      Atletico Madrid confirm Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko tested positive for coronavirus and will not play vs RB Leipzig

      ATLETICO MADRID have named Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko as the two players who tested positive for coronavirus.
      And the pair will miss the LaLiga side’s Champions League quarter-final with RB Leipzig on Thursday as a result.

      Diego Simeone’s side are set to take on the Germans in Lisbon as they look to reach the semi-finals.
      But their preparations have been thrown into disarray as Croatian Vrsaljko, 28, and Argentine Correa, 25, tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
      An Atletico statement read: “The first team and members of the coaching staff underwent new tests yesterday.
      “The result of which has been negative in all of them, after the appearance of two positive cases in the tests carried out on Saturday.

      “Following the health protocol, tests were also performed on relatives living with the two positive cases, all of which were also negative.
      “The club’s medical services have received authorisation in both cases to reveal their identity and end the speculation.
      “The first team will return to training this afternoon with the absence of Ángel Correa, who remains isolated at his home without presenting symptoms.
      “And Sime Vrsaljko, who was recovering from an injury outside the group, is also asymptomatic and will remain at home.

      “However, his case is considered as resolved by the health authorities as he has generated antibodies several months ago.”

      The Spanish side have been cleared to fly to Portugal tomorrow having had to delay their original flight which was scheduled for tonight.
      Their planned training session this morning was postponed as they awaited the results.
      But after Simeone and the rest of his squad were given the green light, they were able to train this afternoon and will jet off tomorrow morning.
      The news was a huge relief for Uefa who faced the embarrassing prospect of potentially awarding the tie to the German side if Atletico were unable to fulfil the fixture. 
      Uefa announced that President Aleksander Ceferin and his general secretary Theodore Theodoridis will take regular Covid-19 tests to ensure they can hand over the Europa League, Champions League and Women’s Champions League trophies and medals.
      Atletico’s last Champions League game was the 3-2 win over Liverpool at Anfield on March 11.
      That fixture came just 12 days before lockdown was introduced in the UK.
      One scientist said that fixture – along with Cheltenham Festival – led to an increase in coronavirus deaths in the UK.

      Professor Tim Spector, from King’s College London, said the two events held in March had “caused increased suffering and death that wouldn’t otherwise have occurred”.
      Some 52,000 people crammed into Anfield that night, including 3,000 Atleti fans who had travelled from Madrid.
      By that time in Spain, attendances at sporting events had already been suspended.

      Spanish radio station Cope reported the 33-year-old was then forced to miss training on Sunday and could even sit out today’s session as he continues to limp.
      Despite fears over the forward’s fitness, manager Quique Setien insisted there “won’t be a problem” with Messi starting against Bayern in Friday’s quarter-final.
      Setien said: ”Messi? He had some pain, but there shouldn’t be a problem.

      “He was fine. We will analyse it, but there won’t be a problem.”
      Bayern thrashed Chelsea 7-1 over two ties while Barca saw off Napoli 4-2 on aggregate.
      Setien added: “The game against Bayern will be complicated, but we are also a great team.
      “The team has been good and we deserved the victory.

      “We have overcome the opening minutes and in the second half Napoli didn’t create much danger.
      “The truth is that Napoli are one of the best Italian teams. We knew how to react to their start and then we had a good first half.
      “They have had more prominence during the second half.”

      Havertz ‘wants Chelsea transfer more than Sancho wants Man Utd move’ with deal ‘set to be done after Europa League’

      KAI HAVERTZ is said to be pushing for a move to the Premier League more than Jadon Sancho.
      The Bundesliga stars are both linked with a move to the English top flight.

      Havertz, valued at £90million, is subject to heavy interest from Chelsea while United are at loggerheads with Borussia Dortmund, who price 20-year-old Sancho at £108m.
      According to Sky Sports, of the pair it is Havertz, 21, who “is the one who is most keen to move as soon as possible”. 
      It is understood Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with the playmaker after Petr Cech flew to Germany for talks.
      But Bayer Leverkusen publicly insisted if their valuation is not met, Havertz will not leave.

      The player is reportedly keen to wrap up a move as soon as Leverkusen’s Europa League campaign is over.
      They play Inter Milan in the quarter finals tonight.

      United on the other hand face a battle to get their transfer for Sancho over the line.

      Like Leverkusen, Dortmund stand firm they are in no rush to sell unless their price tag is met.
      But United have made it clear they have no intention of paying £108m up front for the England forward.
      The Germans told Old Trafford bosses they wanted an agreement in place by August 10.
      But it appears no deal has been met with the winger boarding Dortmund’s flight to Switzerland to start their preparations for next season.
      United are currently in Germany to complete their Europa League campaign.
      And they are understood to see the Dortmund’s deadline as meaningless with the transfer window open until October 5.

      On Saturday SunSport reported meeting the price tag for Sancho might lead to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side potentially blowing their entire transfer funds on one player. 
      It also emerged Sancho will be offered a new £173,000-a-week deal at Dortmund if he stays.
      Although it would make him one of German football’s highest earners, it is still dwarfed by the £350k-a-week he is likely to get at Old Trafford.
      Sancho attended a house party in the UK with rap stars Krept and Konan at the weekend. 
      But Dortmund posted a statement confirming they were happy for the 20-year-old to be in England.
      Communications chief Sascha Fligge said: “It’s common and fine for players to go home before a training camp if they’re not risky. 

      “The same goes for Jadon.
      “From our point of view, the pictures that have been shown to us so far do not violate.”
      It is claimed former City starlet Sancho wishes to return to Manchester, but could be involved in a nervy summer saga.

      But the tie comes amid speculation star man Havertz is pursuing a move to Stamford Bridge.
      After Real Madrid and Bayern Munich cooled their interest in the 21-year-old, Chelsea moved closer to securing their transfer target.
      The Blues are believed to have approached Leverkusen with a £70million offer, around £20m shy of the player’s price tag.
      With personal terms said to have been agreed after Chelsea chief Petr Cech flew to Germany, a fee is the only thing standing in the way of the deal being completed.

      But the Blues success in qualifying for the Champions League is a “important” requirement met – according to ex-midfielder Michael Ballack.
      Ballack, who made lifted the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, told Sport Buzzer: “He brings everything with him, but is still in development.
      “It is also important for such a player to play in the Champions League. Therefore a change would be logical for him.
      “But he will also know that the competition and expectations of a big club like Chelsea are greater than in Leverkusen.

      “He’s not an extrovert, more of a calm guy. I don’t know what he’s like in the changing room.
      “But the fact that he already received the captain’s armband from Bayer shows that he is highly valued in Leverkusen.”
      “The next step for him is to take on more responsibility. This will also advance him in personality development. And he needs international toughness.”

      THE Bundesliga has reportedly agreed to allow fans to return from the start of September but with no away supporters until next year and booze banned.
      The top two tiers of German football have hashed out plans to allow fans back into stadiums – but only if the government gives them the green light later this month.

      Home fans could be back in Bundesliga stadiums next season
      On Tuesday, clubs from the top-two tiers of German football voted in favour of allowing some fans back into stadiums when the season starts on September 18
      But German Football League (DFL) chief Christian Seifert said plans to get fans back in stadiums hinge heavily on the country’s political leaders in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.
      He said: “If and when fans will return to the stadiums is not a decision for the DFL but for the political leaders,
      “The DFL does not expect or demand anything but we are preparing to take this small step (with fans in stadiums) when the time comes.

      “Priority is not full stadiums but the health situation. We should not take unnecessary risks but we should also not capitulate and just expect it to go away.”

      Rules for fans returing to Bundesliga grounds

      No away fans until the end of 2020
      No alcohol sold in stadiums until at least October 31
      No standing in stadiums until at least October 31
      Contact info and ID data to be collected for all fans inside the stadium

      The Bundesliga was the first major league to return in May after a two-month shutdown amid the coronavirus crisis.
      The German top-flight was played out behind closed doors until the end of the season in June – with Bayern Munich crowned champions for the eighth time.

      The country’s government has banned all events with large crowds until 31 October.

      And German health officals have recently admitted they are “very worried” about a deadly new spike in coronavirus cases.
      On Tuesday the Robert Koch Institute – the state agency in charge of disease control – reported 879 new infections plus eight new deaths.

      BORUSSIA DORTMUND chiefs have hit back at claims from former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness that their transfer policy is “not clever”.
      Hoeness sparked the bitter row by suggesting that BVB’s transfer model is centred around selling their best players.

      He said: “When Dortmund buys a highly talented player and he plays well, a few months later you hear either from the club itself or from the outside, that he will be presented as put up for sale at some point.
      “How is a player supposed to absorb the DNA of a club one hundred per cent, when he has the feeling that he’s up for sale?”
      This comes as Manchester United close in on landing Jadon Sancho in a record £110million deal, three years after Dortmund poached him from Manchester City’s academy.
      BVB’s sporting director Michael Zorc was among those to slam the claims, blasting Hoeness as “arrogant” given Bayern’s megabucks finances.

      He said: “I find the comments quite arrogant. If you have €250million (£225m) more in your pocket every year, it’s easy to throw money around. Some of it is also de facto incorrect.”
      Former Dortmund keeper, and now the club’s international ambassador, Roman Weidenfeller has also waded in.
      He suggested that Hoeness’ comments come from a place of jealousy after Jude Bellingham turned down a stunning last- minute bid from the Bavarians before sealing his £30million move to Dortmund.
      Weidenfeller said: “It again seems to be a case of deep-set frustration over the fact that Jude Bellingham decided against Bayern and for BVB.”

      Dortmund president Reinhard Raubell found the timing of Hoeness’ comments strange, given that the Bundesliga champions return to action in the Champions League on Saturday against Chelsea.
      He said: “It would have been better if Uli Hoeness had kept his statements to himself. The timing is also very strange, Bayern has the Champions League next week after all and actually better things to do.”
      While BVB chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke – who is close pals with Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge – is worried the comments have tarnished the relationship between both clubs.
      He said: “Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I have worked for years so that the two biggest German clubs have a respectful relationship with one another.

      “I think it’s very much a shame that an attempt is made to undermine that at regular intervals.”
      Dortmund reportedly want any deal for Sancho sorted by August 10, when they head to Switzerland for a pre-season training camp.
      It is understood the winger will earn a basic wage of £350,000-a-week in Manchester, according to Bild.
