Conor Benn gives up boxing licence as BBBofC council finds him guilty of misconduct after failed pre-Eubank drug test

CONOR BENN has ripped up his British boxing licence over his escalating doping row that wrecked his Chris Eubank Jr fight. The board of control called the 26-year-old welterweight son of ring legend Nigel to a hearing on Friday to discuss a misconduct charge.
Benn has relinquished his licence with the BBofCCredit: Getty
But the undefeated ace is so furious with how they have handled his case that he is refusing to comply and has been hit with a handful of charges.
SunSport understands a fine of around £50,000 was issued but – if Benn has renounced his arrangement with the BBBofC – he might escape paying it.
An official statement read: “By a notice dated 17th October 2022, Mr. Conor Benn was called by the Board of the BBBofC to attend a hearing dealing with allegations of misconduct pursuant to Rule 25.1.1.
“The hearing took place on 21st October 2022.
    READ MORE IN BOXING
“On the morning of the hearing, Mr. Benn voluntarily relinquished his licence with the BBBofC.
“In accordance with its Rules and Regulations, the Board determined the allegations following the hearing at which Mr. Benn was legally represented.
“The allegations of misconduct against Mr. Benn were upheld.”
Benn is furious that the governing body was aware of a failed test as early as August but showed no urgency in cancelling the catchweight bout.

Instead they waited until two days out of the sold-out O2 and pay-per-view clash to withdraw their sanctioning of the contest and force its cancellation by Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn.
The Essex fight boss expects Benn’s legal team to prove his innocence soon, with an explanation based on his sample getting contaminated.
And he has accused the board, who have handed their doping policing and sentencing to Ukad whose tests Benn passed, of leaking information about the case to the press.
He said: “Conor Benn never had a chance to have a hearing before the fight. They just sat on it and leaked it to the press and went from there.
“Everything in the results of this test – which you’ll hear from Conor – leads to contamination.
“The levels in this amount, surrounded by the other testing that took place, would lead to suggestion of contamination of some kind in this test.”
Benn will have to fight abroad but that will only happen when the case is closed.
He could then fight in the UK as an overseas fighter, although it is frowned upon.
WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury boxed Dillian Whyte earlier this year on a Nevada licence.
Benn’s fight camps will also take place abroad.
The Brit has accused the BBBofC of making it difficult for him to focus on clearing his name.
He said in a defiant statement: “Conor’s focus at this time is solely on clearing his name.
“The Board, however, has made it extremely difficult for Conor to focus on doing that by its conduct of an unfair and biased procedure.
“In such circumstances, Conor decided not to renew his licence (which had lapsed).
“Conor told the Board that if it did not accept that his licence had lapsed, then he renounces it.
“He strongly refutes the allegation of misconduct (which for the avoidance of doubt is *not* in relation to the VADA issue) and firmly believes that an independent tribunal will reach a wholly different conclusion.

“At the appropriate time Conor will speak out on this and on the doping allegation, to the extent that he can while legal proceedings are ongoing.
“In the meantime he reiterates, in no uncertain terms, that he is a clean athlete.” More

Eddie Hearn reveals Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury fight fell apart due to ‘quick turnaround’ from Oleksandr Usyk loss

EDDIE HEARN has revealed the reason why negotiations for Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s fight collapsed.Boxing fans were devastated to learn that the hotly anticipated “Battle of Britain” bout would not be going ahead as initially hoped on December 3rd.

Fury has instead drafted in a fight against Derek ChisoraCredit: PA
And speaking on talkSPORT, promoter Hearn revealed why the talks between the two parties collapsed.
He said: “It’s probably a bit of everybody’s fault. It’s a very complex situation for both teams, with TV networks.
“Listen, I don’t mind saying, AJ’s just coming off a defeat, he wanted December 17, but we agreed to December 3, he would have had to get back into the gym immediately, which he was going to do.
“I don’t sit here today, as someone who represents Anthony Joshua, devastated that fight didn’t happen.

“He wanted to take it, so I was all in, but it was a very quick turnaround for him in a fight of that magnitude.”
With that put on ice, Fury has instead drafted in Derek Chisora to complete a trilogy against him.
And should Fury win that fight he is then expected to take on Joshua nemesis Oleksandr Usyk in a never-seen-before unified heavyweight title fight that will see all four belts on the line for the first time in the four-belt era.
Meanwhile, Joshua is expected to fight against Dillian Whyte early next year.

Hearn added: “I think he’s going to fight January or February, early next year.
“The issue with AJ is, in my opinion, he’s coming off the back of two Usyk defeats, coming off the back of the disappointment and the emotional implosion after the fight…
“I think he should come back with two standard top 15 opponents, good solid fights, but he doesn’t really want it…
“I think the fight that you’ll see early next year is Dillian Whyte against Anthony Joshua.”

However, AJ was called out by the coach of recently crowned Ring Magazine rank No1 Deontay Wilder as both bid to get themselves back into the title picture.

Schaller was on board with his partner Christine Schikorsky, two children and two others, including the pilot, when the Piaggio P.180 Avanti plummeted into the ocean.
So far, two of the six bodies – an adult and a child – have been found since the horror smash.
The twin-engine turboprop jet was heading from Mexico to Costa Rica on Friday when it disappeared from the air control radar.
Rescue crews were able to locate the plane early on Saturday about 28 kilometers from Costa Rica’s Limon Airport.

Debris from the aircraft and backpacks have been recovered by the coastguard.
The eight-seater jet was built in 2009 and Schaller bought it in 2019.
Flight safety adviser Arthur Bayuk believes the pilot may have become “overwhelmed” as commercial flights have two people at the controls.
He told BILD: “The aircraft has an excellent safety record.

“The initial descent was controlled. Later, the individual pilot was probably overwhelmed.”
Schaller was pals with former boxing star Vitali Klitschko, who now serves as the Major of Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital.
The pair were friends for two decades and had visited Vitali, 51, and his brother Wladimir in war-torn Ukraine just this month.
Vitali and Wladimir became advertising stars for McFit in 2008.
Schaller was the CEO of RSG Group, which includes McFit, John Reed and Gold’s Gym fitness studios.
It is understood his empire employed 41,000 people in 48 countries.
Klitschko said Schaller had planned to build a gym to support Ukraine as Putin’s invasion rages on.

Jake Paul sparred world champs before Anderson Silva fight including man who dropped Tyson Fury and Andre Ward’s rival

JAKE PAUL called on the help of Tyson Fury and Andre Ward’s old rivals to help him prepare to fight Anderson Silva. The YouTuber-turned boxer returns over the weekend in Arizona, his first bout in ten months.
Ex-world champion Chad Dawson with sparring partner Jake Paul

But during that hiatus from the ring, Paul has been secretly mixing it with champions of the past.
That includes Steve Cunningham, 46, the former IBF cruiserweight title holder who in 2013 dropped but lost to Tyson Fury.
And most recently Chad Dawson, 40, the three time light-heavyweight champ who lost to American great Ward in 2012.
Paul, 25, said: “Chad Dawson raises my level of competition significantly.

“He pushes me to the next level and he makes me have to fight at my best. That’s what’s needed.
“If I can be in there with Chad Dawson, then I can beat Anderson Silva.
“I’m super excited for October 29 to go out there and show my speed.”
Paul last fought in December, knocking out Tyron Woodley, 40, four months after beating the ex-UFC champion on points.

That added to KOs over online rival AnEsonGib, ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, 38, and retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, also 38.
Woodley only filled on under two weeks’ notice after Tommy Fury, 23, pulled out of his grudge match against Paul with a rib injury.
The celeb mega-fight was rescheduled for August in New York – but that was soon KOd when Fury suffered US visa issues.
Heavyweight Hasim Rahman Jr, 31, signed as a substitute, only for lightening to strike twice, this time due to a weight disagreement.
But Rahman is a frequent switch-hitter, meaning Paul accustomed himself to sparring southpaws, a blessing in disguise for his fight with Silva.

‘He can take it all’ – Jake Paul backed to become world champ by prodigy who was stunned by YouTuber’s boxing knowledge

JAKE PAUL has been backed to reach the pinnacle of boxing by his prodigy Ashton Sylve, who was left in shock by his celebrity manager. Sylve is 8-0 with a 100 per cent knockout ratio and a target of almost every promoter by the time he was just 18.
Women’s world champion Amanda Serrano, Ashton Sylve and Jake Paul
But Paul and his Most Valuable Promotions stable managed to snap up the exciting American prospect.
The pair trained together briefly after Sylve took a trip to the YouTuber-turned boxer’s Puerto Rico training base.
And it was there he was left pleasantly surprised by Paul’s boxing knowledge, which he thinks will be enough to take the 5-0 prizefighter all the way.
Sylvie told SunSport: “He’s honestly going pretty fast and he’s a very fast learner.

Sylve, who has mutual famous friends to Paul’s, admits as first he was unsure about the social media sensation’s legitimacy in the sport.
But after Paul knocked out a pair of former MMA champions in Ben Askren, 38, and Tyron Woodley, 40, the teen talent was convinced.

Sylve said: “I just thought it was pretty much entertainment, something fun coming to the boxing fight, like in basketball they do celebrity games.
“I thought it was something like that but when it started to get serious and him actually having a professional record, I thought it was weird at first.
“But then I started to think everybody else’s career is kind of like that, a lot of fighters fight people in their first five fights who shouldn’t even be in the ring.
“So I didn’t think it was too bad and it started bringing a lot of eyes to boxing, so it was a plus for the whole boxing scene.”

Paul returns over the weekend in Arizona against Anderson Silva, 47, the biggest test of his career.
And it has also afforded Sylve a prime time spot as chief support in a bout against Braulio Rodriguez, 34.
Sylve was due to have his coming out party in August at New York’s Iconic Madison Square Garden.
But Paul had to axe his own pay-per-view bill after Tommy Fury, 23, and Hasim Rahman Jr, 31, pulled out due to a US visa issue and weight row respectively.
So Sylve has had to share the agonising wait alongside Paul and remain calm under the chaos.
He said: “I’m grateful for the opportunity, this is kind of like a dream come true, something I always envisioned.
