Watch Marcus Rashford’s Man Utd opener get MISSED as BT Sport feed shows replay of Granada attack

FANS nearly missed Marcus Rashford’s goal at Granada after BT Sport’s feed was too busy showing a replay of a failed attack at the other end.Rashford, 23, gave the Red Devils a first-half lead – and crucial away goal – in his side’s Europa League quarter-final first-leg after just half an hour before Bruno Fernandes’ penalty made it 2-0 in the dying embers.

The Spanish feed being used on BT Sport was too busy showing a replay of a failed Granada attack, missing the build-up to Rashford’s goal
The England forward poked home a great ball from Victor Lindelof to hand Man Utd the advantage.
But the Spanish TV director missed the build-up to the goal after showing a replay of a failed Granada attack.
In the UK, the game was being shown on BT Sport – with the British broadcasters quick to distance themselves from the blame.
In a subtle tweet, they wrote: “Blink and you’ll miss Man Utd’s opening goal vs Granada…
“The Spanish TV director certainly did.”
Fans were quick to joke the director was probably still in shock from the STREAKER who’d earlier invaded the pitch.
One viewer joked: “I think the streaker might have put him off his game.”
Another said: “Miss a tasty goal but get to see a hairy naked man – swings & roundabouts really!”

No fans were allowed in for the Europa League quarter-final against Granada on Thursday night.
But that didn’t stop one fan from getting into the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Los Carmenes.
And he ran right across the middle of the pitch, causing a delay in the last-eight tie.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were only briefly held up as Spanish police moved in to escort the man away, with United netting the all-important opener 20 minutes later.

John Terry calls for Sky Sports to reclaim Champions League coverage from BT Sport as he watches Chelsea beat Porto

JOHN TERRY has called on Sky Sports to reclaim Champions League broadcasting rights from BT Sport.Sky shared rights with ITV until 2015, when BT shelled out around £1BILLION to snatch the world’s biggest club competition away.
JT called for Sky Sports to reclaim the Champions League rightsCredit: Instagram johnterry.26
But JT, 40, didn’t appear to enjoy their coverage of his former side’s clash with Porto on Wednesday night – which happened to feature former verbal sparring partner Robbie Savage on commentary.
Terry posted an image of the game on his telly to Instagram, captioned: “@SkySports please get hold of the Champions League”.
Savage, 46, was on commentary duty alongside Darren Fletcher, and has clashed with Terry in the past.
When JT endured a rough patch during the 2015-16 season, Savage ‘dug him out’, claiming that the Chelsea skipper had entered the ‘beginning of the end’ at Stamford Bridge.
Terry took exception to this at the time, hitting back: “I’ve come under criticism, individually, from certain players and individuals, players I’ve looked up to and played alongside.
“I’ve taken that on the chin: Rio, Carra, Neville, the very best I’ve come up against in the game.
“I take that on the chin. When others speak, maybe I don’t take it on the chin.
“When players have not had a career, played at a really bad level in their career… Robbie Savage being one.

“He’s dug me out a couple of times. You take it as a footballer, as an individual. I’ll take it from the Rios, Carraghers and Neville. All day long. From others? Nah”
Savage hit back: “John’s entitled to his opinion.
“It’s a shame he thinks 99 per cent of the industry – those of us who have not won the title or Champions League titles – is unqualified to express theirs.”
Terry is set to be disappointed, however, with BT Sport to remain the home of European football for at least another three seasons.
In 2019, they agreed a three-year extension from 2021 to 2024, paying around £400million a season for the rights.

DAZN target Premier League rights to rival Amazon and increase foothold in UK after launching with big boxing fights

DAZN are ready to target Premier League rights after launching in the UK. The streaming platform have focused on big boxing fights but are set to rival Amazon in a bid to secure football coverage.

New chairman Kevin Mayer told CNBC: “To have staying power, you need to deliver the sports that matter to consumers no matter where they are. And those are the local sports.
“So in the UK, the English Premier League and maybe some cricket and maybe some rugby.
“In Germany, it’s Bundesliga, which is their equivalent of the EPL. In Japan, it’s baseball.
“So you have to get those local rights in those countries. And that’s how you can make a real service take hold.”
DAZN launched in the UK in December with Canelo Alvarez’s fight against Callum Smith showcasing the streaming service.
But the platform, which is owned by billionaire Len Blavatnik, want to expand into Premier League football and are set to provide competition to Amazon.
In 2019, Amazon started broadcasting matches after agreeing a three-year deal.
The £90million package gives them 20 matches a season, spread over two rounds, but Amazon have shown additional matches due to the pandemic stopping fans from attending.

The auction for UK broadcasting rights for the 2022-25 seasons starts later this year and DAZN are expected to bid for coverage.
Mayer said: “Yeah, I think we are positioned to do it. We have the capital to do it, and Len Blavatnik is committed to it. And it’s going to work.
“It’s a flywheel that happens. Once it starts spinning, you can create momentum.”

BT Sport plays West Ham’s ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’ chant during Arsenal’s win at Leicester leaving fans baffled

FANS were left baffled during Arsenal’s victory over Leicester… as BT Sport started pumping in West Ham chants.
With the away side in firm control during the second half, viewers may have expected to hear a round or two of ‘Ooh to be a Gooner’.

But they didn’t even muster a drone of ‘Arsenal, Arsenal’.
Instead, fans were treated to a round of the famous West Ham anthem ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’.
The tune has been a Hammers song for decades, and may well have been appropriate when Michail Antonio equalised against Manchester City yesterday on BT.
But its appearance during today’s King Power Stadium coverage was bizarre.

The sound operator also managed to fit in another Hammers chant, ‘My Name Is Ludo Miklosko’, after their popular nineties goalkeeper.
And fans on social media were quick to notice.
One wrote: “Whoever is doing the crowd noise for BT for the Arsenal Leicester game is defo a West Ham fan playing bubbles and our song for Ludo”.
While another joked: “BT Sport producer playing West Ham away fan noise as can’t find anything in the Arsenal archives! Just heard Bubbles…”

West Ham fans enjoyed the bizarre gaffe

And a third quipped: “Great win and a special mention to BT sport for the West Ham soundtrack in the second half. Elite coverage”.
Another Hammer seemed to enjoy the presentation: “BT Sport have acknowledged that this is the preferred result for West Ham by pressing the “Crowd Noise: I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” button.”
And a fellow West Ham fan agreed: “Good to hear BT sport playing bubbles from the West Ham fans in their fake noise”.
Arsenal capped off a great week of comebacks by overcoming the Foxes from a goal down in the East Midlands.
Youri Tielemans had given Leicester an early lead, before goals from David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe saw Arsenal grab all three points.

‘Cursed’ Rio Ferdinand mocked after Man Utd icon’s ‘top of the league’ claim backfires after Sheffield United loss

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are pleading with Rio Ferdinand to ‘stop jinxing’ his old team’s title bid.
Sheffield United inflicted a shock 2-1 defeat on the Red Devils on Wednesday night.

The result came after Ferdinand had shared a tweet showing his satisfaction at seeing United sit top of the table earlier in the week.
Many fans have noticed the ex-defender’s tendency to display his joy at his former club’s success… just as their form crumbles.
Ferdinand’s now-infamous ‘Ole’s at the wheel’ comment after the win over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2018-19 Champions League is often brought up, with the Norwegian still yet to win a trophy as United manager.
And the 42-year-old tweeted a photograph of himself looking pensive on Tuesday evening, with the caption: “Is that the Premier League table there?”

Later that night, Manchester City leapfrogged their neighbours with a crushing 5-0 win over West Brom.
United then fluffed their lines as goals from Kean Bryan and Oli Burke secured a stunning win at Old Trafford for bottom club Sheffield United.
Ferdinand’s followers were left chuckling and jokingly telling him to ‘delete his account’ after the defeat.
Twitter user Kirsty wrote online: “Can you just tweet after the season ends?”

Another follower tweeted: “I hate you man stop jinxing.”
Alex added: “Jesus Rio just stop haha, save being cocky till May!”
And one fan remarked: “Rio, whatever you’re about to say, don’t say it, don’t say anything, please, we will wheel you out in May to be as shameless as you want if we actually manage to win this thing, but until then just, don’t, y’know, don’t jinx it.”
The Old Trafford legend tweeted that the result was ‘just a blip’ but was less kind towards his old side when analysing the game for BT Sport.
He said: “They didn’t have that zip about them.
“From minute one, really, there wasn’t that cut and thrust we’ve seen from United.

“Credit Sheffield United, Chris Wilder set them up very well, but United didn’t ask the questions.
“Bruno Fernandes, who they’ve relied on so heavily in recent weeks, months, didn’t get it going today. Paul Pogba the same.
“If anybody was starting to get carried away at Old Trafford, with the position that they’re on, it was a reality check.

“I think recently Man Utd, in terms of reaction, have been brilliant but tonight it seemed to come crumbling down.
“[Marcus] Rashford and [Anthony] Martial were invisible, didn’t get on the end of anything, didn’t create anything.
“Last week Liverpool, tremendous performance. Bottom of the league Sheffield United. Dour, lifeless at times. The inconsistencies, they don’t win you the league.”

Inter 2 AC Milan 1 LIVE REACTION: Eriksen nets dramatic late winner after Ibrahimovic and Lukaku clash in fiery derby

    THANKS FOR JOINING US
That’s all from us tonight as Inter left it late to defeat their oldest rivals and progress to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.
Christian Eriksen’s 98th minute free kick saw the Nerazzuri come from behind after Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring before half time and Romelu Lukaku equalised from the spot.
Next up for Antonio Conte’s side is a home clash with Benevento on Saturday in Serie A, before the Coppa Italia semi-final a week tomorrow.
The Nerazzuri will discover their opponents for that game tomorrow evening.
AC Milan meanwhile are also next in action on Saturday as they travel to Bologna looking to extend their lead at the top of Serie A.
    That’s all for now though.
Thanks for joining us, it’s been a pleasure.

    MATCH REPORT
Plenty to talk about from tonight’s clash is an understatement.
There were goals, altercations, a sending off, a VAR awarded penalty, a referee substitution, ten added minutes AND a 98th minute winner.

    STEFANO SPEAKS
AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli said this to RAI Sport at full time:
“It’s disappointing that we went out, because we cared about this competition.
“The performance shows we are a strong team who can hold out well, but going a man down made it much more difficult.”
On the altercation between Lukaku and Ibrahimovic:
“The situation was an influence, as the first yellow card then led to the second. They are two giants, they said something to each other, I don’t know what. It happens, we have to look forward.
“What didn’t work was that down to 10 men, it was much more complicated, and we were naïve with the foul to give away the penalty.
“However, I leave this defeat feeling much more positive and confident about our future than I was after the Atalanta game.
“It was a very balanced match, the only difference was having a man down. If it was 11 against 11, it was open to any result and we were 1-0 up.”

    98TH MINUTE WINNER
Here’s a look at Christian Eriksen’s late winner.

Christian Eriksen steps up when it matters most for Inter! A wonderful free-kick deep in Coppa Italia stoppage time…What a moment to send his team through to the semi-finals at their rivals’ expense! 🎯 pic.twitter.com/3M7V8CqnGM

    GAME RECAP
So Inter win the Milan Derby to progress to the Semi-Finals of the Coppa Italia.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring for AC Milan in the first half before he and Romelu Lukaku were booked for an altercation on the stroke of half time.
Ibrahimovic was then sent off after a second booking for a trip on Kolorov.
Romelu Lukaku scored from the spot to level the scores after referee Paulo Valeri consulted the pitchside monitor to award Inter a penalty for a foul on Nico Barella.
Referee Valeri then had to be substituted after picking up an injury, with the game being delayed for almost ten minutes as the fourth offical took on the refereeing duties
Christian Eriksen then came off the bench to curl a free kick into the top corner in the 98th minute to send Inter through to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

    NICO’S THOUGHTS
These are the full time thoughts of Nico Barella:
“Milan are a strong side, but we proved that we are at their level.
“In fact, we proved that we are stronger. We hope to continue like this.
“It’s an open race for the Scudetto, they are strong, but we want to beat everyone.”
Does Barella know that this was actually a Coppa Italia game?

    MATCH WINNER
Christian Eriksen celebrates netting the winning goal in the 98th minute of the game.
He hasn’t had the easiest times in Milan since his switch from Spurs last January, but his winning free kick showed the quality he still has.
What a game, and what a way to end it.
