I thank Tommy Fury for beating me, I couldn’t be happier and I feel stronger than ever, says Jake Paul

JAKE PAUL has THANKED Tommy Fury for handing him his first loss. The YouTuber-turned boxer suffered a split-decision defeat to Fury in Saudi Arabia in February.

But it sparked a complete overhaul in Paul’s camp as he revamped his team with new coaches and schedules.
So when reflecting on the night he thought would never come, Paul is grateful for Fury beating him.
He said: “It’s interesting that a loss can give you more conviction on what it is that you’re supposed to be doing and what you’re here to do.
“It can actually reset you on a proper path and that’s exactly what it did for me.

“Now I’m feeling better than ever, stronger than ever, in the best shape of my life, best team around me and I couldn’t be happier.
“That’s why I thank Tommy, I thank Tommy for winning. It put my life in the direction that it was supposed to be before and that is such a priceless thing.”
Paul, 26, snubbed an immediate rematch with Fury, 24, to instead return against Nate Diaz, this weekend in Texas live on DAZN PPV.
The defeat in the Middle East proved a blockbuster success, with over 800,000 box office buys.

But Paul predicts his comeback bout against ex-UFC star Diaz, 38, will top those numbers despite losing his unbeaten record.
He said: “After losing to Tommy I landed myself a bigger name and a bigger fight in terms of the ticket sales, the commercial pay-per-view.

“Everything is pointing towards this being the biggest event ever and I didn’t think that would be possible after losing to Tommy.
“So it’s interesting, I guess you can’t predict these things but I guess the number one thing is if people want to still see my fight then I’ll still have big fights.

“It’s really the fanbase that drives me, right. It’s like Deontay Wilder losing a couple of times to Tyson Fury but everyone still wants to see him fight.
“It all just depends and it’s really how you go out. If you’re going to get knocked out but if you lose a split-decision and it’s a war and it’s a good fight, it’s a lot easier to come back from that.”
Paul still plans to rematch Fury but insisted the opportunity to finally fight Diaz was too good to pass up on.
He explained: “Nate has a massive name, he’s a massive pay-per-view draw of the UFC times and to me that’s exciting.
“I haven’t yet fought a massive pay-per-view draw in the prime of their career while they’re still hot and active.

“So, to me that’s super exciting and there was that beef that was there and this online banter that was there back and forth that we’ve been trying to and wanting to fight for a long time.

I was one of Jake Paul’s sparring partners for Nate Diaz fight, two things really impressed me and won my respect

JAKE PAUL revamped his entire training team following his first loss. The YouTuber-turned boxer was beaten in February, suffering a split-decision defeat to Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia.

So for his return bout over the weekend – against Nate Diaz – Paul went back to the drawing board.
He parted ways with ex-cruiserweight contender BJ Flores and his co-trainer Danny Smith.
And instead Paul re-hired boxing legend Shane Mosley, his first ever trainer, to come into the camp as an advisor.
And Theotrice Chambers will now act as head coach in the American’s Puerto Rico base camp.

Paul, 26, has also worked with some top-flight sparring partners, including 8-0 middleweight Joshua Pagan, 23.
And Pagan, whose promoter Dmitriy Salita put him in touch with Paul’s team, gave an insight into the training camp.
He told SunSport: “This camp was really great. We trained at 10am every day, followed by strength and conditioning later in the day.
“It was pretty similar to what a day in my camp is like. Jake’s work ethic and willingness to learn is what impressed me about him.

“He comes into the gym focused and ready to work, and I respect that because that is how I am when it is time to work.”
Pagan and his father had initially expressed interest in working with Paul’s coach Chambers.
So Salita then made it known and before long the prospect flew out to sunny Puerto Rico for sparring.

Paul prepares to face his fourth ex-UFC star, having beaten Ben Askren, 39, Tyron Woodley, 41, and Anderson Silva, 48.
And Pagan expects a similar result, as he said: “My prediction for the Nate Diaz fight is a unanimous decision for Jake.
“I think Jake just has too many tools in his arsenal, and what he is learning in this camp is going to pay off and show come fight night.”
Paul snubbed a rematch with Fury, 24, to instead face Diaz, 38, but Pagan has urged him to go back in for the sequel right after.
He said: “Jake should definitely have the rematch with Tommy Fury after this fight.
“I feel like he will win this time around due to his changes in camp and preparation.”

I used to have breakfast with AJ.. I was amazed at what he ordered

ANTHONY JOSHUA left Carl Froch baffled by the size of his incredible breakfast. The pair of British boxers may not see eye to eye these days with the Cobra brutally honest in his public comments on AJ’s career.

Carl Froch struggled to fathom how much the Watford man consumedCredit: AP
But they used to be close friends and regularly hung out away from the ring together.
And on multiple occasions at a budget hotel, Froch could not believe what Joshua ordered to kick-start his day.
The former world champ turn poker star, 46, said: “I used to have breakfast with him every morning at the Premier Inn.
“He used to have a 12-egg omelette and I sat there in amazement.

“How can you eat 12 eggs?!”
AJ famously declared he was on the Rocky Marciano diet before his last fight and has been known to previously put away 5,000 calories a day in his training camp.
Joshua, 33, returns to the ring on August 12 to face old rival Dillian Whyte at the O2 Arena.
Froch believes AJ’s career would be in tatters if he loses to the Body Snatcher to make it three defeats in his last four fights.

The Watford man went down against Oleksandr Usyk twice before returning to winning ways to get past Jermaine Franklin.
However, Froch would rather see Whyte come out on top in the British blockbuster in London – especially after Joshua angrily messaged him to moan.
The super-middleweight legend added to the Daily Star: “He’s a nice kid, but in my opinion he has overachieved.
“He has been over-accelerated to world title stardom and to be fair to him, he has faced all his challenges but he lost to Andy Ruiz and lost to Usyk and he got the hump.
“It annoyed him, as it should do, but don’t get annoyed with everyone else and start blaming everyone.
“Own it, take it on the chin and come back, don’t speak and let your fists do the talking. Let your success be your noise and then bury everyone with your smile.
“If Whyte turns up in better shape than AJ, then I want Whyte to win. I want the better man to win.”

Fury, the younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson, is the bookies’ favourite to win the Manchester melee.
And Paul reckons TNT won’t let KSI – real name Olajide Williams – see the final round.
He told Mirror Fighting: “I think Tommy knocks him out in like less than five rounds.”
KSI thought he’d picked up his fourth win in a row in May when he stopped self-proclaimed billionaire Joe Fournier in the second round of their Wembley Arena war.

But replays showed he hit pal of former heavyweight champion David Haye with an illegal elbow and the KO was overturned to a No Contest.
And Paul wouldn’t be surprised if his long-time rival made use of his right elbow again.
The Problem Child added: “I mean [KSI] is doing these gimmick WWE fights up until now.
“Tommy is his first real test, but who knows, he might throw an elbow on Tommy, too.”

Despite having considerably less fighting experience than Fury, KSI is confident he’ll shock the world and blow TNT out of the water.
He said: “I came back to boxing to show the world the crazy levels I’m at.
“I’ve shown through obliterating all my past opponents that I am the best in this scene.

“KO after KO has now led me to the toughest fight in the influencer boxing scene. I’m fighting Tommy Fury.
“The man that defeated the once undefeated Jake Paul is now my opponent and I can’t wait to silence all the doubters that believe I have no chance.

The pair, 38 and 26 respectively, recently took part in a traditional pre-fight sitdown hosted by veteran MMA journalist Ariel Helwani.
But it ended prematurely when Diaz decided to up and LEAVE.
Diaz’s early exit came after Paul hailed him by saying: “He’s a warrior, he’s put on some of the greatest fights in the history of MMA.
“He has an amazing fanbase, obviously people love him for a reason and I know he’s coming to bring a war.

Fight fans were quick to comment, with one saying: “He doesn’t give a f**k.”

Another said: “This is the next level of I’m just showing up so I don’t get fined.”

MMA icon Diaz is no stranger to leaving media events early, dipping out of pre-fight press conferences for his 2016 rematch with Conor McGregor and upcoming clash with Paul.
Problem Child Paul has been irked by Diaz’s lack of promotion for the fight, saying: “For my own pleasure, I like to fight people where it’s rowdy because it’s more entertaining for the fans.
“It’s not as fun if there’s not as much s*** talk and funny moments leading up to the fight.

“That’s why I do this, for my own joy and passion for this game. So it is disappointing for myself.

Eddie Hearn reveals new date for Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder as grudge match is put ‘on hold’

But with AJ just weeks away from renewing his rivalry with Dillian Whyte in a domestic dust-up, promoter Eddie Hearn reckons the multi-million-pound melee will instead take place in January 2024.
The Matchroom Boxing chief told Boxing News: “I think it will be January [Joshua vs Wilder].”
Saudi boxing chiefs had hoped to have Tyson Fury’s protracted undisputed title fight with Oleksandr Usyk take place on the same night as Joshua vs Wilder.

But Hearn doubts that will come to fruition as the Gypsy King will meet former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in a controversial crossover clash in October.
    READ MORE IN BOXING
He continued: “I’m not sure whether Fury vs Usyk gets made [on the same card].
“I don’t expect the Ngannou fight will be so taxing that he can’t fight in January.
“But at the same time he would have done a training camp.
“And also you don’t know if he wants the fight, which lots of people suggest he doesn’t.”

Hearn laid the groundwork for Joshua’s big-money brawl with Wilder several months ago but admits further negotiations are on hold until after his rematch with Whyte.
The 44-year-old said: “He said the finalisation of the Wilder fight is on hold until they [the Saudis] see what happen on August 12.
“And that’s the risk that we’re in. It’s a big risk [facing Whyte], is it the right risk? We’ll find out.”
“AJ wanted a real fight, he wasn’t motivated to take a lesser, smaller fight.

“But the Wilder fight will be dependent on victory at the O2 Arena on August 12.”
Joshua, 33, recently said of his second clash with Brixton Body Snatcher Whyte: “It’s a huge night for my career.
“I’m gonna be victorious, 100 per cent. That’s my goal, that’s my plan. And yeah, that’s my motivation.

Jake Paul’s life spiralled out of control at the height of his YouTube career
He was slammed by neighbours for throwing wild parties and even had his $10million Los Angeles mansion raided by FBI where guns were confiscated.
It led to sponsorships and opportunities being cut, with the social media personality on the brink of losing it all.
In a new episode of the Netflix documentary series Untold about Jake, dad Greg said: “Jake was so close to being nothing, gone, done. Literally two months from being flat broke.”
Jake, 26, admitted: “It’s not easy to be hate by the whole entire world. It creates a very dark mental place.”

Logan, 28, was also no stranger to controversy and online hate – but he opened up about fearing the worst for his younger brother.
He said: “Both my dad and I felt worried for my brother’s life. Jake’s always been pretty emotionally unpredictable and volatile.
“There was a point where we were both legitimately concerned that Jake was going to kill himself.
“He needed purpose and I didn’t know what he was going to do. What’s he good at?”

Logan would help Jake find the purpose he so desperately craved.
In 2018, they would fight on the same night against British rivals KSI and brother Deji.
Logan drew with KSI but Jake would beat Deji in an event few knew would change the landscape of boxing.
Jake would go on to set his sights on a career in boxing, which in turn finally got him back on the right track.

Since his professional debut in 2020, the prankster-turned-prizefighter has fought seven times.
He has beaten ex-MMA champions Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva on the way.
But in February, Jake was beaten for the first time, losing a split-decision to boxing rival Tommy Fury, 24.
Now, he returns over the weekend in Texas against ex-UFC star Nate Diaz, 38, in a bout he insists is the start of his comeback.
