SERGEY KOVALEV firmed an elbow from Kubrat Pulev’s brother Tervel in his cruiserweight points win. Former light-heavyweight champion Kovalev had not fought since knockout defeat to Canelo Alvarez, 31, in 2019.

The Russian returned up in weight on a Triller show and did so against the younger brother of heavyweight Pulev.
Kovalev, 39, comfortably beat Tervel, 39, over ten rounds but had his chin tested in the seventh following an accidental elbow.
That was about all he had to overcome during the headline bout in Los Angeles.
And following 31 months out of the ring, Kovalev is seeking a busy period ahead to make up for lost time.

He said: “I’m just going to keep in shape after this fight, we’ll rest one week and then get back in the gym.
“I worried how it was going to be in the fight, of course there was some ring rust.
“Without boxing at a high level for over a year, my body doesn’t like this. I want to fight every three or four months,” Kovalev said.
“The plan was just to use the jab and distance. But I felt like I didn’t have enough energy in my body.

CHRIS EUBANK JR reckons he can lure Kell Brook out of his week-long retirement very soon.Sheffield’s 35-year-old former welterweight world champ hung up his gloves last week, after winning his grudge battle with Amir Khan in February.

But Eubank Jr, 31, needs a summer dance partner as the middleweight world titles he wants are tied up with other champions and fights.
And the son of British ring legend Chris S, reckons if Brook has not made clever investments then the smart money is on a showdown between the pair.

And Eubank Jr – who is still yet to win a world title – managed to praise his form as he aims to goad him into a comeback.
He said: “I understand Amir retiring because of the performance he had but Kell fought well.
“Kell is clearly not done, completely shot or finished, you can’t be done with a performance like that. He clearly has something left, in my opinion.”
Eubank Jr’s ideal summer opponent is 40-year-old Gennady Golovkin, Plan B is Canelo Alvarez and third on his hit list is welterweight Conor Benn.
A gulf in size meant the two sons of English fight icons – Conor being Nigel’s boy – seemed unlikely to continue the family rivalry.
But a recent chance meeting gave 25-year-old Benn the chance to dangle the idea of a fight with Eubank.
