      Josh Taylor calls out ‘respected people’ within boxing who made corruption claims in wake of Jack Catterall fight

      JOSH TAYLOR has taken aim at the “well-respected people” within boxing who claimed that corruption helped him beat Jack Catterall in February.The Scottish fighter, 31, took victory against Catterall in controversial fashion at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, via a split decision that shocked the viewing public and caused ire on social media among fight fans.

      Taylor held onto his super-lightweight belts as a result, though he has since lost his WBA title – paving the way for a rematch with Catterall.
      The Prestonpans-based boxer has always maintained he won the bout fair and square but is prepared to go toe-to-toe with his rival once again to settle the score.
      Taylor was knocked down in the eighth round on that night in February and has admitted he wasn’t at his best throughout the fight.
      Legendary promoter Bob Arum agreed but insisted the verdict CORRECTLY went in Taylor’s favour.

      “I thought he was very negative, on the back foot, holding and I think he should’ve had more than one point taken off him for excessive holding. It’s been and done. I got the decision.
      “After it, people insinuating that there was corruption going on and saying this and saying that and judges getting paid off – which is absolutely ridiculous.
      “People who are well respected in the sport shouldn’t be saying things like that.”
      Taylor has faced months of abuse on social media since and had to call out fight fans that were also attacking his partner and family.
      He said: “Many fans believe Jack deserved the decision, and that’s fine. We both went in there and fought our guts out for 12 rounds.
      “But the personal attacks on myself and especially my family are disgusting and uncalled for.”

      ANY boxer planning to try their hand at MMA may want to think twice following throwback footage of Conor McGregor sparring Patrick Hyland.Hyland is no stranger to a scrap after being crowned the boxing WBF featherweight champion in 2011.

      But he looked a fish out of water after stepping inside the cage to take on the Notorious as his Straight Blast Gym in Dublin.
      With the pair padded up, McGregor instantly went straight for the body and took Hyland down to the canvas.
      The 38-year-old fellow Irishman knew he was in instant trouble and can be heard shouting: “What do I do? I don’t know what to do.”
      McGregor, who has not fought since suffering a horrific injury in his defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, remains in total control of their session and even takes it easy on his opponent.
      Hyland showed glimpses of the fighter he once was by throwing a couple of testing jabs but nothing to trouble the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champ.
      McGregor even managed to laugh at the boxer when Hyland attempted a takedown of his own.
      The footage was leaked online by the 33-year-old’s head coach John Kavanagh but Hyland appeared to take the beating in good spirits.
      The same can’t be said about McGregor’s former sparring partner Paulie Malignaggi who had a major fallout with the Notorious over a leaked sparring video in 2017.

      And the ‘Hitman’, who is reportedly worth £31m, was happy to part with some serious cash – in what he described a ‘f****** expensive’ holiday – to wine and dine ex-girlfriend Charlie (He cruelly nicknamed The Fun Police) on the stunning Greek island.
      From chowing down on £820 steaks to staying at a £350-per-night luxury villa, no expense was spared.
      And he even got away with comparing his missus to Robocop… maybe that’s why they broke up?
      HIS DIGS
      Hatton and Charlie stayed at the exclusive five-star AGL Luxury Villas, where homes come with a fully-equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, flat-screen TVs and private swimming pools.
      Most of the properties come with a terrace and a sea view, while guests can take advantage of barbecuing facilities too.
      With the airport only three miles away, and AGL Luxury Villas being close to the centre, it’s the perfect spot to see the island in all its glory.
      But staying here doesn’t come cheap. Prices to live like a king start at around £350-per-night.

      It’s no secret the former boxing champ loves his food – often eating out at the finest eateries.
      In Mykonos he really pushed out the boat, polishing off grub at flashy restaurants like meat-eaters spots Nammos and Scorpios, and chomping on healthy sushi at Tokyo Joe’s.
      It was the morning after dining at Nammos though that Hatton admitted waking up in a “puddle of f****** tears” when he discovered his restaurant bill.
      Managing to rack up a charge of £1,750 for a meal-for-two, that included a bottle of champagne for £450, as well as a bottle of prosecco for £120, he could’ve been left with an awful hangover.
      But Hatton made sure his stomach was lined with a hearty kobe ribeye steak that set him back £820.
      Afterwards, he posted before and after snaps of him demolishing his dinner, as well as a snap of his huge bill.

      Before he landed in Mykonos, Hatton was in Tenerife on holiday with estranged parents Ray and Carol and was caught on video stumbling around an Irish pub.
      The former light-welterweight and welterweight world champion flashed his belly and danced along to Lionel Richie’s 1983 hit All Night Long during the festivities.
      However, on this trip with The Fun Police, he was a little bit more reserved, aside from that whopping Nammos bar bill that also included around £120-worth of Hendricks gin.
      But they did enjoy a cocktail at the 180 Degrees Sunset Bar, that offers unparalleled views of the island when the sun goes down.

      It is expected that the battle would earn as much as £150million, taking into account the purse, pay-per-view purchases, gate receipts and sponsors.
      British fans will be desperate for the historic event to take place on home soil… but Eddie Hearn admitted in the past that could mean the fighters would have to accept 50 per cent less than they could get in Saudi Arabia.
      Hearn secured a site fee of over £30m for AJ’s Diriyah rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr in December 2019, and could expect to get much more for a bout with the Gypsy King.

      Fury confirmed in June 2020 that he and Joshua had agreed a two-fight contract after much speculation.
      He tweeted: “It’s official FURY VS JOSUAR AGREED FOR NEXT YEAR, I got to smash @bronzebomber first then I’ll annihilate @anthonyfjoshua #WEARESPARTANS”.
      And, at the time, Hearn told Sky Sports: “We’ve been talking to [Fury’s management team] MTK, giving them the assurances from Joshua’s side that all the details on the structure of the deal is approved from our side.
      “And it is from Fury’s side, as well.
      “We’re in a good place. It’s fair to say that, in principle, both guys have agreed to that fight. Two fights.
      “There’s lot to overcome in the meantime. We’re moving in the right direction.
      “I’m confident that both guys have giving their blessing for the fight to go ahead.”

      However, AJ’s loss to Oleksandr Usyk threw a spanner in the works – making that rematch a priority first before any potential battle with Fury.
      Fury’s second fight with Deontay Wilder was believed to have earned over £50m in US PPV sales alone.
      And this era-defining bout would be expected to sell even more.
      The Wythenshawe-born boxer has teased his retirement after disposing of Wilder in their trilogy bout.
      But should an all-British heavyweight super clash go ahead, only fights featuring retired five-weight king Floyd Mayweather will have ever earned more.
      The most lucrative earned an eye-watering £678m back in 2015, when the American finally faced Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.
