Marco Reus snubs Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski as he reveals best ever Dortmund team-mate

BORUSSIA DORTMUND star Marco Reus revealed his best ever team-mate, and it’s not a superstar like Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland or Robert Lewandowski…Reus has spent ten years at Dortmund and played with some of the biggest names in the world who have left for some of Europe’s major powerhouses after succeeding with the Die Schwarzgelben.

Sancho went to Manchester United, Haaland joined Manchester City and Lewandowski signed with Bayern Munich before leaving for Barcelona this summer.
But when it comes to his favourite ever team-mate, the winger insists no one beats Mario Gotze.
The two Germans spent a total of five years together at the Signal Iduna Park and Reus has very fond memories of Gotze’s two stints at the club.
The Eintracht Frankfurt forward left Dortmund in 2013 for Bayern and returned in 2016 until he moved to PSV Eindhoven four years later.

Reus told OMR: “When I came to Dortmund back then, Mario Gotze was the exceptional talent.
“It was incredible back then. It was amazing and everyone I spoke to raved about him.”
But Reus doesn’t forget the contribution some other former superstars made at Dortmund.
The Germany international insists the likes of Sancho, Haaland, Barcelona ace Ousmane Dembele and City star Ilkay Gundogan served the club well.

Reuss added: “We had an incredible number of good players at Dortmund.
“Jadon Sancho was and is also an incredibly good player because, combined with his dribbling, he has great timing with his passes.
“Ousmane Dembele, we always called him the ‘man without a hip’ because he can turn so quickly.
“Erling, then Ilkay. I think I forgot a few, but I think those were the ones who left their business card in the most impressive way.” More

There was more drama to come as seconds later former Sheffield United and West Brom star Oliver Burke fired in the winner just before the final whistle.

After the match Dortmund manager Edin Terzic said: “We are unfortunately talking about a deserved defeat.

“Still it’s frustrating when you are 2-0 up until the 89th minute even if you have not played well.
“It is difficult to explain it rationally. After they scored their first goal we started to shake.
“Even if our performance is not got we should be winning such matches.”
Dortmund were not at their best in the first half but led at the break thanks to Brandt’s stoppage time opener.

Bremen dominated in terms of shots and finished the match with 14 efforts to Dortmund’s six.
But it was Terzic’s side who doubled their lead when Guerreiro struck from 25 yards out.
The visitors refused to give up and scored what might have been a consolation goal through England under-21 star Buchanan, whose expert finish found the top corner.
But Schmidt drew them level before Burke’s stunning winner deep in stoppage time, which left Dortmund on six points from their first three games.
Champions Bayern Munich, also on six, are in action at VfL Bochum on Sunday.
Ruhr valley rivals Schalke 04 are still waiting for their first league win since their return to the top flight this season following a goalless draw against VfL Wolfsburg. More

Meunier, 30, has previously spoken of his fondness for United saying back in 2018 that they are a “unique club” and that he has “always been a fan” of the team.
The Telegraph claim that it could take a bid in the region of £12.5million to bring him to Old Trafford.

Since turning 18 just 10 days ago, the lad from Reading has scored his first senior goal for the German giants and signed a new long-term deal.
So life is certainly moving fast for the right-footed left winger who also helped England win the European Under-19 Championships in Slovakia last month.
Due to his position and style of play, it is no surprise comparisons are being made with Sancho, who has already played an key part in Bynoe-Gittens’ career path.
Now playing at Manchester United, Sancho left Watford for Manchester City’s academy, where he spent two years before leaving for Dortmund in 2017.

So when Bynoe-Gittens was in Reading’s academy, he made the same move up north because of Sancho’s progress in Manchester, turning down Arsenal in the process.
Before then, between the ages of five and seven, he played for a team near Reading called Caversham Trents.
With his dad a keen cricketer, he was torn between both sports but played for Reading and Chelsea at a very early age before sticking with his home town club until under-14 level.
Bynoe-Gittens spent two years at City before joining Dortmund as a 16-year-old in 2020, despite an offer from Bayern Munich.

Although he suffered a nasty ankle injury in his first campaign at youth level in Germany, he progressed brilliantly last season and delivered better stats than Sancho ever managed in Dortmund’s Under-19s.
He was rewarded by former first-team boss Marco Rose with a Bundesliga debut, aged 17, in a 6-1 win over Wolfsburg in April.
He made four appearances — including a full debut — at the end of last term.
Bynoe-Gittens then started four times, including the final, as England’s Under-19s beat Israel 3-1 to be crowned champions of Europe.
After just one week of holiday, he returned to Dortmund for pre-season and away to Freiburg on Saturday, with the team trailing 1-0, he scored his first senior goal to spark a 3-1 win.
There is no doubt Dortmund midfielder Bellingham has helped him settle in, along with Gio Reyna, the English-born son of former Sunderland and Man City midfielder Claudio.
He said: “They have been through what I am going through. They are both young and I talk to them, on and off the pitch.
“This season, I want to be a starter.”
Bynoe-Gittens attempted one interview in German last year. He takes three lessons a week and is hoping that next season, all his post-match duties will be in German.
Former Dortmund star Paul Lambert is impressed, telling SunSport: “I have seen him in training and he is a good one. He is only a baby but they have high hopes for him.”

Bynoe-Gittens’ £8,000-a-week deal was due to run out next summer, so on Tuesday he signed a fresh £40,000-a-week contract until 2025.
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: “We think he still has a lot more potential for development, and we will give him the time he needs.” More

And now, three years after buying him for a whopping £50m, United are reportedly prepared to take a £40m loss to sell Wan-Bissaka back to Crystal Palace.
According to The Telegraph, Palace are willing to take their academy graduate back to Selhurst Park, but will only pay £10m to do so.
Wan-Bissaka was signed with the hopes of developing the attacking side of his game to compliment an already superb tackling ability.
However, the defender has failed to develop as planned, and has even lost his place in the United starting XI this term.

The Telegraph add United are looking to replace him with one of Borussia Dortmund right-back Meunier or Sergino Dest.
Meunier, 30, has started both games for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga but was hooked at half-time of their 3-1 win over SC Freiburg.
United are yet to make an offer for the Belgian defender but are understood to be more likely to sign him than Dest, with Barcelona demanding £17m for the USA international.

That’s if the reaction of one lucky Borussia Dortmund fan who was lucky enough to catch his shirt is anything to go by.
Bellingham threw his sweaty match-worn kit into the crowd following Dortmund’s 3-1 win over Freiburg on Friday.
Naturally the young supporter celebrated with an excited fist pump.
But that reaction was taken one further by the woman next them, who appeared to be their mother.

She buried her nose into Bellingham’s shirt and gave it a good long sniff – despite the England star running around in it for 90 minutes beforehand.
The young fan then did the same, giving the shirt a sniff of their own.
And if their reactions are anything to go by the shirt is going straight up on the wall at home, without a trip through the washing machine first.
