    THANKS FOR JOINING US
That’s all from us tonight as Arsenal made it eight games unbeaten in all competitions to progress to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
After an evenly contested first half Mikel Arteta’s side flexed their muscles after the break.
Goals from Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah settled the tie, with the former scoring just 23 SECONDS after coming on as a substitute for the injured Ben White.
Marcelo Bielsa then took off Rodrigo and Kalvin Phillips as soon as the second goal went in, effectively admitting defeat.
He possible had one eye on the league, with the Whites struggling just three points and one place above the relegation zone.
Next up the Whites travel to bottom of the league Norwich, looking for just their second league win of the season.
The Gunners meanwhile have a tricky assignment away at Leicester on Saturday lunchtime in their next outing.
That’s all from us for now though.
Thanks for joining us, it’s been a pleasure.
    BIELSA’S REACTION
Here’s what Marcelo Bielsa has to say on the game: “In the first half [we] marked an intensity that we couldn’t continue in the second half.
“This way it’s difficult to win a game because they lost what they lost [in the first half.]
“When you go on missing chances it always gives the feeling to the opponent that they can alter the result themselves.”
    ARTETA ANALYSES
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta offers his full time thoughts to Sky Sports: “I think we played well, we understood the game and what we had to do against them.
“And we understood the right way.
“I think we deserved to win the game.”
    LAST SIXTEEN
Three games out of eight are settled in the Carabao Cup.
Here’s a look at how the fourth round has played out so far and what’s still to come tomorrow night.

    Arsenal 2-0 Leeds
Chelsea 1-1 Southampton (4-2 on penalties)
QPR 0-0 Sunderland (1-3 on penalties)
    Stoke vs Brentford
    West Ham vs Manchester City
    Leicester vs Brighton
    Preston vs Liverpool
    Burnley vs Tottenham

    CHAMBERS CHATS
Goalscorer Calum Chambers on the half time message from Mikel Arteta: “We adjusted a few things tactically but it was always going to be tough against Leeds.
“They’re a very unique team in the way they play so you’ve got to be on it, you’ve got to be an it and we knew that going into the game.
“I think we stood up to the test and we came out with the win so it’s a good result at the end of the day.”
    POST MATCH REACTION
Here’s what Eddie Nketiah has to say about the game: “Yeah it’s always nice to obviously play, it’s been a while so I’ve been working hard, waiting for my opportunities so I was confident and ready that I could help the team.
“It’s always nice to score against an old team but the most important thing was to get through to the next round which we did.”
    QUARTER-FINAL DRAW
The draw for the last eight does not take place until Saturday morning and will be broadcasted live on Soccer AM.
But it will be another 24 hours until we find out who the other five teams in the hat for the next round are.
    FULL TIME SCORES
Both of the games that went to penalties have now been decided.
And the first three of the Carabao Cup last eight have been decided

    Arsenal 2-0 Leeds
Chelsea 1-1 Southampton (4-2 on penalties)
QPR 0-0 Sunderland (1-3 on penalties)

    UP FOR THE CUP
Eddie Nketiah continued his incredible League Cup record tonight.
The 22-year-old now has seven goals in eight games in the competition, including two while on loan at Leeds.

    AROUND THE GROUNDS
Arsenal are the only team tonight to get the business done inside the 90 minutes.
Chelsea vs Southampton has gone to penalties after a 1-1 draw.
And so has QPR vs Sunderland, with that one goalless after 90 minutes.
    STAT ATTACK
Here’s a look at the full time stats from the Emirates.
Both sides had 14 shots overall, with Leeds managing five on target to Arsenal’s four.

    FT: ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
Goals from Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah seal Arsenal’s passage through to the last eight of the Carabao Cup.
The former scored just 23 seconds after coming on, while Nketiah effectively settled the game with 20 minutes to play.
On the whole it was probably the right result.
After a promising first half the visitors dropped right off the boil in the second and were poor after the break.
Mikel Arteta has a beaming smile on his face.
His side make it eight games unbeaten in all competitions.
    PEEEEEEEP!
    THAT’S FULL TIME!
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS!
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    92. As they have been for some time, both teams are just waiting for the final whistle here.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    91. Drameh does well and slides the ball into the path of Summerville on the right hand side of the Arsenal box.
The Leeds sub loses his footing at the vital moment though and the ball runs out for a goal kick to the home side.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    90. Four minutes of added time are signalled by the fourth official.
Arsenal are all but into the last eight.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    89. CHANCE!
    Lacazette nearly makes it three!
He robs Phillips high up the pitch and bears down on goal.
The Frenchman is tackled on the edge of the box but the ball ricochets kindly for him.
He takes aim from 18 yards and sends an effort whistling inches over the bar.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    88. Summerville tries to work something down the right but the ball ends up tricking harmlessly out for an Arsenal goal kick.
Two minutes of the 90 left to play.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    86. Lokonga tries to release Pepe on the right hand side but Cooper is there to mop things up for the visitors.
He plays it back to Meslier instead of looking forward.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side aren’t really playing with much urgency despite being behind.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    84. Summerville trips Lokonga in the middle of the park after the Arsenal man had breezed past him.
Just over five minutes left to go at the Emirates now.
A Leeds goal sets up a grandstand finish, but it’s not really looking likely.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    83. Again a foray into Arsenal territory is wasted.
This time the visitors manage to work the ball into the Gunners’ box.
Summerville crosses in from the right but it’s a tame delivery straight into the arms of Leno.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    82. Leeds enter the final third for what seems like the first time in ages.
But the chance is almost immediately wasted.
Harrison crosses into the box but puts far too much on it and sends it straight out for a goal kick.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    81. Nketiah is down after a taking a clattering from Phillips.
It’s an Arsenal free kick midway inside the Leeds half.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    80. The game has really dropped in tempo now.
Both sides seem content to play this one out 2-0, despite there still being ten minutes left to play.
    ARSENAL 2-0 LEEDS
    78. The visitors just haven’t quite got going in the second half.
After testing Leno a couple of times in the first 45 minutes, they haven’t threatened at all since the break.

Arsenal ratings: Leno keeps Ramsdale on his toes with excellent showing as Elneny struggles vs Leeds in Carabao Cup win

ARSENAL beat Leeds 2-0 at the Emirates to progress to the last eight of the Carabao Cup.Bernd Leno was solid between the sticks and showed competition for the No 1 spot is high, but Mohamed Elneny proved he is not the answer to Arsenal’s central midfield problem while Granit Xhaka is out injured.

But Mohamed Elneny proved he is not the answer to Arsenal’s central midfield conundrum while Granit Xhaka is out injuredCredit: Reuters
Arsenal were the better team in the early stages as Leeds took a while to wake up with the Gunners pressing high and looking most likely to score.
But the visitors grew into it as the half wore on and forced a couple of decent saves out of the excellent Leno with Dan James and Jack Harrison coming the closest.
The teams went in 0-0 at the break but Arsenal came out for the second-half re-invigorated and were ahead within 10 minutes of the restart.
Andre Marriner needed his techno-watch to tell him Calum Chambers’ header had gone over the line just seconds after the defender had replaced the injured Ben White.
And Eddie Nketiah scored against the team where he was hardly given a chance on loan to wrap up the win on 69 minutes.
Here’s what SunSport’s William Pugh thought of the Gunners’ individual performances.

    BERND LENO – 9/10
Stood up well to thwart Dan James as the former Manchester United star was played through over the top shortly before the 20 minute mark.
Superb near-post save from Jack Harrison’s back-post volley on 26 minutes.
Kept Arsenal in the game and proved he’s breathing down Ramsdale’s neck for the No 1 spot which can only be good for Mikel Arteta.
Bernd Leno showed why he was Arsenal’s No 1 for so long with an excellent display between the sticksCredit: Reuters
    CEDRIC SOARES – 8
Vital interception on the half-hour mark after Elneny’s poor touch set Leeds away on a dangerous looking attack.
Came flying out the blocks in the second half and offered plenty going forward down the right flank.
Booked for a cynical pull back on Stuart Dallas as Leeds broke on 58 minutes. Excellent display.
ROB HOLDING (subbed off 76 mins)- 7
Some encouraging ball carries out from the back worried Leeds and helped break through their midfield and pull players out of position.
Also did what he had to when called upon at the back.
    BEN WHITE (subbed 55 mins) – 7
Wasn’t called upon to defend until about quarter of an hour in but he stood up to the test as Leeds tried to break into the box down the right.
Driving run out the heart of defence on 21 minutes saw Tyler Roberts tug him back and get booked.
Solid performance until he went down injured and was subbed just before the hour mark.

    SEAD KOLASINAC – 6
His vicious shot at the near post 10 minutes in nearly squeezed through Meslier’s legs but it cannoned out for a corner.
Earned his money and was solid at the back.
MOHAMED ELNENY (subbed off 72 mins) – 5
Couple of decisive interceptions on the rare occasion Leeds attacked in the early stages.
But became sloppy in possession on a couple of occasions which allowed Leeds to break.
    Understandably subbed.
    AINSLEY MAITLAND-NILES – 7
Marshalled well at the base of midfield and made some well-timed bursting runs forward to join attacks when called upon.
Thwarted James as he broke down the right and Leeds threatened after 25 minutes.
Showed he can do it in midfield.
    NICOLAS PEPE – 6
Willing runner in the early stages.
Looked set to be another average showing from the £72million man.
But hovered at the back post to head the ball back into the six-yard box for Chambers to open the scoring.

EMILE SMITH ROWE (subbed off 72 mins) – 5
Quiet showing compared to some of his recent Man-of-the-Match performances.
Should have done better with a chance from the edge of the box towards the end of the first half. The ball bounced of Pepe and into his path but he blazed it over with his left.

    GABRIEL MARTINELLI – 6
Arsenal fans were delighted to see the Brazilian included from the start and his early showing proved why.
Pressed high and aggressively in the first half and looked dangerous when he got on the ball and tried to make things happen.
Pathetic attempt to get Cody Drameh sent off after the right-back’s arm brushed his cheek towards the end of the first half. Went down clutching his face but it rightfully came to nothing.
Lots of pace and promise but almost no end product.
Gabriel Martinelli showed flashes of energy after Gunners fans were delighted to see back in the starting XICredit: Getty
    EDDIE NKETIAH – 7
High energy start and got on the ball regularly as the home side put the pressure on early.
Capitalised on Liam Cooper’s awful back header to scoop the ball over Meslier and just about tuck it over the line from two yards out on 69 minutes.
Will have liked scoring against Leeds where he hardly got a chance when on loan there.

CALUM CHAMBERS (replaced White) – 8
    What an impact!
He had barely been on for two minutes when he headed Pepe’s cushioned header over the line.
    Scored with his first touch.
NUNO TAVARES (replaced Holding) – 6
Not enough time to make a huge impact but solid when called upon.
ALBERT SAMBI LOKONGA (replaced Elneny) – 6
Helped see the game out well.
ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE (replaced Smith Rowe) – 6
Injected energy and should have done better with a right-footed effort he blazed over at the death.

How Chelsea could line-up against Southampton in Carabao Cup with N’Golo Kante returning after muscle tightness

CHELSEA will be looking for a fifth consecutive victory in all competitions when they host Southampton in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.Thomas Tuchel’s side will be bouncing following their 7-0 victory over Norwich at the weekend as they retained their position at the top of the Premier League table.
How we believe Chelsea will line up against Southampton
And while the German coach is expected to make several changes to that team for the midweek clash with Saints, a major positive is set to be the return of midfielder N’Golo Kante.
When asked after the Norwich win about the Frenchman’s fitness, Tuchel said: “It was simply one day too early.
“If the match [Norwich] would have been on Sunday he would have played. So he is fully available for Tuesday and for Newcastle.”
A number of other players could be given an opportunity to prove themselves to the Chelsea boss as he looks to manage his squad through the various competitions.
Marcos Alonso will be hoping to make a case for himself after being ousted from the first team by the free-scoring Ben Chilwell.
Trevoh Chalobah could keep his place but Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva will likely be rested to give Malang Sarr an opportunity.

Another way Tuchel may look to set up against Saints
And then it is a matter of whether Tuchel decides to go with a three or four at the back.
He could stick with his tried and tested 3-4-2-1 and bring Cesar Azpilicueta into the middle of defence, with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Alonso down the flanks.
Or he could choose to do what he did in the last round of the Carabao Cup against Aston Villa and switch to a 4-3-3.
That would mean packing the midfield with Kante alongside potentially Saul Niguez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Then you could push Hudson-Odoi into the front three where Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz look set to start.

The formation Tuchel goes with may impact whether Mason Mount starts the game. If he plays a back three then there is more chance the England international will feature from the off.
Mount will be brimming with confidence after netting a hat-trick against Norwich at the weekend.
Chelsea have already faced Southampton at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League earlier this month, winning 3-1 in a hard-fought game that turned in their favour when James Ward-Prowse was sent off. More

Solskjaer hints Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to play Man Utd’s Carabao Cup clash vs West Ham and reveals secret friendlies

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted Cristiano Ronaldo WANTED to play against West Ham on Wednesday. The 36-year-old scored on Sunday when the two sides met at the London Stadium, helping United to a 2-1 victory.

But Ronaldo was rested for the Carabao Cup third round fixture at Old Trafford.
And Manuel Lanzini’s first half strike knocked the Red Devils out of the competition, leaving Solskjaer’s side chasing silverware in just three competitions: the Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup.
Solskjaer has revealed that Ronaldo wanted to play against West Ham, but the boss felt it wasn’t ‘possible’.
The Norwegian told Sky Sports: ” We decided more or less before Sunday [to make changes].
“We need more players to get match fit. Alex Telles is back and has been training for a week. It will be a long season.
“Cristiano has come in and made a difference already, he wants to play as much as possible but I don’t think it is possible.

“If you are going to be successful at the end, you need the whole squad and minutes to be shared out.”
Solksjaer also revealed that the Red Devils have played some games behind closed doors in the hope his team find their rhythm.
He added: “A risk making so many changes but we have played some games behind closed doors and hopefully we find the rhythm.”
Ronaldo is keen to win silverware with United once again, but he believes the team needs to build up a winning mentality.
He told MUTV: “As I told you before, we have huge potential.
“We have fantastic players, a good coach, a good team. We need to build up the mentality to win the Premier League and even the Champions League.
“So I am here to help the team. I think we have the 11 that are playing and those on the bench that can help as well.
“We have a good team, as I told you, and the spirit is there.”

Up next for the Red Devils is Dean Smith’s new look, Jack Grealish-less Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Villans are coming off the back of an impressive 3-0 win over Everton.
Ronaldo will almost certainly come back into Solskjaer’s starting XI as he looks to score for the fourth game in a row.

Solskjaer equals run of form that saw Moyes SACKED as ex-Man Utd manager piles pressure on boss in West Ham defeat

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has equalled the run of form that saw David Moyes SACKED as Manchester United boss. The current man in the hotseat lost to the Chosen One’s West Ham on Wednesday night as the Red Devils crashed out of the Carabao Cup thanks to Manuel Lanzini’s finish.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has won just five of his last ten games in charge
The current Old Trafford boss was beaten by David Moyes on Wednesday nightCredit: Reuters
United have now won just five of their last ten matches in all competitions – enough for the board to wield the axe and get rid of Moyes back in 2014.
The current streak includes Premier League victories over West Ham, Newcastle, Wolves and Leeds this season – as well as Wolves in the final game of last term.
But they drew with Fulham back in May, then lost the Europa League final on penalties to Villarreal.
This term they had a stalemate with Southampton and suffered shock cup losses to Young Boys and now West Ham to jeopardise their hopes of silverware in the New Year.
And ironically, the latest flop result came with Moyes in the away dugout last night as he piled the pressure on the Norwegian.
Compared to three draws and two defeats from Solskjaer’s last ten games, Moyes had four losses and a draw.
JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET A FREE £10 BONUS WITH 100s OF GAMES TO PLAY AND NO DEPOSIT REQUIRED (Ts&Cs apply)

Those costly defeats – between March and April 2014 – came in crunch clashes with Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and his former club Everton.
The draw was the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final with Bayern.
Louis van Gaal, meanwhile, won an impressive seven of his last ten games – including the FA Cup final – but it was not enough to keep his job in May 2016.
United are back in Premier League action on Saturday as they host Aston Villa at 12.30pm knowing they can go top of the league by bettering Chelsea’s result against City in the other early kick-off.
The Red Devils game has been brought forward due to The Courteeners playing at the Old Trafford cricket ground down the road that evening.
But Solskjaer is confident his stars will be singing from the same hymn sheet with a strong performance at the weekend.

He said: “We’ve got lots of games and we’ll just keep on doing what we’re doing and trying to get results.
“We’ve started the season OK, apart from we’re out of this cup which is not great, and we haven’t had a great result away in Europe.
“But we’ll be focused, we’ll be ready for Saturday.”
