Sancho, Greenwood, Saka and Foden make Golden Boy shortlist – but face competition from Haaland, Fati and Vinicius

ENGLAND quintet Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Bukayo Saka, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Phil Foden were named on the 20-man Golden Boy 2020 shortlist.
The five young stars all excelled for their club sides in 2019-20 and are now senior Three Lions internationals.

However, they face strong competition in the 20-man list – including from Erling Haaland, Ansu Fati and Vinicius Junior.
The award, run by Tuttosport, is open to players born on or after January 1, 2000 and playing in a European nation’s top tier – with 40 journalists voting on the top performer across the calendar year.
After an initial longlist of 100 was revealed in June, four cuts of 20 players mean it is now down to the final 20.
Sancho was pipped by Joao Felix a year ago but will be hoping his stunning form for Borussia Dortmund will see him go one better this time around.

The winger managed 20 goals and 20 assists last season and has started the new campaign with a goal and two assists in his first three appearances.
Greenwood is hoping to become the record-extending fourth Manchester United player to be crowned the Golden Boy.
Wayne Rooney (2004), Anderson (2008) and Anthony Martial (2015) have all picked up the award in its 17-year history.
And the academy graduate’s 19 goals in a stunning breakout season will surely make him a contender.

Saka earned his break in Arsenal’s Europa League campaign with his versatility down the left a key attribute.
Handed the No7 shirt at the Emirates over the summer, the teenager has continued to impress as Gareth Southgate handed him his debut against Wales during the international break.
Hudson-Odoi made 33 appearances for Chelsea last season despite injury and has drawn attention from the likes of Bayern Munich.
And Foden made the most of his run in the Manchester City team to force his way into the shortlist and Southgate’s plans.
The Stockport Iniesta scored five goals after the season restarted in June and has already added another two this term.
However, Haaland’s bonkers return of 44 goals in 40 games last season for Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund places him among the favourites.
He also nabbed his first international hat-trick this week to take his tally to 11 in ten so far this season.
Elsewhere, LaLiga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid each have two nominees.

On-loan Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi tests positive for coronavirus and forced to wait for Hertha Berlin debut

MATTEO GUENDOUZI has become the latest footballer to test positive for coronavirus, Hertha Berlin have confirmed.
After returning from international duty with France’s Under-21 side, the Arsenal loanee was diagnosed with the illness.

However, the Bundesliga club state that Guendouzi, 21, is asymptomatic and doing well.
A Hertha statement read: “Matteo Guendouzi has tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from international duty.
“There has been no contact with any Hertha players or staff.

“He is symptom-free and feeling well, but will now self-isolate for 10 days. Get well soon, Matteo!”
After signing from the Gunners earlier in the month, Guendouzi had been hoping to make his Berlin debut against Stuttgart on Saturday.
But he will now have to wait for his Bundesliga bow, with the following weekend’s game at RB Leipzig also looking doubtful.
The midfielder featured in both of France U21s’ games during the break, Les Bleus beating Lichtenstein and Slovakia.

A move away from Emirates Stadium appeared inevitable for the youngster after he fell out with Mikel Arteta.

A potential loan switch to Berlin was formulated earlier in the summer, but it was only in the final days of the window that Guendouzi accepted the offer.
He had been a regular for Arsenal until the Spaniard’s arrival.
A tempestuous response to the Gunners’ 2-1 defeat by Brighton in June was among the reasons behind his exile from the side.
And he was highlighted for a move soon after that incident, with the club bringing in Thomas Partey to bolster their midfield amid his exit.

How Chelsea could line up with Haaland, Havertz and Werner forming Lampard’s dream front line

ERLING HAALAND could be the final piece of the puzzle for Frank Lampard at Chelsea.
The Blues are reportedly planning to lure the 20-year-old away from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Here’s one way Chelsea could start with Erling Haaland leading the line

Lampard spent over £230million bolstering his squad during this summer’s transfer window.
He poached Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen and Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.
But there’s one man missing from his dream front line.

Chelsea want former Manchester United target Haaland to lead the line next season, it’s been claimed.

He snubbed a move to the Premier League to join the German giants for £17.1m in December.
Since his arrival, he has proved his potential with a whopping 21 goals in 23 appearances.
The 6ft 3in striker would be the perfect target man to spearhead Chelsea’s attack.
He could play as the lone striker ahead of Havertz with Werner and Ziyech out wide.

Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for Erling HaalandCredit: AP:Associated Press

He is believed to have a £63m release clause in his Dortmund contract.
But Chelsea face competition from Real Madrid for the Norwegian’s signature.
Zinedine Zidane wants to sign him up as a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema.
And Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged his former club to go all out for Haaland.

Best XI available for FREE in 2021 including Lionel Messi, Mesut Ozil, Paul Pogba… and Prem return for Diego Costa?

LIONEL MESSI and Paul Pogba head the list of seriously big names who are now into the final year of their current contracts.
And that means we could see some incredible free transfers at the end of the season.

These players are all out of contract come the end of the season so will be available for free

    7

Lionel Messi made a dramatic U-turn to see out the final year of his Barcelona contractCredit: AFP or licensors

Messi threatened to quit Barcelona this summer but decided to honour his deal while Pogba made another ploy to try and manufacture a ‘dream’ move to Real Madrid over the international break.
But with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero also running down their deals, plenty of clubs will be eyeing up some smart business.
And could there even be a surprise return to the Premier League in store for Diego Costa?
SunSport picks out some of the best players available for nothing next summer.

    GK – Gianluigi Donnarumma
The AC Milan stopper burst on to the scene as a teenager and is still backed to be Italy’s No1 for many years.
But with just a year to go on his current deal, could he be holding out for one of the European superpowers to come calling?
    RB – Eric Garcia
OK, yes, his favoured position is at centre-back but for this team he is going to have to move across.
The Manchester City star revealed he will not be signing a contract extension at the Etihad and is expected to rejoin Barcelona after a summer move fell through.

    CB – Sergio Ramos
Ramos takes the first centre-back spot as one of the greatest in that position over the last decade.
Captain now Iker Casillas has gone, penalty taker now Cristiano Ronaldo has gone, the Real Madrid icon may no longer be at his peak aged 34 but is still a fine defender.
    CB – Jerome Boateng
On paper, Boateng has enjoyed a stellar career with an FA Cup, eight Bundesligas, two Champions Leagues and the World Cup.
But even then the German still leaves some unconvinced he is in the top bracket – however, you could do worse for a free agent.

Chelsea were the top spenders in the Premier League this summer

    7

The percentage of answers have been round up or down from their decimal points
    LB – David Alaba
Alaba, meanwhile, has proven his quality time and time again – and in many different positions.
The Bayern Munich star excelled at left-back for years but has since moved into midfield and centre-back, making it look easy – no wonder the giants are battling it out for his signature.
    CM – Paul Pogba
What more is there to say about Paul Pogba? There is undoubtedly bags of talent – as he showed at the World Cup and at the end of last season.
But it feels like he has never fully found his best football since returning to Old Trafford for £89million and keeps openly admitting he would consider a transfer – the question is whether he has justified a move to the likes of Real Madrid. Does have a 12-month extension option.
    CM – Georginio Wijnaldum
A critical part of the Liverpool engine room which delivered European and then league success.
Ronald Koeman taking over at Barcelona and Thiago’s arrival at Anfield led to speculation of a departure this summer – give it a year and he could well be lining up at the Nou Camp.
    CM – Mesut Ozil
Arsenal will be counting down the days until they can stop paying Ozil £350,000 per week, or £50,000 a day, or £2,083 an hour, or £34.72 per minute.
The German signed his lucrative new deal in January 2018 and has done very little for the club since – and absolutely nothing after the lockdown restart, except offer to pay for Gunnersaurus’ wages.

    7

Paul Pogba declared it would be a ‘dream’ for him to play for Real Madrid – but whether he has earned the move is debatableCredit: PA:Press Association

    RW – Lionel Messi
We almost witnessed one of the most spectacular of all transfers this summer when Messi was ready to walk out on Barcelona after nearly 20 years.
His loyalty to the Catalan giants saw him perform a U-turn so he didn’t take them to court and instead would honour the final year.
But it would take a remarkable shake-up for the Argentine to sign a new deal.
And that means the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain will be plotting their mammoth offers.

    ST – Sergio Aguero
Aguero is the greatest foreign goalscorer the Premier League has seen, breaking records galore and bagging more than 250 times for City since his arrival in 2011.
But this season may well be his last if there is no agreement made for the 32-year-old to stay on beyond the summer – and he would not be short of options.
    LW – Memphis Depay
Remembered by many for his failed spell at Manchester United, Depay reset with Lyon and has proven he is still a top-class talent.
Like compatriot Wijnaldum, he was close to joining Barcelona in the last window but a deal could not get over the line in time – another impressive campaign in Ligue 1 will ensure the biggest clubs keep an eye out.
    Alternative XI
Unsurprisingly, there are still a fair few names not getting into that star-studded XI.
So here is the Alternative XI – and it is still pretty strong with experienced internationals, Premier League kings, a World Cup champion and even a Ballon d’Or winner.

Another whole team of out-of-contract talented players could make up a second-string XI
    GK – Jack Butland
Things have gone rather pear-shaped for Butland, England’s youngest senior goalkeeper, with relegation with Stoke, a loss of form and now an outcast – although was linked with Liverpool as back-up to Alisson.
    CB – Willy Boly
Boly was one of Wolves’ standout players in their first year back in the Premier League and is still a key member of the back three Nuno Espirito Santo has mastered at Molineux.
    CB – Jonny Evans
At £3m, Leicester bagged a great when they landed the former Man United defender, who played in every league game for the Foxes in 2019-20 – don’t rule out a new deal getting signed.
    CB – Shkodran Mustafi
Mustafi’s Arsenal career looked all over before Mikel Arteta’s arrival and a strong end to the season.
But will he be needed next season with William Saliba, Gabriel, Pablo Mari, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers AND Konstantinos Mavropanos?

Manchester clubs have the worst net spend in the past decade by some distance
    RM – Michail Antonio
Effective in a multitude of positions – probably none more so than up front – Antonio is proving why he deserves a new contract with the Hammers already this season.
    CM – Luka Modric
A serial winner for Real Madrid, ended the Ballon d’Or duopoly and took Croatia to the World Cup final.
But it looks as though Modric’s nine years at the Bernabeu will come to an end following the emergence of Fede Valverde and others.
    CM – Julian Draxler
The German midfielder’s Paris Saint-Germain career never really took off as many expected following his 2017 arrival from Wolfsburg but aged 27 he will be confident of further success.
    LM – Danny Rose
England’s No1 left-back for many years saw his career spiral downwards when Jose Mourinho arrived at Spurs and he needs to find a new club while he can still do a job .
The 30-year-old walks into a fair number of Premier League sides.

    7

    7

Luka Modric became the first player other than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or since Kaka in 2007Credit: AP:Associated Press
    CAM – Angel Di Maria
Not many players can boast a CV of clubs like Di Maria.
But now well into his 30s, he will do well to earn another contract at Paris Saint-Germain and will need to be playing to get back into the Argentina fold ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
    ST – Arkadiusz Milik
He may have already racked up more than 50 Poland appearances but it appears Spurs-target Milik is unwanted at Napoli. Turning 27 in February, he still has plenty to offer.
    ST – Diego Costa
And last but by no means least is Costa. The fiery front man banged in 59 goals in 120 Chelsea appearances before returning to Atletico Madrid in 2017 – but now faces competition from Luis Suarez.

Dortmund’s 15-year-old Moukoko has 10-year boot deal with Nike, is set for Champions League squad and is a goal-machine

WHERE were you when Youssoufa Moukoko made his Champions League debut?
That could be the question on every football fans’ lips in years to come when this incredibly gifted striker fulfils his promise.

    9

And we may get to see that moment this season.
The 15-year-old sensation is set to be named in Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League squad.
Should he make his debut for the German giants, Moukoko will become the youngest ever Champions League debutant.
    RULE BREAKER
Unbelievably, Moukoko is so good the Bundesliga have changed their age eligibility rules in order to let him play.

Previously, players have not been allowed to play in Germany’s top-flight until they are 16-and-a-half.
But such have been the waves caused by Moukoko’s rapid rise, that this has now been lowered to just 16, which he turns on November 20.
Furthermore, in anticipation of his German debut (he would be eligible to play away Hertha Berlin on November 21) the live-wire forward has been training with Lucien Favre’s first team.
The current Dortmund record was set by Nuri Sahin back in 2005, when he made his debut at 16 years, 11 months and one day – before going on to play for Real Madrid and Liverpool.

The German teen, who signed a boot deal with Nike for 10-years worth a reported £9million in 2019, has left observers flabbergasted by his incredible ability at such a young age.
But his progress is nothing new.
    GOALS, GOALS, GOALS
At the age of just 12, pre-teen Moukoko was playing for Dortmund’s under-17s and Germany’s under-16s.
He scored an astonishing 90 goals in 56 games at under-17 level, before bagging 34 in 20 this season for the under-19s – despite having started the season as a 14-year-old.
And after the Bundesliga’s new ruling, dubbed the “Moukoko rule”, he could make his first-team bow in the winter – and become Dortmund’s youngster-ever player.
Champions League-winning club legend and youth boss Lars Ricken spoke to German newspaper Bild about Moukoko’s rapid rise.
“He’s scored a lot of goals, is very inquisitive, hungry for success, hardworking and always comes with a smile that distinguishes him,” he said.
“That’s what we look at. The tools are there.”

    HOW OLD IS HE?
But such success has been quickly met with doubts about his age, even from inside his own club.
Dortmund’s Under-23s manager Timo Preus said: “With Youssoufa, I can imagine that his age has only been guessed.
“Maybe in reality he is one or two years older. But certainly he is not 17. For him that is very difficult.
“There is nothing to blame him for, the boy is not cheating or anything.”
However, Moukoko’s dad Joseph has been forced to insist his son is the age he claims he is – even if he refuses to get caught up in the tidal wave of excitement surrounding the lad.

Moukoko Sr said: “His age is right.
“Immediately after he was was born I registered him at the German consulate in Yaounde. We have a German birth certificate.
“For me he is not a wonderkid. I was even better as a kid.”
    CONVEYOR BELT OF TALENT
Dortmund have a rich heritage in bleeding first class youngsters from their youth set-up to the first team.
Impressive Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old under Thomas Tuchel in 2016.
And more recently, Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and Gio Reyna have made fans sit up and take notice of their ability.

The German giants have also spent around £25million on Birmingham City starlet Jude Bellingham, who himself only turned 17 back in June.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said of Moukoko last November: “He’s an outstanding talent and we want him to learn how to train and play with adults.”
And thanks to the “Moukoko rule”, this November it appears that Zorc can get his wish.

Man Utd’s transfer approach ‘baffled’ Dortmund after making shock £1m bid to sign Nico Schulz on deadline day

DORTMUND were reportedly left baffled after Manchester United made a late £1million offer for Nico Schulz.
The German giants forked out £22million to sign the defender from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2019.

But United allegedly tried to lure him away from Germany with a cheeky deadline day bid.
ESPN claim Dortmund were ‘baffled’ after the Red Devils offered a loan fee of just under £1million.
The overambitious move for Schulz has led Dortmund to ‘question the credentials of United’s recruitment and scouting team’.

United were willing to pay the 27-year-old’s wages for the 2020-21 campaign.

But Dortmund did not entertain United’s offer for the 11-cap Germany international.
Schulz failed to impress during his first season with Dortmund after recovering from a calf injury.
United had hoped to seal a late deal for the 27-year-old after failing to sign his team-mate Jadon Sancho.
The 20-year-old Dortmund wideman emerged as Solskjaer’s top transfer target this summer.

But Manchester United were not able to meet his huge £108million valuation.
They reportedly offered him a salary lower than his current contract in Germany.
United are expected to revive their interest in the England star in the January transfer window.
Solskjaer missed out on Sancho and Schulz – but managed to sign four new players on deadline day.
Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles, Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellstri also joined the Red Devils.

Michael Cuisance hits back at Leeds and claims he did NOT fail medical over transfer from Bayern Munich

MICHAEL CUISANCE has firmly denied a failed medical put the kibosh on his switch to Leeds from Bayern Munich.
And the midfielder’s claims have reportedly been backed by Marseille officials who say the player they signed on loan three days after his move to Elland Road collapsed is ‘100%’ fit.

Cuisance, 21, travelled from Germany to England last week to complete an £18million move to the Premier League new boys.
However Leeds put the brakes on the transfer after medical checks by their officials led to concerns over how long it could have taken Cuisance to recover from a previous injury picked up by the tests.
But the Frenchman told Goal.com medical fears were not the reasons behind the collapse of his move.
Cuisance said: “’There was no problem with the medical, the one with Marseille went very well, I am in form and ready to play.

“At Leeds, there was no problem from my side.’’
Marseille bosses have backed up Cuisance’s claims over his fitness and insist they have no concerns about the man who joined on a season-long loan on Monday.

Pablo Longoria, the club’s head of football said: “We did not find any issues with his medical, everything was done properly.

“He is completely available, at 100 per cent.”
The switch to Marco Bielsa’s side would have included a buy-back clause for the Champions League holders.

And the starlet made 15 appearances for the Bundesliga champions last term, netting three goals in all competitions.

Leeds assessment led to Bielsa’s transfer team turning their attention to other targets.

The Spanish giants have the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
Guendouzi, meanwhile, will spend the campaign in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin.
The pair both signed for the Gunners in 2018 under Unai Emery.
Only three players made more appearances for the club than Guendouzi in his first season in North London.
But the 21-year-old Frenchman fell out with Mikel Arteta last season.

He has not featured since his meltdown at Brighton on June 20, Arsenal’s second match after the restart.

Like his fellow midfielder, Torreira was not included by Arteta in any of their opening seven matches of this term.
Arsenal triggered Ghana star Partey’s £45million release clause before finalising personal terms and contract details as the 11pm deadline loomed.
