Sead Kolasinac won just two out of 17 games while on loan at Schalke
Shkodran Mustafi had a torrid time in his Schalke spell, conceding 36 goals in his 13 appearances
Kolasinac returned to Schalke on a temporary basis in January but the club has decided not to try to make the deal permanent.
He will now leave Schalke alongside Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, with the club’s Director of Sport Peter Knabel releasing a statement.
It reads: “This decision hurts us both in sport and human terms.
“In view of the current budget and squad structure – all the known and publicly discussed challenges – there was no alternative. We have to be so honest.
“We are very grateful to them that they supported the association they love to the best of their ability for six months.
“Every time you meet them you can feel how important Schalke 04 is to them and how much they feel connected to the club.
“We would like to say thank you for the great passion and support you have shown the club in these difficult times.”
Journalist Chris Wheatley reports Kolasinac has failed to reach an agreement with Schalke due to the club’s financial limitations.
Alongside his team-mates, Kolasinac was targeted by Schalke fans in protests following the club’s relegation.
Eggs, fireworks and abuse were hurled at the squad, which included Shkodran Mustafi, by a 600-person mob.
Mustafi has since been released by the German outfit, lasting just three months at the VELTINS-Arena.
The former Germany international moved back to his homeland after his contract was terminated by the Gunners in February.

Mikel Arteta must now decide whether to sell or keep Kolasinac

Mikel Arteta will have to consider doing the same with Kolasinac, who has just a year remaining on his current deal.
The Spaniard has preferred to use Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka at left back instead of Kolasinac, so it is possible the Bosnian will be moved on once more, perhaps on loan or on a permanent basis.
Clubs in Italy and Turkey are reportedly looking at Kolasinac, who looks set to depart The Emirates according to Wheatley.

Chelsea transfer target Robert Lewandowski hints at Bayern exit by admitting he is ‘curious to learn a new culture’

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI has sparked new talk of a potential transfer my admitting he is curious to learn a new culture. The Poland international has spent 11 years in Germany, seven at Bayern Munich, and is seemingly ready to explore somewhere new.
Robert Lewandowski is eager to explore new surroundings after an 11-year stint in Germany
Thomas Tuchel will likely be hoping the Premier League and Champions League title appeals to Lewandowski
Lewandowski, 32, has been linked to Chelsea, Barcelona, and PSG, with the Blues reportedly making contact with the striker earlier this month.
And now Lewandowski has hinted at a potential move.
He told Canal+: “I remain open-minded. I feel very good at Bayern, the city is superb, it’s a great club.”
“I am always curious to learn a new language, a new culture. But whether it will be in football or after my career, even I don’t know.”
Lewandowski is still improving and hot off the back of an astonishing campaign in which he scored 41 Bundesliga goals.
He could be the perfect fit for Chelsea this summer, as Thomas Tuchel wants to add two or three players to his Champions League winning squad.
Tammy Abraham has been heavily linked with a transfer exit – West Ham, Newcastle and Aston Villa are all rumoured to be interested.
And fellow striker Olivier Giroud could also be next out of the door at Stamford Bridge, possibly to AC Milan.

A report earlier this month hinted at a possible move to England due to Lewandowski’s desire to earn more money.
He last put pen to paper on a new contract at Bayern Munich in 2019, but now appears ready to try something new.

Man Utd ‘mostly agree’ Jadon Sancho personal terms and Dortmund star’s representatives ‘expect £77m transfer’

MANCHESTER UNITED have ‘mostly agreed’ personal terms with Jadon Sancho, according to reports. And the player’s representatives are ‘expecting’ a £77million transfer to get over the line this summer.
Jadon Sancho’s transfer to Manchester United could be completed while he is on international duty with EnglandCredit: Getty
United tried to sign Sancho last year but were put off by Borussia Dortmund’s £108m asking price.
Now Sport1 in Germany reckon the Bundesliga side have dropped their demands and an accepted bid will open the door for negotiations to be completed.
But after the discussions that took place in 2020, it should not take too long to seal an agreement between United and Sancho.
The report does add, though, that a formal transfer bid is yet to be lodged by the Old Trafford club.
It is thought United are prioritising winger Sancho over strikers Erling Haaland or Harry Kane this year.
And Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc admitted the club will not stand in Sancho’s way if a suitable offer comes in after playing hard ball a year ago to get another season out of the Englishman.
Zord said: “We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions.
“He’s been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling.”

Man Utd ‘prefer to seal Jadon Sancho transfer over Harry Kane and will let Cavani continue until Haaland quits Dortmund’

MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly would prefer to sign Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho over England team-mate Harry Kane. And experienced striker Edinson Cavani will continue his scoring exploits up front until Erling Haaland decides to call it quits at Dortmund.

Harry Kane wants to leave Tottenham and is a target for the Red DevilsCredit: GETTY IMAGES
According to the Daily Mail, Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started planning for next season immediately after the Europa League final loss to Villarreal in Gdansk.
The recent extension of Cavani’s contract means signing a top-class forward is less of a priority.
Whereas Sancho – a long-time target – is more of a priority, and would help push Mason Greenwood.
The 21-year-old has had another fine season in Germany, scoring 16 goals and providing 20 assists across all competitions.
Sancho’s fine form also helped Dortmund to win the German Cup.
The report states that despite Kane wanting to leave this summer, United do not want to be dragged into a costly auction with rivals Manchester City.
And Daniel Levy will command a high fee for Spurs’ biggest asset due to the player having three years left on his contract.
United are willing to wait for Haaland, who has indicated he will stay at Dortmund for at least another season.

Bayer Leverkusen repost tweet about Chelsea hero Kai Havertz missing Champions League tie for exams four years ago

BAYER LEVERKUSEN posted an old tweet to show just how far Chelsea’s Champions League hero Kai Havertz has come. The German scored the winner as the Blues beat Manchester City 1-0 in Porto and his old club were quick to hark back to the time he missed a Champions League tie because he had exams.

Havertz, 21, put the Blues one up in the 42nd minute and it proved to be enough for the West Londoners.
Back in 2017, Havertz – then 17 – was forced to miss Leverkusen’s Champions League last-16 clash with Atletico Madrid.
He had a German and a sport exam to sit.
The Bundesliga side tweeted a team update ahead of the game and wrote: “Havertz has important exams at school.”
And as the most expensive player in Chelsea’s history more than paid back his £89million fee with the priceless goal, Leverkusen shared that post again.
They tweeted it alongside the words: “How it started.”
And for the ‘how it’s going’ picture they included a snap of the forward sliding on his knees having scored the winner in the biggest game in club football.
The post received more than 14,400 likes and 2,600 re-tweets.

Havertz forced BT Sport’s pitchside reporter to apologise to viewers for the German saying ‘f***’ twice in his post-match interview.
After winning just their second Champions League title, John Terry was trending on Twitter with fans suggesting the Blues legend would be celebrating on the pitch in his kit.
And it also emerged Chelsea’s stars bagged a cool £10million bonus for winning the famous trophy.
The Blues’ heroes had already secured a tasty £5m windfall after beating Real Madrid in the semis earlier this month.
But, despite entering Saturday’s showpiece as heavy underdogs, they never looked like losing after Havertz netted two minutes before half time.
SunSport revealed that mega-rich City’s squad would have trousered around £15m from a bonus pot should they have won, with some players getting more than others.

Man Utd still in talks over Jadon Sancho transfer with move ‘most realistic destination’ for £80m Dortmund winger

MANCHESTER UNITED are still in talks to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho this summer, according to reports. The Europa League finalists have been linked with the England winger for some time and are the bookies’ favourites to sign him.

According to Sky Sports, ‘United represents the most realistic destination’ for Sancho this summer.
It is believed Dortmund will accept around £80million for the player, significantly less than their previous reported asking price of £108m.
The transfer fee is expected to be the biggest stumbling block, with personal terms between United and Sancho’s representatives already rumoured to be agreed.
Dortmund are believed to have identified Lille’s Jonathan Ikone and Monaco’s Sofiane Diop as potential replacements for the Englishman.
Several top European clubs have been linked with Sancho, including Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea.
And it’s easy to see why as he’s been in good form this term, scoring 16 goals in all competitions and helping Dortmund win the German Cup.
And his club colleague Erling Haaland could also be on the move, although he has promised to be ‘respectful’ towards his Dortmund contract.
The Norwegian forward is believed to have a £66m release clause in his existing deal that comes into force next summer.

Chelsea and Tottenham in Jonas Hofmann transfer fight as 28-year-old continues to star at Borussia Monchengladbach

JONAS HOFMANN could become the latest transfer target fought over between Chelsea and Tottenham. The Premier League clubs are both linked with the Borussia Monchengladbach winger ahead of the summer transfer market opening.

According to German outlet Kicker, the 28-year-old is interesting LaLiga clubs as well as Tottenham and Chelsea.
The Blues were reportedly growing their interest in Hofmann in the spring, with rumours pointing towards a £14million price tag.
Thomas Tuchel coached the player at Borussia Dortmund but sold him to Gladbach midway through the 2015-16 season.
Since then, he has continued to impress in the Bundesliga and has reportedly been scouted several times by Spurs in recent months.
Hofmann has bagged eight goals and 13 assists this season despite Borussia’s inconsistent form.
Despite making it out of a tough Champions League group, knocking out Inter Milan in the process, the side finished eighth in the domestic table to miss out on European qualification.
Therefore a sale is said to be on the cards with the English duo tipped to outbid any Spanish rivals for his signature.
Hofmann’s contract runs to 2023 with no release clause to fall back on.

Earlier this year, the German insisted any interest in his services was a compliment to his form.
He told Ruhr Nachrichten in March: “I think it’s clear that other clubs will notice you if you perform well. Therefore, it is possible that one or the other has already asked.”
Chelsea and Spurs have gone head to head for a number of transfer targets in the past, most notably over Brazilian winger Willian, who even underwent a medical in North London before signing for the Blues.

Bayern Munich’s new signing Omar Richards can follow Sancho and Bellingham into England squad, says ex-Reading ace

Williams, 49, told SunSport: “He’s going to be playing with Lewandowski and Thomas Muller, absolutely sensational, world-class players.
“And just to train with them, never mind the matches against Borussia Dortmund and Co, that will make him a better player and develop him for international football.

“If he performs at Bayern Munich I’m sure Southgate will be including him in the England squad.
“It will be hard, because 23 isn’t that young any more when you look at Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden and what they have done.
“So Richards has to make an impact with Bayern pretty soon to get that international recognition.
“But I think Bayern have been very clever to snap him up.

“As a former Reading player, the only downside is that the club won’t get the money they would have got on the open market, which could have been £10-15million.

Ahead of arriving at Allianz Arena on a four-year deal at the end of the month, the Madejski Stadium academy product admitted he was in dreamland.

“My thanks to the management at FC Bayern for their trust. Our  conversations were very convincing and I can’t wait to be on the pitch for Bayern.”
Julian Nagelsmann’s new man is not the first star to quit Berkshire for a crack at the big time.
He follows the likes of Premier League aces Gylfi Sigurdsson, Steve Sidwell and Michail Antonio.
Williams added: “He is the  modern-day footballer — very athletic and has decent distribution.
“But even if it doesn’t work out, the ruthless side of me reckons he will come back to England and into the Premier League as a better player and person for the experience.”
