MANCHESTER UNITED have been hit with some bad news in their pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach keeper Yann Sommer, according to reports. The 34-year-old, who is the No1 choice for the Switzerland national team, is due to become a free agent in the summer when his deal with the Bundesliga club expires.

Man Utd are thought to be eyeing him up as a potential replacement for David de Gea – particularly considering it appears unlikely Dean Henderson will return from his loan spell.
However, Sky are now reporting that German champions Bayern Munich have declared an interest in the shot-stopper.
And they are keen to secure his signature in the January window – just six months before he is set to be released.
That is because their first-choice keeper Manuel Neuer, 36, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after breaking his leg in a skiing accident.

Bayern are believed to have already made contact with his representatives.
But Man Utd will be hoping the Bundesliga giants’ alternative options pay off so they can scoop him up in the summer.
Bayern are also looking at Aston Villa and Argentina star Emi Martinez following his heroics at the World Cup.
And there is still the possibility that Julian Nagelsmann may not have to sign a keeper at all.

This is because the club are trying to recall Alexander Nubel from his loan at Monaco.
If they are able to do so, it is likely the 26-year-old German will take Neuer’s place for the remainder of the campaign.
Bayern went into the World Cup break top of the Bundesliga table, four points ahead of second-place Freiburg.
They do not return to action until January 20 when they travel to RB Leipzig. More

One of Morocco’s standout performers throughout the tournament has been shot-stopper Bono.
The 31-year-old, real name Yassine Bounou, kept clean sheets in games with Croatia, Spain and Portugal, conceding just one goal against Canada on their way to the last four.
The only match he has missed in Qatar came in the 2-0 win over Belgium as he was suffering with an illness.
Bono was the hero in the last-16 against Luis Enrique’s men as he saved penalties from Carlos Soler and Sergio Busquets in the shootout.

According to AS, his incredible form on the biggest stage has attracted interest from Bayern CEO and legendary keeper Oliver Kahn.
Bono has been playing for LaLiga side Sevilla since 2019 and has a contract until 2025.

But Kahn is thought to be very keen on the Canadian-born keeper as they look to temporarily replace long-time No1 Manuel Neuer.
Neuer, 36, is out for the rest of the season after breaking his leg while skiing earlier this month.

Aston Villa are also interested in the Moroccan and could be a suitor for Bono should they choose to pursue a deal.
And if they were to beat Bayern to him, the German champions are also keen on Croatian hero Dominik Livakovic.

Harry Kane has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich for several monthsCredit: PA
However, rumours of a potential departure to the Bundesliga champions have been circulating for some time.
And Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn fuelled that speculation earlier this week when he praised the England captain.
He told Sky Sports Germany: “Kane is very good player, but there are also many other very good players. I’ve read that [gossip] everywhere.”
According to Sky Sports, Bayern are exploring the possibility of a move for Kane.

And a transfer for Spurs’ talisman would reportedly set them back in the region of £70-90m.
But the German giants remain unconvinced a deal could be completed.
Spurs chief Daniel Levy fended off strong interest from Manchester City last year as he kept hold of Kane after a lengthy transfer saga.
Since then, talk of a departure has gone away – particularly following the appointment of manager Antonio Conte 12 months ago.

But now interest from Bayern has led to speculation once more, with Kane expected to make a decision on his future after the World Cup.
And with the forward set to enter the final 12 months of his current deal in the summer, Tottenham may feel now is the time to cash in on their legendary striker.
Kane has netted a breathtaking 261 goals in 408 appearances for the Lilywhites and is just five short of the club record set by Jimmy Greaves.
He also has 51 goals for his country and is only two shy of Wayne Rooney’s record.
Kane has made a superb start to the season for Spurs, registering 13 goals in 22 matches.
But they are already in danger of another trophyless season after falling behind Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League title race and exiting the Carabao Cup to Nottingham Forest.
Kane is yet to win a major trophy in his career and could leave Spurs in search of silverware. More

And with Robert Lewandowski not replaced in the last transfer window, it is likely speculation will ramp up again in the summer.
And Bayern chief Oliver Kahn did little to pour cold water on the club being linked with the Tottenham striker.
But he insisted there were other players around who caught the side’s interest.
He told Sky Sports Germany: “Kane is very good player, but there are also many other very good players. I’ve read that [gossip] everywhere.”

Kane’s astonishing start to the season for Spurs will have done little to put off interested parties.
The 29-year-old has had one of his most impressive starts to any season, netting 12 goals in 15 Premier League games.
His fantastic numbers are still dwarfed by Erling Haaland who can boast 18 goals in just 13 league games.

For now, the striker will have his attentions fully on his country.
Kane has yet to score so far despite England hitting six against Iran.
