Jadon Sancho excites Rio Ferdinand by revealing he and Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes are already linking up in training

JADON SANCHO revealed to an excited Rio Ferdinand that he and Bruno Fernandes are linking up well in training and how he’s ‘buzzing’ for Manchester United’s opening day clash with Leeds. Ferdinand, 42, smiled and said ‘that’s what I like to hear’ as Sancho told of his and Fernandes’ relationship on the training pitch since the 21-year-old’s £73million move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United fans are yet to catch a glimpse of their new signing in action, as the young winger only returned to training this week following his exploits with England at the Euros.
But fans could witness their star signing lighting up the Theatre of Dreams in their opening Premier League fixture against rivals Leeds on Saturday, with Sancho reportedly in line to start.
When asked by Ferdinand what the fans can expect from him at United, Sancho responded: “Goals, assists, a bit of flair. I’m definitely eager to win.”
The youngster also revealed that he spoke to new teammates Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford about signing for United whilst away with England.
He said: “I think it’s a great squad, and speaking to Luke and H [Maguire] and Marcus while I was away at the Euros, they were telling me that it’s a great bunch of lads.”
I love winning, it’s my mentalityJadon Sancho
Sancho also spoke about watching United play last season ahead of his potential move, adding: “I watched some of the games last season and the attack is very good. To be a part of that now is going to be kind of crazy.
“I seen what Bruno was doing, I seen what Marcus was doing, Greenwood and Cavani. To add more goals and assists to that is going to be exciting.”
The former England defender also pressed Sancho on his roots growing up in South London and how that’s influenced his style of playing. He said: “I think that’s why a lot of the kids are so excited about you [Sancho] coming.
“You’re one of the few players in football now who’s kind of brought that ‘street football’ to the stadiums.”
I had a lot of doubters and one of my main things was to prove the doubters wrong. I’m happy I’ve done that. Jadon Sancho
With the star’s preferred number 7 already taken by Edinson Cavani, Sancho will have to settle for the number 25 in his debut season at United, which has previously been occupied by Odion Ighalo and Antonio Valencia.
Sancho registered 38 goals and 51 assists in just 104 appearances for Dortmund in the Bundesliga and will hope to continue this fine form in the Premier League this season.
Meanwhile, United’s long-awaited announcement confirming the £43m signing of France defender Raphael Varane is still up in the air following his exit from Real Madrid.
Speaking about the delayed announcement last week, United boss Solskjaer said: “The med with Raphael has to be done. He is isolating at the moment and had to wait for visas.
“Unfortunately that took a few more days than expected but you have got to follow the protocols and rules, it’s taken a few more days than hoped for.”

Man Utd’s biggest transfers ever, both in and out, including Ronaldo
Varane reportedly completed his medical this week following his isolation and is due to be announced as a new United player imminently, but it may prove too late for him to be involved against Leeds on Saturday.
The centre-back may instead have to wait until next Sunday to make his debut, when United travel to St. Mary’s to take on Southampton.
Solskjaer will hope his side can mount a serious title challenge this season and compete with the likes of Chelsea and Man City, who have also spent heavily on recruitment this summer.

Over 200 live games will be show on BT Sport every season, with at least five games to be shown shown live on each of the 38 match days, starting on August 21 as champions Inter Milan take on Genoa.
Speaking on the announcement BT Sport’s Sports Rights Director Rachael Knight said: “We want to provide our customers with the best sport from across the world and the addition of Serie A means viewers will get to follow some of the biggest stars, managers and clubs in world football.

Inter Milan won their first Serie A title in eleven years last season, ending Juventus’ run of nine titles in a row prior to that, with the Old Lady only scraping into the top four on the last day of the season.
And after Italy’s win at Euro 2020, a selection of Italy’s biggest stars will be on show on BT Sport, with the likes of Federico Chiesa (Juventus), Nico Barella (Inter), Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli) and Ciro Immobile (Lazio) set to be on UK and Ireland screens next season as well defensive stalwarts Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci (both Juventus).
Overseas talents such as superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC Milan), Paulo Dybala (Juventus) and Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli) will also take centre stage live on BT Sport.
Former Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho will be on show after taking over at Roma at the start of the season and he is sure to play his part in what should be a fascinating title race.

The news follows last week’s announcement that Sky Sports would exclusively broadcast all Bundesliga games until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Games from the German top flight have been shown by BT Sport in recent seasons, but now Sky Sports have won the honours to do so and will even show some games for FREE on YouTube.
The first game of the 2021-22 season will see Bayern Munich’s trip to Borussia Monchengladbach at 7.30pm on Friday August 13 – the same day as the Premier League curtain-raiser between Arsenal and Brentford.
Each weekend, the ‘premium’ Bundesliga match will be shown live on Sky Sports at 5.30pm meaning football fans in the UK and Ireland will have plenty of European football on offer to them over the course of the next twelve months.

Hope United boss Rio Ferdinand calls on Government to add social media training to school syllabus in online hate fight

RIO FERDINAND believes social media training should be part of the Government’s syllabus for schools. The former England defender, 42, is manager of Hope United, BT’s team of professional footballers coming together to tackle online hate.

And he has called on the country’s leaders to step up and play their part in helping eradicate abuse.
Ferdinand told SunSport: “People can hide behind an emoji now, they don’t have to show their face or identification.
“They can just say what they like with no consequences which is a big part of the problem.
“That’s where social media companies need to step up and the Government come together to create an environment where people are going to be held accountable for their actions.
“Long term, education is the key.
“Teaching people how to use social media is so key because some people get caught up in being a negative person online and think it’s funny but don’t realise the effect it has on people they are doing it to.
“Once you educate those people too we are on the right track.
“Definitely, it needs to be part of the syllabus at school. Listen, a kid could be derailed at school just through social media hate, 100 per cent that happens.

“Technology is an ever-evolving world out there. Educating just the children would be wrong. Parents need that as well.
“For adults outside of education, that’s why Hope United is great because of the reach BT have, doing media work, trying to get it out there to hit people between the eyes with it so they don’t miss it. It’s vital.”
A staggering one in ten people have received abuse online in the past year, leading to players from across the Home Nations to come together and make a united stand.
Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, Lucy Bronze, Andy Robertson and Gareth Bale are among the stars to join Hope United.
The aim is to recognise hate crime, inform people – especially youngsters – how to behave on social media and support victims by encouraging conversation.
Today, they are encouraging everyone to share the Pledge on social media, which says: “Hate has no place on my timeline, in my inbox, in my life. Hope can beat hate if we all stand together.”
Like many, manager Ferdinand has suffered abuse in different forms throughout his life – from bullying as a child to anonymous messages on social media.
He said: “I was lucky when I was a kid, I was quite OK handling situations like that through banter or batting it off or ignoring it. But not all kids are built like that. Everyone’s situation is different.
The moment you talk, there is a lightness that comes over your body, you feel lighter, more relieved and able to get on with your day, week, month, year so much easierRio Ferdinand
“When I became a teenager I was playing football in front of crowds a lot and you’d hear comments that build you to deal with those situations.
“I’m not saying it’s right but it’s part of football that you get people from opposing teams saying stuff.
“You need to be able to not allow it to derail you from your mission which for me was to make it as a footballer. It definitely gave me thick skin for when social media came about.”
The Manchester United legend has his own coping mechanisms: focusing on the positive comments, turning social media notifications off as well as opening up to family and friends.
He encouraged others to do the same.
Ferdinand continued: “The important part for children to understand is having a goal in life, whether that’s to be a milkman or footballer, don’t allow negative people to control your life and control your destiny.
“It’s down to you but within that you’ve got to talk. You have to talk if you have issues.
“No one gets to where they want to in life without some bumps in the road. The more you talk, the better you will navigate to your destination.
The squad includes Home Nations stars Jordan Henderson, Gareth Bale and Marcus Rashford

“People post looking for validation from people online. Try not to focus on the negatives.
“Whether you have ten followers or millions, our eyes always get drawn to the negative comments. The more you can train to eliminate and skate past those negative comments, the better.
“Reach out to friends and family or a senior position in your environment such as school or work place. People do genuinely want to help.
“For me, it’s my wife. Sometimes I even talk to my kids about it which then helps them. Friends, people at the workplace. It comes up in conversation and a lot of it is not feeling alone.
“When you mention it, there’s always someone who says, ‘I’ve had that as well’. Then you find out how they dealt with it and learn from other people’s experiences which is important.
“People get bogged down by negativity and hate on the internet but the moment you talk, there is a lightness that comes over your body, you feel lighter, more relieved and able to get on with your day, week, month, year so much easier.”
The reality of abuse hit home for Ferdinand once again covering Wolves vs United for BT Sport in May when he was targeted by a fan performing a monkey gesture.
The man was arrested and bailed by West Midlands Police.
It was, naturally, a tough day for the pundit.
    [embedded content]
He concluded: “Wolves was very difficult. We thought, ‘Wow everyone back in the stadium, we can have some fun,’ and then someone ruins it with their ignorant nature and their lack of education.
“The club, police and BT all acted very well in the situation.
“Things like that need to be highlighted and consequences need to be there.
“That is part of the problem: people make stupid comments and don’t think about the people they are saying it to and there are no consequences.
“There is no education for these people so they will continue doing it – without the education, these people don’t change.”

BT’s Hope United Pledge will allow you to show your support for the fight against online hate this summer. Visit bt.com/hopeunited to find out more and share the Hope United Pledge on social media. Together we can beat online hate.

The last couple weeks, it’s been unreal to see fans back. HoweverTo the Wolves fan who has just been thrown out for doing a monkey chant at me. You need to be dismissed from football & educated. Come meet me & I will help you understand what it feels like to be racially abused!— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) May 23, 2021

“I’d love to meet up with the fella and just educate him a little bit.”Punishing people without education isn’t the way forward.”@rioferdy5 offers his thoughts and feelings on a shameful racist incident at Molineux. The person in question is in police custody.#DrawTheLine pic.twitter.com/acVqs8ngHB— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) May 23, 2021
