Deontay Wilder vs Robert Helenius LIVE RESULTS: Bronze Bomber KNOCKS OUT Helenius in FIRST ROUND – latest updates

DEONTAY WILDER made an emphatic comeback to the boxing ring with a huge first-round knockout of Robert Helenius in New York. Wilder started slowly but as soon as Helenius committed to an attack, a huge right hand came back his way and ended things with 10 seconds of the round left.
Wilder is now on course to fight Andy Ruiz Jr next year.

    Start time: 4am UK
    Live stream/TV: FITE TV

    Wilder lets out emotional speech
Deontay Wilder gets emotional and breaks down in tears when discussing boxer Prichard Colon, who suffered brain damage after a defeat in 2015.
Wilder said: “We’ve seen what happens, look at Colon. How he got hit, Richard Collon, correct.
“This man didn’t have no kids… they don’t understand. Y’all don’t f****** understand what we go through, man.
“And I don’t even know him like that, but I will always be an advocate for us.
“Because this man will never know what it’s like to be somebody’s father.
“And that’s one of the most precious things in the world, to be somebody’s father. But he will never be nobody’s father, man.
“Because he got in the ring to support his family but now, his family got to take care of him for the rest of his life.
“He was probably the bread winner in his family and now they’re looking and seeking for help and s*** like that.
“I could say so much about it, man. That’s why you can’t play this, this is serious.
“We don’t know if Robert is going to be the same after this. I just did a job.
“I’m great at what I do but I don’t mean to take people away from the lifestyle they’re living. I’m just trying to support my family as well.”

    Wilder’s concern
The heavyweight admits he felt concerned for Helenius, a former sparring partner of his.
He said: “I always have concerns for all fighters. I’m a big advocate for fighters because, like I always say, this is not a sport.
“A sport is something you play. You don’t play this. We risk our lives for your guys’ entertainment and I speak that forever.
“But when you have a relationship with a man, when you love a man, when you build a friendship with another man although he’s a thousand miles away from where I am.
“When you see stuff like that man, you want to come to his aid. I wanted to come to his aid but they wouldn’t let me.
“But my heart goes out to him and I hope he’s OK and goes back to his family because this is a tough business that we’re in.”

    Oscar worthy
Boxing legend Oscar de la Hoya left full of praise after Wilder’s stunning KO over Helenius.
He tweeted: “Wow that was the most powerful fastest short right hand ever. Congratulations @BronzeBomber.”

    Syk note
Wilder believes it will be hard to get Oleksandr Usyk in the ring with him, despite the Ukrainian calling out the Bronze Bomber.
He said: “I think it’s going to be very difficult. I’ll be very surprised if he sticks to his word.”

But the unified champion was a no-show, as Wilder questioned who on earth would want to fight him after leaving Helenius out cold.

And Wilder fears if the former cruiserweight king had taken a ringside seat, it just might have scared him off a future fight.

And the unbeaten American put on another boxing clinic over 12 rounds to retain his WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO undisputed lightweight titles.
But he refused to celebrate with his Ring Magazine belt, having failed to make their top ten pound-for-pound list.
Haney, 23, said: “I should definitely be on the pound-for-pound rankings.
“In the first fight they said all I had was my jab, today I came in and showed them my right hand.

“I showed how versatile I am. I came to Australia not once but twice, beat the man in his hometown twice.”
Haney bossed the action utilising simple boxing fundamentals, scoring with razor sharp jabs and one-two combinations.
Kambosos, 29, was light on his feet in the early stages, switching stances and trying to make life difficult for the flashy champion.
But Haney, who turned professional at just 17, was wise to anything coming his way and landed some beautiful counters, specifically with the left hook.

Kambosos, who was bloodied towards the final stages, found home to some stinging body shots during the second half of the bout.
But at times marksman Haney made it look like target practice with his jab, lead right hand and near-perfect one-two down the middle.
As the bell sounded for the final time – as was the case in the summer – there was no doubt in the result.
Haney lofted all four 135lb belts high in the air and embraced Kambosos following 24 rounds shared between the pair.
The scorecards read 119-109, and 118-110 twice, all in Haney’s favour as the American sent out a message to the division and world.
He said: “We’re taking on all comers, no matter who it is we want to fight the best fighters in the world.

Savannah Marshall fails in bid to become undisputed world champion as classy Claressa Shields puts on boxing masterclass

WONDER WOMAN Claressa Shields dethroned our girl Savannah Marshall to become undisputed middleweight queen and settle their decade-long row.The 27-year-old – a two-time Olympic champion and three-weight pro ruler – dominated the Hartlepool hero, 31, on points atop the historic all-female O2 card.

Shields beat Marshall on a unanimous decisionCredit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
And the Michigan legend did it all this time while caring for her two nieces and nephew while her sister recovers from personal issues.
Ten years after Marshall beat Shields in the amateurs in 2012, the judges rightly called it: 96-94, 97-93 and 97-93.
A moronic section of the impressively packed crowd booed the American anthem and proud patriot Shields looked determined to punish them for it.
Dressed in the stars and stripes and with Mr T emblazoned on her socks she was afraid of no foe or fool.

Shields was hurt in the second but she showed incredible grit to dig deep and whack back with a left hook that tanned the usually pale complexion on Marshall’s right cheek. It was brilliant action.
Up to 11, Silent Assassin Marshall was so crippled with shyness she would barely talk, 20 years later, in the third, she was hunting down a monster in front of 20,000 people and peppering her with insults as well as punches.
During one exchange in front of the press desks she roared “come on!” as she clumped at her.
The fourth was a blur of brawling and technical boxing close-up-and-personal. Marshall left her height and range advantages in her corner and went tow-to-tow with her shorter foe. It was a shootout.

Marshall’s honeyshot right hand was fearsome but it kept leaving her open to Shields’ left hook and the fifth was one of the worst sessions for it.
Marshall walked on to a handful of bruising shots at the end of the sixth, it was her worst round of the fight so far but he legs were honest.
Marshall – who was rejected for a part-time job in lockdown by a handful of firms – had 20,000 fans screaming her name in the seventh when it looked like her engine was running on fumes alone and Shields was showboating with her Philly shell defence throughout round eight.
The American master was just too good but everyone would love to see the rematch with the score now tied at 1-1.
After her stunning success, Shields said: “I did what I do in training and I got the job done.
“I want to thank Savannah Marshall – it was a special night for women’s boxing and I think it was fight of the year.”

Marshall added: “She was not as fast as I thought she was but she is a brilliant champion. I would be up for a third one.”
In the chief support of the night at London’s o2, Alycia Baumgardner secured a contentious split decision victory against Mikaela Mayer to unify WBC, WBO and IBF super-featherweight titles.

Benn, who denies wrongdoing, could face a four-year ban if found guilty of committing a doping offence.
Eubank, 56, claims that he knows who was responsible for the positive test for banned clomifene, a drug normally used to treat infertility in women.
He told a crowd in the West Midlands: “I think I know, I have a good idea.
