Prichard Colon’s mum posts video highlights of fight which left her son in a wheelchair saying ‘the signs were ignored’

Colon fell ill backstage after the fight and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he spent 221 days in a coma.
Repeated rabbit punches from Terrell caused part of Colon’s skull to collapse and ultimately left him in a vegetative state with life-threatening injuries.
And Colon’s mother – who has looked after her son ever since that fateful night in Virginia – insists referee Joseph Cooper didn’t do enough to protect the Puerto Rican.
She shared a compilation video of her son – which included footage of the fateful fight – to her official Facebook earlier this week.

Nieves Melendez’s accompanying caption read: “The signs that were ignored.”
Melendez regularly shares updates on her son – who is bed and wheelchair-bound – on social media.
Earlier this month, she shared a clip of Colon dancing with his family while celebrating his birthday.
Colon’s heartbreaking story serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of the sweet science.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder broke down in tears as he discussed Colon’s life-changing injuries last year.
He said: He said: “We’ve seen what happens, look at Colon. How he got hit, Richard Collon, correct.
“This man didn’t have no kids… they don’t understand. Y’all don’t f understand what we go through, man.
“And I don’t even know him like that, but I will always be an advocate for us.
“Because this man will never know what it’s like to be somebody’s father.
“And that’s one of the most precious things in the world, to be somebody’s father.
“But he will never be nobody’s father, man.

How identical twins and boxing champions became estranged in ugly rift during year of ‘havoc’ before rekindling

THE Charlo twins have risen to the top of the boxing world together – but their relationship has taken some blows along the way. The pair were born on May 19, 1990, in Lafayette, Louisiana, but they were schooled and raised in Houston, Texas.

Jermell, the younger of the two, was born one minute after his older brother Jermall.
Both were introduced to boxing at a young age to follow in the footsteps of their dad Kevin, an ex-amateur.
Jermall was the slightly more experienced in the unpaid ranks, with a record of 65-6 before making his professional debut in 2008.
But Jermell – who went 56-8 in the amateurs – turned pro a year prior at just 17.

Both raced to unbeaten records but it was Jermall who touched gold first as he won the IBF light-middleweight title in September 2015.
He made one defense of the belt before a history-defining night presented itself in May 2016.
As Jermell also fought for 154-pound honors, beating John Jackson the same night Jermall defeated Austin Trout.
It meant the two reigned over the light-middleweight division at the very same time.
    Most read in Boxing
Jermell said on the night: “We did it. We made history. We’ve been boxing for all these years, and it had to happen.”
Jermall added: “It was great being the first twins to win titles in the same division, and I’m so proud of my brother.
“I knew he could get the job done.”
Jermell stayed at light-middleweight and became undisputed champion last year when he beat Brian Castano in their rematch.
Meanwhile, Jermall later moved up to the 160-pound middleweight division and became WBC champion there.
The pair have fought on the same card eight times and in 2018, Jermell suffered his first loss, losing to Tony Harrison.
Jermall had beaten Matt Korobov but admitted watching his sibling lose dampened his celebrations.
He said: “It definitely was [hard to celebrate], but we got home and we got over it.

“It’s just part of the game that we just have to get used to. Sometimes it goes our way, sometimes it don’t.
“But it’s still a sport, and you want to be undefeated. You don’t know how to take losses. It’s tough.
“But it’s just boxing at the end of the day, it’s just a segment of our life that my brother overcame.”
Jermell later beat Harrison in their 2019 rematch but cracks started to appear in his relationship with Jermall.
The two have always had a turbulent relationship at times but it reached boiling point as Jermall suffered with his mental health.
He has not boxed since June 2021 – beating Juan Macias Montiel – due to his problems outside the ring.
It even cost him his dream bout with Canelo Alvarez as the American was deemed unable to accept the bout.
Instead, Jermell accepted an offer to jump two divisions to take on the Mexican superstar.
    ‘We don’t see eye-to-eye’
But he did so having spent months without speaking to Jermall and their falling out came under question on fight week.
Jermell revealed: “This family affair thing has been really crazy.
“I try not to touch on that topic too much because at the end of the day I love my brother.
“But I think it’s just that at this current moment we don’t see eye-to-eye.
“It has a lot to do with what he wants in his life and what I want in mine. They are two completely different things.
“Growing up and growing apart from each other is just the nature of life but I just have to accept this just like I accept certain people and the good that comes with the bad.
“One day, hopefully we speak again but right now I’m not in the mood to deal with the havoc that he brings and all the other stuff.”
Jermall raised eyebrows when he showed up in Las Vegas to support his brother Jermell.
I’m feeling better, I’m in a better space, I’ve got better people around me.Jermall Charlo
But he said: “I’mma always be there for my brother man, no matter what the internet or social media is trying to make things out to be.
“I’m feeling better, I’m in a better space, I’ve got better people around me.”
Jermall also confirmed that he is set to return on November 25 against Jose Benavidez Jr.
The world champion looked to come full circle in his recovery as he was filmed coming into Jermell’s dressing room before the Canelo fight.

The two embraced with a hug which was met with loud claps in the room and a heartwarming reaction on social media.
Jermell was later beaten over 12 rounds by Canelo but he did so with his brother back in his corner.

Meanwhile, KSI helped launch the booming crossover boxing business with his pair of bouts with Paul’s older brother Logan.
But his grudge match with Fury has been billed as the biggest bout of them all and it goes down on October 14 in Manchester.
The fight – aired on DAZN PPV – is sure to bring in millions and add to the pair’s growing net worths.
Here, SunSport runs down how much both KSI and Fury are worth heading into their Battle of Britain.

    What is KSI’s net worth?
The Londoner, 30, shot to fame on YouTube but he has since crossed over to the sporting, music and business world.
He has had two albums – with one going to No1 in the charts – all while fighting in the ring.
KSI also launched Misfits Boxing to host crossover-style bouts between stars of the sports and celeb world.
But perhaps his most lucrative venture has been the Prime hydration drink with ex-opponent Logan.

KSI and Logan Paul launched drinks brand Prime
    What is Fury’s net worth?
Fury, 24, debuted in the sport with big boots to fill as the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson.
But he shot to national fame in 2019 after entering popular reality TV show Love Island where he met now fiancee Molly-Mae Hague.
His rising popularity saw Paul take notice and led to a massive box office grudge match between the two, which Fury won on points.
Fury is believed to have made around £4m for the bout and his American rival claimed the Brit is earning £1.5m to fight KSI.

    What are the fight purses?
The exact purse for either man is not yet known.
But KSI is believed to be on a deal that includes PPV bonuses so his money could be made once the box office receipts are added up.
Meanwhile, Dillon Danis – fighting on the undercard – said both he and Fury are being paid a flat fee.

On Paul’s podcast, he said: “KSI is offering you like $1.5m which is way underpaid for Tommy, especially coming off that win. Tommy should be making $5-6m and it’s crazy and bizarre to me that Tommy is even entertaining that.”
But KSI’s manager Mams Taylor hit back: “Absolute nonsense! This kid is so sour.”

Heavyweight champion Fury faces the MMA star, who has Mike Tyson in his corner, in a boxing ring under Queensberry rules over ten rounds.
Supporters are concerned that the fight will be a complete mismatch after a video emerged of Ngannou looking laboured in training.
The Cameroonian-born star seemed to lack a hard-hitting punch as he prepared for the contest with his trainer.
Fans are convinced it will be a routine win for Fury, saying: “This in slow motion?”

Another added: “Man this ain’t gone be funny how much of a mismatch this is going to be.”
A third reacted: “This has to be a joke, he has to be playing into the bad pad work scheme at this point.”
A fourth suggested: “Naaaa Ngannou is getting smoked.”
Despite backing from fans, Fury believes that his opponent will cause him more trouble than some other established heavyweight boxers.

The Gypsy King said: “I think he’s going to be a bit of a bigger, tougher challenge than these other guys. These other guys are just boxers, this guy’s more than that.”

“It’s going to ridicule me – people will chuck it at me forever.

Tyson Fury’s undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk includes key contract clause, Eddie Hearn claims

But, before the two heavyweight stars collide, the Gypsy King announced he had signed a deal to face Usyk after.
According to rival promoter Hearn, the deal includes a rematch clause that means the two will fight twice.
He told iFL TV: “I’ve heard that there’s a rematch clause whatever happens.”
The title fight would offer the chance to crown the division’s first ever four-belt undisputed champion.

But first, Fury must avoid an unthinkable and career-threatening defeat to boxing debutant Ngannou.
Fury told TNT Sports: “He’s about 6ft 5in tall, he’s about 278 pounds, he’s about 18 or 19 stone, a dynamite puncher with both hands.
“He’s recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the hardest puncher to have ever punched anything, so there’s that risk.

“It would be like getting beat by Liverpool for Manchester United, 7-0, wouldn’t it? How do you come back from that?”
Ngannou was less than impressed after Fury announced his fight with Usyk BEFORE their Saudi showdown.
He tweeted: “I don’t know what’s the minimum medical suspension in boxing but I really don’t understand how Tyson can fight in December after what’s going to happen on 10/28.”

Tyson Fury’s promoter reveals record-breaking sum ‘money mad’ Gypsy King is set to make in Oleksandr Usyk fight

But before he even welcomes the MMA star to the ring, it has been revealed Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have signed for a super-fight.
The deal is believed to include two bouts in Saudi, meaning the Gypsy King looks on course for a trio of mega-money nights in the Middle East.
And his US promoter Bob Arum claimed all his business with the Saudis could bank him $200MILLION (£165m).
Arum told Boxing News: “We’re looking for this whole package, there’s other stuff involved that I really believe that at the end of the day, before the end of June, Fury will be reaching close to $200million.”

The potential three-fight package would be a record-breaking deal for a British fighter.
Anthony Joshua, 33, is believed to have earned around £60m in Diriyah when he beat Andy Ruiz Jr, 34, in their 2019 rematch.
And when he landed in Jeddah for his second bout with Usyk, 36, in August 2022, some reports claim he made 50 per cent of the £65m shared fee.
Derek Chisora, who has worked with Saudi boxing bosses before, claimed Fury, 35, is earning $50m (£41m) to fight Ngannou, 37.

So that would leave $150m (£125m) remaining for his proposed double header with Usyk.
If it brings him $75m (£62m) for each fight, that would be the biggest purse for any British boxer.
But Arum refused to confirm whether Fury’s contract with Usyk mandates a rematch.
He said: “I don’t want to talk about that because I’m putting up the money.”
Fury has set his sights on becoming the highest-paid sportsman in the world.
And his dad John told interviewer Rob Moore: “He’s thinking now, especially now he’s in talks and in business meetings with the Saudis, he’s looking at how wealthy that country is.
“Now all of a sudden, click! He’s gone money-mad thinking he can compete with the Saudis.”
Despite the huge sums in the pipeline for Fury, he would have to go some way to topping Floyd Mayweather’s earnings.
