Watch Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s blazing on-air row with Des Kelly over BT Sport’s lunchtime kick-offs

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp was involved in an incredible blazing on-air row with Des Kelly over BT Sport’s lunchtime kick-offs.
The Reds boss was fuming after seeing another one of his players succumb to injury as his side slipped to a 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp voiced his fury at BT Sport’s lunchtime kickoffs

The Reds chief was enraged after James Milner added to his club’s injury woes in the 1-1 draw at Brighton

James Milner, who had been depustising as Liverpool’s right-back for the second-half at the Amex, was forced off late with a hamstring problem.
Klopp was then forced to turn to 19-year-old midfielder Curtis Jones with first-choice defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez all sidelined.
The mounting injury issues have led to the German being a vocal critic of early Saturday matches for teams playing in Europe – with the Reds having faced Atalanta on Wednesday evening.
And after his early kick-off fears were realised Klopp launched into a furious tirade only to be challenged by BT Sport reporter Des Kelly.

    Here’s the full transcript…
KELLY: Jurgen that’s a painful set back. We are talking about VAR again. Was it just? Was it right? Was it correct?
KLOPP: The two offside I didn’t see but I asked our analyst and he said yeah. It was really close, with Mo it was a foot but we are used to armpits and club badges, so if it is a toe then it is offside and the other one with Sadio I heard was clear. The penalty, yeah, it is how it is. The decisions were right yes.
KELLY: You think the decisions were right. Jordan Henderson says some of the Brighton players agreed that it wasn’t a penalty.

I don’t know how often I have to say it: you pick us for 12:30 kick-offs. You picked it. Not you, personally. But you did, didn’t you?
    Jurgen Klopp

KLOPP: Look, you try to create again on my cost, you do, a headline because that is how it is. I said it was not a penalty because the ref blew his whistle. Don’t look like that, you try always all the time. Today I say it was a penalty and you are not happy with that answer. What do you want to hear? Then keep your answers to yourself.
KELLY: I was just telling you what your players said…
KLOPP: The players were close, I saw it. I said it was a pen because the ref whistled it after watching it.
KELLY: Okay so you agree with their decisions. In terms of the performance today then?
KLOPP: Very good. Very good. I couldn’t be more proud of the boys. You know what we said before the game what a possession team Brighton is but today I couldn’t see that. The boys played like we had to play the first half an hour. We struggled a bit with the last line with the balls in behind because we didn’t drop in the right moment. We got that sorted in the first half and in the second half we had no problems but we did have a problem with energy and we sat deeper and it was harder but the situation around the goals we scored were brilliant, even if they were disallowed. Mo’s goal was a brilliant goal. Sadio’s header was outstanding. The goal we scored was really cool. That was all good but that’s how it is at the moment. Its tough times.
KELLY: You warned us about Connolly before the game. You said he would cause problems and he was getting in behind through the lines.
KLOPP: Only two opportunities to defend that. You have to avoid the pass or drop in the right moment as he is running through gaps. We spoke before the game, the last line is not settled together but that is normal. You sometimes have to learn in the game. The boys did that, that was really good. Nate Phillips was exceptional so that was all good. In football always you need a bit of luck to win a tough away game and we didn’t have it so it was a draw
KELLY: Jota scoring run keeps going. He has slotted in so brilliantly.

Milner was forced off injured against Brighton on Saturday

Klopp comforted the midfielder as he headed off the field
KLOPP: It was just a good goal. The front three played really good together. It worked out really good.
KELLY: Mo Salah didn’t look to happy to be coming off early. I assume you are planning ahead for that, and what’s the information with James Milner?
KLOPP: On a day when Mo Salah is smiling when he leaves the pitch then I don’t know, something is really wrong. I get it 100 per cent. The problem is he had Covid and was out for 12 days and trained once, then played 60 minutes and three days later plays again. We just have to be careful. He doesn’t like that I know that but that’s it.
KELLY: And James Milner, hamstring is it?
    KLOPP: Yeah, congratulations.
    KELLY: Me personally?
KLOPP: No but you work for them yeah? Hamstring. Surprise. They had injuries as well because it’s a tough time. But ask Chris Wilder how we can avoid that.
KELLY: Maybe you’re firing at the wrong target.

Chris Wilder or whoever, constantly say I’m selfish. I think all the things he’s said shows that he’s selfish
    Jurgen Klopp

    KLOPP: Sorry?
KELLY: Maybe you’re firing at the wrong target. We are broadcasters. We work within the premier league rules and the premier league makes the rules. That’s the premier league clubs. So shouldn’t you be talking to premier league clubs? Shouldn’t you be talking to chief executives?
KLOPP: I don’t know how often I have to say it. You picked the 1230 kick-off. You. Not you personally but you did. Us on 12.30. Between now and December and New Year, there’s one more Wednesday and Saturday 12.30 kick-off.
KELLY: When you say ‘you picked the 12.30’, the Premier League clubs chose that slot. There’s a reason that slot is there, because it’s valuable to the Premier League.
    KLOPP: These are difficult times.
KELLY: Of course it’s difficult, the stadiums are empty and the broadcasters are supporting the game.
KLOPP: But if you play at 3pm, or 5.30pm, it’s exactly the same.
KELLY: That has different ramifications. Your chief executives and other chief executives should be having that discussion. If you come down here and just have a go at the broadcaster, it doesn’t go anywhere, it’s not going to change anything.
KLOPP: I’m not having a go at the broadcasters, I just say how it is.
KELLY: You said it was criminal.
KLOPP: Playing 12:30 after Wednesday is really dangerous for the Premier League players.

KELLY: You also said the broadcasters don’t care and that’s the problem. That isn’t the problem…
KLOPP: Why did you pick us against Crystal Palace if you care?
KELLY: Well, I didn’t pick it but every pick is agreed by the Premier League, with every executive around that table.
KLOPP: It’s such a special season. You always rely on things we agreed in another time…
    KELLY: No, no, no.
    KLOPP: Yes you did.
KELLY: If it’s about Premier League player welfare why did the Premier League clubs block five subs?
KLOPP: That’s very interesting. Because when we had the talk between the managers a week ago, it was 15-5 or 16-4 in favour of five subs. But since then nothing happened. You need at least at least 14 votes and Chris Wilder or whoever, constantly say I’m selfish. I think all the things he’s said shows that he’s selfish but that’s not too important. I was in a similar situation as he is when I worked at Mainz – all about staying in the league. But now they [can make] three subs and have one point. So there’s no advantage or disadvantage. If you can do five subs in a game like this, it’s not for tactical reasons. For example, if we have had five subs today I would have taken off Robbo for Kostas to save Robbo, not to make our game better. It’s just to save the players. Of course I save my players. But it’s for all players. You will it from now on until December. We will see.

KELLY: We agree with you and I understand what you’re saying, but you’re going about it a strange way. You’re attacking the broadcaster instead of getting the support you need in the way you need in the Premier League meeting.
KLOPP: You will get praise for your interview because you stuck to [your point], so, great. What I want to say is that I only go for the broadcasters for the Wednesday and 12.30 [on Saturday]. Only seven managers have a similar problem and we all agree. I should stop doing it, and I want to, as it doesn’t help. The problem is we signed this contract… in this season it’s a bigger problem, no pre-season, because of the intensity, the shorter season etc. When we get this slot, it’s not OK. Have a look how many – I am not selfish but I obviously speak about Liverpool -when this year is over, we’ve had this slot three times. Who else has had it three times? No one. Of course it’s a problem for me to pick a team. That’s my problem.
KELLY: The problem is we can’t change it that way. We have to change it via the boardroom that we are talking about. But we could probably go on forever. Thanks Jurgen.

Premier League clubs set for PPV U-turn as country enters second coronavirus lockdown

PREMIER LEAGUE clubs are poised to make a pay-per-view U-turn — because of lockdown.
They have been under pressure to make a decision on what to do with the games not being shown on Sky or BT after the international break.

Premier League games could be broadcast for free again this monthCredit: AFP and licensors

The top flight had been veering towards cutting the controversial £14.95-a-game charge to either £9.95 or £7.50.
But with the country now under lockdown until December 2, Prem bosses are set to suggest the best option would be a short-term return to the Project Restart situation, where all matches were available to fans.
Leicester were the only side to vote against PPV last month but other clubs have now changed their minds following a fan-led backlash.
Under league rules, any decision must be agreed by at least 14 clubs.

But there remain a number of teams, including some of the Big Six, who argue that £14.95 is more than reasonable for a “premium product”.
A final decision is not expected today, as any agreement must be squared with broadcasters.

During the end to the 2019-20 season in June and July, matches were shown on Sky, BT, the BBC and Amazon Prime.
Sky and BT in particular felt that diminished the value of their current deal, which is worth more than £1.7billon per season.

A similar scenario could see clubs hit with a demand for a further repayment on top of the £340million cost of last term’s Covid-19 chaos.

Premier League matches will cost £14.95 on PPV Box Office channels with Man Utd and Chelsea games among first clashes More

Sky Sports set to seal WSL broadcasting rights from rivals BT Sport with deal to be announced in coming weeks

SKY SPORTS are set to nick the Women’s Super League broadcasting rights from rivals BT Sport – with a deal to be announced in the coming weeks.
The broadcaster is said to be on the brink of sealing a contract that kick-starts from the beginning of the 2021-22 season.

Sky Sports are on the brink sealing broadcasting rights for the 2021-22 WSL season

The new deal is yet to be confirmed but SunSport understands that an announcement will be made soon.
For the first time ever, the FA made fixtures available for tenure for the next campaign in a bid to rake in more profit for the women’s game.
This is opposed to previous years in which they were provided for free to the likes of BT Sport and the BBC to cover at their own cost.
It is believed that Sky Sports were attracted to the women’s top-flight after viewing figures in England more than doubled since 2017.

A peak TV audience of 270,000 tuned in to watch Chelsea face off with Spurs in September last year.

And more than two million people tuned in to watch the BBC’s Women’s Football Show after football returned after the coronavirus crisis.
Arsenal snatched the North London bragging rights in front of a record WSL crowd of 38,262 last year at the Tottenham Stadium.
The attendance far outstripped the previous record of 31,213 set at the Etihad for the Manchester derby at the start of the same season.

Eddie Hearn claims Kell Brook and Dominic Ingle dropped him over money as Matchroom boss hits back

EDDIE HEARN has accused Kell Brook of axing him and trainer Dominic Ingle for financial reasons.
The Sheffield welterweight, 32, cut his long-time promoter and coach out of a £2million deal to fight WBO champion Terence Crawford on November 14.

Brook blamed Hearn for Sky Sports turning their back on him and accused the Matchroom boss of being too busy promoting his new book to work on his fight.
Hearn tried to bite his tongue but Brook’s fans piled in on social media — and now the Essex matchmaker has hit back.
He said: “I’ve done a lot with Kell and I thought I was going to rise above it.
“But then I started getting people on Twitter saying, ‘It’s bang out of order what you’ve done to Kell Brook’.

“I have so many problems on my plate right now getting fights for people who are with me and I thought, you know what, I’m going to let you know the truth.
“It wasn’t like they came to me and said, ‘Let’s work a deal’.
“They were whoring themselves to everyone else first. They tried BT, ITV, Channel 5, DAZN . . . I think they tried everybody and got turned down.
“And then they came to me asking for money!”

Kell Brook (right) was one of Eddie Hearn’s earliest signings and has consistently boxed on Sky in the pastCredit: PA:Press Association
Brook, along with Darren Barker and Carl Froch, was one of Hearn’s earliest signings.
The promoter always defended his former charge over the ill- discipline that regularly left him struggling to make the 10st 7lb welterweight limit.

People are accusing me of hanging him out to dry — but he’s making £2m to fight Crawford and just didn’t want to pay me
    Eddie Hearn

He said: “What was so  disheartening for me was when he questioned my loyalty. I went way above and beyond trying to help Kell.
“I flew to Fuerteventura when he was in hospital after getting stabbed (right), sorting out all his  medical insurance, lots of things.
“We’ve had some good times and it’s sad really.
“I feel really sorry for Dominic Ingle also because he has done everything for him from day one and they have got a big cash fight and got rid of him for it.

Eddie Hearn says he is ‘gutted’ his relationship with Kell Brook has deteriorated Credit: LAWRENCE LUSTIG
“I don’t think he wasted too much time chasing the Amir Khan fight, I think he wasted too much time away from the gym.
“Lots of times I had to drive up to Sheffield to help keep him on track.
“But now people are accusing me of hanging him out to dry — but he’s making £2m to fight Crawford and just didn’t want to pay me. That’s all.”
Hearn seems genuinely gutted his relationship with Brook has gone down the pan.
But he wished him the best against Crawford, despite worries about lack of a proper game-plan.

Hearn added: “What I will say is, he is on weight. He’s trained hard and he’s fit, but you can’t just be fit to fight Crawford.
“You have to have a game-plan.
“Kell saying, ‘I’ve got one, I’ve been watching Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder’ isn’t going to cut it”.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s tactics revealed as BT Sport zoom in on board in Dundalk clash

MIKEL ARTETA’S tactics were exposed by BT Sport during their Europa League clash with Dundalk.
The TV cameras cut to the Gunners boss in the early stages of the Group B game at the Emirates.

The board appeared to show part of a formation line-upCredit: BT Sport

And eagle-eyed viewers noticed a tactics board open in the background – before producers then zoomed in on the open notes to make sure everyone saw.
The plans appeared to show a line-up formation graphic with part of Arsenal’s shape possibly featuring a back three.
And just as the tactics board may have suggested, the Gunners lined up with Shkodran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka and Sead Kolasinac as the three central defenders for the European tie against the Irish minnows.

But it appeared Dundalk were wise to their Premier League opponents’ tactical flip as they surprisingly frustrated Arsenal for most of the first half – until the floodgates opened just before the break.
Plenty of fans on social media at home were baffled by the Spaniard’s tactics being revealed.
One said: “Arteta is so confident today, he’s letting everyone see his tactics.”
Another wrote: “Arteta cover your tactics!”

A third added: “Arteta PR is unreal! There is no way that “tactics board” was placed there by accident.”
One user joked: “Looks like he’s playing connect four tbh.”
And Paddy Power tweeted: “Arteta has his tactics book wide open, the fool. Someone text this to the Dundalk coaching staff immediately.”

BT Sport’s state-of-the-art new app lets fans virtually enter Man Utd’s stadium and dressing room

BT SPORT’S new Match Day Experience is taking football fans behind the scenes at Premier League clubs – and even Rio Ferdinand is impressed.
The broadcasters are harnessing the power of 5G to deliver augmented reality offerings that puts users right into the heart of areas normally out of bounds for the public.

    6

Users will have a choice of where and how to access, then a portal will appear

    6

Soon you will be in the Man Utd dugout, ready for the big game

Simply lock in on a spot in your living room and suddenly a portal opens letting you walk into the dressing rooms at Elland Road or Old Trafford.
The user is suddenly right there in the inner sanctum of the biggest clubs in England, able to explore and get a genuine feel for what the Premier League stars experience.
Former Manchester United and England captain Ferdinand said: “The dressing room was the place where no-one was able to go so to see inside is amazing.

“Even now, I’m intrigued to look at what the changing rooms are like right now.

“I’ve been in there at Leeds, but I haven’t been in there for 15-18 years, wherever is. So it’s intriguing for me to get that opportunity to go in and have a look.
“I wanted to have it and I think fans will be the same because and even looking at things like the difference in size of the home and away changing rooms.
“There is a massive difference in like luxuriousness of a home changing compared to it away changing rooms.
“Then when you see Old Trafford, they’ve expanded the home dressing room so much and you can see the gadgets that are in there now. For a fan to be able to see in there I think is a great added value.”

    6

Fans can then get to see what the players do on match-days – under current restrictions anyway

The app feature, which will start to be available to EE subscribers this month, shows content filmed behind the scenes at all the top flight grounds, including the walk out of the tunnel onto the pitch.
There is also the option to ‘Watch Together’ in a live split-screen experience with friends and families through Augmented Reality.
Fans will also be able to watch the game from any angle – with an incredible new 360-degree camera feature.
But it also involves real time stats and even a split screen function which allows pals to connect during matches while they are sat in separate homes.

    6

The Man Utd trophy room might take a bit of time out of the day
And Ferdinand says the capability to deliver real time stats will allow him to do his job as a pundit for BT Sport more easily.
He added: “There are things that bring a bit of realism to the game, like the speed with which a player runs to get on to a ball.
“You can see someone has scored a goal and then ‘oh, he’s running 21km an hour’.
“All that data I can use as a pundit now as well. Normally we outsource all this data, and you’ll be waiting for it to arrive.
“Now this is live, I get it there and then, there isn’t any waiting about.
“I get it and can put it into what I’m looking to do at half time or full time. It really makes my job a little bit easier as well.”
Match Day Experience on the BT Sport app, the UK’s most immersive sports viewing service, will be inclusive for new customers taking the Full Works iPhone plan with the new 5G iPhone. Visit ee.co.uk for more from October 16.

Sky Sports and BT Sport REFUSE to announce amount of pay-per-views sold in first weekend as angry fans turn off

SKY SPORTS and BT Sport have REFUSED to announce the amount of pay-per-views sold during the first weekend of the controversial scheme as angry fans turned off.
The broadcasting giants have both introduced a £14.95 fee for games that would not ordinarily have been televised, starting this weekend.

    2

Sky Sports and BT Sport have refused to release their PPV figures for the opening weekend

Four games were part of the PPV plan over the weekend.
But fuming fans promised to switch off in the build-up to them.
Sky nor BT have failed to release the details of their PPV sales – as supporters raged at the lack of punditry for Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with Southampton.
Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle was one of the four games on PPV this weekend.

United legend Gary Neville refused to stump up the fee to watch.
And angry supporters in Newcastle opted to give their £15 to local charity, NUFC Fans Food Bank.
On Saturday alone, the charity raked in £12,000, with the weekend total rising to a staggering £19,000.

The generous donations proved fans were more keen to spend their money on a worthwhile cause, rather than a money-making scheme from an already-mega-rich company.

    2

In the weekend’s final PPV match, Burnley will take on West Brom on Monday night – again costing would-be viewers £14.95.
But it’s likely most fans will continue their boycott – with a Change.org petition even being set up, entitled ‘Stop Pay Per View Football’.
Broadcasters felt the need to introduce the £14.95 fee, as clubs had hoped to have at least some fans back inside stadiums by October.
With fan-absence costing clubs an average of £100million per month, officials claimed they could no longer give away their product for free.
Clubs were also forced to pay a rebate to broadcasters at the end of last season due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Premier League matches will cost £14.95 on PPV Box Office channels with Man Utd and Chelsea games among first clashes More
