I’ve sparred Anthony Joshua AND Tyson Fury, they are two different boxers and here’s how they compare

AGRON SMAKICI became a household name after unfortunately cutting Tyson Fury – but he was already well-respected in boxing circles. Smakici holds a 20-2 record in the ring but he is a sought after southpaw sparring partner for the likes of Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Tyson Fury before his cancelled fight with Oleksandr Usyk
AJ recruited the Croatian before his 2022 rematch loss to Oleksandr Usyk and for his last fight, a stoppage win over Otto Wallin in December.
Fury then brought Smakici over to Saudi Arabia to help him also prepare for Usyk for the planned February 17 title unification.
But the undisputed bout was scrapped just two weeks prior when Smakici accidentally elbowed Fury in sparring to cause a horror gash.
The heavyweight contender – who also holds a 1-1 MMA record – is in the unique position of having sparred Britain’s two biggest boxing stars.

And breaking down how they compare to SunSport, Smakici said: “For me, Joshua has huge power. Knockout power.
“And Fury is a more dancer and technical boxer. It’s two kinds of worlds in boxing.”
Joshua, 34, returns on March 8 in Riyadh against ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou, 37.
And Smakici warned: “It’s big power, it’s huge power. We’re gonna see with Francis Ngannou. I believe Joshua is going to knock Ngannou out.”

The knockdown and stunning performance convinced AJ to come to the table for another crossover clash.
And Smakici believes Joshua will be on his A-game after watching Fury almost fail the test of Ngannou.
He said: “I think Joshua will take him much more serious than Tyson Fury, so there’s a big difference. I go for victory for Anthony Joshua.”

I’m an MMA expert, Francis Ngannou will BEAT Anthony Joshua as Brit is easier to rattle than Tyson Fury

MMA expert Dan Hardy has backed Francis Ngannou to BEAT Anthony Joshua because the Brit is easier to “rattle” than Tyson Fury. Ngannou put his cage career on hold last year to make a stunning switch to boxing.

And in his ring debut, he astonishingly floored Fury, only to fall victim to a controversial points loss in Saudi Arabia.
But the disputed decision did not stop AJ coming to the table to agree another crossover clash for Ngannou, set for March 8 in Riyadh.
And ex-UFC star-turned pundit Hardy believes this is a more favourable match-up for the Cameroonian, who he expects to cause an upset.
Hardy told Sky Sports: “I’m going with Ngannou genuinely.

“I picked Fury in the last one. I felt Fury was going to be able to catch him fifth or sixth round once he started to get tired. But this for me is a much better match-up for Ngannou.
“I feel like AJ’s easier to hit, easier to rattle psychologically and I feel like because of the unknown commodity of Francis Ngannou there’s going to be a shock to the system.”
Hardy knows Ngannou is not going to be the only heavy hitter in the ring but he believes the former UFC champion’s power will shock Joshua.
He said: “There’s an unquantifiable power about Ngannou and that’s concerning because he can punch through a decent guard.

“I feel like AJ’s going to feel punches coming through his guard and they’re going to surprise him a little bit.
“Because Ngannou will let them go and try and really hurt him. But they’ve both got to respect one another’s power.

“If Ngannou gets tired, he gets over-extended, he leaves himself open, AJ’s going to pick him apart and it could look like a very easy night for him.
“AJ knows how to land and deliver a punch. He’s very precise. He’s very powerful as we know.”

Amir Khan says Oleksandr Usyk has ‘advantage’ in Tyson Fury fight and reveals what will ‘work against’ Gypsy King

AMIR KHAN says Tyson Fury has already been forced to concede a big advantage to Oleksandr Usyk in their undisputed super-fight. Fury, 35, and Usyk, 36, were set to contest for all four world title belts, making heavyweight history, on February 17 in Saudi Arabia.

Amir Khan talking to SunSport in Saudi ArabiaCredit: sunsport
But the Gypsy King was forced out of the historic unification after suffering a horror cut in sparring just two weeks out.
He required over ten stitches to mend his injury and ensure he will be fit for the rescheduled May 18 date.
But that only gives Fury three months to recover from the cut in time for the fight of his life – leaving even Khan fearful.
He told SunSport in Riyadh: “I just think he’ll just have to body spar, which I think will work against him.
    READ MORE IN boxing
“So let’s just hope that Tyson is at 100 per cent, it’s not long after that cut they’ve only given him three months.
“In three months, it usually takes a month and a half to kind of heal but it’s still going to be weak, it’s still going to be weak skin.”
Bookies, pundits and experts alike were struggling to split the pair of unbeaten champions.
So Fury heading into the bout potentially nursing an injury could give Usyk an all important leg up.

Khan, 37, said: “I think Usyk has more of an advantage now.
“Before, he always had an advantage going into this fight but now obviously he’s got more of an advantage now.”
EXCLUSIVE: Ngannou wants Brit Hollywood star to play him in movie about crazy journey from sand mines to fighting Fury and Joshua
Fury has always performed best with his back against the wall and perhaps never more so has he needed to show that.
But Khan said: “If Tyson shows too much confidence he might get caught with that shot.
“You’ve got to understand, Usyk is a precise puncher, he knows when to throw his shots, his timing is perfect.
“He’s an Olympic gold medalist, he’s a f***ing amazing fighter. You have to give him that respect.
“Tyson should stay away and box him and not get hit on that eye because like I say, I don’t know if three months is long enough. It was a big gash.”

Amir Khan, 37, back in training and reveals which mega-fight will bring him out of retirement with dig at Jake Paul

AMIR KHAN has revealed he is back training again with a big fight on his mind – but it will NOT be against Jake Paul. The British boxing icon retired in 2022 following his bitter loss to arch rival Kell Brook after decades of feuding.

But the former world champion has teased a comeback ever since and is even now keeping fit in the gym.
Talks in 2023 emerged for Khan to face old sparring partner and friend Manny Pacquiao in Saudi Arabia.
And Khan admitted that is the fight that would bring him back to the ring one more time.
He told SunSport in Riyadh: “I mean I am training a little bit here and there but the thing is the only man that can make that fight happen is Turki Alalshikh.

“I think Turki Alalshikh can make that fight happen between me and Manny Pacquiao.
“Yeah, that’s a fight that would definitely lift me up, for sure.”
Pacquiao, 45, hung up his gloves a year before Khan in 2021 following defeat to Yordenis Ugas, 37.
But after a failed presidential election in the Philippines, the eight-division champ opened the door to a boxing comeback.

He even faced Korean martial arts YouTuber DK Yoo in December 2022 and recently announced he was out of retirement.
Pacquiao and Khan were pictured together in October in Saudi before Tyson Fury’s win over Francis Ngannou, fuelling speculation of a bout.
Khan also called out YouTuber-turned boxer Jake Paul, who is in 8-1 in the ring following just one loss to Tommy Fury, 24.
But the 2004 Olympic silver medalist jibed that not even a huge payday could actually motivate him to fight Paul, 27.
Khan, 37, said: “Jake Paul, I don’t think I can lift myself up for that fight. But, like a Manny Pacquiao fight you have to be on your A-game.”

MMA star Renan Ferreira scores 20 second KO in front of Mike Tyson to secure Francis Ngannou fight and huge $2m payday

RENAN FERREIRA sent a brutal message to Francis Ngannou following his stunning 20 SECOND knockout of Ryan Bader. The Professional Fighters League champion headlined in Saudi Arabia against Bellator star Ryan Bader.
Renan Ferreira knocked out Ryan Bader

And not only would the winner leave Riyadh with bragging rights and a championship belt but also a life-changing bout against Ngannou.
The PFL announced the victor would be the man to welcome Ngannou back to the MMA cage.
And Ferreira made short work of Bader after dropping the former UFC contender with a right hand in the opening stages.
It did not take very long for the referee to then jump in as the giant 6ft 8in Brazilian reined down brutal strikes.

Ngannou sat next to Mike Tyson cageside and watched on as Ferreira called him out following his KO of the night.
He said: “I’m the record breaker, I’m the record setter. Francis, where you at? I’m waiting, let’s do this. I’m the champion out here.”
Ngannou, 37, last year walked out on the UFC to sign for rivals PFL, who allowed him to pursue boxing along with his MMA commitments.

Jon Jones throws shock support to Francis Ngannou in Anthony Joshua fight… but thinks MMA rival will LOSE boxing bout

The Cameroonian made a switch to boxing after walking out on the UFC and the offer of a $10million (£8m) payday to fight Jones.
He instead signed for the Professional Fighters League, who gave Ngannou the freedom he always wanted to box at the same time.
Jones joined the heavyweight cageside in Riyadh for the PFL vs Bellator event and he was probed on the boxing bout with AJ.
And Jones replied: “I’m rooting for Francis to win, only because his story, how far he’s come in life and being a fellow mixed martial artist.

“So I’m rooting for Francis but Anthony Joshua, he’s being doing this since he was a young boy and I’m the type of guy who just gives respect where it’s due.
“So if I was to put my money on it – not that I gamble – I would put it on Anthony Joshua but I am rooting for Francis.”
Ngannou, 37, astonishingly dropped Fury, 35, but still suffered a controversial split-decision loss.
Although the performance was enough to bring Joshua, 34, to the table for another huge crossover clash in the desert.

Meanwhile Jones, 36, is coming off a chest injury that forced him out of his UFC title fight against Stipe Miocic, 41, in November.
He has since been called out by interim champ and British star Tom Aspinall, 30, while the PFL are open to a cross-promotion to fight Ngannou.
EXCLUSIVE: Ngannou wants Brit Hollywood star to play him in movie about crazy journey from sand mines to fighting Fury and Joshua
But Jones diplomatically said: “I feel like there’s a lot of fights that the world wants right now.
“The Tom Aspinall fight is still really massive, Francis Ngannou and I would be really massive.
“And Stipe, to the hardcore fans, it’s still a respectable opponent. I don’t know how the cards are gonna fall.
“My prediction is I would beat Stipe Miocic, my prediction is I would beat Tom Aspinall and Francis Ngannou.
“The way it unfolds is really not of my business my job is just to always do what I’ve done from day one.” More
