Man Utd failed in £45m transfer bid for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby on deadline day

MANCHESTER United made an audacious £45million move for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby on deadline day but failed, according to reports.
The club made four last-ditch recruitments just before the transfer window shut, but it would have been five if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the side’s transfer chiefs had their way.

After a summer spent chasing Jadon Sancho, it appears the Old Trafford hierarchy attempted a late dash at another wide man.
Reports from Sport Bild say the Red Devils tried to recruit Bayer Leverkusen’s Diaby for big money.
They were apparently willing to pay £45m (€50m) to try and sway the German club.
But Leverkusen blocked the move and are looking to extend his contract.

Sporting director Rudi Voller said: “It wasn’t just Kai Havertz this summer.
“We had three or four other players who were the focus of foreign clubs. One of them was Moussa Diaby.”
Sports Bild suggest Manchester United were the main club in contention, although their neighbours Manchester City were also interested in the Frenchman.
Diaby has 10 goals and nine assists in 48 appearances for Leverkusen.

He has impressed off the left flank in the Bundelisga, but can also play in other positions.
The 21-year-old came through PSG’s academy and joined Leverkusen last year.
He also represents France at U21 level.
Despite their failure to land him, United did manage to capture Amad Traore and Facundo Pellistri on deadline day.

But both of those are signings for the future, where Diaby may have been expected to come in and make an instant impact.
Following the Sancho deal falling apart, United have also reportedly had unsuccessful runs at Ousmane Dembele, Douglas Costa and Ismaila Sarr.
The scattergun approach of the club in the transfer window has been criticised by pundits and former players.

Man City and Liverpool among FOUR clubs fighting for Alaba but Bayern star ‘wants Barcelona or Real Madrid transfer’

MANCHESTER CITY and Liverpool are among the four clubs fighting it out for David Alaba’s signature, according to reports.
It is thought the Bayern Munich man does not want to go to any of them – and instead is hoping to join Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Alaba, 28, is into the final year of his current deal at the Allianz Arena and is not close to agreeing an extension.
That would see the defender become a free agent come the end of the season, with pre-contract negotiations able to be sorted as early as January.
According to AS, City, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus all view Alaba as a primary target.
Sport Bild, however, report Alaba would rather go to one of the LaLiga giants – with Los Blancos considering a swoop due to the lack of a transfer fee.

Confident at left-back or centre-back, where he has spent most of his time under Hansi Flick, Alaba would be the ideal signing for Pep Guardiola – his ex-boss at Bayern.
Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho’s injuries highlighted Jurgen Klopp’s need for quality defensive reinforcement.
For Juventus and PSG, they will be hoping to add more Champions League-winning experience to translate their domestic dominance into conquering Europe.
Alaba joined Bayern’s youth set-up in 2008 and has won 18 major honours with the Bavarians as he closes in on 400 first-team appearances.

That includes nine Bundesliga crowns and two Champions League triumphs.
However, manager Hansi Flick confirmed contract talks have stalled – while former club president Uli Hoeness slammed the Austrian’s agent, stating: “It’s all about money.”
Alaba responded angrily to Flick’s public comments and claimed he only discovered Bayern had withdrawn their final offer when it came out in the news.
Alaba said: “I cannot say how it will continue from this point. I am glad to be playing for Bayern and to be a part of the team.
“But what the future will look like after yesterday evening I just cannot say, as no one has talked to me officially.
“I can completely understand the fans (being hurt). I wish internal stuff would stay internal.
“The numbers out there do not correspond to reality and I am a bit disappointed and sad that the club never officially came out to say they are wrong.
“I have not made any thoughts about my future because Bayern was always the first point of contact. I had no contact with other clubs for that reason.”

Dortmund ‘optimistic’ Erling Haaland will sign new deal and deny £68m release clause exists amid Man Utd transfer links

BORUSSIA DORTMUND are ‘optimistic’ star striker Erling Haaland will pen a new deal at the club as they denied reports of a £68million release clause.
Reports in Germany suggested an exit clause exists that if activated would allow the prolific Norwegian forward to leave in 2021 – but Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke rebuked the claims.

Watzke, in an interview with Bild, said: “There is no such agreement.”
Both Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid, have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old.
The Red Devils and Los Blancos suffered a blow when Liverpool were tipped to seal a future move by Haaland’s former side RB Salzburg’s sporting director Cristoph Freund.

However, all three European clubs could miss out if Dortmund chief Watzke, 61, has his way.
He added: “It is about convincing the player of your club and your plans. We really want Erling to stay with us longer and we want to convince him and his agent of this.
“I am quite optimistic. I think Erling is comfortable at BVB.
“We can definitively say that he took the right step last winter by signing for our club.

“I would consider it a mistake if he moved on after such a short amount of time.”

Haaland rejected United to join Dortmund from RB Salzburg for £18m in December 2019.
He has made a fast start to the latest Bundesliga season, bagging five goals in as many games with two assists to boot.
And according to CIES Football Observatory’s list of the most valuable players born in the 2000s, Haaland is fourth with a value of £108m.

    2. Jadon Sancho – £112m
The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best right wingers on the planet having scored 36 goals in 107 games for Borussia Dortmund.

    3. Ansu Fati – £110m
Touted as the heir to Lionel Messi’s throne at Barcelona, the 18-year-old scored eight times last season, and already has five strikes to his name this term.

Still just 19, the forward is looking to be named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the second time.

    8. Dejan Kulusevski – £68m

David Alaba slams Bayern for airing contract dispute in public and reveals he found out they withdrew offer on the news

DAVID ALABA has slammed Bayern Munich for making his contract dispute public knowledge.
And the ace claims he only discovered Bayern had withdrawn their final offer when it came out in the news yesterday.

The Manchester City and Liverpool target, 28, will be available on a free transfer when his contract expires next year.
Bayern president Herbert Hainer confirmed on Sunday the club offered Alaba a ‘very good’ new deal.
But the German giants have now pulled the plug on the deal after Alaba’s agent rejected their approach.
And the Austrian ace is not happy the news has been made public, claiming he hasn’t even been officially informed by Bayern yet.

Alaba said: “I heard it like everyone else on the news.
“I cannot say how it will continue from this point.

Bayern chief Hainer broke the news to Bavarian outlet BR24 at the weekend, explaining: “We presented him with a really, very good, very fair competitive offer – especially during these times.
“We told David’s agent during the last meeting that we wanted clarity and an answer by the end of October because we want to plan for such an important position and player.
“But we haven’t heard anything until Saturday.
“Our sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic then contacted the agent and the answer was that the offer is still unsatisfying and that we should think more.
“We then decided to take the offer off the table completely. That means there is no longer any offer.”

The Austrian was said to be demanding a mammoth £400,000-a-week to stay at the club.
He has been with Bayern Munich since he joined from Austria Vienna in 2008, aged 16.
Alaba has made over 400 appearances at the Allianz Arena and won 17 major honours.
But Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is hoping to lure him to the Premier League.
The Bundesliga star has emerged as Guardiola’s top target in his search for a new left-back.
City were heavily linked to him during the summer transfer window, but the move failed to materialise.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side are also interested in signing him.

Chelsea in transfer move for German centre-back Matthias Ginter from Borussia Monchengladbach dubbed ‘new Sergio Ramos’

CHELSEA are set to move for Germany defender Matthias Ginter – who has been hailed as the new Sergio Ramos.
The Blues have already signed striker Timo Werner and attacking midfielder Kai Havertz from the Bundesliga this year.

But boss Frank Lampard is now ready to make a bid for Borussia Moenchengladbach centre-half Ginter.
The 26-year-old has been likened to Real Madrid legend Ramos by Germany World Cup-winning skipper and former Sun Sport columnist Lothar Mattheus.
Mattheus told Sky Sports Germany: “Ginter has become a leader at the back, in a similar way to Ramos at Real.
“He doesn’t just give instructions to his team-mates, but leads them as well. That’s what Ginter is doing really well at the moment. He reminds me of Ramos.”

Chelsea could grab Ginter for just £30m in January.
The West Londoners have already spent over £200m this year.
Lampard has strengthened his defence by bringing in experienced Brazil centre-half Thiago Silva, 36.
But he wants another defender and hopes to off-load Antonio Rudiger, who could return to Germany after a loan move to Spurs fell through in the summer.

Fan Mattheus added: “He’s full of confidence nowadays, and has become a big personality.
“In the past, he wasn’t as vocal and tended to follow the pack. Now he’s taking on responsibility and making important decisions – defensively and in attack.”
Ginter moved to Gladbach in 2017 after failing to hold down a starting spot at Borussia Dortmund.
He came through the ranks at FC Freiburg.
The Germany international defender has made over 110 appearances for Gladbach, helping them qualify for the Champions League.
    He also has nine goals.
Lampard has also signed left-back Ben Chilwell, midfielder Hakim Ziyech and keeper Edouard Mendy as he tries to build a title-winning team at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool given huge transfer boost as Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick CONFIRMS David Alaba contract talks have stalled

DAVID ALABA is yet to agree a new contract with Bayern Munich – potentially alerting Liverpool to a deal for the defender.
Bayern boss Hansi Flick has confirmed the club’s difficulty in tying down the Austrian with his existing deal expiring in June.

And Alaba, 28, has been linked with a move to Anfield after Virgil van Dijk’s injury – following in the footsteps of former team-mate Thiago Alcantara.
Flick told reporters: “Alaba is doing a good job.
“I feel he’s the same as last season, very focused, loud on the pitch, one of the players who leads our defence. For me, there’s no difference between now and last season.

“I’m not concerning myself with [his future] at all right now.
“I really hope that he signs a new deal with Bayern because I think he knows what the current situation is in Munich.
“We have a lot of fun, it is a good atmosphere in the team and we play successful football. It is a club that belongs among the best in the world.
“The conditions are top for every player right now and I think he’ll think twice about changing that.

“He will think about it, I am sure, but we will have to respect any decision. I hope he will remain with us but ultimately it is his decision.”

Manchester clubs United and City, plus Juventus, are also said to be tracking Alaba.
Munich have won six of the seven games he has played this season, including the Uefa Super Cup and their opening two matches in the Champions League.
Snapped up from Austria Wien as a teenager, the versatile star has been a mainstay in the Bayern side for a decade – winning nine Bundesliga titles.
But contract talks have been tough with former club president Uli Hoeness slamming Alaba’s agent.

    It’s purely about money.
Uli Hoeness On Alaba’s Extension Talks

Amid talk of an £18.5million agent’s fee, he stated last month: “It’s purely about money.
“If you only knew what [Pini] Zahavi wants for himself from David’s signature – an eight-figure sum.
“That is not at all possible. I can understand that Hasan [Salihamidzic, Bayern director] totally flipped out at a meeting. The arguments that are exchanged there defy belief.”
