Watch Muller crack awful Robert LewanGOALski joke as he says Bayern win more dominant than Germany’s 7-1 win over Brazil

THOMAS MULLER was in jovial mood after Bayern Munich’s thumping win over Barcelona.
But his attempt at a joke left the assembled media unamused.

    3

Bayern Munich thrashed the LaLiga giants on Friday night
Speaking after his side’s triumph, he said: “We at Bayern have Robert LewanGOALski.”
Seemingly confused that journalists weren’t rolling in the aisles at his brilliant play on words, he repeated: “You know, Robert LewanGOALski.”
But as much as Muller thought it was a side splitter of a pun, he didn’t quite get the reaction he wanted with the room remaining deathly silent.
    BETTER THAN BRAZIL
He also claimed Bayern Munich’s 8-2 win over Barcelona trumped Germany’s 7-1 win over Brazil in 2014.

The 30-year-old scored the opener during his side’s historic 8-2 win over the Spanish giants.
Muller also broke the deadlock for Germany as they thrashed Brazil at the World Cup six years ago.
But he claimed after Friday’s match that Bayern’s victory was the more dominant of the two.
He said: “In 2014 against Brazil we never had the same control of the game.

“It was something that happened but let’s not talk about it, let’s talk about today.
“It was a special night, the result and the way we played was special.

    3

Thomas Muller compared the win to Germany’s famous victory over Brazil
“The best thing was to see that the players who come from substitutes have the same attitude and same joy.
“The important thing is to do what we want on the pitch and for everyone to go to the limit.”
Before he added: “This is good, you can imagine how it feels, it was very special for us after this match.
    “But we have to recover.
“It’s a big statement but the next game, it starts 0-0. It doesn’t matter.”
The defeat has left Barcelona fans thinking Lionel Messi is set to hand in his transfer request.

Barcelona have allegedly already decided to sack struggling manager Quique Setien.
Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been tipped to take charge at the Nou Camp.
But Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has emerged as a shock contender for the role.

RB Leipzig 2 Atletico Madrid 1: Germans don’t miss Werner as deflected Adams strike earns first semi-final spot vs PSG

RB LEIPZIG showed they’re not a one-man Timo as they booked their place in the Champions League semi-final after a stunning win against Atletico Madrid.
Tyler Adams’ late deflected strike saw the Germans cause an upset in Lisbon, where Europe’s elite competition is being completed in an unprecedented knockout-tournament style format.

RB Leipzig booked their place into the Champions League semi-final
Leipzig were, of course, without star striker Timo Werner, who is already preparing for Chelsea’s pre-season but took the lead through Dani Olmo.
Joao Felix, who started on the bench, scored Atletico’s equaliser from the spot but Adams left them stunned.
Throughout the uneventful first half, Arsenal transfer target Dayot Upamecano had no problem dealing with ex-Chelsea fans’ favourite Diego Costa, chosen ahead of Alvaro Morata.
Following a stalemate in the opening 45, Leipzig came out fast and within five minutes of the second half had stunned their LaLiga opposition.

A Marcel Sabitzer cross on the right wing perfectly set up Spaniard Olmo, who headed home.

Leipzig came out fast and within five minutes of the second half had stunned their LaLiga opposition
Atletico were caught on their heels and manager Diego Simeone was in clear need of some inspiration.
That task fell to club record signing Felix, who was brought on just before the hour mark and made an immediate impact.
The Portuguese forward situated himself mainly on the left and got Atletico back into the tie.

On 70 minuets, after a beautiful one-two with Costa, Felix won a penalty.
He cooly converted and thought he had set his side on their way to turning the tie on its head.

But amazingly, with three minutes left Leipzig took another shock lead after Adams’ shot took a wicked deflection to wrong foot Jan Oblak.
After a beautiful cutback from Manchester City loanee Angelino, Adams effort from outside the box took a nick off Stefan Savic and past a helpless Oblak.
Despite a late push from Atletico, Leipzig held on for a famous win where they meet PSG, who needed two late goals to beat Atalanta.

Free agent Mario Gotze REJECTS offer to join David Beckham’s Inter Miami for £100k a week as Monaco and Roma circle

MARIO GOTZE has reportedly rejected an offer from David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
Bild claims the German playmaker, 28, snubbed a contract worth £100,000-a-week from the MLS outfit following his release by Borussia Dortmund.

Instead, World Cup winner Gotze is said to be waiting on approaches from Monaco and Roma as he looks to continue his career in Europe.
It means five-time Bundesliga winner Gotze, who also played for Bayern Munich, will not be linking up with fellow midfielder Blaise Matuidi across the pond.
The Juventus veteran, 33, is on the verge of a free transfer to Inter Miami after undergoing a medical in Paris.

Matuidi will become their first big-name signing after Chelsea winger Willian snubbed them in favour of a free switch to Arsenal.

Inter Miami were hoping to secure Gotze’s signature too after becoming the first MLS expansion team to lose their opening five competitive fixtures.
But he instead wants to remain on the continent as the likes of AC Milan, Sevilla and Fiorentina also circle.
Gotze made his senior debut for Dortmund in 2009 and went on to scoop two titles while making 116 appearances.

He secured a shock move to rivals Bayern in 2013 and won three titles there.

But injuries in his final season saw Gotze shipped back to Dortmund three years later.
He never fully recovered from his problems but still managed to clock up a further 103 games for his boyhood club.

Coutinho could KO parent-club Barcelona for Bayern Munich in Champions League as Uefa WILL allow him to play

PHILIPPE COUTINHO could knock parent club Barcelona out the Champions League with Bayern Munich.
The Brazilian playmaker has been on loan with the Bundesliga champions this season and Uefa rules do not allow clauses preventing loanees from playing against the team who owns them.

    1

Philippe Coutinho could knock parent club Barcelona out the Champions League
After both teams came through their last-16 ties at the weekend, Barca face Bayern in Lisbon on Friday night for a place in the semi-final.
And after a disappointing campaign in Germany, the 28-year-old could still come back to bite the Catalan giants.
Despite coming on as a second-half substitute during Bayern’s last-16 victory over Chelsea on Saturday, Coutinho is unlikely to start.

He has made just 23 appearances in the Bundesliga this season and whatever happens on Friday, he will have to return to Barca in the summer.

But the former Liverpool midfielder is not expected to hang around for long.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with the Brazilian – with reports emerging at the weekend suggesting they have agreed personal terms on a season-long loan.
He is also said to have visited Arsenal’s London Colney training ground.
Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian has strong links with the Gunners and has been heavily involved in bringing another of his client’s Willian to the Emirates.

The ex-Chelsea winger is said to have agreed a £100k-a-week three-year deal.

Coutinho was linked with Chelsea and is not wanted at Barca, who tried to offload him to Bayern on a permanent deal.
However, the Bundesliga side were not willing to pay the transfer fee.
The winners of Friday’s semi will face the victors of Manchester City vs Juventus.

Atletico Madrid confirm Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko tested positive for coronavirus and will not play vs RB Leipzig

ATLETICO MADRID have named Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko as the two players who tested positive for coronavirus.
And the pair will miss the LaLiga side’s Champions League quarter-final with RB Leipzig on Thursday as a result.

    1

Atletico have confirmed Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko as the two players who tested positive for coronavirus
Diego Simeone’s side are set to take on the Germans in Lisbon as they look to reach the semi-finals.
But their preparations have been thrown into disarray as Croatian Vrsaljko, 28, and Argentine Correa, 25, tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
An Atletico statement read: “The first team and members of the coaching staff underwent new tests yesterday.
“The result of which has been negative in all of them, after the appearance of two positive cases in the tests carried out on Saturday.

“Following the health protocol, tests were also performed on relatives living with the two positive cases, all of which were also negative.
“The club’s medical services have received authorisation in both cases to reveal their identity and end the speculation.
“The first team will return to training this afternoon with the absence of Ángel Correa, who remains isolated at his home without presenting symptoms.
“And Sime Vrsaljko, who was recovering from an injury outside the group, is also asymptomatic and will remain at home.

“However, his case is considered as resolved by the health authorities as he has generated antibodies several months ago.”

The Spanish side have been cleared to fly to Portugal tomorrow having had to delay their original flight which was scheduled for tonight.
Their planned training session this morning was postponed as they awaited the results.
But after Simeone and the rest of his squad were given the green light, they were able to train this afternoon and will jet off tomorrow morning.
The news was a huge relief for Uefa who faced the embarrassing prospect of potentially awarding the tie to the German side if Atletico were unable to fulfil the fixture.
Uefa announced that President Aleksander Ceferin and his general secretary Theodore Theodoridis will take regular Covid-19 tests to ensure they can hand over the Europa League, Champions League and Women’s Champions League trophies and medals.
Atletico’s last Champions League game was the 3-2 win over Liverpool at Anfield on March 11.
That fixture came just 12 days before lockdown was introduced in the UK.
One scientist said that fixture – along with Cheltenham Festival – led to an increase in coronavirus deaths in the UK.

Professor Tim Spector, from King’s College London, said the two events held in March had “caused increased suffering and death that wouldn’t otherwise have occurred”.
Some 52,000 people crammed into Anfield that night, including 3,000 Atleti fans who had travelled from Madrid.
By that time in Spain, attendances at sporting events had already been suspended.

Messi misses Barcelona training with foot injury just days before Bayern clash and has been limping since Koulibaly kick

LIONEL MESSI missed training just days before Barcelona face Bayern Munich as he recovers from a foot injury.
The Argentine suffered a swollen ankle after Kalidou Koulibaly conceded a penalty during Barca’s Champions League second leg victory.

    1

Lionel Messi missed Barcelona training just days before they face Bayern Munich as he recovers from a foot injury
Messi was unable to take the penalty as he received treatment, allowing Luis Suarez to convert.
Spanish radio station Cope reported the 33-year-old was then forced to miss training on Sunday and could even sit out today’s session as he continues to limp.
Despite fears over the forward’s fitness, manager Quique Setien insisted there “won’t be a problem” with Messi starting against Bayern in Friday’s quarter-final.
Setien said: ”Messi? He had some pain, but there shouldn’t be a problem.

“He was fine. We will analyse it, but there won’t be a problem.”
Bayern thrashed Chelsea 7-1 over two ties while Barca saw off Napoli 4-2 on aggregate.
Setien added: “The game against Bayern will be complicated, but we are also a great team.
“The team has been good and we deserved the victory.

“We have overcome the opening minutes and in the second half Napoli didn’t create much danger.
“The truth is that Napoli are one of the best Italian teams. We knew how to react to their start and then we had a good first half.
“They have had more prominence during the second half.”

Havertz ‘wants Chelsea transfer more than Sancho wants Man Utd move’ with deal ‘set to be done after Europa League’

KAI HAVERTZ is said to be pushing for a move to the Premier League more than Jadon Sancho.
The Bundesliga stars are both linked with a move to the English top flight.

Havertz, valued at £90million, is subject to heavy interest from Chelsea while United are at loggerheads with Borussia Dortmund, who price 20-year-old Sancho at £108m.
According to Sky Sports, of the pair it is Havertz, 21, who “is the one who is most keen to move as soon as possible”.
It is understood Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with the playmaker after Petr Cech flew to Germany for talks.
But Bayer Leverkusen publicly insisted if their valuation is not met, Havertz will not leave.

The player is reportedly keen to wrap up a move as soon as Leverkusen’s Europa League campaign is over.
They play Inter Milan in the quarter finals tonight.

United on the other hand face a battle to get their transfer for Sancho over the line.

Like Leverkusen, Dortmund stand firm they are in no rush to sell unless their price tag is met.
But United have made it clear they have no intention of paying £108m up front for the England forward.
The Germans told Old Trafford bosses they wanted an agreement in place by August 10.
But it appears no deal has been met with the winger boarding Dortmund’s flight to Switzerland to start their preparations for next season.
United are currently in Germany to complete their Europa League campaign.
And they are understood to see the Dortmund’s deadline as meaningless with the transfer window open until October 5.

On Saturday SunSport reported meeting the price tag for Sancho might lead to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side potentially blowing their entire transfer funds on one player.
It also emerged Sancho will be offered a new £173,000-a-week deal at Dortmund if he stays.
Although it would make him one of German football’s highest earners, it is still dwarfed by the £350k-a-week he is likely to get at Old Trafford.
Sancho attended a house party in the UK with rap stars Krept and Konan at the weekend.
But Dortmund posted a statement confirming they were happy for the 20-year-old to be in England.
Communications chief Sascha Fligge said: “It’s common and fine for players to go home before a training camp if they’re not risky.

    “The same goes for Jadon.
“From our point of view, the pictures that have been shown to us so far do not violate.”
It is claimed former City starlet Sancho wishes to return to Manchester, but could be involved in a nervy summer saga.
