Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr tale of the tape: How fighters compare as they reignite family rivalry on Oct 8 at The O2

CONOR BENN and Chris Eubank Jr will meet in the middle – but with no half measures – for their catchweight cracker at the O2.The long-awaited update of the family feud, 29 years after their fathers’ second legendary fight, has been confirmed for October 8.

Conor Benn will be upping a weight or two from his normal shape to take on Chris Eubank Jr, after their dads fought in 1990 and 1993Credit: Getty
And while Eubank Jr will be going down, size-wise, Benn will be bigging it up – as he can put on around 10lbs to make the 157lbs weight.
Sussex superstar Eubank, 32, is superior in experience, height and reach.
But Londoner Benn has youth on his side – by seven years – and boasts a perfect record of 20 wins.
Maybe that’s why he’s warned his long-awaited rival: “You won’t fight again after you’ve shared the ring with me, I will be your last fight!”

His confidence might be buoyed by rules designed to stop Eubank’s naturally-heavier build becoming an unfair asset.
Apart from the catchweight inbetween the two, there’s a strict rehydration clause further limited Eubank’s ability to bulk up.
If anything, that should help Benn – as controlling his fluid intake should be easier.
For now, though, it’s all water under the bridge because Eubank has finally signed his half of the contract for a grudge fight that could truly be worth the weight.

As he said in July:  “What fight fan wouldn’t want to see it?
“Two legends, their sons fighting each other, and they’re both doing big things in the boxing world.
“It doesn’t make any sense right now, but in a couple of years when Benn has filled out a little and I want a little bit of fun, we can get it on, but not right now.” More

BIG time British boxing is back as Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are set to clash in a bout that will stoke the memories of the 1990s. It was in 1990 and again in 1993 that Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn fought two brutal world title fights.

Eubank Sr won the first one via 9th-round TKO, picking up the WBO middleweight title in the process, but the second fight, which took place at super-middleweight, ended in a draw.
Now 29 years on, their sons will clash.
Eubank Jr, a middleweight who has also campaigned at 168lbs, will come down to his lowest weight ever 156lbs to challenge Benn – a career welterweight.
It was a fight which was first floated into the ether after Eubank Jr beat Liam Williams earlier this year.
Nobody took the idea of it seriously, apart from Benn, who has struggled to find a competitive fight at 147lbs.

When is Eubank Jr vs Benn?

Eubank Jr’s massive clash with Benn will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
The fight will take place at the O2 Arena in front of 18,000 fans.
Both men will clash 29 years on, almost to the day, from Eubank Sr vs Benn 2 at Old Trafford on October 9, 1993.
Ring-walks for the main event are expected to get going at around 10pm UK time.

What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

Eubank Jr vs Benn will be shown live on DAZN PPV
You can subscribe to DAZN for £7.99-a-month, but that does NOT give you streaming access to Eubank Jr vs Benn.
The clash is available for live streaming from the DAZN app, which you can download onto your mobile or tablet device.

    What has been said?
Both fighters are excited to put on a showdown which will roll back the years for many boxing fans.
Eubank Jr said: “I grew up watching their legendary battles and always wanting to emulate that, and find my own arch nemesis… could this now be Conor Benn? We will find out.
“He has walked the same path as I have. I know his struggle. Living in the shadow of a legend and trying to break out of that shadow and make his own name. If he can beat me, his name will be made, and he will never walk in his father’s shadow again.
“It’s a fight that’s going to spark the imagination of the British public, that’s what I’m happy about. In terms of anticipation, legacy and hype it’s the biggest fight of my career.”
Whilst Benn said: “This fight is for the legacy and was an opportunity I felt I couldn’t pass up.
“My team and I had other options on the table as I’m currently ranked top 5 with all governing bodies at Welterweight and no doubt I’m looking for a World Championship fight very soon, but this fight is embedded with so much history and I know it’s one the public really want to see.
“To me this fight is personal – it’s more than titles and rankings, this is unfinished business between our families!” More

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn fight date and venue CONFIRMED as stars set to collide at O2 on October 8 at catchweight

CHRIS EUBANK JR has finally signed his half of the contract to fight Conor Benn on October 8 at the O2 and settle the family feud. The pair will meet at a catchweight of 157lbs, with a strict rehydration clause in place to stop 32-year-old middleweight Eubank Jr coming in excessively bigger than the 25-year-old welterweight.

Eubank Jr had middleweight world champs Andrade and Charlo calling for fightsCredit: Getty
The fight will come almost exactly 30 years since their legendary fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Sr, clashed for the second and final time.
The deal was almost signed at the end of last month but Eubank Jr – a former super-middle – had a couple of last-minute offers to field and use in negotiations.
Middleweight world champs Demetrius Andrade and Jermall Charlo both posted on social media, calling for a bout with the Brighton-based ace ring legend Chris Sr.
And then Eubank Jr wasted a few Tweets trying to talk cruiserweight YouTube fighter Jake Paul into a bout, which got Benn raging online.

“Why you worrying about fighting Jake?” he messaged. “As far as I’m aware you’ve lost your pen again?”
To which Eubank Jr replied: “Nothing about him worries me, trust me.
“And my pen is ready as soon as the contract on my side is correct, which at this moment in time it is not.”
Now Eubank has found his pen and signed on the dotted line, with a few minor details still to be thrashed out.

The seeds for this cross-division spectacular were first sewn in February after Benn watched Eubank Jr defeat Liam Williams and said: “I fancy my chances at catchweight.”
Eubank Jr was intrigued but put it on the backburner while he tried to target a world title, saying: “What fight fan wouldn’t want to see it?
“Two legends, their sons fighting each other, and they’re both doing big things in the boxing world.
“It doesn’t make any sense right now, but in a couple of years when Benn has filled out a little and I want a little bit of fun, we can get it on, but not right now.”
Eubank Jr was under an exclusive broadcast contract with Sky Sports but he was unhappy with their plan for him to fight Liam Smith, so he has jumped ship to Benn’s sports streaming app DAZN.
Benn and Eubank Sr fought two epic battles in the 1990s.
The pair became bitter rivals, and they first clashed in Birmingham in November 1990 for the world middleweight crown.
Benn bit through his tongue and his eye was swollen shut in a savage contest that Eubank Sr won by a stoppage with five seconds left of the ninth round.
The rematch was held at Old Trafford in 1993, and was an epic contests over 12 rounds, that ended in a draw.
Their rivalry was so famous, it was the subject of a book called The Hate Game, published in 2013.

The Gypsy King boxed Chisora from pillar to post in their July 2011 and November 2014 clashes, so much so a third fight has been lambasted by former foe Otto Wallin.
The Swede told Lord Ping: “It’s simply not a competitive fight [between Fury and Chisora].
