As quoted by Bild, Mustafi said: “The past six months at Schalke have been bad!
“It hurts because you know it’s a big club in Germany. We relegated, but now I’m here to concentrate on my job.
“It was important for me to go to a club where I am loved!”
Mustafi joined Spanish side Levante at the beginning of September after a difficult few years for club and country.
The German ace, then at Sampdoria, was one of the most sought after defenders in Europe after helping his nation win the World Cup in 2014.
He went on to leave the Italian club for Valencia that summer and continued to impress, earning a move to Arsenal in August 2016.

Gunners fans hoped Mustafi would fix their defensive woes but he struggled to cope in the Premier League, joining Schalke on a free in February.
And his troubles continued in his homeland, playing 13 Bundesliga games as the German giants suffered a surprise relegation.
Mustafi has also not featured for his country since 2017 and faces a huge challenge if he wants to add to his 20 caps.
Shortly after joining Levante, the player said: “From the first moment I liked the idea of coming to Levante.
“We are going to give everything to take the club as high as possible.”

CHELSEA striker Timo Werner is reportedly one of four players being eyed up by Borussia Dortmund to replace Erling Haaland. The Norway international, 21, is expected to depart in 2022 with the player now available for just £64million due to a clause in his contract.

Haaland has already banged in nine goals from seven games for BVB this term, while he scored five times during the recent international break.
And according to SportBild, the ex-Red Bull Salzburg ace is almost certain to leave next year as clubs look to prise him away from Signal Iduna Park.
They state that only Manchester United, City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are able to afford the player.
With Haaland set to be sold, the news outlet claims that Dortmund have already drawn up a four-man shortlist to replace the centre-forward.
Inter Milan ace Lautaro Martinez is believed to be a target, along with Torino ace Andrea Belotti and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram.
And they have also identified a possible swoop for Timo Werner, who has struggled since joining the Blues from RB Leipzig last year.

The 25-year-old scored just six Premier League goals from 35 top-flight games last term.
And he has failed to get on the score sheet from any of his four outings in all competitions this campaign.
It has been said that Dortmund are weighing up whether to bring him back to the Bundesliga, where they believe he will suit boss Marco Rose’s style of play.
But in order to join BVB, the former Stuttgart man would have to take a pay cut to force through the move.

Werner has also been linked with German giants Bayern Munich, where he would be reunited with former Leipzig gaffer Julian Nagelsmann.
His ex-team-mates Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer joined the Bavarian outfit this summer, and the club could look to bring Werner to the Allianz Arena should Robert Lewandowski depart.
Dutch legends Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten recently ripped into the forward for his poor goal return, with his lack of confidence labelled as ‘pathetic’.

Lewandowski was linked with a move to the Premier League this summer after it was reported he wanted a new challenge.
And the Polish hitman has revealed he has no plans to retire anytime soon as strives to stay as one of the world’s best strikers.
He told German paper Bild: “I’m in good shape physically and have the right mentality.
“I can play for many more years, I’m sure at least four more years.
“And then I will see, maybe I can raise the bar even higher.

And the striker’s potent form has led Bayern to attempt to try and keep him beyond his current deal which has two years remaining.
Club chairman Herbert Hainer, 67, said: “We’re happy with Robert. But we don’t have to extend the contract now, we still have two years.
“As I said, I can imagine Robert staying beyond 2023. We’re in permanent talks with all our players, including Lewy. But now is still early.”

Erling Haaland ‘laughed and walked off’ when Gibraltar captain asked for shirt to give to his son

NOT many footballers would turn down swapping shirts with Erling Haaland – let alone one playing in the SEVENTH tier of English football.Yet Hednesford Town striker Reece Styche delivered that extraordinary snub to the planet’s hottest prospect in Oslo last week.

The 32-year-old Gibraltar international scored the best goal of the night – despite Haaland hitting a hat-trick in Norway’s 5-1 win.
But no Gibraltar player rocked up to ask Haaland for his shirt at full-time – and Brummie-born Styche says there was no chance they would begging for it.
He told SunSport: “None of us wanted Haaland’s shirt, so we snubbed him. Last March, our skipper Roy Chipolina asked for Haaland’s shirt when we met in Gibraltar.
“Norway won 3-0 but Haaland never scored, was substituted after an hour and was in a bit of a mood.
“After they’d both done TV interviews, Roy said to him: ‘My little boy’s a massive fan of yours, do you mind swapping jerseys?
“Haaland just looked at him, laughed and walked off! He can buy a lot of things – but he can’t buy class – perhaps the media hype has gone to his head.

“He had the chance to make a little kid’s day, month, year, whatever and he said no. So no-one wanted his shirt in Oslo.
“Maybe he kept it to mark his hat-trick or gave it to a Norwegian fan because it was their first home match with supporters after Covid.”
Borussia Dortmund hitman Haaland, who faces Besiktas in the Champions League tonight, is wanted by Manchester City next summer.
He may be heading for the big time but Styche admits representing 195th ranked nation Gibraltar means the world to him.
He added: “I’ve represented Gibraltar 16 times and we don’t receive caps, like the home nations.

“So I don’t need Haaland’s top as a memento. My goal is down in history and I’ll always have the memories stored in my head.”
Styche struck two minutes before half-time with a brilliant flick into the top corner, for his record-equalling third goal for his country.
“I remember vividly looking at the screens after 34 minutes and saying out loud: ‘Don’t let this opportunity pass you by Reece.’
“Five minutes later Haaland made it 3-0. But four minutes after that our press won the ball back and I always knew I was going to dink the goalkeeper to score.”
Styche, who is an accountant for Bromsgrove-based Safety Technology International, dreams of playing for Gibralter against England at Wembley one day.

He already has an England C shirt which he won against Portugal when he was playing for Wycombe Wanderers.
Now, he plies his trade in the Southern Premier Central League and followed up scoring against the Norwegians, by being blanked out by Barwell in front of 405 fans for Hednesford 72 hours later.
He added: “It brings you back down to earth but that’s my bread and butter. International football is just a ridiculous privilege I have and I’ll never take it for granted.”

Chelsea flop Timo Werner ’70 per cent likely’ to complete Bayern Munich transfer next summer amid links with Nagelsmann

TIMO WERNER is reportedly ’70 per cent likely’ to swap Chelsea for Bayern Munich next summer to reunite with Julian Nagelsmann. The 25-year-old only departed the Bundesliga last year to link up with the Blues from RB Leipzig, but he could be set to return to his native Germany.

Werner – without a goal from his three Blues outings this term – mustered just six Premier League strikes from 35 games last campaign.
And with the West Londoners bringing in Romelu Lukaku for £97.5million, Werner’s chances in the first-team could be limited.
According to German news outlet Sport1, all signs point towards a move to Bavaria where he could potentially replace Robert Lewandowski.
The Poland international, 33, is understood to be keen for a fresh challenge away from Bayern after seven trophy-laden years with the Munich outfit.
It has been said that former RB Leipzig boss Nagelsmann, now manager at Bayern, is in regular contact with Werner.
He is claimed to be Bayern’s alternative to Erling Haaland should they fail to prise the £64m striker away from Borussia Dortmund.

Werner’s name has been discussed among the Allianz Arena hierarchy who would welcome him at the club.
Should he join Bayern, Werner would not only be reunited with Nagelsmann, but also former Leipzig team-mates Dayot Upamencano and Marcel Sabitzer.
Despite Werner’s struggles in front of goal for Chelsea, the 2021 Champions League winner has been in inspired form for Germany.
The centre-forward scored in all three of Germany’s World Cup qualifiers during the international break.
Though he was guilty of another horrendous miss from close range in Wednesday’s 4-0 win against Iceland.
Prior to bagging his 19th goal for Germany, the ex-Stuttgart ace failed to tuck away a chance from around seven yards out.

And fans were quick to have their say on social media.
One quipped: “Keeper wasn’t even troubled enough to take a look.”
Another remarked: “Three guarantees in life: Death, taxes and Werner missing open goals.”

And he has shown Gibraltar what to expect of him on Tuesday night ahead of their clash after sharing a clip of him from a training shooting drill.
In a clip tweeted to his 1.1 million followers, Haaland can be seen smashing in a volley just under the crossbar after a coach threw the ball in the air.
The ex-Red Bull Salzburg ace simply walked off laughing, leaving his supporters in awe.
Commenting on the video, one user said: “I’ve never seen anyone hit a ball harder.”

Another wrote: “This lad is going to break all records , can’t wait to see him in the Prem and hitting rockets like this.”

Despite the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all keen to sign Haaland in 2022 for £64million, Arsene Wenger believes he is destined to play in England.
He told Bild: “I think that will happen [a move to England]. The economic power of the Premier League is too strong.
“English football is dominant because it is where the most money is. The best players always go the best way to make the most money.

Chelsea ‘interested in shock Leroy Sane transfer swoop with Thomas Tuchel huge fan of struggling Bayern Munich star’

LEROY SANE could be on his way back to the Premier League just one year after leaving Manchester City for the Bundesliga. According to the Express Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel ‘is a fan’ of the 25-year-old winger.

Arsenal and Tottenham are also rumoured to be interested in the struggling Sane.
But the report suggests Chelsea are in a better position to make a move with the offer of Champions League football, and there are three players that could be sent the other way in a possible swap deal.
One of those is Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was linked with a loan move to Borussia Dortmund during the closing stages of the transfer window.
But fellow Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have also had Hudson-Odoi ‘on their radar’ for some time according to the Express, and the Blues could sanction a move.

The Stamford Bridge side refused to let Hudson-Odoi join Borussia Dortmund on loan because they failed to bring in a replacement, but the potential capture of Leroy Sane could change that.
Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have also been touted as possible bargaining tools by the Express.

Sane has struggled to make a real impact for the Bavarian giants after his initial £44million move from Manchester City in July 2020.
At the time of his move transfermarkt valued Sane at £72million, but that valuation has now dropped to £54million in just over 12 months.
The 25-year-old managed just six goals in 32 Bundesliga games last campaign, and is goalless in a further three appearances so far this season.

His form has led to rumours of a Premier League return with Sane yet to complete 90 minutes for Bayern Munich in the 2021/22 Bundesliga season.
And Sane has already proven his worth in England’s top flight, scoring 25 times and providing 31 assists in 90 Premier League games for Manchester City.
He played a total of 135 times for the Cityzens after joining from Schalke in 2016.
During that time he won the Premier League and League Cup twice, as well as one FA Cup.
