Upamecano passes ball into Dortmund net from own half as ‘blunder for the ages’ gives new Bayern boss Tuchel dream start

DAYOT UPAMECANO’S punt from his own half gave Thomas Tuchel a dream start as Bayern Munich boss – as Borussia Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel turned the hopeful pass into an incredible own goal. With Bayern needing victory to leapfrog their big rivals at the top of the Bundesliga, Kobel raced to the edge of his area to fly-kick the ball away – but instead sliced it into his own net.
Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel was in shock at his error as Bayern ran riot early on
Kobe’s faint touch to Upamecano’s long ball forward was deemed an own goal, which only made the stopper’s embarrassment even worse

Thomas Muller then netted twice as Tuchel’s new club raced 3-0 up inside 28 minutes.
Kobel’s cock-up was labelled a “blunder for the ages” on social media.
And he himself couldn’t believe it as he stood open-mouthed, staring upwards with his hands clasped behind his head.
One fan described his mistake as “hilariously bad” and another said: “Are we supposed to take this league seriously?”

Kobel’s intervention and Bayern’s subsequent goal-burst briefly took the spotlight off ex-Chelsea chief Tuchel.
The German became a whirlwind appointment last week following Julian Nagelsmann’s shock sacking.
Dortmund actually had more of the ball in the first half but Bayern produced six shots on target compared to none for the visitors.
And Edin Terzic’s side struggled to recover from Kobel’s unlucky 13th minute faux pas.

France centre-back Upamecano tried to thread a through-ball.
But it looked harmless until Kobel took a swing – leading to a slight deflection off his right boot that led to the ball rolling the 18 yards behind him into the net.
Ruling it as an own goal seemed harsh – and that decision will surely only make the Switzerland stopper feel worse. More

At the moment he wants to shelve any distractions from getting back into the team and playing as many games as possible for Chelsea in the remaining two months of the season.
Tuchel dropped him from his first game in charge as Chelsea boss in January 2021 but came off the bench with seven minutes to go and never looked back.
He went on to play in six different positions under the manager and supplied the assist for team-mate Kai Havertz to win the Champions League for a second time for Chelsea in the 2021 final against Manchester City.
Mount has been with Chelsea since he was six years old but with negotiations about a new deal struggling, rival clubs are circling.
He has already been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.
Bayern Munich join Italians Juventus as a queue of European titans starts to form with time ticking away on Mount’s deal which expires in June 2024.
If there is no resolution, Chelsea may well prefer to sell him to a foreign club rather than a fellow English team to avoid facing him in the Premier League. More
