      Premier League confirm new £5.1BILLION TV deal which continues Sky, BT, Amazon and BBC agreement for three more years

      PREMIER LEAGUE chiefs have confirmed agreement on a new £5.1billion TV deal.The deal to ‘rollover’ the current contracts with Sky, BT, Amazon Prime and the BBC for a further three seasons was confirmed ‘unanimously’ at a virtual meeting of the 20 clubs on Wednesday.

      But as a condition to get Government approval to bypass the normal bidding process, the clubs agreed to give up £100million between them over the next four years – with the money spread throughout the football pyramid.
      Explaining the deal, which comes into effect from the end of next season, a Prem spokesman said: “This agreement is based on the renewals safeguarding the world-leading levels of financial support committed to the football community through solidarity, youth development and wider community and good causes contributions.
      “The UK renewals for the next broadcast cycle – from seasons 2022-23 to 2024-25 – will be concluded at the same overall value as the current arrangements between the Premier League and its broadcast partners.
      “As part of the Premier League’s developing strategic plan, the renewals will provide financial certainty to clubs throughout professional football as a result of maintaining current levels of support and enables the League to commit to increased funding.
      “This will give security and continuity throughout the pyramid until at least 2025.
      “Pre-pandemic, the Premier League budgeted to commit £1.5bn to the pyramid over a three-year period, more than any other sporting organisation provides to its community.
      “That commitment will be maintained during the next rights cycle and will be supplemented by an additional £100m of funding.
      “This additional £100m will be provided over the next four years only, and will extend support to areas of the football community particularly vulnerable to the impacts of Covid-19.

      “The additional funding will be available to more than 1,000 clubs in the National League system, women’s and girls’ football, EFL League One and League Two clubs and the Football Foundation.
      “It will also support a number of football-wide projects, which will include the Premier League’s work looking at head injuries in football, anti-discrimination and fan groups who receive funding from the Premier League.”
      The deal means Sky will retain the lion’s share of live matches with 128 matches, BT showing 52 and Amazon Prime 20.
      But in a slight tweak, BT announced that, in European weeks it would move its Saturday lunchtime game to 7:45pm if the match featured a team that had played Champions League football the previous Wednesday.
      Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all complained bitterly about being forced into lunchtime action after Euro matches this season.
      ‘SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON FOOTBALL’
      Prem chief executive Richard Masters said: “The Premier League would like to express our gratitude to our broadcast partners for their continued commitment to the Premier League and support for the football pyramid.
      “We are hugely appreciative of the Government agreeing in principle to allow this arrangement and for their continued support for the Premier League and the English game.
      “Covid-19 has had a significant impact on football, and renewals with our UK broadcast partners will reduce uncertainty, generate stability and promote confidence within the football pyramid.
      “We know that, once concluded, this will have a positive impact on the wider industry, jobs and tax revenues and will enable us to maintain and increase our existing solidarity and community financial commitments to the football pyramid for the next four years, even though we are yet to understand the full impact of the pandemic.
      “It comes at an important time and will enable us to plan ahead with increased certainty against a more stable economic backdrop.”

      Amir is unquestionably one of the most likable and talented fighters produced on this island and he has always respected his fans. He is media friendly, forever cheerful, available and helpful.
      Much admired for his philanthropy, he set up a foundation which provides large sums of money to charities in Asia and Africa, as well as at home.
      Khan strongly supports women who are the victims of violence, is an ambassador for the NSPCC and he allows underprivileged kids to use his state-of-the-art gym.
      In recognition of his services to his home town, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Bolton.
      Yet despite all his benevolence, I believe Amir has now severely tarnished his image by agreeing, together with his wife Faryal, to take part in an excruciatingly bad eight-episode BBC reality show Meet the Khans: Big in Bolton.
      It goes out on Monday nights — and I have watched the first four while cringing in horror.
      It’s in the worst possible taste and only those who take some pleasure in seeing obscene ostentation will find it enjoyable.
      This is a vehicle for the Khans to flaunt their wealth and their shameless love of extravagance of the worst kind.
      Amir is filmed driving around Bolton in his red Lamborghini and lets it be known he has a Rolls-Royce in the garage — which he probably takes to the supermarket.
      There were scenes of the two of them relaxing on a luxury yacht he rented when they were visiting Dubai.
      There are constant shots of his lavishly furnished mansion — and Faryal is forever being shown in her bedroom wearing her bling and designer clothes.
      In this week’s programme, Amir was in a Mayfair jeweller deciding which £100,000 watch he should buy. He has let it be known he bought his son a £30,000 Rolex for his first birthday.

      Justifying his opulent lifestyle, Amir said: “The way I look at it, is that I work very hard for it.
      “I’m always one punch away from getting hurt, so I like to treat myself or treat my wife. But I do respect money and that’s one of the reasons I do a lot of charity work.”
      Faryal chimed in: “It’s not up to us to tell people what to think. But in the show we are completely honest.
      “We can’t really apologise for who we are. We’re going to be our real selves, whether anyone likes it or not.”
      Amir added: “I’ve watched a lot of these reality shows and I like them because it gets to the real person, what they are really about, what they are really like.”
      By criticising Amir, I now know what the person who shot Bambi felt like.

      He doesn’t seem to realise he hasn’t done himself any favours by displaying how filthy rich he is for the world to see.
      No doubt there are many of his fans who will have joined the millions that have lost jobs or even gone bankrupt due to the pandemic — and they won’t be too impressed.

      Dan Walker to step down from BBC’s Football Focus after 12 years as he looks forward to ‘exciting opportunities’

      BBC presenter Dan Walker has announced his departure from Football Focus.The programme has been a Saturday lunchtime staple since its launch as part of Grandstand in 1974, with Walker the host for the past 12 years.

      On Thursday, 44-year-old Walker confirmed the move.
      He said: “This is going to be my last season presenting Football Focus.
      “It has been an amazing 12 years and I can honestly say I have loved every single second of it.
      “I am so proud of the job we’ve done, the changes we’ve made and issues we’ve looked at a time when the football landscape has changed immeasurably.
      “But, having said all that, after 12 years it’s time for someone else to take the reins.”

      Crawley-born Walker will remain with the BBC as host of Breakfast, as well as presenting sports shows including the upcoming summer Olympics.
      And he teased ‘one or two exciting opportunities’ that will be revealed soon.
      Walker added: “I’d like to say thank you to the amazing team at Focus who put so much into the show each week and thank you to the audience for tuning in every Saturday.”

      The final Football Focus presented by Walker will air on May 22 with no news of a replacement announced yet.
      Former morning television rival Piers Morgan, now available after leaving Good Morning Britain, joked that he will be the one to jump in the hotseat.

      DAZN are ready to target Premier League rights after launching in the UK. The streaming platform have focused on big boxing fights but are set to rival Amazon in a bid to secure football coverage.

      New chairman Kevin Mayer told CNBC: “To have staying power, you need to deliver the sports that matter to consumers no matter where they are. And those are the local sports.
      “So in the UK, the English Premier League and maybe some cricket and maybe some rugby.
      “In Germany, it’s Bundesliga, which is their equivalent of the EPL. In Japan, it’s baseball.
      “So you have to get those local rights in those countries. And that’s how you can make a real service take hold.”
      DAZN launched in the UK in December with Canelo Alvarez’s fight against Callum Smith showcasing the streaming service.
      But the platform, which is owned by billionaire Len Blavatnik, want to expand into Premier League football and are set to provide competition to Amazon.
      In 2019, Amazon started broadcasting matches after agreeing a three-year deal.
      The £90million package gives them 20 matches a season, spread over two rounds, but Amazon have shown additional matches due to the pandemic stopping fans from attending.

      The auction for UK broadcasting rights for the 2022-25 seasons starts later this year and DAZN are expected to bid for coverage.
      Mayer said: “Yeah, I think we are positioned to do it. We have the capital to do it, and Len Blavatnik is committed to it. And it’s going to work.
      “It’s a flywheel that happens. Once it starts spinning, you can create momentum.”

      BBC Sport presenter Kelly Somers was told to ‘stick to women’s football’ by an Instagram troll who has a daughter of his own.
      Somers detailed the abuse online and also revealed the dad suggested her and other female colleagues should ‘get off Final Score’.

      Talented reporter Somers used her experience to shine a light on the problem on International Women’s Day (IWD).
      She tweeted to her 30,000 followers: “On Saturday I got a message from a man on Instagram, telling me myself & other females should get off Final Score & stick to women’s football.
      “I searched the man, he has a daughter. Does he send her the same message? That she can only do certain jobs?
      “The point of me telling this isn’t for sympathy (I feel sorry for him), it’s because messages on IWD are fab but they’re not enough.

      “Everyone should think about their attitudes to women & their jobs, everyday. How would he feel if his daughter received the message he sent?!
      “Also I should add this isn’t all men. SO many amazing men, & dads, out there doing the exact opposite, showing their daughters they can do whatever they want.
      “I may not have been fortunate to have mine around, but many are out there smashing fatherhood.”
      The post received more than 1,000 likes and fortunately fans rushed to support Somers and condemn the dad.
