Tyson Fury suffers double blow in plans for next fight and could be forced to face underwhelming opponent

TYSON FURY has been hit with a double blow in his search for a summer return fight. The Gypsy King is looking to defend his WBC title in July after talks for a unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk collapsed earlier in the year.

Now, Usyk, 36, has been ordered into a WBA mandatory defence against Daniel Dubois, 25, with talks ongoing.
It left Andy Ruiz Jr and Zhilei Zhang as frontrunners to face Fury.
But Joe Joyce has exercised his rematch clause with Zhang and Frank Warren told Boxing News that Ruiz has priced himself out.
It leaves the Hall of Fame promoter heading back to the drawing board.

He said: “I want to get him [Fury] out whatever happens and get back in the swing of things. It’s just a bloody shame we wasted so much time [on the Usyk fight].
“The problem we’ve got is the ones we wanted are all fighting.
“The Zhang fight, Joe Joyce, I wouldn’t have gone with Joe next, he’ll have to get a win first and obviously Daniel.
“We’ll have a look around and see what’s available.”

Joyce, 37, was beaten by Zhang, 40, in April after his eye was swollen so badly the referee waved off the contest.
The Chinese star then emerged as a contender to fight Fury, 34, until Joyce activated his right to a rematch.
And with Ruiz, 33, also now seemingly out of the equation, it leaves Warren short of options but adamant Fury WILL still fight.
He said: “We’re getting very close [to summer], that’s part of the problem, but we’ll get him out.”
Meanwhile, talks are taking place behind the scenes with boxing bosses in Saudi Arabia.
They hope to negotiate a deal for Anthony Joshua, 33, to fight Deontay Wilder, 37, in the Middle East in December.
And they also have plans for Fury and Usyk to finally meet, as US promoter Bob Arum confirmed talks with the Saudis.
Arum told Ringside Reporter Live: “I have talked to a representative of Skill Challenge that puts on these boxing events in Saudi Arabia.

“That is correct [that talks are ongoing], we know these people, we work with them in connection with the Jake Paul and Tommy Fury fight as far as US television was concerned.
“So we know who the players are and we’ve had some very interesting talks with them.”

And the raw novice was ridiculed for his performance, with his inexperience on show in the round two loss.
But Swarmz – real name Brandon Scott – vowed to come back stronger and refused to give up.
He returned once more in January and beat YouTuber Ryan Taylor after the first punch he threw caused a brutal eye injury.
It earned Swarmz a crack at redemption and a co-headliner fight against KSI’s brother Deji.

He weighed in at 199lb (14st 2lb) before losing to KSI but now faces Deji at 170lb (12st 2lb).
It means Swarmz, 26, will have lost an astonishing TWO STONE by the time he laces up the gloves for the third time.
And the Londoner wants to go full circle by eyeing a rematch with KSI, 29, if he can get past brother Deji, 26.

He told media: “I’m going to beat Deji and then I’m going to take the mic and call out KSI straight away.

Swarmz commented on his drastic transformation and questioned Deji’s work ethic.
He said: “Deji, I don’t focus on what he does. This is all about me, not Deji. I don’t care, I’ve trained, I’m in shape.
“He doesn’t look like he’s in shape but anyways, May 13th we’ll go.”

Cason sparred with KSI, who is fighting Joe Fournier this weekend, in 2019 before the Brit’s points win over Logan Paul.
And he then traded punches with the Problem Child prior to the American’s knockout victory in his rematch with Tyron Woodley in December 2021.
Speaking ahead of KSI’s TWO victories against Swarmz and Luis Pineda back in August, Cason lauded his punching power.
Appearing on a Twitter space with Happy Punch Promotions via the Mirror, Cason – who has won all ten of his fights inside the ring – said: “That boy KSI hits hard.

“Regardless of how easy I took it on him and how it was training, I got to give to KSI.
“How about this, KSI hits harder than Jake.
“He got that African strength, I got to give it to him.”
Cason, whose nephew Hasim Rahman Jr saw his fight with Jake fall through, then stated how he believes Paul would knock KSI out should they ever come to blows.

He bases his opinion on Jake being more experienced inside the ring.
The cruiserweight remarked: “I’m a keep it honest, I got Jake. KSI is strong as hell, he has a hell of a right hand.
“So does Jake, but I think Jake has better boxing because he’s been in it longer and has taken it more seriously.
“I’d go with Jake Paul to beat him by knockout, unless KSI shows some better skills I think that Jake has just surpassed him right now.
“I’ve seen Jake take a punch where I’m like ‘oh that would have knocked KSI out’ because I have hurt KSI with a punch. I don’t that KSI has a chin like that.
“Jake’s got heart, KSI has heart too and I’m not taking anything anyway from him. Both of them have come into the sport and been on a stage bigger than a lot of us [professionals].” More

In the immediate aftermath and days following, the YouTuber-turned boxer hinted he would exercise his rematch clause.
But after a period of uncertainty, Paul announced that he would instead return against ex-UFC star Nate Diaz, 38.
He has since insisted a rematch with Fury WILL happen down the line – but urged his rival to first check his ego.
Paul said: “Tommy had a big head after the win.

“So he wants all this money and all of that, which is fine but he needs to be realistic, because he’s not the pay-per-view draw, right?
“If Tommy went and fought this weekend nobody would really be watching.
“And Nate Diaz was there, ready, willing and able and is a way, way, way, way bigger pay-per-view draw than Tommy Fury.

Paul revealed in the build up to fighting Fury that Diaz was his targeted next opponent.
So when the bout presented itself, even following his loss, the American stuck to his initial script.
Ahead of the DAZN PPV fight on August 5, Paul said: “I think Nate Diaz was always the plan.
“I’ve always said – even in the Tommy Fury build up – that I wanted Nate Diaz after Tommy.
“And that really was regardless of the outcome, I’ve always wanted to fight Nate Diaz, so he was always next on my list.
“There’s always a bunch of options and one day you’re like, ‘I want to do this, I want to do that.’
“But I went back to the Nate Diaz idea as like the original plan and he was ready and wiling to make the fight happen and it just made more sense than the Tommy Fury rematch right away.”
