      CAROLINE DUBOIS is eyeing a world title shot by next year after punching her way into boxing stardom. But it has been a long road for the 22-year-old, who had to hide her true identity when first picking up the gloves.

      Dubois was inspired to box at the age of nine by her older brother Daniel but she faced a fight to fit in from the off.
      So much so that she pretended to boy and called herself Colin.
      Dubois told SunSport: “When I turned up and my dad finally agreed to let me go, he was like, ‘You’re going to have to say you’re a boy, they’re not going to let you in. They’re not going to accept you.’
      “At first, I wasn’t sure if he was being serious but I went there and there were only boys, there was a different intensity.

      “I’ve done so many different sports, running, swimming, gymnastics but when you come into the clubs for training there’s a nice, light attitude, it’s very relaxed and chilled out.
      “But when I walked into the boxing gym there was a different intensity, I knew straight away that maybe there was something here.
      “I had to say my name was Colin. When I did finally tell them I was a girl, at first they didn’t want to let me back in the club, they didn’t want to except me.
      “But now, there’s loads of females, loads of national champions. It’s really changed a lot.”

      Dubois went on to win European and world championship honours in the amateurs before representing Team GB at the Tokyo Olympics.
      But during the early stages of her career in the paid ranks, activity was her greatest opponent.
      Dubois said: “It was very hard. As an amateur, I wasn’t getting any fights.
      “I’d be getting straight finals in tournaments where usually others would be fighting five or six times, I was fighting just one time.
      “It was definitely hard. Back in the day, if you had a daughter putting them into boxing was the last on the list.
      “But now it’s opened up, parents want to put their kids into boxing as it’s a form of self defence, it makes you feel more confident.
      “Loads of parents are seeing it as something their daughters can be doing too, so I’m very happy to be a part of this movement and this change.”

      Dubois – trained by Shane McGuigan – at 6-0 is racing up the ranks and closing in on a world title shot despite only turning pro last year.
      So finding willing sparring partners for the lightweight – who has won all but one of her fights by knockout – is becoming difficult.
      She said: “It’s been an absolute nightmare, Shane will tell you.
      “We were actually just talking about it the other day, who’s it hardest to get sparring for.
      “And one of my coaches, Josh Pritchard, said it’s me because you’ve got to get it right.
      “I’d spar any girl and any weight, it doesn’t matter if they’re heavier or whatever. But they’re just not turning up, they’re not coming.
      “They don’t want to spar because it’s hard sparring and it’s hard work. So it’s like OK, either you don’t spar or you get in with the men.

      “It’s very hard but it’s good, it’s what’s going to push me forward and make me better.
      “For this camp, I think I’ve just been sparring boys. It’s been hard but it’s been good.”
      Dubois returns on June 16 against 13-2 Argentine Carmen Lescano.
      And she hopes it will be another stepping stone on her way to climbing up the world title ladder.
      Dubois said: “Female fighters, we got world title shots a lot quicker.
      “Looking back, Katie Taylor fought for a world title in her seventh fight, I’m in my sixth fight so I’m not far behind.
      “I feel like I’m progressing really well in the gym and even though I may not have been able to show it in the ring so far, I’m putting the progression in, I’m working every day, I’m training very hard.
      “I’m putting in the ground work to make sure when the time comes, I’ll be ready for it. I’m aiming for five fights this year.

      “I’ve already had one, I’ve got four more, one on June 16th and then another two and hopefully by the fifth one I get a massive real acid test.
      “Then hopefully I’ll fight for a world title next year.”

      AUSTRALIAN boxing champ Tim Tszyu has been rushed into hospital after being attacked by an animal.Organisers and fans are now unsure whether Tim Tszyu’s fight against Carlos Ocampo will go ahead or not.

      Who is Tim Tszyu?
      Timofei Konstantinovich Tszyu is professionally known as Tim Tszyu.
      He was born on November 2, 1994, in Sydney, Australia, to Russian parents, and has a brother, Nikita, who is three years younger.
      Tim was educated at St George Christian School and Newington College in his teen years.
      He was enrolled at the Univeristy of Technology Sydney, studying for a business degree.

      Tim’s father is boxing legend Kostya, a former undisputed light-welterweight champion.
      His father was inducted into the international Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011.
      Tim began showing interest in sport, enrolling in gymnastics at six, later switching to football at ten.
      After his family relocated to Moscow for a few months when he was 13, he began to lose interest in football.

      On their return to Sydney, he quit footie for good and took up boxing when he was 15.
      Tim’s amateur boxing career was illustrious, he set an amateur boxing record of 33-1.
      He went professional in 2016 when he was 22 years old.
      What happened to Tim Tszyu?
      On Sunday, May 28 2023, Tim was attacked by a dog and was hospitalised as a result.
      The attack has caused doubts as to whether the boxing champ will be able to defend his world title on June 18, 2023.
      However, No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose believes the fight will still go ahead as planned.
      How is Tim Tszyu?
      It has been reported that Tim sustained a bite to his right arm that required emergency intervention.
      Tim’s manager, Glen Jennings, is confident that the fight will happen as scheduled.
      He said: “The wound was superficial. The post-surgical report is all good.”

      Boxing champion Tim Tszyu rushed to hospital after shock dog attack – putting world title fight in jeopardy

      BOXING champ Tim Tszyu was rushed to hospital after a shock dog attack that plunges his world title fight into jeopardy. The 28-year-old underwent emergency surgery after his right arm was reportedly savaged by an animal at a barbecue on Sunday.

      It has thrown his fight against Mexican Carlos Ocampo in just three weeks into serious doubt.
      Boxing fans fear the Gold Coast clash may not go ahead after the son of legendary boxer Kostya Tszyu was attacked.
      However, his camp has insisted he will be fit enough to take on his opponent despite his wounds from the dog bite.
      Tsyzu’s manager, Glen Jennings, said in a statement: “The wound was superficial. The post-surgical report is all good.
      “There is no doubt that Tim will be ready and 100 per cent healthy and focused to take on Carlos Ocampo on June 18.”
      No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose is also betting that the battle on June 18 will still go ahead.
      He said in a statement: “Like everyone, I was shocked and worried when I first heard the news.
      “It’s certainly not the ideal preparation anytime a fighter ends up in hospital a few weeks out from world title fight but the best news right now is that Tim is doing ok.

      “He has the best and most experienced team around him in world boxing.
      “They have reassured me he’ll be more than ready on June 18 to take on Ocampo. If they’re confident, I’m confident.”
      “There is no doubt that Tim will be ready and 100 per cent healthy and focused to take on Carlos Ocampo on June 18.”
      It was set to be Tszyu’s last fight before his Las Vegas showdown with undisputed super welterweight king Jermell Charlo, who has delayed it twice due to an injured hand.
      Taking on Ocampo marks Kostya’s first clash with a Mexican fighter and he is keen to recreate his famous father’s streak of success.
      He said in a previous interview: “The Tszyu legacy, we’re 5-0 against the Mexicans.
      “For me growing up and being a lover of this sport, watching the rivalries – Erik Morales, Barrera, the big Mexican fights like that – I’ve always wanted to test myself.
      “So I’m quite honoured to be able to fight against a Mexican. It’s going to be a tough task so hopefully my hands are ready.”

      Cops want to know if he was the man who used a knife to pierce the front and rear passenger-side tyres of a Range Rover Sport.
      The vehicle was attacked at 10.30am on May 16 in the car park of the upmarket Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club in Cotgrave.
      Witnesses are understood to have seen a man on a red £24,000 Ducati Diavel V4 park up and slash the tyres of the 4×4, causing £600 of damage.
      CCTV shows the individual then climb back on board the motorbike and roar off.

      At no point did the knifeman remove his cycle helmet.
      The Sun understands Froch, 45, accompanied by a lawyer, gave cops a short statement on Sunday evening denying he caused the criminal damage.
      The Nottingham-born dad of two, awarded an MBE, is a keen biker and was pictured on social media earlier this month doing promotional work for Ducati.
      He was said to have been handed a brand new red Ducati to test drive as part of his deal with the motor firm.
