Ex-Chelsea star Andre Schurrle retires aged just 29 as Germany World Cup winner admits career left him lonely

ANDRE SCHURRLE has announced his shock decision to retire from football at the age of 29.
The 2014 World Cup winner cancelled his contract at Borussia Dortmund earlier this week following a loan spell at Spartak Moscow.

In a revealing interview with Der Spiegel, Schurrle announced that: “The decision has matured in me for a long time.”
Having experienced success with Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund, the winger has opened up on the loneliness he suffered at the top of the game.
Schurrle has revealed the personal sacrifices he made for his career, stating that as “the depths became deeper, the highlights were less and less”.
He added: “You always have to play a certain role in order to survive in the business, otherwise you will lose your job and you will not get a new one.”

In a touching Instagram post, the player explained: “I want to let you know that I’m stepping away from playing professional football!!
“On behalf of myself and my family I want to thank everybody who was a part of these phenomenal years!

“The support and love you shared with me was unbelievable and more I could have ever asked for!
“Now I’m ready and open for all the beautiful possibilities that are coming towards me.”

At the age of just 18, Schurrle made his Bundesliga debut with Mainz and earned a move to Leverkusen after two seasons.
Chelsea came calling in 2013 although the winger left after 18 months in West London, halfway through the club’s title-winning campaign under Jose Mourinho.

With a tally of 14 goals in 65 appearances for the Blues, he headed to Wolfsburg and quickly won the DFB-Pokal.
A 2016 move to Borussia Dortmund did not go to plan and Schurrle was shipped out on loan to Fulham and Spartak in recent seasons.
Undoubtedly his best moment in the game came in the 2014 World Cup, helping Germany with the title with three goals in Brazil – including a brace in the infamous semi-final romp past the hosts.

Ex-Arsenal star Serge Gnabry goes public with model girlfriend Sandra Jerze as she posts loved-up holiday snap

BAYERN MUNICH forward Serge Gnabry has scored off the pitch as well as on it after bagging himself a model girlfriend.
The 25-year-old – who scored in the German Cup final against Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month – is on a well-earned break before he is due to return ahead of the resumption of the Champions League.

    2

Serge Gnabry and Sandra Jerze are believed to have been dating since March
And he has wasted no time in jetting off with his partner Sandra Jerze – who posted a snap of the two together on holiday in Greece.
SunSport reported in April how the ex-Arsenal winger had been cosying up to the 23-year-old and were in the early stages of a relationship.
But the two have now went official in their romance, with Swiss beauty Jerze sharing a picture of them during their Greek getaway.
The model posted the picture on her Instagram story to her 28,900 followers.

In the photo, a smitten Gnabry can be seen with his arm around Jerze’s belly as she leans back resting on his shoulder.
And Arsenal fans will be hoping to see her at the Emirates next campaign after fans begged Gnabry to “come home” after he wore a Gunners top during a Bayern video call.
It’s been another stunning season for the ex-Werder Bremen ace as he won his second consecutive domestic double.

In 42 games in all competitions this term, he has chipped in with an incredible 20 goals while also providing 13 assists.

And the Bavarian outfit will hope his form continues when the club face Chelsea in their Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie at the Allianz Arena next month.
Gnabry already scored twice in 3-0 first leg victory at Stamford Bridge, and he banged in four on his previous return to London away at Tottenham in the group stage.

Jude Bellingham at Dortmund training ground as 17-year-old signs five-year deal and seals £23m transfer from Birmingham

JUDE BELLINGHAM arrived at Borussia Dortmund’s training ground as he signed a five-year deal to seal his £23million transfer from Birmingham.
The 17-year-old snubbed interest from Manchester United as well as Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

    1

Jude Bellingham arrived at Borussia Dortmund’s training ground as he signed a five-year deal
Bellingham is said to have been swayed by Dortmund’s history of building stars and the chance to be a regular starter in Germany’s top flight.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the teen sensation completed his medical and signed until 2025.
Bellingham is free to sign a pro contract having turned 17 on June 30.
Despite being shown around United’s training ground by Sir Alex Ferguson in March, the player and his family feel Dortmund will be a better place for him to flourish.

United also saw the German giants pip them to Norwegian striker Erling Haaland at the start of the year.
Dortmund have all but landed England prospect  Bellingham on the cheap, having seen their initial £30m January offer rejected by Birmingham.
Two months later, Dortmund, United and Chelsea were all  prepared to pay £35m with a  further £15m in add-ons.

But the coronavirus crisis has had a major impact on transfers fees, meaning Birmingham accepted £23m.

Playmaker Bellingham became the Championship club’s youngest player at 16 years and 38 days in the Carabao Cup last August.
He has scored four goals and bagged three assists from 41 games in all competitions for the Blues this season.

Erling Haaland spends summer holiday POTATO farming and cutting down trees as Dortmund ace spends time with dad Alf-Inge

ERLING HAALAND is using his summer holidays to brush up on his farming skills while working alongside dad Alf-Inge in Norway.
When he’s not scoring goals for Borussia Dortmund, the 19-year-old can be found farming potatoes and chopping down trees.

Erling Haaland has proved he is a man of many talents

Team-mate Jadon Sancho could not control his laughter after Erling Haaland posted this snap
Haaland has been getting down and dirty in his homeland after returning for a well-deserved break.
The former Red Bull Salzburg star posted a picture of himself holding a chainsaw.
Haaland, who was wearing safety glasses, captioned the snap: “The winter is coming. Let’s chop some wood.”
Team-mate Jadon Sancho could not control his hysterics as he commented 11 laughing emojis.

In response to Sancho, Haaland said: “One day you will join.”
And fellow Dortmund star Gio Reyna commented: “Winter is in 5 months.”
But the 19-year-old was quick to explain why he was already preparing for colder conditions.
He said: “The wood has to dry out before you use it!!!!”

Haaland then followed up that photograph with a snap of himself potato farming.
The former Manchester United target has temporarily swapped his Mercedes CLA for a tractor.
He soaked up the sunshine as he farmed the fields without his shirt on.
Alongside an emoji of a potato, he wrote: “Working.”

Haaland has been keeping himself busy working with his father Alf-Inge – who played for the likes of Leeds United and Manchester City.
But the youngster hit the headlines for all of the wrong reasons this week in Norway.
Video footage appeared to show him being thrown out of a nightclub after arguing with bouncers.
He has been on holiday since Bundesliga runners-up Dortmund ended their season last month with a 4-0 defeat to Hoffenheim.
He racked up 44 goals in all competitions during the 2019/20 season.
Sixteen of those came for Dortmund after he snubbed Manchester United to join them from RB Leipzig in January.

Wilfried Zaha at centre of four-club tug-of-war as Newcastle, Everton, Atletico and Bayern all eye transfer for winger

CRYSTAL PALACE winger Wilfried Zaha faces another summer of uncertainty at Selhurst Park with four clubs chasing him.
The 27-year-old – who saw potential moves to Arsenal and Everton fall through last year due to the Eagles’ £80million price tag – has once again played big part in the South London side’s season.

    1

Zaha has featured in all 35 Premier League games for Palace – chipping in with four goals and five assists.
And fans will be now wondering whether this will be the last campaign he has at the club, with the Daily Mail stating that the forward is being watched by clubs from around the continent.
They report that Newcastle want him as they eye up a marquee signing should their proposed takeover be completed.
Meanwhile Everton are said to have retained interest in Zaha – despite signing Alex Iwobi from Arsenal after they failed to agree a fee with Palace.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring his situation as they eye up another possible signing from the Premier League, following Leroy Sane’s move from Manchester City.
The Mail then claim that LaLiga outfit Atletico Madrid are also weighing up a move, though the Spanish side are understood to be having financial problems as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

The Covid-19 pandemic could also mean that Palace are unwilling to part ways with Zaha, with it remaining to be seen how much he is valued at now.
Zaha – who has yet again been the target of vile racist abuse – still has three years left to run on his contract.

He has also been linked with a switch to Paris Saint-Germain, with the Ligue 1 side said to have contacted with his agent about a move to France.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson speaks about ‘cowardly and despicable’ racial abuse levelled at Wilfried Zaha before Aston Villa match More

Rabbi Matondo forced into grovelling apology to Schalke after training in rival Dortmund shirt with Jadon Sancho on back

RABBI MATONDO has been forced to issue a grovelling apology to Schalke fans after wearing a Jadon Sancho shirt from fierce local rivals Borussia Dortmund!
The Welshman wore the number seven shirt of ex-Manchester City team-mate Sancho for a personal training session.

    4

Rabbi Matondo was forced to apologise for training in a Jadon Sancho shirt

    4

The Welshman was given a warning fro Schalke for unacceptable conduct in donning the colours of arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund
But the move backfired as the gym picture was released on Instagram before it was later deleted.
However, the pic angered Schalke fans and also prompted a warning to Matondo from the German club over his unacceptable conduct.
Matondo, 19, posted on Instagram: “A sincere apology to Schalke and all the fans” before adding a longer statement on his account.
“Addressing the pictures circulated on social media of me in the shirt of our biggest rivals.

I wore it because it was Jadon’s and not because of anything to do with Dortmund. I did this not thinking of the consequences and how upset I would make a lot of people
    Rabbi Matondo

“I am very sad and disappointed in myself for letting everyone associated with Schalke down.
“I want to clear this situation up and most importantly to apologise to everyone at the club, in particular our incredible fans. Causing such hurt and upset was absolutely not my intention.
“Being completely transparent I naively wore the shirt for a private personal training session. The shirt was my very close friend Jadon Sancho’s shirt.
“I wore it because it was Jadon’s and not because of anything to do with Dortmund. I did this not thinking of the consequences and how upset I would make a lot of people.

“There’s no excuse for my immaturity. I just want to say how deeply sorry I am to everyone offended and upset by my actions.”
Schalke sports director Jochen Schneider told Sky Germany: “I made it clear to Rabbi Matondo on the phone what I thought of such a rash action.
“He is only 19 years old but he should not have allowed this to happen. We clearly told him that he had to show the right reaction to his misconduct on and off the pitch.”
Matondo joined Sancho in Germany when he quit City for Schalke in a £10million move in January 2019.
The four-cap Wales winger has a contract with the Bundesliga club until the summer of 2023.
Schalke, which is a district of the city of Gelsenkirchen, is about 20 miles from Dortmund.

Matondo added: “I can only promise everyone at the club that I am 100 per cent committed to Schalke and always have been since joining the club.
“I’ve loved every single minute of being a Schalke player and my love for the club, fans and my team-mates will never go.
“I will always give everything I have when I represent the club to show how much I love Schalke.”

Chelsea flop Tiemoue Bakayoko eyed by Bayern Munich in shock transfer with German giants also keen on Tanguy Ndombele

BAYERN MUNICH are eyeing up shock moves for Premier League midfield duo Tiemoue Bakayoko and Tanguy Ndombele, according to reports.
The Bundesliga champions are believed to be readying themselves for the imminent departures of Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez.

And with Corentin Tolisso also potentially nearing the Allianz Arena exit, boss Hansi Flick is seeking summer reinforcements.
Le10 Sport claim that the Bavarians are looking to out-of-favour Premier League stars to fill the impending gap in their illustrious team.
While Bakayoko, 25, featured in pre-season for Frank Lampard last year – he hasn’t seen competitive action in a Blues shirt since the 2018 FA Cup Final.
The one-cap French international has spent the last two years on loan at AC Milan and AS Monaco.

Despite this, however, Chelsea are still believed to be hoping to secure around £31.5million for his signature.
Paris Saint-Germain and Milan are also believed to be interested.
As for Ndombele, a deal may be less straightforward.
There was much initial excitement surrounding the 23-year-old’s move to Spurs last summer, as the North Londoners smashed their transfer record to sign him from Lyon.

    3

But having fallen out-of-favour following Tottenham’s mid-season managerial change – the six-cap Frenchman could be set for a swift exit.
Given the club’s financial difficulties following Covid-19, Spurs would hope to recoup much of the £65m fee shelled out for him last summer.
With Bayern unlikely to match this figure, a compromise in the form of a loan move could be reached – as the German giants managed in securing previous deals for James Rodriguez and Philippe Coutinho.

    2

The teenager could one day be the answer to Scotland’s central defensive problems
He impressed during his first season with the Bavarian giants at their academy in their Under 17s side and has been upgraded to their U19s side.
They are managed by Demichelis, who won 11 major honours with Bayern before moving Malaga, Atletico Madrid, City and Espanyol and then coaching.
And former Argentina international Demichelis admits he’s impressed with the group of youngsters who he will work with for the new season in Germany, including Morrison.
He said: “We have some great talent to work with here with the Under 19s.

“We want to do even better and, above all, continue to develop our youngsters.”
Morrison admitted last year he was learning a lot from Demichelis.
He said: “It’s brilliant getting advice from Martin Demichelis who was an incredible centre back.
“The experience the coaches have of top clubs and the amount of time they put in to help young players like me can only help me so much.

“Hopefully, I can progress to the Under 23s who are Bayern II, who play in Bundesliga 3.
“And then the plan is to eventually move into the first team which would be the dream.
“It was a big, big move for me, but it’s a great place to learn.” More
