ANTHONY JOSHUA will return to the ring in December whether or not he beats Oleksandr Usyk, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed.AJ, 32, will attempt to avenge his loss to the unbeaten Ukrainian when he fights for the IBF, WBA and WBC world heavyweight titles in Saudi Arabia on August 20.

The rematch with Usyk comes 11 months after their first bout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year.
Joshua has fought just twice since he reclaimed his belts against Andy Ruiz Jr in the Middle East in December 2019.
And Hearn has admitted the lack of ring time has been a frustration for AJ, but that he will definitely fight twice this year.
Speaking to iFL TV, he said: “The one thing he [Joshua] wants more than anything is activity and December will definitely be his next fight.”

Many big fights remain out there for Joshua regardless of whether he beats Usyk next month – including Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and a rematch against Dillian Whyte.
But AJ’s sparring partner Frazer Clarke – who won a bronze medal at last year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo – feels the two-time world heavyweight champion can get the better of Usyk.
He told the Telegraph: “All focus has been on Usyk, and on outhustling him with educated pressure.
“Although this is an awkward fight against a very skilled heavyweight, just like Tyson Fury is, AJ has his mind on the game for this.”

Clarke also stressed that Joshua is not looking past Usyk towards an all-British dust-up against WBC champion Fury.
“Listen, the words Tyson Fury haven’t even been muttered in our gym because we know that the job at hand is a difficult one,” he added.
“There’s no two ways about it, Usyk is one of the more skilful heavyweight champions we’ve had in recent years.
“On a skill level, Usyk and Fury are at the top of the tree, even if you go back in history.
“Just going in there and mauling him like people are suggesting, it’s never going to happen. Nor will trying to outbox him.” More

AJ has vowed to get “back to basics” with new head coach Robert Garcia for next month’s Saudi slugfest, which promoter Eddie Hearn hopes will be a rough and tumble affair.
The Matchroom Boxing chief told BBC 5 Live Boxing: “You’ve got to push him back, just like [Derek] Chisora did.
“Watch the Chisora fight, [the] few first rounds. [Usyk] was up against the ropes. You gotta get him back there.

Joshua and Garcia are expected to adopt a pressure-heavy approach for the Jeddah jostle, although Hearn has warned the former champ not to be too gung-ho.
He said: “You can’t be careless against a great counterpuncher like Oleksandr Usyk.
“Listen, Usyk may come out on the front foot and go on and push AJ back. You saw that in Deontay Wilder against Tyson Fury.”
Joshua stung Usyk several times in his ill-fated title defence but didn’t capitalise on the openings his heavy shots created.

BOXING promoter Eddie Hearn has defended Sky Sports’ decision to charge a record pay-per-view price for Anthony Joshua’s rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.The Briton, 32, will take on the undefeated Ukrainian, 35, in Saudi Arabia on August 20 as he looks to avenge the unanimous decision defeat he suffered in September last year.

Sky Sports announced on Wednesday that the fight has been priced at £26.95 for UK customers – the highest fee ever for a British boxing bout.
It is a £2 increase from the £24.95 which was set for AJ’s rematch with Andy Ruiz and the first Usyk fight.
Hearn, who is Joshua’s promoter, spent many years working with Sky Sports as their exclusive boxing partner.
Earlier this year, his company Matchroom Boxing decided to leave Sky and agree a deal to show their events on streaming platform DAZN.

Joshua has also signed an exclusive deal with DAZN which will come into force after the Usyk rematch – with this set to be his last fight on Sky.
Yet despite Hearn and Sky no longer having a working relationship, he has refused to disagree with their decision to charge a record price for the clash.
Speaking to iFL TV, he said: “We all know it’s a very competitive market at the moment. Sky have made a play for this fight – one because it’s a very big fight but two because of business reasons and strategy reasons as well.
“So, sometimes when that happens you have to overpay for something and there has to be a way to make that money back.

“I can’t comment because I’m not involved in that process – I don’t represent Sky – but they’ve got to make the numbers add up and that’s charging more money to the consumer.
“It’s £2. It’s a big fight. Obviously, £19.95 has been the regular PPV price. £24.95 was an AJ PPV price. That’s now increased to £26.95. Prices are going up all the time.
“I’m not going to sit here and say ‘I can’t believe Sky have put the money up on PPV’ but they’ve had to spend a lot of money on this fight and that’s their way of making it work.”
When asked if DAZN would have charged the same amount, he added: “It’s a bit of a mystical question because that was never going to happen. It’s one for DAZN.
“I think their price would be in line with market PPV pricing which was the previous numbers [£24.95].

“But again, that’s one for them.”
