As things stand, Carabao Cup clashes will be going ahead, as teams look to avoid a fixture pile-up in 2022.
What time does Brentford vs Chelsea kick-off?

Chelsea’s clash with Brentford will get underway from 7.45pm UK time on Wednesday, December 22.
The game will take place at the Brentford Community Stadium in London.
At this moment, the game is still set to go ahead and fans will attend, despite rising coronavirus cases in the EFL and Premier League.

What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

Unfortunately for viewers in the UK, Brentford vs Chelsea will NOT be shown on TV.
The game is on at the same time as other EFL Carabao Cup games Liverpool vs Leicester and Tottenham vs West Ham.
And it’s Spurs’ clash with the Hammers that has been chosen for Sky Sports coverage.

    Team news
Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Jorginho and Callum Hudson-Odoi are all out of the clash as they have tested positive for coronavirus.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek could miss the game too as he has a knock, while Kai Havertz is out with an illness of his own.
Trevor Chalobah limped off in the clash against Wolves at the weekend and also isn’t likely to be available.
Brentford will still be without Ivan Toney, but it’s unclear how many positive coronavirus cases there are among their squad.

How Arsenal could line up against Sunderland with Smith Rowe and Pepe playing in strong Carabao Cup team

ARSENAL welcome League One Sunderland to the Emirates on Tuesday night in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. The tournament offers Mikel Arteta and Co a real chance of silverware this season, and as a result the Spaniard is likely to field a strong side.

Both Pepe and Smith Rowe are expected to startCredit: Getty
Inevitably there will be some changes, but not having had European football means the Gunners can afford to play some of the big guns for the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Sunderland also come into the game in good form, currently sitting third in League One, so will be no walkovers.
Black Cats boss Lee Johnson got his wish of drawing Arsenal away, with over 5,000 travelling fans expected in the capital.
Cup keeper Bernd Leno is primed to start in goal, giving Aaron Ramsdale a well-deserved night off.
And Arteta could also opt for two fresh faces at full-back, with Cedric Soares coming in for Takehiro Tomiyasu on the right and Nuno Tavares in for Kieran Tierney on the left.
In the heart of defence Ben White could once again be handed a Carabao Cup start, as he was against Leeds in the last-sixteen.

But instead of regular partner Gabriel he may play alongside Rob Holding.
Albert Sambi-Lokonga is out with Covid-19, meaning Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Mohamed Elneny are likely to start in the middle of the park.
Emile Smith Rowe is anticipated to be in the starting line-up after two goals as a substitute in his last two Premier League outings.
And Emirates outcast Nicolas Pepe is expected to come in on the right flank in place of Bukayo Saka, in what could be one of his final games in an Arsenal shirt.
The Gunners are reportedly willing to let the £72m flop leave in January.
On the left Gabriel Martinelli’s stunning recent form means he could be once again trusted from the start.
And if Arteta wants experience up front then Alexandre Lacazette may be given another starting berth, along with the captain’s armband.
Alternatively, Arteta could opt to place his trust in his youngsters and field a front two of Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun.
    Alternative Arsenal line-up vs Sunderland
Calum Chambers could also get the nod at the back if Arteta decides to name an entirely new back-line.
Chambers was on the scoresheet in the last round against Leeds within seconds of coming on as a sub.
Other than that though Arteta is expected to go with a blend of youth and experience as he looks to book a spot in the semi-finals of the competition.
Pabo Mari will miss out after testing positive for Covid-19, while Sead Kolasinac remains sidelined with an ankle problem.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also unlikely to feature again after being stripped as Arsenal captain following a disciplinary breach.

Where Tottenham’s 2007/08 League Cup winning XI are now as Spurs chase first trophy under Antonio Conte

TOTTENHAM’S wait for a piece of silverware has now stretched to 13 YEARS.In 2008, Juande Ramos led Spurs to the League Cup thanks to a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Wembley.
This is the Tottenham starting XI that won the League Cup in 2008, 13 years ago
The Spurs players celebrate their 2-1 win over London rivals Chelsea at WembleyCredit: AFP
Didier Drogba put the Blues in front with a free-kick before Dimitar Berbatov’s penalty sent the game into extra-time.
Jonathan Woodgate grabbed the winner when Petr Cech punched the ball in from Jermaine Jenas’ free-kick into the defender’s head and it rebounded in.
Harry Redknapp, Andre Villas-Boas, Tim Sherwood, Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo all came and went without a trophy.
But what happened to the Tottenham team that beat Avram Grant’s side?
    GK: Paul Robinson
The former England goalkeeper won his only major trophy that day at Wembley, the year after the last of his 41 England caps.
He had seven seasons at Blackburn before a two-year, three-appearance spell at Burnley then retired in 2017 and is now doing media work.

    RB: Alan Hutton
The Scottish right-back joined Aston Villa in 2011 but had loans to Nottingham Forest, Mallorca and Bolton.
He played in the 2015 FA Cup final and scored a memorable goal against rivals Birmingham in 2018 before hanging up his boots a year ago to step into media, too.
    CB: Jonathan Woodgate
Match-winner Woodgate left Spurs in 2011 to join Stoke before returning to Middlesbrough a year later.
He ended his playing career in 2016 and, after a brief stint as a scout for Liverpool, went into coaching – he took over as Boro manager in 2019 and had a spell in charge of Bournemouth, too.
    CB: Ledley King
Ramos’ skipper that day had his career blighted by injuries and retired as a one-club man in 2012.
He joined Jose Mourinho’s backroom staff last summer and is trying to help the club end their long wait.

    LB: Pascal Chimbonda
The one-cap French full-back left Spurs that summer for Sunderland but returned to White Hart Lane in 2009 for a short stint.
He then had spells at eight clubs in ten years – including QPR and Doncaster as well as non-league Market Draydon Town and Ashton Town – before stopping in 2019.
    RM: Aaron Lennon
One of the two members of that team still actively playing professional football is Lennon.
He had ten seasons at the Lane before joining Everton in 2015, Burnley in 2017 and is back at Turf Moor aged 34 after a spell in Turkey.
    CM: Jermaine Jenas
Like Hutton, Jenas headed to Villa Park, albeit on loan, in 2011 before a temporary spell at hometown club Nottingham Forest.
He ended his injury-hit career with the 2013-14 season at QPR before stepping into punditry with BT Sport and Match of the Day – and may even be lined up to replace Gary Lineker as host one day.

    CM: Didier Zakora
Zakora spent one more season at Tottenham before joining Sevilla for two years.
After that Ivory Coast’s most-capped player had spells in Turkey, India and Indonesia and is now assistant boss at AFAD Djekanou in his homeland.
    LM: Steed Malbranque
Malbranque spent a decade in England, with his time at Tottenham sandwiched between Fulham and Sunderland.
Like Lennon, he is still active at FC Limonest Saint-Didier in France at the tender age of 41.

    ST: Robbie Keane
Keane enjoyed a glittering career which also included spells at Inter Milan, Leeds, Liverpool and Celtic before five years at LA Galaxy and finally with ATK in Kolkata.
A 146-cap Irish legend, he had spells as an assistant manager with Ireland and Middlesbrough, working under team-mate Woodgate.
    ST: Dimitar Berbatov
Arguably the best player of that Spurs XI was Berbatov, who went on to win two league titles, another League Cup and the Club World Cup with Manchester United.
The two-time Premier League golden-boot winner featured for Fulham, Monaco, PAOK and Kerela Blasters until his retirement in 2019 – the Bulgarian is now working towards to get his Uefa Pro coaching licence.
    Manager: Juande Ramos
Ramos was sacked just eight months later with a win ratio in the league of 29 per cent.
Harry Redknapp replaced him while he managed to land the Real Madrid job before stints at CSKA Moscow, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Malaga.
He has been out of work since he resigned from Malaga in 2016.
Younes Kaboul, Teemu Tainio and Tom Huddlestone came off the bench for Spurs that day while Radek Cerny and Darren Bent were unused subs.

    LET’S SMASH THEM’
Sunderland manager Lee Johnson may be having a little chuckle to himself after drawing Arsenal away in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
The Black Cats beat Championship QPR in the previous round and after the match Johnson wound up Gunners supporters.
Asked who he wanted to face in the quarter-final, Johnson said: “I’d love to have Arsenal away or Tottenham away.”
Many Arsenal fans are looking forward to taking on the Black Cats and are confident about beating the League One side.
One Gunner wrote on Twitter: “You got your wish big man. Arsenal let’s smash them please.
Another added: “Lee Johnson wanted an easy draw like Arsenal. Now he’s got it. Pre-match team talk done. Thank you Lee.”
    NO CUP FUSS
Sunderland legend Michael Gray isn’t fussed about his side’s great run in the Carabao Cup.
The Black Cats have been drawn against Arsenal in the competition’s quarter-finals, but Gray is more worried about the club gaining promotion from League One, as he reckons they’ve been in the division for far too long.
He said: “We went through [to the quarter-finals], which is great, we went through on penalties, but I wasn’t really bothered.
I am not too fussed about that at the moment.
“We’ve been in League One too long, we need to get ourselves out of League One, we’re in a decent position at the moment and I know some sides are probably thinking it’s momentum, it’s confidence.”
    GUNNING FOR GLORY
Arsenal will host Sunderland in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
The Black Cats are the lowest-ranked team left in the competition – and the only club not in the Premier League of the last eight.
Arsenal overcame Leeds in a comfortable 2-0 win on Tuesday to progress to the quarter-finals.
And though Mikel Arteta will fancy his chances against Sunderland, manager Lee Johnson will not make it easy for the Gunners.

    GO FOR IT
Arsenal legend Paul Merson reckons David Moyes and West Ham will never have a better opportunity of lifting the Carabao Cup.
The Hammers have knocked out both Manchester City and United and Merson believes they have to capitalise on that.
Although some people don’t think the League Cup means much, Merson thinks it would look on West Ham’s CV as they haven’t won a trophy in decades.
Plus Moyes hasn’t lifted a trophy for a while either, and Merson reckons the cup will be huge for him also.
Merson said: “West Ham haven’t won a trophy since 1980!” he wrote. “You’ve got to have a go now.
“It’s almost a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some of these teams. No City in a competition they’ve dominated for so long – it was getting very predictable.
“People say it’s not an important competition. But come the final, everybody wants to be walking out at Wembley in it. What has David Moyes won? A Community Shield? This is a massive opportunity for him to finally put a big trophy on his CV.
“You’ve just knocked out both Manchester clubs, why wouldn’t you go for it now?”
    FINAL COUNTDOWN
We’re about 25/30 minutes away from the draw – how excited are you feeling?
For those that don’t know, it will take place on Soccer AM on Sky Sports, which is better than some recent draw locations such as the bowls club they used last time.
    IN IT TO WIN IT
Brentford boss Thomas Frank reckons his side can go all the way in the Carabao Cup.
They made the quarter-finals after seeing off Stoke in the last round and thinks Brentford call pull off a major coup despite all the bigger Prem clubs still in the competition.
An optimistic Frank said: “I just know one thing. We would like to do as well as possible in the League Cup.
“We’re now in the quarter-finals, why not try to win it? There are some massive clubs there but we’ll do our very best.”
    FOURTH ROUND RESULTS
Cup holders Manchester City’s were dumped out of the competition by West Ham who defeated Pep Guardiola’s side on penalties at the London Stadium, ending their four-year reign.
Chelsea also skipped into the quarter-finals on penalties against Southampton.
Arsenal, who are now unbeaten in eight games, swept Leeds aside to secure their place in the last-eight.
Sunderland joined the pen-fest by edging QPR in a tense spot-kick shoot-out.
Prem giants Liverpool and Tottenham saw off Preston and Burnley respectively.
While Brentford made also made it through by seeing off a resilient Stoke side. while.
Last but not least, Leicester made sure they also left it to the last minute to qualify for the quarter-finals and beat Brighton on penalties following an enthralling 90 minutes.

TIME FOR A CUP OF TEA
Hello, good morning and welcome to SunSport’s live blog coverage of the Carabao Cup draw.
In-keeping with the competition’s habit of hosting the draw from weird and wonderful places around the world, today’s takes place on Soccer AM.
John Fendley and Jimmy Bullard are expected to draw the balls for this year’s last eight which take place in December.
Premier League big boys Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham are expecting to learn their fates today.
West Ham, Leicester, Brentford and former Prem mainstays Sunderland are also in the pot.
The Black Cats will be hoping to draw one of the big boys after playing recent seasons in League One.

Carabao Cup quarter-final draw simulated with Chelsea landing Tottenham and Arsenal facing Sunderland after Johnson jibe

THE DRAW for the Carabao Cup quarter-finals will take place on Saturday – and SunSport’s simulated one in preparation threw up some bumper ties.Arsenal, Chelsea and Sunderland all booked their spot in the last eight on Tuesday.
A new name will be on the Carabao Cup after Pep Guardiola’s Man City were knocked outCredit: Reuters
The Gunners romped past Leeds while the Blues and Black Cats both needed penalties to advance past Southampton and QPR respectively.
A day later they were joined by Brentford, Tottenham, West Ham, Liverpool and Leicester City.
It was the Hammers who ensured that a new name will be on the trophy for the first time since 2017 after they dumped holders Manchester City out.
That left all eight dreaming of cup glory, but each club still has plenty of work to do before they can even think of Wembley.
And they will all have to wait until Soccer AM airs on Sky Sports for the 10.30am Carabao Cup draw to discover who they will play in the week commencing December 20.
There will be no seeding – meaning anyone can draw anyone – and that means that the prospect of some blockbuster clashes is very real.

In anticipation of it, SunSport used a knockout stage simulator to take a look at what the potential ties could be.
    And the results were brilliant:
    ARSENAL VS SUNDERLAND
The first one out of our pretend hat was Arsenal landing a home tie against League One Sunderland.
And you can bet the Gunners would not only fancy their chances of advancing but of silencing Black Cats boss Lee Johnson aswell.
Johnson poked fun at Arsenal and Tottenham in midweek by claiming the North London pair were not the ‘big guns’ left in the competition.
Speaking to Sunderland club reporters on who he wanted in the next round, Johnson joked: “I’d love to have Arsenal away or Tottenham away if not that. And then we’ll wait for the really big guns when it’s two legs.”
Arsenal fans quickly picked up on the comment and would be desperate to see Mikel Arteta’s men dish out a thrashing and advance to the semi.
    BRENTFORD vs WEST HAM
A London Derby that both clubs would fancy their chances of winning.
The Bees are looking to go one step further than last season’s semi-finals while David Moyes would love to follow-up on European qualification by delivering a trophy for the Hammers.
Throw in Said Benrahma returning to Brentford as well, the potential clash would certainly be a belting cup tie.
    CHELSEA vs TOTTENHAM
Another all-London showdown that would have the nation wanting to tune in.
Chelsea vs Tottenham is always a must-see and this would be no different with the added spice of a place in the last four at stake.
Spurs were beaten in last season’s final by City but if they could knock the Blues off at Stamford Bridge then they would fancy their chances of going all the way.
    LIVERPOOL vs LEICESTER
Jurgen Klopp has been giving his fringe men a chance in the competition this year and would likely do so again after they downed Preston this week.
Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has been doing the same with his team also battling in Europe as well as in the Premier League.
After guiding Leicester to the FA Cup last term, he would love nothing more than to bring more silverware to the King Power this season.
Throw in the added incentive of potentially knocking out his old club, then this showdown would also have all the makings of being a cup classic. More
