Oleksandr Usyk ‘has secret clause in Tyson Fury fight contract to prevent Gypsy King pulling out again’

OLEKSANDR USYK already has a replacement opponent contracted if Tyson Fury pulls out of their super-fight again. The pair of undefeated champions were set to meet in the heavyweight division’s first four belt undisputed title decider on February 17.

But Fury was forced to withdraw after suffering a horror cut in sparring that required 14 stitches.
The bout has since been postponed to May 18 and both have agreed to forfeit £10MILLION of their own cash if they withdraw.
But Usyk’s trainer Sergey Lapin has also claimed Filip Hrgovic is already lined up to replace Fury if lightening does strike twice.
Lapin told Fruity Slots: “I hope Usyk will get the chance to settle the score with Fury on May 18.

“But if he continues to run, then we have a clause in the agreement to replace Fury with Filip Hrgovic.
“Hrgovic is the back-up opponent, so the show will go on regardless of whether he shows up, this was also confirmed by His Excellency Turki Al Sheikh.”
Fury, 35, was just two weeks out from the fight of his life when an accidental elbow by sparring partner Agron Smakici sliced him open.
But Lapin goaded: “Let’s say he did get cut – through a head guard and with large training gloves – can you imagine what will happen to his head when he receives a bomb from the Usyk in a ten-ounce glove?

Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk could feature major protocol change as boxing bigwig pitches huge plan for undisputed fight

TYSON FURY’s undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk could feature a major change to judging protocol, should WBC chief Mauricio Sulaiman have his way.The duo’s rescheduled showdown for all the heavyweight marbles will take place in Saudi Arabia on May 18 after a horror cut in sparring scuppered their proposed February 17 clash.

The Riyadh rumble will crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era and the first since Lennox Lewis nearly 25 years ago.
And the magnitude of the fight – which has been over two years in the making – has WBC president Sulaiman wanting the introduction of extra ringside judges to avoid any dodgy decisions ruining the mega-bout.
He told Sky Sports: “Boxing is a sport in which change is very difficult to get. We’re purists, traditionalists, we don’t want changes.
“I will continue to make the proposal. Some like the idea, some of the people in the decision-making process. We will see.

“We had proposed to use five judges or six judges.
“However that was not considered. It did not happen. I would still recommend [it].
“We do have a remote scoring system which is used for training and evaluating ring officials from all over the world. They score live in the WBC system that we developed.
“We have found through fights done in this system that the more officials that score a fight, the less possibility of a wrong decision.

TYSON FURY VS OLEKSANDR USYK: ALL THE DETAILS YOU NEED AHEAD OF HUGE UNDISPUTED HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT
“Anybody can have a bad night. If you have one judge have a bad night and the two others get it correct, you still save the fight.
“You have two judges with a difficult fight and then one round can shift the whole result.”
Tyson Fury takes part in gruelling training session ahead of cancelled undisputed Usyk fight
Sulaiman is adamant having more eyes on the fight would eliminate the possibility of one bad scorecard causing chaos.
He continued: “If you have more officials then the possibility of a wrong score goes to a minimum. But we will see.
“That’s the only intention to make sure there’s no controversy.
“Now we have the biggest fight in 25 years in the heavyweight division. So we have to try to do our best.”
Sulaiman, additionally, hopes to introduce video replays for the fight in a bid to further help referees and ringside officials.
He said: “I believe it will happen, now that the fight has been postponed until May 18, three months from now, we will look into it.
“The initial idea was to put together specific guidelines of the usage of instant replay and we’re in that process.
Mauricio Sulaiman also wants to bring in video replays for the Riyadh rumbleCredit: REUTERS
“So we’re going to work with the producers of the feed to see what equipment and what communications are needed, what the review panel will be, just go into details.
“As an example, we did instant replay in the UK with Charlie Edwards and [Julio Cesar] Martinez and we just did instant replay in Fury-Ngannou when Fury was cut.
“The referee he didn’t see any action that cut, ruled it a punch and then the British Boxing Board of Control and myself looked at the screen, the big screen in the stadium and saw the head butt so we called it officially a headbutt.

“But the idea of having the possibility of reviewing a major controversial happening inside the ring, to make the right decision, the right call at the time is basically it.
“To have the absolute certainty that there will not be a controversy. That in a fight of this magnitude would be absolutely unacceptable.” More

Gerald McClellan: The tragic tale of how Britain’s most brutal fight with Benn left ex-champ with life-changing injuries

GERALD MCCLELLAN is the living embodiment and brutal reminder of the dangers of boxing – which are all too often forgotten about. The American middleweight was at the peak of his powers in the early nineties and was, at the time, regarded by many to be one of the best fighters on the planet.

The two-time middleweight champion was a ferocious puncher, who won 29 of his 31 victories by knockout or technical knockout.
McClellan moved up in weight in February 1995 to challenge Nigel Benn for the WBC super-middleweight title in a bid to become a two-weight world champion.
His life, and those of his loved ones, would never be the same after what proved to be a fateful night in London.
McClellan’s bid to become 168lbs king started well as he knocked Benn through the ropes in the first round and asserted his dominance in the ensuing early stanzas.

The firefight many expected between the two heavy hitters ensued, with momentum shifting Benn’s way in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds.
And it was in those rounds that McClellan showed signs of having suffered a traumatic brain injury.
McClellan had difficulty keeping his gumshield in and would go through bouts of excessive blinking as he backed away from Benn.
Had referees, coaches and ringside officials known what we know now about brain trauma and CTE, the fight would have been stopped.

Tragically, however, it continued – with McClellan rallying in the eighth and knocking down The Dark Destroyer.
But Benn dug deep to produce a tenth-round finish, after which McClellan collapsed in his corner and was rushed to the hospital.

Doctors at the nearby Royal London Hospital discovered that he had a blood clot and extensive damage to his brain and performed emergency surgery to save his life.
Save his life they did, although he would remain in a coma for 11 days before regaining consciousness.
Watch first footage of Nigel Benn in training with fans worried legend looks ‘sluggish’ and is making ‘big mistake’ to come out of retirement aged 55
McClellan’s traumatic brain injury saw him lose his eyesight, 80 per cent of his hearing and the ability to walk unaided.
His family flew to London to be by his bedside during his period of unconsciousness, with his sisters – in particular Lisa – looking after him ever since.
In the years since his fateful fight with Benn, McClellan has managed to regain some of the ability to walk – although his memory has never been the same.
He does, however, sometimes recall the fact he was once one of the best middleweights on the planet.
When he was recently visited by Boxing News in his home in Freeport, Illinois, McClellan said: “I’m Gerald Allen McClellan Senior!
“My position in boxing: middleweight champion of the world!”
Although he somewhat regained the ability to walk, McClellan is sadly now resound to spending most of his days in his armchair.
And the sharp and cerebral mind that he used to great effect in his fights is now, tragically, a sad and withered version of itself.
That night at the London Arena serves as a dark reminder of the dangers of the Sweet Science, so much so that Benn tries his best not to dwell on it.

Gerald McClellan and Nigel Benn were reunited 12 years after their warCredit: REUTERS
He told Ring Magazine in 2020: “I rarely think about it, to be honest, and it’s only discussed when someone brings it up.
“It’s a part of my life that’s behind me and I don’t really dwell on it, or put in a specific category.”
Twelve years after their war, Benn and McClellan were reunited for a benefit event to raise funds for the American’s care.
Benn said: “We raised $250,000 (£198,000) for Gerald and that was such a joy.
“The benefit night was a complete sell-out in London.
“It was so difficult because I had to shout in Gerald’s ear so he could hear what I was saying but he told me it was an accident, that it wasn’t my fault.
“I was so happy to see him but my emotions were up, and down, up and down. I didn’t know whether to be happy, or cry, or be sick.
“I’ve never experienced so many emotions at one time in my life.
“I held Gerald’s hand and Lisa told me all the stories about his aftercare.

Manny Pacquaio BANNED from boxing at Paris Olympics as little-known rule ruins legend’s dream

MANNY Pacquaio will not be competing at Paris 2024, after the International Olympic Committee upheld their rule on the age limit.Pacman, who hung up his gloves in 2021, had aspirations of competing at this year’s Games at the age of 45.

The boxing event is set to be held at the illustrious Roland Garros tennis complex.
But the Philippines legend won’t be there due to a little known ruling.
The IOC, which oversees Olympic boxing after de-recognising the International Boxing Association governing body, confirmed on Sunday that they wrote to Olympic officials in Philippines explaining the age limit for boxers will stay at 40 years old.
The age limit was raised from 34 to 40 back in 2013.
    Read more boxing news
That would have allowed Pacquiao to compete at Rio 2016, although he chose to be a senator in his homeland instead.
Although it was believed he wanted to try and win a medal at Paris 2024, it was unclear if Pacquiao would have tried to fight at the qualifiers that start this month in Italy and conclude in Thailand in May.
Reports suggested the Philippines Olympic body were keen to get Pacquiao in as a “universality” entry.
These are free passes, effectively, that are allotted to countries with fewer athletes at the Games and struggle to have others qualify on merit.
    Most read in Boxing
However, past sporting success for the Philippines has meant that request wasn’t granted.
“Universality places are not allocated to (teams) with an average of more than eight athletes in individual sports/disciplines at the last two editions of the Olympic Games,” the IOC said.
I fought Manny Pacquaio and Canelo but my toughest opponent was ‘the drunken master’ who’s record didn’t show his skill
“This is the case for the Philippine Olympic Committee.”
Pacquaio’s remarkable career came to an end in 2021, after 72 fights.
He won a staggering 12 world titles at a record eight different weight divisions. More
