So who better to quiz The Special One than a London-born boy done good?
Jose, 58, is now at Roma after leaving Spurs.
They parted company on April 19, just six days before Tottenham faced Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
Speaking on Zoom, James, 42, got Jose chatting about his vast collection of titles across Europe – and the Portuguese revealed he includes an extra half trophy for the final he was denied from taking charge of.
Instead, interim boss Ryan Mason was in the Wembley dugout for Tottenham.
City would go on to win the final thanks to Aymeric Laporte’s late glancing header.
Here’s how James and Jose discussed his trophy cabinet…
JAMES CORDEN: I feel you’ve always known when something is going to work or not in the long term. Like at Manchester United, you came to Los Angeles and we filmed something for my show. I had a feeling you thought that season would not end well.
JOSE MOURINHO: Manchester United was a situation where we won three trophies in the first season. When I met you I wanted more.

JC: I remember you saying to me, “I have no players” and I was like, “No you have this and this.” You said it wasn’t enough.
JM: I am very optimistic but I am very realistic. When we did that at Manchester United by winning the Europa League, and the domestic cup, I felt for the next step it would not be enough.
This season, people were saying, “Great season, you finished second.” I’d say, “We finished second. It’s a bad season.”
JC: Why is finishing second a bad season?
JM: I like Manchester United, the fans were amazing with me. And I think it is good for them that another season without trophies is seen as positive.
But with me the level of expectation coming from the media is completely different.
JC: But some of that pressure you bring on yourself. In press conferences you’ll say things like, “Three, three!”

    JC: What is the half?
JM: The half is the final I didn’t play with Tottenham.
I’ve won 25 and a half trophies… the half is the final I didn’t play with Spurs.
JC: Were you disappointed you didn’t get to manage?
JM: Of course. To have a chance to win a trophy with a club that doesn’t have many, that was a dream.
JC: Did you ever say, “Let me manage the final, win the trophy and I will leave?”
JM: It is not for me to make that decision.

What is the Europa Conference League, and who will qualify from Premier League on final day?

THERE’s a new Uefa competition on the block from next season – the Europa Conference League. Here’s all you need to know about the tournament, which will see one English team take part.

What is the Europa Conference League?
The Europa Conference League is Uefa’s new third tier European competition.
The idea is to give more clubs from more countries the chance to play European football.
Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: “The new UEFA club competition makes UEFA’s club competitions more inclusive than ever before.
“There will be more matches for more clubs, with more associations represented in the group stages.”
Like the Champions League and Europa League, the competition will consist of a group and knockout stage.

Which English teams qualify for the Europa Conference League?
England has been granted one Europa Conference League place.
Originally, the slot was to be allocated to the side winning the Carabao Cup – provided they finished outside of the Premier League top-six.
But after Manchester City won the trophy, the Conference League spot will instead go to the team that finishes seventh in the Premier League.
All other Premier League European spots are unchanged, with the top 4 entering the Champions League and fifth and sixth being granted Europa League spots.
Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin says the Europa Conference League will give more clubs than ever before the chance to play in EuropeCredit: EPA
Which other teams qualify for the Europa Conference League?
The 2021-22 European season will involve a slimmed down Europa League with more teams entering the Conference League.
Just 57 teams will compete in the Europa League compared to 184 in the Europa Conference League.
While the champions of every country will get the chance to qualify for the Champions League, all other teams from countries ranked below 15th in the Uefa Coefficients will enter the Europa Conference League rather than the Europa League.
Teams eliminated from the Champions League preliminary round and first qualifying rounds will also go to the Conference League, as well as those eliminated from the Europa League third qualifying round, play-off round and third place finishers in the group stage.

How will the Europa League change?
The Europa League group stage will be reduced to 32 teams from the current 48.
Group winners will now advance to the last 16 of the tournament while runners-up will have to play a preliminary knockout stage against the third placed Champions League teams.
Does the winner of the Europa Conference League qualify for any other tournaments?
The Europa Conference League winner will qualify for the following season’s Europa League. More

Everton’s European football hopes boosted by Man City’s Carabao Cup win with seventh place securing Europa Conference

EVERTON have seen their chances of European football handed a boost – thanks to Manchester City’s Carabao Cup victory.City’s 1-0 Wembley win over Spurs on Sunday means the spot for next season’s inaugural Europa Conference League will now go to a Premier League side and seventh place will clinch it.

Manchester City’s Carabao Cup win has opened the door for the 7th placed finishersCredit: Rex
Currently, Everton are eighth, one point behind Spurs with a game in hand.
Tottenham would have been handed an automatic place into the new tournament had they beaten City at Wembley.
Fifth place in the top-flight always comes with a Europa League spot while the Euro place for an FA Cup triumph will now go to sixth place because finalists Chelsea and Leicester look certain to have already qualified.
So seventh place now becomes more important even though the new Europa Conference may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
The English team will have to win a two-legged play-off in August before entering the group stages of a tournament which will have representation of three clubs each from Wales, Northern Ireland, Moldova and Armenia.
There will be eight groups of four. And this stage will even include teams who were knocked out of the Europa League play-off.
FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN SIGN UP OFFERS HERE

The final will be staged in Tirana, Albania on May 25, 2022.
The first round of qualifying will be on July 8 – three days before the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.
The competition will have no impact on the Champions League but the Europa League group stage will be reduced from 48 to 32 teams.

Ryan Mason hails ‘true professional’ Harry Kane after Tottenham’s Carabao Cup defeat as he dodges transfer question

RYAN MASON refused to discuss Harry Kane’s Tottenham future after their Carabao Cup final defeat.Spurs fans fear another season without a trophy will increase the chances of striker Kane quitting the club in the summer.
Harry Kane’s future has been the subject of much speculationCredit: Reuters
Ryan Mason brushed over talk of a Kane exit after the Carabao Cup defeatCredit: AP
But when asked what the future holds for his England captain, interim boss Mason simply replied: “He’s got training this week and will be preparing for a very important match this weekend.
“Harry’s a true professional and that’s about it.”
Mason also insisted Kane was fit to start, despite a lacklustre display on his return from an ankle injury.
He said: “He’s fit. There were no problems with him whatsoever. He took a couple of hits in the game but his ankle is fine.”
Now Mason — placed in charge of Tottenham for the rest of the season — has called on his stars to make up for their Wembley heartache by snatching a European spot.
Spurs face Sheffield United at home on Sunday and Mason said: “Leading up to the final, all of our focus was on this.
“My players gave their all and I cannot fault their commitment.
“But we’ve lost and it’s hard to take but now we have to overcome it, accept it and move on.

“Sunday’s match is massive now. We could still qualify for Europe.”
Wth five games to go, Tottenham sit seventh but Everton, a point behind, have a game in hand.

It was also City’s record-equalling eighth triumph in the competition and their fourth in a row to match Liverpool’s feat of 81-84.
Guardiola, whose side can seal the club’s seventh title next Sunday, said: “To win this cup four times in a row is amazing in this period in lockdown with everyone suffering.
“It was more than well deserved and it was good for us to share it with our people.
“There was some good noise inside the stadium and we did it for them.
“We went out to play at an incredible level, with incredible quality.”
Laporte may have got the winner but it was Riyad Mahrez who took the official player of the match award.
City are also just three games away from a possible first Champions League triumph.
Asked about his trophy haul, the Spaniard added: “It is good. I was at big clubs Barcelona, Bayern and here, so that is why it was easy to do it.”

It was a good day all round for City after  United’s failure to beat Leeds earlier in the afternoon put them within two wins of reclaiming the Premier League crown.
City face a European semi-final double header against Paris Saint- Germain with a trip to Crystal Palace in the  middle on Saturday.
If City win at Selhurst Park and United lose to out-going champions  Liverpool on Sunday then Guardiola will claim a third title in four years.
But Guardiola insisted he never had any thoughts of going easy in order to prioritise the other two competitions.
He said: “We cannot deny one eye is always on the Champions League — but we take every game seriously, otherwise it is impossible to win four Carabao Cups in a row.
“We won the first one, we are close to a second one and we go to Paris for another one.
“After that, we are two games away from winning the most important title, the Premier League.”

We’ll leave you with Dave Kidd’s match report from Wembley so you can relive Laporte’s late winner and City’s success.
    Goodnight.

    RYAN’S REACTION
Spurs interim boss Ryan Mason has also spoken about his pride at the effort put in by his players this afternoon, also insisting that Aymeric Laporte’s fouls in the first half are not the talking point.
[Manchester City] are a great side, an incredible team, but I think our group of players gave everything with what they have had to deal with in the last seven days. That is something to be proud of. I am very disappointed with the result, but I cannot fault the lads’ effort and commitment today.Ryan MasonSky Sports

Today we are incredibly happy to win four in a row in this competition, but in the last 33 games, we’ve won 30 and this is amazing. Premier League clubs and players will take part in a social media blackout next weekend in the continued fight against racism, but Aymeric Laporte has wasted no time in taking to Twitter this evening to celebrate City’s cup success.

    KANE UNDER A CLOUD
So much of the build-up to this final was centred around Harry Kane’s availability.
Whether fully fit or not, the Tottenham striker got the nod for selection but failed to either register a shot or create a chance for the first time in two and a half years.

    STAT’S ALL FOLKS
The big numbers from the big final…

    FT: MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS
Eight is the number! Manchester City win the League Cup for a joint-record eighth time thanks to Aymeric Laporte’s goal eight minutes from time. Spurs will have their complaints that the matchwinner should not have even been on the pitch after twice fouling Lucas Moura in the first half, but the victory is no more than City deserved. Pep Guardiola’s team were dominant from the off, creative on the ball and lacked only a killer instinct in the final third.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!MANCHESTER CITY WIN THE CARABAO CUP!
    MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS
90+2. Blue Moon rings around Wembley. Who knew 2,000 people could make such a noise? How we’ve missed football fans at games.

    MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS
90+1. Brilliant footwork from Foden takes him past one, past two and into the area. His shot is blocked by Alderweireld.
    MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS
    90. Three minutes stand between Manchester City and their fourth League Cup success in a row.
    MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS
    89. Ryan Mason goes for broke by throwing on Steven Bergwijn in place of defender Serge Aurier.
    MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS
    88. Laporte is up an on the end of another set-piece, but this time he’s off target with the header.
    MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS
    86. It’s another change for City. De Bruyne departs to huge cheers from their 2,000 supporters, and is replaced by Bernardo Silva.
    MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS
    84. Despite the goal, Pep Guardiola goes ahead and makes his intended change with Fernandinho replaced by Rodrigo.
    MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS
    82. With eight minutes remaining, City have finally got their goal!
Debate will rage, not over the goal itself, but whether the scorer should even be on the pitch.
Aymeric Laporte is the man mobbed after heading in Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick at the far post, but his two earlier fouls on Lucas Moura – for which he was only cautioned once – are even harder for Spurs fans to swallow now.
The Frenchman got up above compatriot Moussa Sissoko to glance his effort into the corner despite the desperate attempt of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on the line.

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!AYMERIC LAPORTE BREAKS THE DEADLOCK!!

    MAN CITY 0-0 SPURS
    80. There may only be a couple of thousand of them, but the Spurs fans get behind their team for the final barrage.
Sterling wins a free-kick by the corner flag in front of them.
    MAN CITY 0-0 SPURS
    78. Pep Guardiola looks to be readying a change. He’s certainly got a strong bench to choose from.
    MAN CITY 0-0 SPURS
    76. Reguillon gets in behind Walker, only for the City defender – fairly or unfairly – to win the ball back.
There’s no free-kick awarded but the Tottenham left-back looks in some discomfort, and it’s Walker himself that eventually puts the ball of play so his opponent can receive treatment.

Harry Kane’s future left in limbo as Tottenham fail to prove England superstar can win trophies with them

AS Harry Kane watched Manchester City pick up another trophy you could not help but wonder what was going through his mind. This was the latest attempt for Tottenham to show their highly sought-after star striker he does not have to leave his beloved club to win medals and titles.
Harry Kane and Tottenham suffered Carabao Cup heartbreak against Man CityCredit: Reuters
But it did not quite work out like that as Spurs looked as far off the pace as ever.
And as Kane was reduced to going to ground in a bid to win free kicks and get his team-mates further forward, you fear his chances of his long-term future remaining in N17 were also taking a dive.
Chairman Daniel Levy should thank his lucky stars we are still in a global pandemic – and that a new manager is coming over the horizon.
Both are likely to mean Kane will still be at White Hart Lane next season. But after that?
Turning 28 in July, time is running out for him. There is no doubt he needs to be playing at a club at least competing in finals – which Tottenham did not do against City.
Jose Mourinho may have gone but his Spurs legacy was there for all to see.
Sacked as manager last Monday, the Special One would have undoubtedly tried to take the credit had Spurs won.
So it is only right that he shoulders some of the blame for their defeat, certainly the manner of it.

His interim replacement Ryan Mason, handed the reins until the end of the season, had vowed to get his team back to playing in the way of the best traditions of the club he had supported and played since he was a lad.
But we saw that might be easier said than done as Spurs hardly laid a glove on Manchester City in what was a very negative Mourinho-esque display.
Nobody was expecting the North Londoners to go all-out on the attack.
But their inability and, at times, sheer unwillingness to get men forward made it far too comfortable for Pep Guardiola’s men for far too long.
When the first thoughts of wonderful attacking delights like Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Kane is too retreat and play backwards, as it was in the first half, you fear Mourinho’s defensive indoctrination of Tottenham might not be so easy to erase.
Spurs were lucky City were so wasteful in front of goal. And while Mourinho would have been proud of the way his old club defended, you wonder if he could have inspired these same players to such a dogged, determined and resilient display.
The unity and team spirit reckoned to have been ripped apart during the final weeks of the Portuguese’s reign were there in abundance under the Arch.
Spurs failed to prove to Harry Kane that they can win trophiesCredit: Getty
Spurs stars were certainly playing for their rookie gaffer, albeit negatively, as Toby Alderweireld’s incredible last-ditch block to deny Phil Foden a first half goal epitomised.
It is a shame they did not show the bravery on the pitch as he did in his team selection.
Mason, at 29 the Premier League’s youngest ever manager, proved he is not afraid of making big calls as he dropped Gareth Bale and Tanguy Ndombele to the bench after Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Southampton.
Kane also started after missing that victory with an ankle injury as Mason followed the adage used by Mourinho and his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino that if the England captain is able to walk then he plays.
In fairness it was impossible to tell if Kane was 100 per cent fit or not as he was hardly given a touch.
City’s late winner would have been a dagger in his heart.
Tottenham fans everywhere will be hoping there is no serious long-term damage.
