Pjanic has spoken of his shock at the situation saying: “I thought it was the right choice to sign for a club like Barca, but I didn’t know it was like that at the time.
“It was very complicated. I never expected to experience such a difficult situation. I never expected that.”

But despite agreeing a £71.5million deal with Barcelona to sign the midfielder, the move collapsed.
Barca still want to offload De Jong however and will look to sell the Netherlands international in January, report 90min.com.
That could also put other clubs on high alert after Chelsea and Bayern Munich were linked in the summer.
The Blues failed to reach an agreement with Barcelona over a transfer fee but the Spanish club could reduce their asking price in January since De Jong has started just two out of five league games.

United also allowed negotiations to be drawn out before finally matching Barca’s asking price.
But De Jong snubbed them – not wanting to move to a team in the Europa League.

And Red Devils chiefs now reportedly believe that had they made more of an effort to sign him in June, they would have got their man.
United instead turned their attention to Casemiro and snapped up the former Real Madrid star for £70m.

Erik ten Hag was not reunited with his former Ajax favourite De Jong, with United instead splashing £70million on Casemiro.
According to Dutch outlet AD, the Red Devils feel that “indecisiveness” cost them a deal.
They add that club chiefs knew what they would have to pay to secure his signature after his matches with the Netherlands in early June.
But they wavered over the asking price, reportedly £73m, and did not appear to relent until after De Jong had returned from his holiday the following month.

United did finally agree to pay £73m and left a £350,000-a-week contract on the table.
But De Jong snubbed them – not wanting to move to a team in the Europa League.

United manager Erik ten Hag was interested in a reunion with Dest, whom he managed at Ajax during the 2019-20 season.
But according to The Athletic, Red Devils football director John Murtough wanted to stick with Aaron Wan-Bissaka – despite his awkward fit in Ten Hag’s system.
Barca initially wanted around £17.5million for Dest, but ended up sending him out on loan to AC Milan with no obligation to buy.
The Serie A champions have the option to make the move permanent for £17.5m next summer.

This was because of Barcelona’s crippling financial crisis.
Back in July, it was reported that manager Xavi told his former team-mate Pique that it would be best for him to leave.
Pique wanted to stay and help the team, so took a massive pay-cut instead.
There were even rumours he was willing to play for free before LaLiga insisted that was not allowed.
And now reports are claiming that he could be unceremoniously shown the exit door at the end of the campaign.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
According to Sport, if Pique does not play more than 35 per cent of Barcelona’s matches then they will be able to terminate his contract in the summer.
The eight-time Spanish champion and three-time Champions League winner has a deal which runs until 2024 at the Nou Camp.
But that will supposedly end 12 months earlier if his game time is kept to a minimum up until the end of the season.
Pique has played more than 600 times for Barcelona, winning a remarkable 30 trophies during his time there.

But he is now well down the pecking order of centre-backs in the Catalans squad.
Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia are all ahead of him in Xavi’s side.
Barca have started the campaign in fine form, winning four out of five matches and scoring 16 goals.
But Pique has played a total of just 45 minutes – which came in the first half of their Champions League opener against Viktoria Plzen.
He was replaced by Sergi Roberto at half-time. More
