d never, ever put him in that position.”
Despite being married to the Three Lions legend, Yvette hated being in the limelight.
She said: “I particularly dislike going to big functions.
“I never feel comfortable and dislike the fact that everyone is saying, ‘Oh look, there’s the England coach’, and then looking at me to see what his wife is like.”
But Yvette added: “Terry is my best friend and I’m his. He’s the centre of my life.
“He is also honest, kind and thoughtful, and we both share a good sense of humour.
“It’s really important to be able to laugh, even when things get you down.”

Neville played under Venables for the England national team and took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his sadness at the loss of a footballing legend and tell a memorable story.
The former Manchester United right-back was part of the England team for Euro 1996 which was hosted on home soil.

But despite the compromising photos, Venables stuck up for his team and Neville reckons that summed him up as a manager and as a man.
He wrote: “He was an unbelievable personality and character, larger than life.
“He was someone who was a player’s man, looked after his players, stood up for his players in big situations like the pre-96 trip to Hong Kong and the dentist chair incident.
“He was someone who the players trusted and had great faith in and he always spoke openly,

“And he was a personality that was far too big for the then rigid and stiff FA football association and that’s why they got rid of him after Euro 96 and why the relationship ended.”

Neville was also full of praise for his former gaffer’s tactical ability as he labelled him as Britain’s most gifted coach.
He wrote: “So sorry to hear the news of my very first England coach, Terry Venables.
“A man who gave me a chance to play for my country and became without a shadow of doubt my number one England coach in my whole career.”
He added: “I sit here today thinking back to my special times with Terry and can say he is without doubt the most technically gifted British coach we’ve ever produced.”
Terry Venables enjoyed a superb managerial career taking charge of England, Barcelona, Tottenham, QPR and even more top flight teams.

    Gazza’s ostrich story with Venables
Paul Gascoigne was once able to get out of a telling-off from Terry Venables thanks to an Ostrich in a Tottenham shirt.
Paul Stewart recalled the story after Steve Sedgley, nicknamed “long neck”, joined the club.
In an extract with The Chronicle, he said: “One day, whilst Venners was taking training, all the players were on the pitch in a circle around the halfway line. Gazza was late.
As always, the boss was asking me where he was, like I was his minder. Just as I was about to make an excuse, Gazza turned up with someone alongside him, carrying a brown sack. The sack was moving as if something was in it.
“And just as Venners was about to rollick Gazza for being late, the bag opened and an ostrich ran out wearing a Spurs shirt. There was a number seven and Sedgley written on the back. The lads just fell about laughing.
“Everyone, the kids, the training staff, the apprentices, stood open-mouthed or in hysterics. Venables’ face was a picture. The bird went running off in a panic and he had some job getting it back.
“I am not too sure what the animal rights people would say if they knew that Gazza had a bird from the local zoo dressed in a Spurs shirt loose on the training ground. He claimed that he had ‘borrowed’ it from Broxbourne Zoo. We were never able to verify if that was the case.”
