‘It was a good storyline!’ – Amir Khan comes clean about Kell Brook sparring session after claiming he won one-handed

AMIR KHAN has finally come clean about his infamous sparring session with Kell Brook… by admitting he cannot even remember it. A few rounds while the pair were just schoolboys on the England squad would go on to create a grudge match two decades in the making.

Khan claimed on several occasions – including at their pre-fight press conference in November – that he taught Brook a lesson using only one hand.
He said at the time: “Why is it I got picked for the Olympic team? Because I was schooling Kell Brook with one hand.
“I used to be going to the training camp and the coach would be telling me, ‘Amir, just use one hand against him now’.
“I’d go, ‘Which hand do you want? Do you want the jab, the left hook or the uppercut?’ And they’d go, ‘Just throw the jab’.
“And I used to school him with the jab.”
But by the time the pair finally shared the ring – for real with reputations on the line – it was Brook who secured bragging rights for life.

He punched Khan all over the ring in the Manchester Arena before referee Victor Loughlin put a stop to the fight in round six.
After it was all said and done, the two were asked what really went on during that sparring session all those years ago.
Refreshingly up front, Khan, 35, responded: “To be honest with you Kell I don’t even remember the sparring sessions.
“I’m serious do you remember them Kell? Listen I sparred Brian Rose when I was 15 and I remember that he kept picking me off.
“But I can’t even remember me and Kell sparring but it made a good storyline no?”
Brook, also 35, replied: “It was that long ago, listen it is irrelevant now.”
After the years of trash talk, threats and bad blood, the pair embraced after the fight, and could become Britain’s latest rivals-turned-pals overnight.

And Khan, 35, took the defeat graciously as the pair hugged it out in the ring and then again in the post-fight press conference.
The Bolton-based fighter then paid tribute to Brook’s display.
He said: “No excuses the better man won and he boxed out of his skin I have to say.
“I didn’t expect that from him, especially from the fights I have seen before.
“No disrespect to Kell, he put on a great performance today and he came out to win.
“At the end of the day we have rivalries but as I say after I punch them we can be friends.

Kell Brook tells Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr to fall in and fight each other if they want to face him

KELL BROOK has told Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr to fall in and fight each other if they want to follow in Amir Khan’s bloody footsteps.Rising welterweight prospect Benn, 25, was ringside in Manchester to watch the Sheffield ace take apart his fellow 35-year-old on Saturday but was refused access to the ring post-fight to challenge the winner.

And middleweight 32-year-old Chris Eubank Jr was also in town to watch the 20-year feud get settled, before offering his victorious Sky Sports stablemate a summer showdown.
Eubank Jr appears the front runner as it would offer Brook a move up to the 160lbs (11st 7lbs) limit, on their shared TV channel, after Khan’s strict catchweight demands just saw him drain down to 149lbs.
“Me and Kell Brook need to get it on in the summer,” the son of British ring legend Chris Sr roared. “It’s a massive fight for British boxing.
“Me and Kell don’t get on, we have beef and history, he has said before that he wants to ‘kick my head in’.
“He wants it and he proved on Saturday that he could do it. I was not expecting Kell to be as dominant, the man has still got some spice. But let’s see how spicy he can get with me.
“His performance against Khan makes our fight incredible. I am coming off of a big win, I am letting my hand heal and then we can go in the summer.”

Eubank Jr and Brook fell out around 2016 when Brook leapfrogged him in negotiations for his dream mega-money fight with Gennady Golovkin.
And Brook was happy to confirm the bad blood still simmers, saying: “I don’t like him and that fight can happen.
“I am going to sit down with my family and see what they want me to do because I think I still have plenty left.
“I will have talks with Eubank and see what happens.
“I know I am at the backend of my career but I know I can fight again once I finish enjoying this win.”
Benn was blocked from gatecrashing the post-fight truce that broke out between the two proud Northerners.
But the Essex hardman is eager to lure either man back down south to his weight class but his exclusive broadcasting deal with DAZN makes him the outside bet to be Brook’s next opponent.
He growled: “The chances of me and Kell happening are quite high.

“It would be a massive domestic fight, I want to challenge myself against those who say they are the best in Britain and he’s that guy.
“I want that fight. I’ll be talking to the team.”
Mischievous Brook though – a bonafide former IBF world champion – suggested the two famous fighting offspring, who are yet to win major honours of their own, fight each other to earn the crack at him.
He grinned: “I think maybe they should fight each other first.
“I’ve just beaten Amir Khan, I am flavour of the month again, so I’m the man. They have to get in line.
“I am just going to enjoy this win, I want to spend some time with my beautiful kids, because I have been away so long.” More

On the win, Brook said: “I always knew it was going to happen. What a feeling. I’m back on top now and I’ve got the bragging rights.
“I always knew from when I was 18 that I was a better fighter than him and tonight the fans got to see a mega fight and I dealt with him.
“I even had to put different gloves on in the ring.
“I was told they weren’t gonna pay me if I didn’t put them on.

And after the fight, the likes of Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr have expressed an interest in fighting Brook.
Whereas Carl Froch believes Brook should retire off the back of his win.
Froch said: “I don’t like the fact that he was called out by Chris Eubank Jr.
“I don’t think that’s a wise move for him. This should be his final fight, his swansong.
“He’s put that ghost to bed with the fight that should have happened years and years ago.”
But the chances of Brook taking Froch’s advice are slim, with the 35-year-old ‘prize fighter’ insisting he’ll fight on if ‘the millions are out’ there.
So who could Brook face next?
    Floyd Mayweather
The legendary Floyd Mayweather was called out by Brook’s trainer Dominic Ingle after the win over Khan.
That fight will certainly see Brook earn the ‘millions’ he’s looking for.
Ingle said: “He seems to want to fight everybody that’s not a boxer. But why not? If it can be made, Ben (Shalom, Brook’s promoter) you’re the man, apparently.
“You’re the new man on the block, so get in touch with Floyd and whether it’s an exhibition or a fight, it’s probably something we can do.”
And although Brook and Khan have put their rivalry to bed, Brook could add further insult to injury by fighting the man Khan wasted years chasing.

    Chris Eubank Jr
Eubank Jr was in attendance for last night’s fight and admitted he’d be open to fighting Brook.
And he says Brook proved he still has the ‘spice’ to compete at top level.
Eubank Jr said: “He’s proven tonight that he still has the spice.
“Now I wanna see how spicy he can get with me because I’m not Amir Khan.
“We have history, he’s the reason I didn’t fight Gennady Golovkin and I’ve never forgiven him for that.”

    Conor Benn
Benn, 25, wants to ‘take care of business’ for pal Khan by beating Brook next.
And it could give the up and coming Benn the chance to claim a big scalp.
The undefeated, hard-hitting Destroyer said: “I fancy that fight next. I just messaged my trainer. I fancy that fight next. That’s what I said.
“If I have to wait, I will wait. If I don’t, then I don’t. I just want that fight.
“He claims to be the best in Britain. He looked unbelievable tonight, he looks in shape, he looked great on the scales.
“Now that is me challenging myself against a former world champion who claims to be the best.
“Idols to rivals, that’s what it is.”

    Terence Crawford
Khan was trained by Terence Crawford, the undefeated 38-0 WBO welterweight champ, for his loss to Brook.
Crawford beat both Khan and Brook in 2019 and 2020 respectively, but for Brook he could look for redemption.
He was stopped in the fourth round last time out at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.
Brook proved his point by beating Khan, could he go back to prove himself against Crawford?

    Amir Khan
Brook could face Khan again with the contract having a rematch clause in it.
So Khan could look to exact revenge on Brook despite being convincingly beat.
Promoter Shalom confirmed there is a clause for a rematch, does not expect to see round two.
Speaking before the bout, he revealed: “There is a rematch clause as a precaution should anything go wrong.
“But I can’t see it going to a rematch.”
    Khan himself is contemplating retiring.
The former unified world light-welterweight champion said:”I need to sit down with my family.
“That love for the sport is not there anymore like it was before.
“I felt quite flat, I think that’s maybe a sign I should be calling it a day, but let’s see.”

Tyson Fury’s dad John warned son ahead of first Deontay Wilder fight he’d ‘never speak to him again’ if he fought him

TYSON FURY once revealed that his father threatened to never speak to him again if he agreed to fight Deontay Wilder the first time. The Gypsy King demolished the Bronze Bomber back in February 2020 with an incredible display to win the WBC heavyweight world title.

The pair have shared the ring three times, in one of the greatest trilogy series of this generation.
They drew firstly in 2018, but Fury won the following two, most recently an 11th-round knockout in October in the best heavyweight fight for decades.
It has left Wilder, 36, considering retirement but the American has received support from his great rival since.
That capped a remarkable recovery for the Morecambe-based fighter after he had battled back from severe depression.
It was in November 2015 that he first stunned the boxing world with a points victory over unified champ Wladimir Klitschko.
However a planned rematch was cancelled after Fury’s mental health issues began, leading to drug problems and a rapid rise in body weight.

Fury appeared at a press conference for the return fight horrendously out of shape and had his titles stripped before he could defend them.
After a long road to recovery and shedding over 10st following a three-year absence from the ring, he eventually returned to beat Albanian veteran Sefer Seferi in June 2018.
Francesco Pianeta was quickly brushed aside before Fury’s rapid re-elevation took him to a title clash against Wilder that December.
Fury bravely climbed off the mat in the final round of their dramatic draw in Los Angeles after appearing to be KOed by the American.
And it was a fight his dad John never wanted him to take so soon after his boxing comeback.
In a video released by Xperience VIP in August 2020 that was shared onto the boxer’s Twitter, his father explained how he vowed not to talk to his son if he accepted the Wilder challenge.
John says: “If you do that I’ll never speak to you as long as I live because you will get hurt.
“You’ve just lost 10st in as many months, you’re not ring fit at all son.
“I said ‘leave it, you’ve had a couple of warm-up fights, your strength ain’t there, you cannot knock a hole in a wet paper bag. Where’s your sense?’
“He said: ‘Dad, I’m a fighting man and if I get beat I get beat. I’m going to do what Joshua is frightened to do and step in the ring.
“‘If he beats me he beats me, the best man will win.’”
John adds:“It went from there and the rest is history. And it was the best comeback of all-time – who gets up in the 12th round like that? He was out, cold out… divine intervention I tell you.” More

Amir Khan fears that he peaked too early in his career – resulting in his loss to Kell Brook.
Khan reflected on his earlier successes in his career when assessing if it’s time to call it a day in the ring.
He said: “My boxing career, I’ve done more than I ever expected.
“Maybe I peaked too early in my career. At 17 I was in the Olympics, won a world title at 21/22 – I’m 35 now, been in the game a very long time.
“I’m an old man now. I want to spend time with my kids and my family.”
    Brook’s pinnacle career moment
Kell Brook has revealed that beating Amir Khan was the pinnacle of his career.
And he has no plans of hanging up his gloves anytime soon.
Kell Brook: “I’ve had a fantastic career. Over to America [to beat] Shawn Porter for the IBF title. Been in with GGG, Spence, Crawford. This [Amir Khan] is the icing on the cake for me. I can live at peace with myself. I’m gonna sit down with my family, see if we wanna carry on.”— Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn) February 20, 2022

    Khan praises Brook’s performance
Amir Khan offered no excuses for his loss at the hands of long-time foe Kell Brook.
The pair have been at logger-heads for a decade and Brook got the better of Khan when they finally settled their differences.
However, after the fight Khan had nothing but good things to say about his adversary.
He said: “No excuses the better man won and he boxed out of his skin I have to say.
I didn’t expect that from him especially from the fights I have seen before.
“No disrespect to Kell he put on a great performance today and he came out to win. At the end of the day we have rivalries but as I say after I punch them we can be friends.
“He put a great performance on and did everything he needed to. He was the best man tonight. I had a great, great training camp, but I just couldn’t get going.
“I was missing quite a lot. Kell was on his A-game, all respect goes out to him.”
    Brooks’ brutality paid off
Brook’s took no prisoners when he discarded of Khan last night.
Before the fight, both fighters predicted how they planned to win the brawl.
But in the end Brook prevailed, and after the fight stats were revealed, it was clear there would only be one winner on the night.
The stats from the fight showed that Brook landed 64 power punches – compared to Khan’s measly 19, talkSPORT reported.
    Best of British
Conor Benn is ready to go toe-to-toe with Kell Brook after being impressed with his counterpart’s demolition of Amir Khan.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Benn mused: “After Josh Kelly messed up, who is there now for me?
“Who can I really test myself against? Who claims to be the best in Britain?
“He is still sharp, he has still got his timing, he has still got accuracy. That makes the fight more realistic.”
    Brook calls out Eubank
Kell Brook has called out Chris Eubank Jr after his brutal stoppage of Amir Khan last night.
The Sheffield-born slugger name-dropped Eubank when asked who he plans to fight next.
And if the price is right, Brook’s open to getting in the ring with anybody – especially Eubank.
He told Sky Sports: “I don’t like Eubank, we could fight Eubank, there’s some big fights out there for me.
“If the millions are out I will fight because I’m a prize fighter at the end of the day. I’ve three beautiful daughters who want that money off me, at the end of the day I’m a prize fighter.”
    Coffee break
Kell Brook revealed that he and Amir Khan buried their decade-long feud after the fight and even lined up a future coffee date.
And even though Brook got the better of his former foe, he still found time to praise Khan for his brave display.
Brook told Behind the glove: “I said, ‘Listen, you’ve got the heart of a lion’. He took some big shots.
“I said, ‘Listen, let’s just put that to bed now’. We both said we’re going to put that to bed and maybe have a coffee one time.”
    Brook: I told ya
Kell Brook had ‘I told ya’ written on his hand wraps.
He really did after that display.
The Sheffield star pummelled his fierce rival Khan as the fight wore on, and what emotion he showed at the end.

    Khan holding retirement talks
Amir Khan has hinted that that will be the final time we will see him in a boxing ring.
Devastated Khan said following his defeat: “When I was in the ring, I used to have that excitement and that push.
“I just didn’t have it in me. I felt quite flat.
“That may be a sign for me, that maybe I am calling it a day.”

    Brook on his 4am disruption
Kell Brook claimed someone was making noise trying to make him up at 4am the night before his huge victory.
Brook said of some suspected underhand tactics: “I even had someone knocking on my hotel door at 4am in the morning trying to upset my preparation.
“They tried to get into my head all week but I took care of business. I can live at peace with myself. I’m back, baby.”
    Khan’t go on anymore
Amir Khan has all-but confirmed he is retiring from boxing, saying he wants to spend time with family and has loads of money in the bank.
Khan told SecondsOut: “I think the timing wasn’t there, my reactions were kind of slow.
“My speed there but reaction on shots he was coming at me [with] wasn’t there and that’s a sign to me.
“I’ve made tons of money from the sport boxing, I think it’s time I spent time with my loved ones now.
“I think it’s time to maybe call it a day.”

Revealed: What Brook said to Khan
Kell Brook revealed what he said to Amir Khan at the end of the fight during their embrace.
Brook said after his triumph: “I said, ‘Listen, you’ve got the heart of a lion’. He took some big shots.
“I said, ‘Listen, let’s just put that to bed now’. We both said we’re going to put that to bed and maybe have a coffee one time.
“Whoever gets in that ring, you have to give them that respect. He put up a fight, he just came second tonight.”

    Big fight stats
Kell Brook led on ALL of the punch stats for the fight.
The Sheffield star landed 79 blows to Khan’s 39.
Dominant victory for Brook as the 35-year-old gained redemption.

    There IS a rematch clause
Should he fancy it and not retire, Amir Khan can get revenge for his brutal loss to Kell Brook as the pair’s grudge match has a rematch clause.
Brook finally settled the score with his bitter rival in a fight of the year contender Manchester a few hours ago.
However, promoter Ben Shalom does not expect it to be exercised.
Speaking before the bout, he revealed: “There is a rematch clause as a precaution should anything go wrong.
“But I can’t see it going to a rematch. This could end in a knockout and I don’t think the other fighter will want a rematch after this.
“Whoever wins on Saturday night will be the winner and it will be left at that.”
Eubank Jr says Brook has spice
Chris Eubank Jr said after being called out by Kell Brook: “He’s proven tonight that he still has the spice.
“Now I wanna see how spicy he can get with me because I’m not Amir Khan.
“We have history, he’s the reason I didn’t fight Gennady Golovkin and I’ve never forgiven him for that.”
    Mayweather vs Brook
Floyd Mayweather was called out by Kell Brook’s trainer Dominic Ingle after they finally got one over on Amir Khan.
Khan spent several wasted years of his prime chasing a mega-money fight with Mayweather, to no avail.
Ingle said: “He seems to want to fight everybody that’s not a boxer. But why not? If it can be made, Ben you’re the man, apparently.
“You’re the new man on the block, so get in touch with Floyd and whether it’s an exhibition or a fight, it’s probably something we can do.”

    What Brook said to Khan
Kell Brook has revealed what he said to Amir Khan at the end of the fight.
Brook revealed: “I said, ‘Listen, you’ve got the heart of a lion’. He took some big shots.
“I said, ‘Listen, let’s just put that to bed now’. We both said we’re going to put that to bed and maybe have a coffee one time.
“Whoever gets in that ring, you have to give them that respect. He put up a fight, he just came second tonight.”
    Khan gives respect to Brook
Khan took his beating magnanimously, and said the best man won.
Khan said in his dressing room after the fight: “I’m very upset. I just couldn’t get it going.

    Brook on 4am disruption
Kell Brook says someone was making noise trying to make him up at 4am last night.
Brook said of some suspected underhand tactics: “I even had someone knocking on my hotel door at 4am in the morning trying to upset my preparation.
“They tried to get into my head all week but I took care of business. I can live at peace with myself. I’m back, baby.”
Kell Brook ‘knew it was going to happen’
Special K roared: “I always knew it was going to happen. What a feeling.
“I’m back on top now and I’ve got the bragging rights.
“I always knew from when I was 18 that I was a better fighter than him and tonight the fans got to see a mega fight and I dealt with him.
“I even had to put different gloves on in the ring. I was told they weren’t gonna pay me if I didn’t put them on.
    Eubank Jr on Brook fight
Eubank Jr, 32, told Sky Sports: “I don’t like him, he don’t like me. We can make it happen.”
Their feud dates back to 2016, when Eubank Jr saw talks to fight middleweight king Gennady Golovkin collapse.
Brook would jump two divisions to face GGG – losing in five rounds and suffering a fractured eye socket in the process.
Eubank Jr mocked the loss for years and Brook has not forgotten it, opening the door to a fight in the near future.
He said: “I’ve got three daughters, and they need these millions.”
    Khan speaks on retirement
Beaten Khan said: “I need to sit down with my family.
“That love for the sport is not there anymore like it was before.
“I felt quite flat, I think that’s maybe a sign I should be calling it a day, but let’s see.”
    Rematch clause inserted
Amir Khan can get revenge for his brutal loss to Kell Brook as the pair’s grudge match has a rematch clause.
    Brook’s hand wraps
Brook had ‘I told ya’ written on his hand.
    He did too.

After the bout, Khan admitted that this may be the end of his illustrious 18-year career.
But his pal Benn, 25, wants to ‘take care of business’ for him by beating Brook next.
He told talkSPORT: “The big domestics are what we want.
“After Josh Kelly messed up, who is there now for me? Who can I really test myself against? Who claims to be the best in Britain?
“He is still sharp, he has still got his timing, he has still got accuracy. That makes the fight more realistic.”
Further quizzed about what weight they’d fight at, he replied: “I would fight him at 150. It don’t bother me or my team. It really don’t.

UFC star Khabib’s manager claims YouTuber Jake Paul would ‘beat the s***’ out of Conor McGregor and his teammates

KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV’S manager has claimed Jake Paul would ‘beat the s***’ out of Conor McGregor and all his team-mates. YouTuber Paul has been relentlessly pursuing a boxing match with McGregor and even claimed he sent the UFC star a $50million (£37m) deal.

It came after he called The Notorious an ‘Irish c***’ and insulted his fiancee Dee Devlin last year.
The viral callout earned the respect of Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz – who himself has a bitter rivalry with McGregor.
Abdelaziz told TMZ Sports: “Jake Paul, I like this kid. You know why? Because he is real.
“When he talked about Conor’s wife, [Paul] said [McGregor] talked about Khabib’s wife. I like Jake Paul.
“I think he’ll beat the s**t out of Conor, Conor’s team-mates, all these guys.
“I like his brother too. Logan Paul, I like these kids, they make something from nothing. Even Mike Tyson likes these kids. Mike is my friend.”

Paul even went after UFC president Dana White in a desperate bid to entice McGregor back into the ring.
But the Dublin southpaw – who lost his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather in 2017 – is more interested in his cage career.
McGregor, 33, lost his trilogy fight to Dustin Poirier, 32, after breaking his leg in the Octagon but is now nearing a comeback after bulking up massively during his time off. More
