I stood next to Anthony Joshua at his last press conference and the Brit was a ‘NERVOUS’ wreck around me, says Wilder

Despite their public back and forths down the years, both men – who are on course for a March melee if they get through their respective bouts – were extremely cordial with one another and shook hands.
But Wilder sensed something was off with AJ, telling Instant Casino: “For me, he was all nervous.
“Nerves when it comes to me, because they don’t know how I am.
“They don’t know how I am in different situations, so when I came in that relaxed manner it really shocked him. And it shocked a lot of people.”

Wilder and Joshua must get through their respective bouts with Joseph Parker and Otto Wallin this weekend to preserve their March 9 showdown.
And the American will be rooting for his long-time rival to do the business against the Swedish slugger.
He said: “I wish the best for AJ, but it’s been a long time coming between me and him; the anticipation, the hype, this is the number one fight in the world.
“Everywhere I go, that’s the main fight people ask me about and one day soon it will finally happen after all these years of trying over and over again.

“Recently their side admitted they held this fight up; not taking the $50M, lowballing me, flat fees and all that stuff.
“But with patience and time the truth shall reveal itself and it has.
“He’s got to get Wallin out the way and I’ve got to get Parker out the way and may God be with us in those fights and when we come out safe we let the big games begin.”
Should the fight with AJ fail to come to fruition, Wilder will turn his attention to a clash with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
He told talkSPORT: “It is going to be one or the other, it could be [both Joshua and Ngannou in 2024], but I think it is going to be one or the other.
“It can happen that way where I see both of them, but I know for sure that I am going to get one of them, I know that for sure.
“So, the future is bright and I’m looking forward to [fighting] whoever I get into the ring with, whether that is both or one, I am grateful for it all.” More

Why is Ben Davison training Anthony Joshua for Otto Wallin fight?

ANTHONY JOSHUA is counting down the days until his huge Christmas cracker with Otto Wallin – and he has shockingly decided to switch his trainer.Since being embarrassed twice by Oleksandr Usyk, AJ has gone on to secure a unanimous decision victory against Jermaine Franklin before knocking out Robert Helenius just four months later.

And both wins came under the instructions of new trainer Derrick James who once helped Tony Bellew throw 200 punches in each round.
But Joshua has decided to switch trainers once again and SunSport can tell fans why.
Why is Ben Davison training Anthony Joshua?
Legendary boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that Joshua’s choice of trainer has been switched due to travel.
Hearn believes that it will take a lot out of AJ if he travels to Texas to train with James before heading to the Middle East for the huge fight.

Speaking on Fight Hub TV, Hearn said: “It’s more about the location, I mean, six weeks out, very difficult to fly to Texas and then fly across of time zones to the Middle East.
“He’s (Joshua) been training with Ben, the last three or four weeks and Derrick James has been aware of that situation.
“It’s comfortable to train in the UK for this fight.”
Will Anthony Joshua go back to training with Derrick James after the fight?
Eddie Hearn also confirmed that AJ has NOT split with James despite switching trainers for this fight.

And the boxing promoter highlighted that this is a good decision as Davison helped Tyson Fury to beat Wallin in 2019.
Hearn said: “They’re definitely working together moving forward, it’s not a split.
“It’s just time zones and training at home. This was the most effective and economic way to get it done.”

“While we were talking my friend came – I just got out of the hospital from an infection in my leg which I thought I was going to get amputated if the antibiotics didn’t work.
“I completely stopped talking to him and told my friend what happened with my leg and he left.
“Leave it to Instagram DMs we got in touch with each other two weeks before my family reunion which so happen to be in Alabama where Deontay is from. The rest is history.”

Anthony Joshua’s new coach revealed how to ‘exploit’ Otto Wallin after coaching Tyson Fury to victory over Swede

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been using Ben Davison’s experience of working Tyson Fury’s corner to learn how to “exploit” Otto Wallin. AJ will be under the guidance of Davison for the first time on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia in the absence of Derrick James.

And it was only four years ago the young coach was in the corner the night Fury survived a 47-stitch gash to beat Wallin on points.
It has given Joshua the perfect chance to pick Davison’s brains on how to approach the Swedish southpaw.
He said: “I was training with Ben Davison in the UK and this fight came up with seven weeks to go and it would have been crazy to pack up and go to the States.
“Derrick had Ryan Garcia too so I asked Ben and he said, ‘You work hard, cool’.

“We’ve been using Ben’s Wallin experience from a tactics point-of-view, nothing to do with character
“I have never asked, “What was Fury like? What was his preparation like?’ Ben has more respect than to talk about his former fighters like that.
“We have looked at how to defeat Wallin and we know, he has things he can exploit.”

A handful of replacements have been in his corner since – from Angel Fernandez to James – but only Robert Garcia has publicly criticised him.
This Saudi showdown came at seven-weeks notice and James was tied up with a December 2 fight.
So Harlow-based Davison has helped his Hertfordshire neighbour and the heavyweight expects mutual loyalty and no lies.
Joshua explained: “I have been around a lot of coaches in my time, a lot of different gyms, which has been good.
“I was thinking the other day, ‘it will be interesting to hear what Ben has to say about me’.
“Because some of my trainers have said that I am not dedicated and I don’t work hard.
“But I have been around enough coaches now and if you did a survey you would probably get more proper answers than people that are chatting s***.
“I think it has been really good with Ben, as it has been with Derrick.

“I have a great relationship with Derrick, he messaged me today actually but I have to stay focused, I am not on my phone as much, I am not replying to many people.

Anthony Joshua warned he has ‘a long wait’ to fight Tyson Fury after rejecting ‘TWO CHANCES’ to face Gypsy King

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been warned he faces a “long wait” to fight Tyson Fury after rejecting “two opportunities” previously. The British heavyweight rivals famously had a deal in place to fight in Saudi Arabia in August 2021.

But Fury was contracted to a trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder, which he won by 11th-round knockout the following October.
A month beforehand, Joshua would lose his titles to Oleksandr Usyk and was beaten again in the rematch a year later.
Now two years on, Fury is set to face Usyk on February 17 in Saudi in what will be the division’s first four-belt unification.
And it is now Joshua, 34, lined up to fight Wilder, 38, after they both return on Saturday in separate bouts in Riyadh.

Promoter Frank Warren is working alongside Eddie Hearn on the show but he ruled out a Battle of Britain with AJ and Fury for now.
Warren said: “He’d have a long wait for Tyson.
“Tyson’s got his fight and his programme’s set out for next year and at this moment in time doesn’t include Joshua.
“Joshua, he had two opportunities to fight him [Fury], one last December and this year.

“Those fights didn’t happen for whatever reason and the situation is now that we are in a position where a number of big fights will be announced. It all depends what happens on Saturday.”
Fury, 35, could twice face Usyk, 36, as part of a two-bout deal made ahead of their historic undisputed title decider.
Meanwhile Joshua – who returns against Otto Wallin – could finally fight Wilder – up against Joseph Parker next – should they both win.
Warren said: “Should they come through then they’re going to be in a position where I believe they’re going to be facing off next year.
“That’s a massive, massive fight. A fight that a lot of people, certainly the fans talk about a lot.
“But to get there they’ve got to get through next Saturday night in Riyadh.
“Get it out of the way on Saturday and all will be revealed but there’s a will to make this happen and I’m quite sure everybody’s going to be happy with the outcome provided these guys deliver.
“The most important thing for them, they’ve got to deliver.”

Jarrell Miller hijacks Anthony Joshua interview to make X-rated p***y slur against old rival ahead of fights in Saudi

ANTHONY JOSHUA somehow held his nerve and avoided a brawl after drug cheat rival Jarrell Miller sneaked up behind him and called him a “p***y”.While the 34-year-old London 2012 legend was explaining his new training partnership with fellow Englishman Ben Davison ahead of Saturday night’s Otto Wallin fight, the despicable Miller tried to drag up their 2019 row with a sick suckerpunch slur.

The American – who faces Brit Daniel Dubois this weekend – was scheduled to be AJ’s first US opponent before he failed a handful of tests for numerous performance-enhancing drugs.
And Joshua’s career was ravaged by late-replacement opponent Andy Ruiz Jr dropping him four times and stopping him in brutal fashion.
But somehow when confronted by the 25st doper, who came within inches of AJ and growled “I knew I smelled p***y”, ice-cool Joshua ignored his grubby attention-grab to focus on a weekend win inside the ropes.
He calmly told SunSport: “I have to just let him know he is not even in my sights. He is beneath me.

Davison, 27, rocketed to notoriety when he helped mentor Tyson Fury from the 28-stone abyss in 2015 to Deontay Wilder tormentor in 2018, even living in his family home for 14 months.

And afterwards, he opened the door to facing unbeaten English cruiserweight champion Riley in the future.
The British star – who formerly coached Paul’s arch rival KSI – was quick to respond and talked up the potential bout.
Riley said: “If that’s his aspirations, mine are the same and we both weigh 200lb, then yeah it’s inevitable that fight could happen down the line.
“Say I’m world champion, this guy is ranked in the top 15 in the world with said governing body, I would happily, voluntarily defend the title against him, why wouldn’t I?

“I think it would be one of the biggest fights probably, in boxing history with the amount of back story, the amount of build-up.
“It’d be crazy. Everyone would tune in for that.”
Riley, 26, added that he does not see it happening in 2024 but leaves the door open to the fight in the near future.
Paul, also 26, suffered defeat for the first time in February, losing a split-decision to Tommy Fury, 24, in Saudi Arabia.

But he has bounced back with two wins since, on points against ex-UFC contender Nate Diaz, 38, and a knockout of August, 35.
Paul talked down the chances of KSI, 30, accepting a fight against him but would welcome a showdown against his first coach Riley.
He said: “For sure that can happen, that would be interesting and he has a name, a profile and that’s something that excites me for sure.
“As I go down this path I’m going to continue to challenge myself and grow and grow and grow and some of those names start popping into the equation.”
Paul took the fight with little-known August – who had a 10-1-1 record – as he looks to one day challenge for a world championship.

They first drew in 2018 but the Gypsy King settled the score in the subsequent rematches with two stoppage victories.
So it leaves him with expert insight to share with Parker, who returns on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia against Wilder.
Fury said: “Don’t get hit in the face with one of them big KO right hands. You’ll be alright.
“Avoid the right hand! That’s my tip for Parker. What more else can you say? Don’t get hit by the right hand and you’ll win the fight.

“Easy day, isn’t it? Sounds easy, anyway. I think Parker will do him.”
Fury, 35, was dropped twice by Wilder, 38, in their 2018 original but still walked away feeling hard done by with a draw.
But he made no mistake in the rematch and trilogy bout to walk away and keep hold of the WBC belt.
Parker, 31, has been leaning on his advice during his training camp but the New Zealander knows he cannot completely replicate Fury.

He told talkSPORT: “Tyson was able to give me some advice and some knowledge on fighting Deontay Wilder.

“He has given me a few pointers and advice and he’s actually helped me with sparring so any time I have needed Tyson’s help, he’s always been there, so thanks to him for always making time to help me, especially for this camp and this fight coming up.”
