‘He’s got to look at the ball!’ – Robbie Savage singles out Man Utd star for huge error in build-up to Barcelona goal

ROBBIE SAVAGE singled out Fred for criticism after Barcelona’s opening goal against Manchester United. The former Premier League player was on BT Sport commentary duty as United travelled to Spain.

And they got off to a poor start in the Europa League tie as ex-Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso headed the hosts ahead.
As the corner came in, Alonso ghosted in round the back, heading into the ground and beating David de Gea.
And, after watching the replay, Savage noticed it was Fred who had failed to track the Spaniard as he was left free to head the opener home.
Savage said: “Fred’s got to look at the ball. Poor defending.”

Despite the criticism, Savage did add: “You can question his body shape for the goal. But his energy, enthusiasm and assist for the goal – he’s been brilliant.”
The Brazilian’s blushes were saved after Marcus Rashford levelled on 52 minutes.
Rashford broke free down the road and somehow squeezed in his effort past Marc-Andre ter Stegen from inside the box.
It marked the in-form England international’s 22nd goal in all competitions this season.

And Rashford had a hand in putting United 2-1 up just minutes later.
He picked up the ball from a short corner, beat his play and played a menacing ball across the face off goal.
It ricocheted all the way through and Barca defender Jules Kounde inadvertently put the ball into his own net.
This time it was Raphinha who had to pull the game back with his curled cross going all the way in, with everyone waiting for Robert Lewandowski to get a touch.
And the thriller finished 2-2 to set up a mouth-watering return leg in Manchester next Thursday.

Emotional Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand reveals how his wife’s tragic death has affected him live on BT Sport

EMOTIONAL Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand revealed how his wife’s tragic death affected him live on BT Sport.Ferdinand, 44, lost partner Rebecca Ellison to breast cancer in 2015, with the 34-year-old leaving behind three children.

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand expressed his delight at seeing Sebastien Haller line up for Borussia Dortmund against Chelsea after the striker recovered from his own cancer fight.
Haller was diagnosed with testicular cancer after a £29million move from Ajax last summer.
The Frenchman underwent two gruelling surgeries and four rounds of chemotherapy before finally making his Dortmund debut last month.
Ex-West Ham striker Haller was named in Dortmund’s starting XI for the first leg of their Champions League last 16 win against Chelsea.

And Ferdinand was overcome with emotion as he hailed Haller for urging people to get themselves checked regularly.
That’s was when he revealed that Rebecca’s passing hit him so hard that he “hid away” from offering similar encouragement to others.
Ferdinand, who shares one child with second wife Kate Wright, said: “That was a moving segment, his family have been a huge support to him.
“Seeing how he looked so ill and thinking will he come back, and he’s now actually playing in a Champions League game.

“It’s phenomenal. And the small margins between doing that and going the other way are so apparent and well-documented.
“The narrative that he’s pushing is fabulous, even to get us guys speaking before we got on about ‘have you checked?’
“I want to start going on and doing that. I’ve hid away from doing anything like that because of my own personal story.
“A lot of people need to sit and listen because the power of it is huge and immense.
“We take this game very seriously and it puts it into perspective when you look at what he’s had to go through, the mental resilience he’s had to go through to get to this point.
“But we sometimes get caught up on decisions, results and what it means to play football, but really it’s about life.”

Why Chelsea were denied penalty against West Ham as Peter Walton slams VAR after Soucek’s ‘deliberate act’

FORMER Premier League referee Peter Walton has revealed why VAR elected NOT to award Chelsea a penalty against West Ham. Tomas Soucek was the centre of attention in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw between the two teams.

“He more or less saved it! It was a great save!””I would have been going crazy! It’s unbelievable!”@rioferdy5, Gianfranco Zola and Joe Cole were all baffled as to how Chelsea weren’t awarded a late penalty vs. West Ham for a Tomas Soucek handball… 🔎 pic.twitter.com/GszZLP4W99— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) February 11, 2023

Moments after he thought he had scored – only for it to be ruled out for offside – Soucek appeared to handle the ball as he attempted to block Conor Gallagher’s goal-bound shot.
As the midfielder went down to try and block the shot with his knee, the ball instead flashed past his knee and struck his hand, ensuring the ball spun harmlessly away.
A VAR check then followed with Chelsea players – and their social media admin – adamant Soucek had illegally handled the ball in the area.
However, VAR ruled in favour of West Ham, with Peter Walton revealing why the decision might have been made the way it did.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Speaking on BT Sport, he said: “The law is quite clear. The law actually says about unnaturally bigger, making the area for the ball to strike.
“And the VAR clearly thinks the arm was in a natural position going down there as you said to break his fall.”
Walton then blasted the decision, saying: “When you look at it closely and you analyse it – almost in slow motion – you can probably see that the ball Is past his knee and then the arm is there.
“For me, I think it’s a deliberate act and I’m disappointed actually that VAR didn’t give the opportunity for the referee to go and have a second look at it.”

Asked about the new regime at referee body PGMOL under Howard Webb, Walton explained how transparency in decision-making was being championed going forward.
He referred to Bruno Fernandes’ controversial goal when Marcus Rashford was deemed to have not interfered with play in the Manchester Derby and how it would now have been deemed offside.
He added: “Likewise, if you fast forward to today, in the law you can almost defend the player by saying the arm was in a natural position.
“But really football, I think as a community, would want that given as a penalty kick and as a former Premier League referee, I think that was the wrong decision today and it should have been a penalty kick.”
Joao Felix’s early opener was cancelled out by ex-Chelsea star Emerson in the first half, with the result leaving Chelsea nine points off of the top four and West Ham two points above the relegation zone. More

JAKE PAUL vs Tommy Fury is finally set to take place – and you don’t have to wait too long to see it. The pair have been locked in negotiations for months over trying to reschedule a fight which has fallen through twice already.

🥊 How to watch Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury: Date, UK start time, live stream, TV channel
Tommy Fury will fight Jake Paul in a huge clash in Saudi Arabia
First, Fury pulled out of their original date in December 2021 with injury and illness.
And then the Manchester fighter had visa issues while trying to get over the US to promote their second fight, with that bout being called off too.
Paul instead fought Anderson Silva, beating him on points to rack up his sixth win as a professional boxer.
Fury, 8-0, was last in action in an exhibition on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs Deji against Rolly Lambert.
But now Fury and Paul are ready to do battle, and it’s all going down in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia!
    When is Paul vs Fury?

Paul’s big clash with Fury will take place on Sunday, February 26.
The bout will be held in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, where Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr took place.
Expect ring-walks for the main event to begin at around 10pm UK time.

Paul said: “The moment of truth has finally arrived.

When is Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk? Date, TV channel, everything we know so far about massive undisputed title fight

TYSON FURY and Oleksandr Usyk finally look set to fight for the undisputed heavyweight titles – and a date has now been pencilled in. Usyk defeated Anthony Joshua for the second time last year to retain his WBA, WBO and IBF titles, picking up the Ring Magazine belt in the process.

Fury is the WBC champ and is coming off four huge consecutive stoppage wins himself.
The Gypsy King beat Deontay Wilder via TKO in 2020 to claim the title, before knocking him out in their trilogy clash last year.
Fury then overcame Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium, stopping him in the sixth round, and he beat Derek Chisora in December.
With no mandatory challengers due, and all the belts in the hands of just two fighters, the undisputed clash looks finally set to happen.

When is Fury vs Usyk going to take place?
A date has yet to be confirmed for Fury’s potential undisputed clash with Usyk.
But according to Frank Warren, all parties are working towards an April 29 clash.
And the venue could be Saudi Arabia once again, with Riyadh being targeted, but Wembley Stadium is also still in play.
“The fight will take place 100 per cent the last Saturday in April,” Warren said.
“Where it takes place I genuinely think will be determined within the next six or seven days maximum.
“If we can’t do what we’re being asked to do with Tyson and Usyk [in Saudi Arabia], then the fight will take place in the UK.”
What TV channel will it be on?
Fury vs Usyk has yet to be confirmed, but a TV channel will be announced once the fight is signed.
It’s extremely likely we’ll see the fight on BT Sport Box Office, where Fury’s last seven fights have been shown.
Queensberry Promotions and Top Rank are set to promote the mega-event.

In each video, the Ukrainian can be seen pointing towards his stomach and shouting: “Hey, belly, I’m coming for you.”
Usyk has also said: “Fury, you talk about greatness in boxing.
“But, at the same time, you say, ‘Give me a lot of money’.
